Description
The present invention relates to an electrophotographic image forming apparatus (hereinafter simply referred to as “image forming apparatus”) such as an electrophotographic copying machine, a facsimile machine, a laser beam printer, and a multifunction machine, and also relates to a process cartridge attached to and detached from the image forming apparatus. Is.
In an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a laser beam printer that forms an image on a recording medium by an image forming process using electrophotographic technology, for example, image formation is performed as follows. A charging roller constituting the charging means applies a charging bias voltage to an electrophotographic photosensitive drum (hereinafter simply referred to as “photosensitive drum”) to uniformly charge the drum surface. The photosensitive drum is selectively exposed by an exposure means such as a laser scanner to form an electrostatic latent image, and the developing roller constituting the developing means attaches developer (toner) to the electrostatic latent image. A toner image is formed. The toner image is transferred onto a sheet such as recording paper by a transfer roller as transfer means. The transferred toner image on the sheet is permanently fixed by being heated and pressed by a fixing roller constituting a fixing unit. Further, in the photosensitive drum after the toner image is transferred to the sheet, the residual toner that is not transferred and remains on the drum surface is scraped off by the cleaning blade and used for the formation of the next image.
In recent years, a process cartridge system in which a photosensitive drum is incorporated in a cartridge container to constitute a process cartridge and can be easily attached to and detached from the main body of the image forming apparatus to enhance user convenience has been widely put into practical use. In addition to the photosensitive drum, the process cartridge is configured to incorporate at least one of the above-described charging roller, developing roller, cleaning blade, and the like as process means acting on the photosensitive drum.
By the way, when such a process cartridge type image forming apparatus is shipped and transported at the physical distribution stage, for example, the charging roller or the developing roller may rub against the photosensitive drum due to vibration or impact, or the rollers may rub against each other and be damaged. is there. In addition to damage to the surface of the drum of the photosensitive drum, there is a risk that the resulting image may be defective if the surface of the charging roller or the developing roller is damaged. Many proposals have been made to prevent this.
For example, the present applicant has previously proposed a contact charging device that transports the charging roller in a separated state in which the charging roller is not separated from the surface of the photosensitive drum (see, for example, Patent Document 1). In this case, a spacer is sandwiched between the photosensitive drum and the charging roller in a non-image area portion outside the image writing area of the photosensitive drum and the charging roller. As another proposal, there is an image forming apparatus in which a photosensitive drum and a transfer roller are separated from each other by using a cam and a bracket and are in contact with each other during image formation (for example, see Patent Document 2). Furthermore, a process cartridge has also been proposed in which a spacer is sandwiched between the contact nip portion between the photosensitive drum having a predetermined nip width and the developing roller, and the developing roller is separated from the photosensitive drum (see, for example, Patent Document 3). .
After the transportation or the like, the image forming apparatus is installed and installed, and it is necessary to remove the spacer in advance before starting the operation. In the apparatus of
An object of the present invention is to protect against damage caused by rubbing process means of a process cartridge due to vibration or impact during shipping and transportation. It is characterized by.
According to the process cartridge of the present invention, the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means are protected from being rubbed against each other except during image formation. At the time of image formation, the separated state between the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means is automatically released, and the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means come into contact with each other. Therefore, it is not necessary for the user to perform the release operation.
In addition, according to the image forming apparatus of the present invention, when the process cartridge is transported in a state where it is mounted on the image forming apparatus main body, the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means are separated from each other, so that they are rubbed against each other and damaged. Don't worry. After the transportation, when the image forming apparatus main body is installed and the first operation is started, the separated state between the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means is automatically released, and the electrophotographic photosensitive drum and the process means come into contact with each other. . Thereby, it is possible to set to a state where image formation is possible. Furthermore, by preventing the second gear from inadvertently moving from the separation position to the contact position, it is possible to reliably separate the electrophotographic photosensitive drum from the process means.
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of a process cartridge and an image forming apparatus of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
(Image forming device)
FIG. 1 shows a laser beam printer which is a specific example of the image forming apparatus of this embodiment. The process cartridge B shown in FIG. 2 can be freely attached to and detached from the printer main body A, and this attachment and detachment direction is a sheet for feeding the
In synchronism with the formation of the toner image, the

The transfer roller 8 (see FIG. 1) is applied with a voltage having a polarity opposite to that of the toner image and transfers the toner image onto the
-Reference form 1 : Automatic separation of charging roller-
3 to 6 show a case of the charging
As shown in FIG. 3, the charging
A charging roller separation gear (separation release gear) 2c is attached coaxially with the rotation axis to at least one end of the rotation shaft of the charging
On the other hand, at a position corresponding to the position where the charging roller separation gear 2c is provided, a gear flange (passive gear portion) 1b is fitted and provided at one end of the drum coaxial with the rotation axis of the
FIG. 4 shows the
In this way, an automatic separation release mechanism having the charging roller separation gear 2c as a main member is configured, and is set in a state of being screwed and engaged between the
Next, referring to FIG. 4, FIG. 5 and FIG. 6, the printer main body A is installed under the user after transportation, and the automatic separation release mechanism is activated for the first operation to charge the separated state. The operation of automatically releasing the
As shown in FIG. 6A, before the initial operation of the printer main body A, the charging roller separation gear 2c of the automatic separation release mechanism is engaged and engaged between the
From this state, the printer body A is turned on. Driving force output from a rotational drive source (not shown) in the printer main body A is transmitted to the
- First Embodiment: Automatic spaced release of the charging roller -
7 to 9 show another first embodiment in which the separation state of the charging
FIG. 7 shows a state in which the
From this state, when the printer main body A is turned on to start image formation, the
As shown in FIG. 8, when the charging roller separation gear 2c starts to rotate, the notch 2c4 reaches the position of the restriction stopper 28d of the
As described above, according to the first embodiment, the charging roller separation gear 2c in the separated state is prevented from inadvertently moving due to engagement / disengagement with the restriction stopper 28d provided on the
Second Embodiment: Automatic Separation Release of Charging Roller
10A to 10C, as in the first embodiment, the charging roller separation gear 2c is prevented from inadvertently moving in the F direction when the charging
In FIG. 10A, a "first screw" is attached to the tip of the bearing boss 2c2 so that the
Next, the printer main body A is activated to start image formation, the charging
As described above, in the second embodiment, the charging roller separation gear 2c is supported by forming a screw, and the movement of the charging roller separation gear 2c is suppressed, so that the charging
Third Embodiment: Automatic Separation Release of Developing Roller
Up to the second embodiment, the charging
In describing the present embodiment, the internal structure of the process cartridge B can be broadly divided into two units: a cleaning
11 and 12 show the configuration of the latter developing
The developing
As shown in FIG. 12, the developing
Next, FIG. 13 shows a mechanism for separating the developing
A
The developing
An
Next, referring to FIGS. 13 to 15, the driving force is transmitted from the printer main body A to the process cartridge B in the cartridge mounted state, and the interval between the
When the printer main body A is turned on, the
FIG. 15 shows a state where the large-diameter gear portion 31b of the developing
Further, at the time of image formation, the small-diameter gear portion 31a of the developing
In the third embodiment, the mechanism for separating the developing
As described above, according to the third embodiment, before the printer main body A is turned on, the surfaces of both the
-Reference form 2 : Automatic separation release mechanism of transfer roller-
In the second embodiment , the
FIG. 16 shows the
A transfer
FIG. 17 shows a state in which the
Next, with reference to FIG. 17 and FIG. 18, a mode in which the
When the printer main body A is turned on, the
In the second embodiment , the mechanism for separating the
As described above, according to the second embodiment , if the surface of the
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and other embodiments, application examples, modified examples, and combinations thereof are possible as long as they do not depart from the spirit of the present invention.
For example, in the first embodiment, the second embodiment, and the first to third embodiments, a charging mechanism, a developing roller, a transfer roller, and the like are provided in the image area by providing a separation mechanism on one end side in the rotation axis direction. Each roller was separated from the photosensitive drum. On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 19, as long as the roller is separated from the photosensitive drum in the image area N, the other end side in the rotation axis direction may be in a state of contact to some extent.
