Description

本発明は、テレビジョン番組の提案(television program suggestion)の方法及びその方法を実行するための装置に関する。この方法は特に電子番組ガイド(EPG: electronic program guide)の視聴者の使い方に基づくテレビジョン番組の提案の方法に関する。
視聴者に利用可能なテレビジョン番組の数が増えるにつれて、視聴者は興味のある番組を見つけることがますます難しくなってきている。ＥＰＧは、特定のジャンル、チャンネル、放送時間帯等に従いグループ化された今後放送される番組を表示することによりこの問題を克服するに役立つ。より高度な多くのテレビジョン番組の提案の方法が知られていて、視聴者のプロファイルに基づく提案を用いて、ＥＰＧを介して視聴者に提案を通常は表示する。この視聴者のプロファイルは、視聴者の興味に関係する情報を含み、ユーザが入力する好みにより明示的に、又は視聴者の行動の様相から暗黙的に得られる興味の情報により生成されてよい。
特許文献WO 00/04708は、提案を行うために視聴者が現在見ている番組に関係する情報を用いるテレビジョン番組の提案の方法を説明している。これはコンテキスト依存(context-sensitive)型の提案方法として説明され、提案のためのコンテキストは現在見ている番組に関係する情報により与えられる。
視聴者が現在見ている番組に関係する情報を用いたテレビジョン番組の提案の方法は、現在見ている番組、すなわち何らかのやり方で現在のコンテキストに関係する番組を提案することに必ず制限されてしまうが、現在見ている番組が視聴者の興味に適切ではない場合、視聴者は番組の提案を要求してよい。現在の番組に基づく提案に制限することは、狭すぎる範囲の番組の提案を供給してしまう。
本発明の好ましい実施例の目的は、上述された制限を持たないコンテキストベースの番組の提案を供給するＥＰＧからなる視聴者の使い方に基づいてテレビジョン番組を提案する方法を提供することである。
本発明の第１の態様によれば、テレビジョン番組を提案する方法を提供することであり、この方法は、提供される番組の提案が視聴者の興味のプロファイルと、ＥＰＧ構造における視聴者の現在の位置とに基づいている。
視聴者のプロファイルだけに基づいた簡単な提案以外のコンテキストベースの提案を提供することは、より焦点が合った提案を与えられることを保証し、これは、そのときの視聴者の実際の視聴の好みに合っていると思われる。
好ましくは、現在の位置から直接アクセス可能であり、前記プロファイルからの視聴者の好みと密接に相関する番組の選択肢が視聴者に提案される。
適切には、視聴者に提供される第１の提案は、視聴者の好みに最も密接な相関関係を持つ現在の位置からの番組の選択である。
ＥＰＧ構造における視聴者の現在の位置は、
（i） 特定のチャンネルに関係する情報位置（番組の提案はこのチャンネルから優先順で供給される）
（ii） 特定の放送時間帯に関係する情報位置（番組の提案はこの放送時間帯から優先順で供給される）
（iii） 特定の番組ジャンルに関係する情報位置（番組の提案はこの番組ジャンル又はこの番組ジャンルの一部から優先順で供給される）
又は如何なる他の適切な情報位置、

適切には、提供される番組の提案は、ＥＰＧ構造における視聴者の位置が変わるたびに更新される。
適切には、提供される番組の提案は、特に番組の提案を表示するためのピクチャ・イン・ピクチャウィンドウ(picture-in-picture window)に表示される。しかしながら、この番組の提案は、存在するＥＰＧウィンドウにおいて、関連する番組を強調することにより表示されてよい。関連する番組が特定されない場合、提案は表示されない。
本発明の第２の態様によれば、本発明の第１の態様の方法を実行するための装置を供給し、この装置はＥＰＧ、視聴者にこのＥＰＧにおける位置を変えることを可能にするインタフェース、記憶される視聴者の好みのプロファイル、テレビジョン番組とこのテレビジョン番組に関係する情報とを含む信号を入力する受信機及びＥＰＧにおける視聴者の現在の位置と記憶されるプロファイルにおける好みとに基づいて番組の提案を提供するための手段を有する。

本発明の第３の態様によれば、第２の態様の装置を含むテレビジョン表示装置と、入力された信号と、前記ＥＰＧからの情報及び提供される番組を表示することが可能な表示器とを備える。
本発明をよりよく理解するため、且つ同じ実施例が実施される方法を示すために、付随する概略的な実施例を例として参照する。
本発明によるテレビジョン番組の提案の方法を提供するときに含まれる説明ステップが図１に示されている。ＥＰＧ構造及びコンテキストベースの番組の提案機能を入力する際に、図１の手順がステップ１０において開始される。この後のどの時点においても、処理は、前記コンテキストベースの番組の提案機能を終了させることによるステップ２４への直接のジャンプにより終了してよい。ステップ１２は、視聴者のプロファイルのアクセスを含む。この視聴者のプロファイルは前記方法を実行する装置に局所的に記憶されてよいし、代わりに遠隔のデータベースから供給されてもよい。この視聴者のプロファイルがアクセスされた後、今度の番組の内容に関する情報がステップ１４において入手される。メタデータ(metadata)はＥＰＧ信号と一緒に放送される。次に、ステップ１６において、ＥＰＧコンテキストが決定される。このＥＰＧコンテキストは、視聴者が現在閲覧しているＥＰＧ構造における位置を有する。例えば、視聴者が特定の時間に示される番組を介して閲覧してもよく、この番組は特定のチャンネルにおいて又は特定のチャンネル形式（例えば音楽チャンネル、スポーツチャンネル、映画チャンネル等）により示される。ステップ１８において、視聴者のプロファイル、ＥＰＧコンテキスト及び今度の番組の情報が視聴者に適切な番組の提案を提供するのに用いられる。このステップにおいて、ＥＰＧコンテキストとプロファイルとの間の密接な相関関係を目標とする提案を提示するように、前記コンテキストは、視聴者のプロファイルと相関している。ステップ１９において、前記コンテキストが変化したかが決められる。コンテキストが変化しない場合、前記方法はステップ２０に進み、そうでなければ、処理はステップ１６に戻る。ステップ２０において、提案される番組の１つが選択される場合、前記方法は、選択された番組が表示されるステップ２２に進み、次に前記処理が終了するステップ２４に進む。ステップ２０において、番組が選択されなかったと判断される場合、前記処理はステップ１８に戻る。
図２は、本発明を実行するための装置の実施例を示す。図２に示される装置は、テレビジョン表示装置３００を有する。テレビジョン放送信号がこのテレビジョン表示装置３００によりアンテナ３０において入力される。テレビジョン放送信号はデジタル又はアナログ信号を有し、地上、衛生、ケーブル又は他の適切な技術により放送されてよい。アンテナ３０において入力される信号は、復調／同調ブロック３２に与えられる。この復調／同調ブロック３２は、ビデオ信号をビデオミキサ３４に与える。この復調／同調ブロック３２により出力されるビデオ信号は、特定のテレビジョンチャンネルを有する。ビデオミキサ３４は光学出力デバイス３６に直接結合され、このデバイスは例えば陰極線管又は他の如何なる適切な装置でよい。
復調／同調ブロック３２は、放送信号に含まれるＥＰＧ情報を抽出し、この情報をＥＰＧブロック３８に与える。ＥＰＧブロック３８に与えられるＥＰＧ情報は、視聴者がＥＰＧ機能を使用しているとき、光学出力デバイス３６の表示の前にビデオミキサ３４に与えられるべきビデオ形式の今度の番組に関する情報だけでなく、視聴者がコンテキストベースの番組の提案を要求するとき、提案エンジン４６に与えられることができる今度のＴＶ番組に関するメタデータも有する。このメタデータはテレビジョン放送信号から抽出した後、ＥＰＧデータベース３９に記憶される。図２のテレビジョン表示装置３００において、ユーザプロファイルはプロファイルブロック４４に記憶されているが、このユーザプロファイルは代わりに遠隔的に記憶されてもよい。プロファイルブロック４４に含まれる情報は、ライフスタイルの固定観念を選択するユーザにより、又は視聴者の行動の統計からの暗黙的なフィードバックの如何なる形式により、例えば質問事項に対する視聴者の応答からの明示的なフィードバックのような如何なる適切な技術を介して取得される。
視聴者は、遠隔制御ユニット４０を用いることによりテレビジョン表示装置３００の動作を制御する。この遠隔制御ユニットは、他の制御デバイスが当業者により考案されたとしても、視聴者により操作される場合、赤外線信号を生成する。遠隔制御ユニット４０からの赤外線信号は、赤外線受信機４２により入力される。赤外線受信機４２はミキサ３４を介して表示装置３６に与えられるＴＶチャンネルを制御するために、復調／同調ブロック３２に制御信号を送る。さらに、赤外線受信機４２は視聴者のＥＰＧの操作を制御するために制御信号をＥＰＧブロック３８に与える。このＥＰＧブロック３８は、光学出力デバイス３６において表示されるビデオ信号に混合するためのビデオミキサ３４に第１の信号を与える。視聴者はＥＰＧを使用している間、チャンネルの変更を始めてもよく、これによりＥＰＧブロック３８の第２の出力は復調／同調ブロック３２の制御入力部に与えられる。
ＥＰＧを使用している視聴者が本発明によるコンテキストベースの提案機能を開始する場合、ＥＰＧブロック３８はこの要求を提案エンジン４６へ与える。

視聴者は、番組の提案の１つを承認し、この承認の信号を送るために、遠隔制御ユニット４０を用いてＥＰＧ構造を介して操縦する。この場合、ＥＰＧブロック３８は信号をこのブロックの第２の出力部から復調／同調ブロック３２の制御入力部に与える。復調／同調ブロック３２は所望のテレビジョンチャンネルに同調し、関連するビデオ情報を光学出力デバイス３６に表示するためのビデオミキサ３４に送る。
代わりに、視聴者は、より多くの関連する番組を探し出そうとして、ＥＰＧ構造を介して閲覧し続ける。この場合、視聴者がＥＰＧ構造を介して操縦するので、ＥＰＧコンテキストが変化し、提案エンジン４６は新しい提案を提供する。
代わりに、視聴者は、提案番組を選択せずに、コンテキストベースの提案機能をいつでも終了させてよく、テレビジョン表示装置３００を異なるやり方で操作してよい。
テレビジョン表示装置３００のコンテキストベースの提案機能を用いて視聴者に示されるスクリーン表示器の形式の実施例が図３Ａから図３Ｅに示される。光学出力デバイス３６の出力がスクリーン４００に現れる。スクリーン４００は、図３Ａに示されるように、テレビジョン番組の内容４１０と、ＥＰＧ情報を表示するピクチャ・イン・ピクチャウィンドウ４２０とを示す。図３Ａに示されているように、ピクチャ・イン・ピクチャウィンドウ４２０に表示されるＥＰＧ情報は、視聴者にコンテキストベースの番組提案機能を入力するオプションをボックス４２２内に供給する。視聴者がコンテキストベースの番組提案機能を稼動させ、例えば映画に関するＥＰＧを閲覧することを選択する場合、表示されるスクリーン４００における出力の形式の実施例が図３Ｂに与えられる。テレビジョン番組４１０及びＥＰＧ情報ウィンドウ４２０と共に、番組提案を含む新しいピクチャ・イン・ピクチャウィンドウ４３０が表示される。ユーザの現在のＥＰＧコンテキストが"映画"であるため、ウィンドウ４３０に提供される提案は視聴者のプロファイルと、視聴者が現在映画を探しているという事実とに基づいている。これにより、これらの制限がプロファイルに含まれない限り、前記提案は特定ジャンルの映画に限定されないだけでなく、特定のチャンネル等にも限定されない。視聴者が例えばアクション映画のような特定ジャンルの映画を閲覧することを選択する場合、表示されるスクリーンの形式の実施例は図３Ｃに与えられる。ここで、視聴者のコンテキストがアクション映画に関係するので、ウィンドウ４３０に提案及び表示される番組は、視聴者のプロファイルとこの新しいコンテキストとに基づいている。

提案エンジンは本質的に現在閲覧されるＥＰＧのコンテキストに位置する番組に関係するメタデータと、既知の視聴者のプロファイルとの間の相関関係を評価し、最も高い相関関係に基づいて提案を表す。しかしながら、前記閲覧されるコンテキストの上記メタデータと、既知の視聴者のプロファイルとの間の低い相関関係だけしか存在しない場合は、提案は行われない。相関関係のしきい値レベルは、コンテキストベースである提案が前記しきい値よりも低い相関レベルを入力する場合、提案無しと示されるように、装置内において予め設定される。
提案された番組を選択するために、視聴者はウィンドウ４３０を稼動させ、一旦このウィンドウ４３０内を閲覧し、通常のやり方で提案を選択する。

Claims (6)

  1. テレビジョン番組の提案を提供する提案エンジンと、
    前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報を記憶する電子番組ガイドブロックと、
    視聴者の好みのプロファイルを記憶するプロファイルブロックと、
    前記視聴者が前記電子番組ガイドにおける閲覧位置を変えることを可能にするインタフェース部と、
    前記視聴者が前記テレビジョン番組と前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報とを含む信号を入力する受信機と、
    前記入力された信号のテレビジョン番組、前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報、及び前記テレビジョン番組の提案を表示することが可能な表示器と
    を有するテレビジョン表示装置において前記視聴者の好みと密接に相関する前記テレビジョン番組の選択肢を前記視聴者に提案する方法において、
    前記提案エンジンは、前記視聴者の好みのプロファイルと前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置とに基づいて前記テレビジョン番組の提案を提供するステップと、
    前記提案エンジンは、前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置が変化するたびに前記テレビジョン番組の提案を更新するステップと
    を有することを特徴とする方法。
  2. 前記視聴者に提供される最初の前記提案は、前記視聴者の好みと最も密接な相関関係を持つ、前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置からの前記テレビジョン番組の選択肢である請求項１に記載の方法。
  3. 前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置と前記視聴者の好みのプロファイルとの間の相関関係が既定レベルよりも低い場合、前記提案が行われない請求項１に記載の方法。
  4. 前記電子番組ガイドにおいて前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドのコンテキストは、
    （ｉ）特定のチャンネルに関係し、この場合前記視聴者に提案される前記番組の選択肢は当該チャンネルから優先順で供給される情報位置と、
    （ｉｉ）特定の放送時間帯に関係し、この場合前記視聴者に提案される前記番組の選択肢はこの放送時間帯から優先順で供給される情報位置と、
    （ｉｉｉ）特定の番組ジャンルに関係し、この場合前記視聴者に提案される前記番組の選択肢はこの番組ジャンル又はこの番組ジャンルの一部から優先順で供給される情報位置と
    を含む請求項１に記載の方法。
  5. 提供される前記テレビジョン番組の提案は、特に前記テレビジョン番組の提案を表示するためのピクチャ・イン・ピクチャウィンドウに表示される請求項１に記載の方法。
  6. テレビジョン番組の提案を提供する提案エンジンと、
    前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報を記憶する電子番組ガイドブロックと、
    視聴者の好みのプロファイルを記憶するプロファイルブロックと、
    前記視聴者が前記電子番組ガイドにおける閲覧位置を変えることを可能にするインタフェース部と、
    前記視聴者が前記テレビジョン番組と前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報とを含む信号を入力する受信機と、
    前記入力された信号のテレビジョン番組、前記テレビジョン番組に関係する情報、及び前記テレビジョン番組の提案を表示することが可能な表示器と
    を有するテレビジョン表示装置において、
    前記提案エンジンは、前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置と前記視聴者の好みのプロファイルとに基づいて前記テレビジョン番組の提案を提供し、
    前記提案エンジンは、前記視聴者が現在閲覧している前記電子番組ガイドにおける位置が変化するたびに前記テレビジョン番組の提案を更新する
    ことを特徴とするテレビジョン表示装置。
