Description
The present invention relates to an image carrier, a transfer member that is pressed against the image carrier, and transfers an image on the image carrier to a recording material, and relates to an image forming apparatus that forms an image on the recording material and a process cartridge used therefor.
Here, the electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image on a recording medium using an electrophotographic image forming system. Examples of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus include, for example, an electrophotographic copying machine, an electrophotographic printer (for example, a laser printer, an LED printer, etc.), a factory device, a word processor, and a complex machine thereof (multifunction printer, etc.). .
A description will be given of an image carrier in an image forming apparatus according to the prior art and a pressure release mechanism for a transfer member that presses the image carrier.
In general, an electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image on a recording material by an electrophotographic image forming process using a photosensitive drum as an image carrier and a transfer roller as a transfer member. In recent years, the image forming unit is configured to employ a cartridge system in which the photosensitive member and the process means acting on the photosensitive member are integrated into a cartridge and the cartridge is detachable from the apparatus main body. ing.
However, regarding the image forming process, regardless of the configuration of the image forming unit, the above-described photosensitive drum is exposed by the exposure device to form an electrostatic latent image. Then, after the electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor is developed by the developing means, the developed image is transferred to the recording material by the transfer member. At this time, the transfer roller is in pressure contact with the photosensitive drum.
In addition, with regard to packing conditions, products that use the cartridge system in recent years are generally packed together with the main body and cartridge not mounted separately in one packing box when shipping the image forming apparatus. There were many.
However, in order to improve the packing efficiency by reducing the size of the packing box, there is an increasing form in which the cartridge is mounted in the product main body and shipped in a normal use state integrated with the product main body.
When shipping in such a normal use state, since the transfer roller is in pressure contact with the photosensitive drum as described above, the pressure contact state between the photosensitive drum and the transfer roller is changed along with transportation of the image forming apparatus. It lasts for a long time. For this reason, there is a possibility that permanent deformation of the transfer roller, rubbing between the transfer roller and the photosensitive drum, and contamination of the photosensitive member due to a softening material or a crosslinking material of the transfer member may occur. In order to prevent this, a mechanism for releasing the pressure contact between the photosensitive drum and the transfer roller has been proposed (Patent Document 1).
However, in the above conventional example, in order to release the press contact, it is necessary for an assembly operator to operate the release portion.
For example, when shipping from a manufacturing factory with the cartridge mounted on the apparatus main body, when the apparatus main body is started up by image confirmation etc. before shipment, the operation of the pressure release unit must be performed, and the assembly time is long. It becomes a cause of cost increase. It is difficult to confirm whether or not the pressure contact release unit is correctly operated in the product state in which the cartridge is mounted, and there is a concern that the product will be shipped in a state where the pressure contact release is not performed, and the troubles associated therewith will occur.
Moreover, it is difficult to further reduce the size of the apparatus body because it is necessary to secure an opening of a certain size and an internal work space for accessing the apparatus body to the pressure release unit.
An object of the present invention is to provide a configuration for releasing or reducing the pressure contact between an image carrier and a transfer member by a simpler operation. As a result, cost reduction and downsizing of the main body of the apparatus can be achieved, and when the apparatus main body is transported / transported, problems that have occurred between the image carrier and the transfer member pressed against the image carrier are prevented, and usability is improved. Can do.
A typical means in the present invention for solving the above-described problems is an image forming apparatus having a process cartridge that can be attached to and detached from the apparatus main body, and supports an image carrier that carries a toner image, and the image carrier. An image carrier shaft; a process cartridge provided on the image carrier shaft; and an image carrier helical gear that rotates together with the image carrier; and the image carrier when the process cartridge is attached to the apparatus main body. A transfer member for transferring an image formed on the image carrier to a recording material, a transfer member shaft for supporting the transfer member, and the transfer member in the direction of the image carrier. non not engaged with the transfer member biasing member for biasing a meshing position to mesh with the image bearing member the helical gear in the axial direction of the rotatable and the transfer member shaft over the previous SL transfer member axis Receiving a transfer member helical gear movable between a coupling position, the transfer member the helical gear biasing member for biasing the transfer member the helical gear in the axial direction of the transfer member shaft, the biasing force of the transfer member the helical gear urging member A locking member for locking the transfer member helical gear so as to hold the transfer member helical gear in the engagement position, and when the process cartridge is attached to the apparatus main body, the image carrier shaft Is driven, the transfer member helical gear receives the axial force of the transfer member shaft from the image carrier helical gear and resists the biasing force of the transfer member helical gear biasing member from the meshing position to the non-meshing position. Moved to a position to release the meshing state with the image carrier helical gear, the process cartridge is attached to the apparatus main body, and the transfer member When the process cartridge is removed from the apparatus main body after the meshing state of the sub gear and the image carrier helical gear is released, the transfer member helical gear is moved by the transfer member helical gear biasing member and the locking member. Is moved from the non-meshing position to the meshing position and held .
According to the present invention, since the apparatus main body can be transported and transported in a state in which the press contact state between the image carrier and the transfer member is released or reduced, it is possible to reduce problems that occurred during transport and transport in the press contact state. .
Release or reduction of the pressure contact between the image carrier and the transfer member can be easily and surely performed only by remounting after removing the process cartridge, and a factory worker can quickly perform the work with little need for work confirmation. Therefore, the assembly time can be shortened and the cost can be reduced. Furthermore, since it is not necessary to consider access to the pressure release part and securing of the internal work space, the apparatus main body can be downsized. Further, since the non-pressure contact state or the pressure contact reduced state is automatically released by driving the apparatus main body or the image carrier, usability can be improved.
Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

The image forming apparatus according to the first embodiment will be described. In this embodiment, a laser beam printer to which a process cartridge can be attached and detached is illustrated as an image forming apparatus. Further, as a shipping form here, the process cartridge is packed in an individual packaging box in a state of being mounted on the apparatus main body, and is transported and transported to an end user.

When the
Next, a case where the apparatus main body is activated and the
FIG. 9 is a diagram showing how the transfer
The drum
When the process cartridge is extracted from the pressure contact state, the
As described above, the user and the factory worker can release the separated state and activate the normal operation only by starting the apparatus main body without performing any special work. As a result, the above-mentioned problems (permanent deformation of the transfer roller, rubbing between the transfer roller and the photosensitive drum, contamination of the photosensitive drum due to a softening material or a bridging material of the transfer roller, etc.) can be reduced and usability can be improved. Can do. Further, an assembly operator in the factory can easily create a separation state between the photosensitive drum and the transfer roller only by reinserting the process cartridge, and there is less need for confirmation, so that the assembly time can be reduced and the cost can be reduced. In addition, since it is not necessary to consider access to the pressure release part and securing of the internal work space, the apparatus main body can be downsized.
Here, the position where the transfer roller is completely separated is illustrated as the second position. However, the position is not limited to this, and the second position of the transfer roller is released or reduced from the pressure contact with the photosensitive drum. It may be in the state.
In the present embodiment, the configuration in which the process cartridge includes the photoconductor is illustrated, but the same effect can be obtained even in the configuration in which the image forming apparatus main body includes the photoconductor.
[Second Embodiment]
Next, an image forming apparatus according to a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. In this embodiment, members having the same functions as those of the first embodiment described above and similar configurations are denoted by the same reference numerals, and description thereof is omitted.

Therefore, the user and the factory worker can release the separated state and activate the normal operation only by starting the apparatus main body without performing any special work. As a result, not only the above-mentioned problems (permanent deformation of the transfer roller, rubbing between the transfer roller and the photosensitive drum, contamination of the photosensitive drum due to a softening material or a crosslinking material of the transfer roller, etc.) can be reduced, but also usability should be improved. Can do.

[Third Embodiment]
Next, an image forming apparatus according to a third embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. In this embodiment, members having the same functions as those of the first embodiment described above and similar configurations are denoted by the same reference numerals, and description thereof is omitted.

When the power of the main unit is off, no current flows through the electromagnet of the transfer urging member 68 (deenergized), no magnetic force is generated, and no urging force is generated on the transfer urging
Even in such a configuration, the user and the factory worker can release the separated state only by starting the apparatus main body and perform normal operation without performing any special work. In addition, since it is not necessary to consider access to the pressure release part and securing of the internal work space, the apparatus main body can be downsized.
In addition, the pressure contact is reduced even when the process cartridge is not attached and detached when the user is used and the photosensitive drum and the transfer roller are left in the state where pressure contact is not released and the power is turned off. For this reason, the above-mentioned problems (permanent deformation of the transfer roller, rubbing between the transfer roller and the photosensitive drum, contamination of the photosensitive drum due to a softening material, a bridging material, or the like of the transfer roller) can be reduced.
It should be noted that the first, second, and third embodiments described above can be implemented in any combination.
