Claims (24)
- 画素電極を有するアクティブマトリクス基板と、
対向電極を有する対向基板と、
前記アクティブマトリクス基板と前記対向基板との間に設けられた垂直配向型の液晶層と、
前記アクティブマトリクス基板と前記液晶層との間、および、前記対向基板と前記液晶層との間に設けられた配向維持層であって、多官能モノマーの重合した重合体を含有する配向維持層と
を備える、液晶表示装置であって、
前記アクティブマトリクス基板および前記対向基板の少なくとも一方は配向膜をさらに有しており、
前記配向膜は、ポリイミドと、多官能モノマーの重合した重合体とを含有する、液晶表示装置。 - 前記配向膜に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーは複数のビニル基を有している、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーは一般式(1)Pb1−Ab1−(Zb1−Ab2)n−Pb2(一般式(1)において、Pb1およびPb2は、独立に、アクリレート、メタクリレート、アクリルアミドまたはメタクリルアミドであり、Ab1およびAb2は、独立に、1,4−フェニレン、1,4−シクロヘキサンまたは2,5−チオフェン、もしくは、ナフタレン−(2,6)−ジイルまたはアントラセン−(2,7)−ジイルを表し、Zb1は−COO−、−OCO−、−O−、−CONH−基または単結合であり、nは0または1である)で表される、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- Ab1およびAb2の少なくとも一方は少なくとも1個のフッ素基で置換されている、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーはジメタクリレートモノマーを含む、請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向維持層に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーは複数のビニル基を有している、請求項1から6のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向維持層に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーは一般式(2)Pa1−Aa1−(Za1−Aa2)n−Pa2(一般式(2)において、Pa1およびPa2は、独立に、アクリレート、メタクリレート、アクリルアミドまたはメタクリルアミドであり、Aa1およびAa2は、独立に、1,4−フェニレン、1,4−シクロヘキサンまたは2,5−チオフェン、もしくは、ナフタレン−(2,6)−ジイルまたはアントラセン−(2,7)−ジイルを表し、Za1は−COO−、−OCO−、−O−、−CONH−基または単結合であり、nは0または1である)で表される、請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置。
- Aa1およびAa2の少なくとも一方は少なくとも1個のフッ素基で置換されている、請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向維持層に含有される前記重合体の前記多官能モノマーはジメタクリレートモノマーを含む、請求項7から9のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記ポリイミドは光反応性官能基を有する、請求項12に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記光反応性官能基は、シンナメート基、カルコン基、トラン基、クマリン基およびアゾベンゼン基からなる群から選択されたいずれかである、請求項13に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記ポリイミドは垂直配向性基を側鎖に有する、請求項12に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記配向膜は、電圧無印加時に前記液晶層の液晶分子が前記配向膜の主面の法線方向から傾くように前記液晶分子を規制する、請求項1から17のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示装置は複数の画素を有しており、
前記液晶層は、前記複数の画素のそれぞれにおいて、基準配向方位の互いに異なる複数の液晶ドメインを有している、請求項1から18のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記複数の液晶ドメインは4つの液晶ドメインである、請求項19に記載の液晶表示装置。
- アクティブマトリクス基板および対向基板を形成する工程と、
前記アクティブマトリクス基板と前記対向基板との間に垂直配向型の液晶層を形成するとともに、前記アクティブマトリクス基板と前記液晶層との間、および、前記対向基板と前記液晶層との間に、多官能モノマーの重合した重合体を含有する配向維持層を形成する工程と
を包含する、液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記アクティブマトリクス基板および前記対向基板を形成する工程は、
画素電極の設けられた第1絶縁基板および対向電極の設けられた第2絶縁基板を用意する工程と、
前記画素電極および前記対向電極の少なくとも一方の上に、ポリイミドと、多官能モノマーの重合した重合体とを含有する配向膜を形成する工程と
を含む、液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記配向膜を形成する工程は、
前記ポリイミドの前駆体と、前記多官能モノマーとを含有する配向膜材料を用意する工程と、
前記配向膜材料を付与し、加熱処理を行う工程であって、前記ポリイミドの前駆体をイミド化して前記ポリイミドを形成するとともに前記多官能モノマーを重合した重合体を形成する工程と
を含む、請求項21に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記加熱処理を行う工程は、プリベークを行い、その後、前記プリベークよりも高温でポストベークを行う工程を含む、請求項22に記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記配向維持層を形成する工程は光照射を行う工程を含む、請求項21から23のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
