Description
The present invention relates to a field emission type (FED) type planar light source that can be suitably used for irradiating various display devices such as liquid crystal display devices from the back side.
For a planar light source that performs illumination having a planar spread, a planar system in which the planar light source is disposed directly under the liquid crystal display device, and a light guide plate is disposed directly under the liquid crystal display device, and an end surface of the light guide plate There is an edge light method in which a planar light source is arranged in parallel with the light source. In recent personal computers, thin televisions, and the like, which are prioritized in thinning, the edge light method has become the mainstream of planar light sources instead of the direct surface light sources. However, in the edge light system, if the incident efficiency of light incident on the light guide plate is low, it is difficult to expect high brightness. Compared to this, the direct method has an advantage that light can be directly incident on the liquid crystal display device and the light incident efficiency is extremely high.
In such a direct light source, a field emission type surface light source is provided with an anode film with a phosphor on the inner surface of the front panel and an electron emission cathode disposed on the inner surface of the rear panel so as to face the anode film with the phosphor. There is a light source (see Patent Document 1). This field emission type planar light source has a structure in which a front panel is attached to the back surface of a liquid crystal display device, and internal light emission is emitted to the liquid crystal display device through the front panel. In order to increase the incident efficiency of light, it is made relatively thin with a transparent member such as glass, etc. As the liquid crystal display device becomes larger and thinner, an excessive vacuum pressure is applied to the front panel, causing deformation. There is a problem that it is easy to receive.
Therefore, the problem to be solved by the present invention is that the front panel is not easily deformed by internal pressure without providing ribs, and can be configured to be large and thin, and furthermore, uniform and high-luminance light emission is possible without uneven light emission. It is to provide a field emission type planar light source.
The field emission type planar light source according to the present invention has a plurality of dome-shaped portions each having a dome-shaped cross section in a plane perpendicular to the depth direction, which are arranged side by side in the transverse direction, which is a direction perpendicular to the depth direction. A front panel is configured by extending in the direction, and an integrated rear panel is disposed in the horizontal direction corresponding to each dome-shaped portion, and an anode film with a phosphor is provided on the inner surface of each dome-shaped portion of the front panel. A wire-like cathode is arranged extending in the depth direction at the center position on the inner surface side of each part corresponding to each dome-shaped part of the rear panel, and the thickness of each dome-shaped part on the front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel. Thus, the absorbance is increased.
In addition, the field emission type planar light source according to the present invention has a plurality of front panels each having a dome-like cross-sectional shape in a plane orthogonal to the depth direction arranged side by side in the horizontal direction, which is a direction orthogonal to the depth direction. A plurality of rear panels are arranged in the horizontal direction corresponding to each front panel, an anode film with a phosphor is provided on the inner surface of each front panel, and at the center in the horizontal direction on the inner surface side of each rear panel. The wire-like cathode is extended in the depth direction, and the thickness of each front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel to increase the absorbance.
In the field emission type surface light source according to the present invention, a plurality of dome-shaped portions each having a dome-like cross-sectional shape in a plane perpendicular to the depth direction are integrally arranged side by side in a direction perpendicular to the depth direction. In addition, the front panel is configured by extending in the depth direction, and a plurality of rear panels are disposed in the horizontal direction corresponding to each dome-shaped portion, and an anode film with a phosphor is provided on the inner surface of each dome-shaped portion of the front panel. In addition, the wire-shaped cathode was extended in the depth direction at the center position on the inner surface side of each rear panel, and the thickness of each dome-shaped part of the front panel was increased as it was closer to the rear panel to increase the absorbance. It is a feature.
Furthermore, the field emission type planar light source according to the present invention includes a plurality of front panels each having a dome-shaped cross section in a plane orthogonal to the depth direction, arranged side by side in the horizontal direction, which is a direction orthogonal to the depth direction. A rear panel is integrally formed in the horizontal direction corresponding to each front panel, and an anode film with a phosphor is provided on the inner surface of each front panel, and each part of the rear panel corresponding to each front panel is provided. A wire-like cathode is arranged extending in the depth direction at the center in the lateral direction on the inner surface side, and the thickness of each front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel to increase the absorbance.
The wire-like cathode is preferably configured by forming a carbon film having a number of sharp fine portions on the surface of the conductive wire as an electron emission portion. It is preferable to form microscopic irregularities on the surface of the conductive wire because more electrons can be emitted by applying a lower electric field. The carbon film includes, for example, a film made of a carbon nanomaterial having a tube shape, a wall shape, or other shapes. The “sharp” can be sharply included as long as it has electron emission characteristics even if it is somewhat rounded.
According to the field emission type planar light source of the present invention, the rear panel and front panel each panel area the transverse width, even large and thin surface light source to both increase the depth width, a plurality of domes of the front panel Since each of the shape portion or the plurality of front panels is arranged side by side in a horizontal direction with a cross section in the lateral direction, the possibility of deformation due to internal pressure between the front panel and the rear panel is reduced.
According to the field emission type planar light source of the present invention, since the rib is not used at the position corresponding to the adjacent front panel, the intensity of the emitted light of the phosphor is lowered by the rib as in the prior art, and the reduction. It is not necessary to darken the striped pattern at the spot.
In the above, according to the field emission type planar light source of the present invention, there is no possibility that a bright and dark stripe pattern is generated between the adjacent front panels because there is no rib. However, if the thickness of the panel portions facing each other in the lateral direction of the adjacent front panel is the same, the light emitted from each panel portion is strengthened as the panel portions approach each other. The intensity of the emitted light between them becomes higher than the intensity of the emitted light from the center of the front panel, and although it does not form a dark stripe pattern, the intensity of the emitted light may not be uniformed in the horizontal direction.
A=log(Io/I)=ECLが成立する。 Therefore, in the present invention, the thickness of each dome-shaped portion of the front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel to increase the absorbance, or the thickness of each front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel to increase the absorbance. It is a feature. That is, according to Lambert's law, the intensity of incident light is Io, the intensity of transmitted light is I, the absorbance is A, the thickness of the layer through which light passes is L, the concentration of the substance that absorbs light is C, and the molar absorption is When the coefficient is E, A = log (Io / I) = ECL is established. From this equation, if the concentration C is constant, the intensity I of the transmitted light decreases exponentially as the thickness L of the layer through which the light passes increases. In the present invention, the thickness L of the layer through which the light passes corresponds to the thickness of the panel portion, and the density C of the front panel is constant in any panel portion. Further, the intensity Io of incident light is also constant. Therefore, in the present invention, the thickness of each dome-shaped portion of the front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel, or the thickness of each front panel is increased as it is closer to the rear panel. As the front panel is closer to the rear panel, the absorbance increases, and as a result, the intensity of light passing through the dome-shaped portion or front panel of the front panel decreases exponentially, and the dome-shaped portion or front panel of the adjacent front panel decreases. The intensity of the light passing therethrough is almost uniform when viewed from the plane direction. This homogenization can be achieved at a higher level with the dome shape setting of the front panel.
From the above, when the planar light source of the present invention is used as a backlight directly under a liquid crystal display device, it can be used as a backlight excellent in incident efficiency, incident light amount, uniform and high luminance emission.
In the present invention, the thickness of the panel portion can be increased exponentially as the panel height decreases. When the thickness of the panel portion is increased exponentially in this way, the intensity of light passing through the panel portion can be reduced proportionally as the panel height of the panel portion decreases.
In the present invention, a material having a constant absorbance can be selected as the material of the front panel regardless of the panel height. Even if the front panel is colorless and transparent glass, when light (light in the visible region or ultraviolet region) passes through the material, it changes to the electronic state of the material (change in which the electrons in the ground state transition) due to the energy of the light. , Light consumes energy. This phenomenon is called absorption (absorption). The energy consumed by light varies depending on the substance, and therefore the ratio between the intensity of incident light and the intensity of transmitted light can be set by selecting the material of the front panel.
It can be experimentally determined by using an absorptiometer or the like how much the thickness of the panel portion is increased in accordance with the reduction in the panel height, and how much the thickness of the panel portion can be made uniform.
Unlike Lambert's law, according to Beer's law, the intensity of transmitted light can be reduced exponentially by keeping the thickness of the panel portion constant regardless of the panel height and increasing the concentration. Therefore, as another invention, the front panel material may be made to have a higher density, that is, light transmittance, as the panel height becomes lower. For example, it can also be carried out by coloring the panel and changing the color density to light and shade.
According to the present invention, a field emission type planar light source that makes it difficult to be deformed by an internal pressure without providing ribs, and that can be made large and thin, and can emit light uniformly and with high brightness without unevenness in light emission. Can be provided.
Hereinafter, a field emission type planar light source (abbreviated as planar light source) according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
A planar light source according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a surface light source as viewed from the front direction, FIG. 2 is a plan view showing the surface light source as viewed from the plane direction, and FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of the main part of the surface light source in FIG. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the relationship between panel thickness and absorbance according to Lambert's law.

In the embodiment, the wire-
In the planar
A relationship between the thickness of the panel portion 12a and the absorbance of the panel portion 12a will be described with reference to FIGS. FIG. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view showing the main part of the planar light source of FIG. 1, and FIG. 4 shows the panel thickness (L) on the horizontal axis and the absorbance (E = log (Io / I)) on the vertical axis. FIG.
