Description
図1は、本発明の実施形態に係るインクジェット記録装置の全体構成図である。同図に示したように、このインクジェット記録装置10は、黒(K),シアン(C),マゼンタ(M),イエロー(Y)の各インクに対応して設けられた複数のインクジェットヘッド(以下、ヘッドという。)12K,12C,12M,12Yを有する印字部12と、各ヘッド12K,12C,12M,12Yに供給するインクを貯蔵しておくインク貯蔵/装填部14と、記録媒体たる記録紙16を供給する給紙部18と、記録紙16のカールを除去するデカール処理部20と、前記印字部12のノズル面(インク吐出面)に対向して配置され、記録紙16の平面性を保持しながら記録紙16を搬送する吸着ベルト搬送部22と、印字部12による印字結果を読み取る印字検出部24と、記録済みの記録紙(プリント物)を外部に排紙する排紙部26と、を備えている。
次に、ヘッドの構造について説明する。色別の各ヘッド12K,12C,12M,12Yの構造は共通しているので、以下、これらを代表して符号50によってヘッドを示すものとする。
図6はインクジェット記録装置10におけるインク供給系の構成を示した概要図である。インクタンク60はヘッド50にインクを供給する基タンクであり、図1で説明したインク貯蔵/装填部14に設置される。インクタンク60の形態には、インク残量が少なくなった場合に、不図示の補充口からインクを補充する方式と、タンクごと交換するカートリッジ方式とがある。使用用途に応じてインク種類を変える場合には、カートリッジ方式が適している。この場合、インクの種類情報をバーコード等で識別して、インク種類に応じた吐出制御を行うことが好ましい。なお、図6のインクタンク60は、先に記載した図1のインク貯蔵/装填部14と等価のものである。
図7はインクジェット記録装置10のシステム構成を示す要部ブロック図である。インクジェット記録装置10は、通信インターフェース70、システムコントローラ72、画像メモリ74、ROM75、モータドライバ76、ヒータドライバ78、プリント制御部80、画像バッファメモリ82、ヘッドドライバ84等を備えている。

となる。上記の演算式から、駆動波形のスルーレートが大きいほど(波形の傾き急であるほど)、駆動電流Iが大きくなることが分かる。ON/OFF駆動のような傾きの時間が略一定である場合、電圧が高いほど駆動電流が大きくなることが分かる。
I=(C×V/t)×M
=(1 [nF] ×40 [V] /4 [μs] )×1000
=10 [A]
となり、4μsの瞬間に10Aの駆動電流が流れることになる。
図18は、本発明に係る他の実施形態を示すヘッド50の平面透視図である。図18の(a)に示したヘッド50は、短尺ヘッド50A、50B、50Cを主走査方向につなぎあわせて長尺化したラインヘッドである。このような構成のラインヘッドでは、製造上の歩留まりやノズル等の加工精度を向上させることができる一方で、同図の(b)に示すように、短尺ヘッドが副走査方向にずれて接続されているような場合、短尺ヘッド間の接続誤差を要因とする着弾位置のばらつきが問題となることがある。この点、本発明によれば、短尺ヘッド毎の着弾位置のばらつきだけでなく、短尺ヘッド間の接続誤差を要因とする着弾位置のばらつきを補正することができる。
Claims (11)
- 第1の方向に沿って所定のパターンで配列された複数のノズル及び前記複数のノズルに対応して設けられた複数の圧力発生素子を有し、前記圧力発生素子に駆動用の信号を与えて前記ノズルから液体を吐出させる液体吐出ヘッドと、
前記圧力発生素子を駆動するための基準波形と同一の波形形状であって該基準波形に対して所定の位相差を有する駆動信号波形を生成する複数の駆動波形発生回路と、
前記複数の駆動波形発生回路のうち前記圧力発生素子に対して前記駆動信号波形を与える駆動波形発生回路を選択的に切り替える回路選択手段と、
前記駆動波形発生回路を介して前記圧力発生素子に電力を供給する電源と、
前記複数のノズルから吐出される液体が前記第1の方向に沿って略直線状に着弾するように前記複数の駆動波形発生回路の中から所定の位相を有する前記駆動信号波形を生成する第1の駆動波形発生回路を前記圧力発生素子毎にそれぞれ選択し、前記第1の駆動波形発生回路と前記圧力発生素子が接続されるように前記回路選択手段を制御する制御手段と、
を備え、
前記制御手段は、前記複数の駆動波形発生回路の中に瞬間消費電流が所定の許容値を超える駆動波形発生回路が存在しないように、前記複数の圧力発生素子のうち少なくとも一部の前記圧力発生素子に関して、前記第1の駆動波形発生回路とは異なる第2の駆動波形発生回路に選択変更することを特徴とする画像形成装置。 - 前記第2の駆動波形発生回路は、他の駆動波形発生回路に比べて前記第1の駆動波形発生回路と位相差の少ない駆動信号波形を生成することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像形成装置。
- 前記複数のノズルの少なくとも一部のノズルは他のノズルから前記第1の方向に直交する第2の方向に、前記第2の方向のドットピッチより小さくオフセットされていることを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2に記載の画像形成装置。
- 前記制御手段は、前記液体吐出ヘッドの中央部側より端部側の前記ノズルに対応する前記圧力発生素子を優先して、前記第2の駆動波形発生回路に選択を変更することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。
- 前記第1の駆動波形発生回路及び前記第2の駆動波形発生回路で生成する駆動信号波形の位相は一致していることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。
- 予備用の駆動波形発生回路を更に備え、
前記制御手段は、前記第1の駆動波形発生回路の瞬間消費電流が所定の許容値を超える場合には、前記予備用の駆動波形発生回路を選択することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記電源の瞬間消費電流が所定の上限値以下となるように、前記複数の駆動波形発生回路の少なくとも1つで生成される駆動信号波形の位相を制御することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。
- 前記複数のノズルから成るノズル列は、前記第1の方向に直交しない斜めの方向に沿って複数列設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項7のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。
- 前記液体吐出ヘッドは、複数の短尺ヘッドを前記第1の方向に沿って配列して構成され、
前記制御手段は、前記短尺ヘッド毎の着弾位置が前記第1の方向に沿って略直線状となるだけでなく、前記短尺ヘッド間の着弾位置が前記第1の方向に沿って略直線状となるように、前記回路選択手段を制御することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項8のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記液体吐出ヘッドは、複数の短尺ヘッドを前記第1の方向に沿って配列して構成され、
前記制御手段は、前記短尺ヘッド毎の着弾位置が前記第1の方向に沿って略直線状となるだけでなく、前記短尺ヘッド間の着弾位置が前記第1の方向に沿って略直線状となるように、前記回路選択手段を制御し、更に、前記第1の駆動波形発生回路の瞬間消費電流が所定の許容値を超えないように、前記複数の短尺ヘッドのうち端部側の短尺ヘッドに設けられる前記圧力発生素子を優先して、前記第2の駆動波形発生回路に選択を変更することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項8のいずれか1項に記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記端部側の短尺ヘッドに設けられる前記複数のノズルのうち他の液体吐出ヘッドが配置される端部側から離れたノズルに対応する前記圧力発生素子を優先して、前記第2の駆動波形発生回路に選択を変更することを特徴とする請求項10に記載の画像形成装置。
