Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a shielded connector including a shield metal shell for preventing electrical noise on an outer peripheral surface of an insulating housing that holds a contact.
[0002]
[Prior art]
It is known that a metal shield member is disposed on the outer peripheral surface of a substantially box-shaped insulating housing of an electrical connector for the purpose of preventing electrical noise. Examples of this type of shielded electrical connector are disclosed in Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 5-34679, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-83866, and the like. The disclosed electrical connector is a board-mounted connector, and a pair of substantially U-shaped shield members made of a metal plate are arranged so as to overlap four or three surfaces of a substantially box-shaped insulating housing. The

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In recent years, electrical connectors tend to be miniaturized, and the above-described board-mounted connectors are also required to be small. In addition, it is desired that the manufacturing cost is low and the dimensional stability is high. It is also important to improve and stabilize the shielding performance while reducing the size.

However, in the connector as described above, since the

In addition, when examining this type of connector from the viewpoint of further reducing the size and weight while maintaining the necessary shielding performance, it was found that there is still room for improvement in the insulating housing itself. . That is, the conventional insulating housing is formed in a substantially box shape having six surfaces. However, when paying attention to the original function of the insulating housing, it is only necessary to exhibit the function of electrically maintaining the shield member and the plurality of contacts covering the insulating housing in addition to the function of holding the plurality of contacts. In this regard, the conventional insulating housing has a structure that is covered with a metal shield member that is excellent in strength, but has an extra thickness and a structural portion. Therefore, further reduction in size and weight can be achieved. There was a problem that it was difficult to plan.
[0009]
On the other hand, in connectors where insertion and removal are frequently repeated, the contact stability (contact strength) between the shield members of the plug connector and the receptacle connector gradually decreases due to wear or deformation of the fitting portion, resulting in rattling. There is a case. Therefore, depending on the frequency of insertion / extraction and the state thereof, there is a risk that the grounding stability for guiding the noise component to the ground on the substrate side may be impaired, or the stability of insertion / extraction may be impaired.
[0010]
In particular, regarding grounding stability, the electrical connection between the plug side and the receptacle side becomes unstable due to rattling, making it difficult to stably guide the transmitted noise component to the ground on the board side. There was a concern.
[0011]
The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to reduce the size and weight of the shield-type connector, particularly on the receptacle side, and to withstand long-term abuse. It is an object of the present invention to provide a shielded connector that is highly effective in removing noise components when connected to the plug side, while improving the connection reliability with the plug side and the stability of insertion / extraction.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention employs the following means.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, an insulating housing holding a contact and a shield member overlapping the surface of the insulating housing are provided, and the shield member surrounds a fitting opening into which a terminal portion of the mating connector is fitted. A shielded connector including a metal shell having a surrounding frame portion, and a metal shield disposed between the metal shell and the insulating housing,
The insulating housing is formed in a substantially box shape having a plurality of openings, and an upper plate portion that forms a part of the upper surface, a bottom plate portion that forms a part of the bottom surface, and insertion of a terminal portion of the mating connector A front portion having a mouth, and a rear portion having a contact outlet, and both side portions are open and the open side portions are covered with the shield member. To do.
[0013]
According to this means, the side portions on both sides of the insulating housing are released and the side plate portions on both sides are eliminated, so that the insulating housing itself can be made smaller and lighter, and thus the entire connector can be reduced. A reduction in size and weight can be achieved. Further, since the both side surfaces of the insulating housing that are released are covered with the shield member, the strength of the entire connector and the necessary shielding performance are sufficiently ensured.
[0014]
According to a second means of the present invention, the metal shield in the first means has a top shield part that covers the top surface of the insulating housing and side shield parts that cover the released side surface parts of the insulating housing. Each of the shield portions is provided with a spring piece that contacts the left and right side surfaces facing each other when the terminal portion of the mating connector is fitted to hold the fitting state of the terminal portion.
[0015]
According to this second means, the spring pieces are provided on the side shield part of the metal shield, but since both side parts of the insulating housing are released, both spring pieces are placed on the side face of the terminal part of the mating connector. Each can be contacted, and the terminal portion is held in a stable state without rattling. Thereby, the electrical connection between the plug side which is the counterpart connector and the receptacle side becomes stable, and the transmitted noise component can be stably guided to the ground on the board side. Further, when the spring piece comes into contact with the side surface of the terminal portion, frictional resistance and positioning action occur between the terminal side surface and the spring piece when the plug connector is inserted and removed. Since this resistance and positioning action are stabilized by the spring piece, the stability of insertion / extraction is also improved.
[0016]
According to a third means of the present invention, an engagement piece is provided on the upper surface shield portion of the metal shield in the first and second means to engage with the concave portion of the terminal portion surface when the terminal portion of the mating connector is fitted. The engaging piece is guided into the insulating housing through an opening formed in the upper plate portion of the insulating housing.
[0017]
According to the third means, the engagement piece provided on the upper shield portion of the metal shield engages with the recess on the surface of the terminal portion to hold the terminal portion. Therefore, in addition to the positioning action of the spring piece, the positioning action by the engaging piece is also applied to the terminal part, so that the terminal part is held in a more stable state. Thereby, the electrical connection stability (grounding stability) between the plug side and the receptacle side and the stability of insertion / extraction can be further improved. Since an opening for guiding the engaging piece into the insulating housing is formed in the upper plate portion of the insulating housing, this opening also contributes to the weight reduction of the insulating housing.
