Background of the invention
1.Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a stator for an electric motor, and more particularly to an amorphous metal stator for a high-efficiency radial magnetic flux motor.
[0002]
2.Description of prior art
Radial motors typically include a common cylindrical stator made from a stack of a plurality of stacked non-oriented electrical steels. Each stack has the shape of a circular washer with “teeth” forming the poles of the stator. The teeth protrude from the inner diameter of the stacked stack and are directed to the center of the cylindrical stator. Each laminate is typically formed by stamping, punching, or cutting mechanically soft, non-oriented electrical steel into the desired shape. The formed stack is then stacked and bundled to form a stator.
[0003]
Although amorphous metals provide superior magnetic performance compared to non-oriented electrical steels, they are long considered unsuitable for use in motors due to certain physical properties and corresponding manufacturing limitations. It was. For example, amorphous metals are thinner and stiffer than their non-oriented steel analogs, and therefore wear out production tools and dies faster. The resulting increase in tooling and manufacturing costs makes it commercially impractical to produce amorphous metal stators using such techniques. Further, the thinness of the amorphous metal increases the number of stacked stators to be assembled, and further increases the overall cost of the amorphous metal stator.
[0004]
Amorphous metal is typically supplied in thin continuous ribbons having a uniform ribbon width. However, amorphous metals are very hard materials and become very brittle once annealed to reach peak magnetic properties. This makes it difficult and expensive to use conventional techniques for constructing amorphous metal stators. In addition, the brittleness of amorphous metal raises concerns about the durability of motors or generators that use amorphous metal magnetic stators. Magnetic stators are subject to extremely high magnetic forces that vary at very high frequencies. These magnetic forces can put considerable stress on the stator material that can damage the amorphous metal magnetic stator.
[0005]
Another problem with amorphous metal magnetic stators is that the permeability of the amorphous metal material is reduced when the amorphous metal material is subjected to physical stress. This reduced permeability can depend considerably on the strength of the stress on the amorphous metal material. As the amorphous metal magnetic stator is stressed, the efficiency with which the core directs or converges the magnetic flux is reduced, resulting in higher magnetic losses, reduced efficiency, increased heat generation, and reduced power. become. This stress sensitivity due to the magnetostrictive nature of amorphous metals is due to the stresses resulting from magnetic forces during the operation of the motor or generator, mechanical clamping (clamping) or otherwise the machine resulting from fixing the magnetic stator in place Can be caused by mechanical stress, or internal stress caused by thermal expansion and / or expansion due to magnetic saturation of the amorphous metal material.
[0006]
Unprecedented approaches to amorphous metal stator design have been proposed. In one approach, a “toothless” stator consisting of a simple taped amorphous metal toroid has been proposed. While this approach has produced an efficient electric motor, the large air gap between the stator and rotor limits the performance and control of the electric motor. Another approach has attempted to replicate a conventional stator shape by combining a taped amorphous metal toroid with a cut amorphous metal stack. The wound amorphous metal toroid forms the back iron of the stator, and a stack of cut amorphous metal is provided on the inner diameter of the toroid to form teeth or poles. While this approach reduces the air gap between the stator and rotor, the magnetic flux must traverse many layers of taped back iron as it passes from the teeth to the back iron. This significantly increases the current required to operate the motor.
[0007]
