給紙部から供給された転写紙に画像のトナー像を転写する転写部と、前記転写紙を前記転写部から定着部に送る搬送機構とを筐体状の本体に備え、前記搬送機構は、前記転写紙を裏面から支持する搬送ガイド体と前記転写紙を負圧に基づいて前記搬送ガイド体に押付ける負圧発生機構とを有する画像形成装置であって、
前記搬送ガイド体は、水平軸芯の回りで前記本体に対して回動自在な揺動ユニットの一部として設けられ、前記転写紙を前記定着部に送るための閉鎖姿勢と前記転写部を開放する開放姿勢との間で前記本体に対して姿勢変更可能に設けられており、前記負圧発生機構は、前記搬送ガイド体の背面側に設けられた吸引ダクトと、前記本体の側に配置され、延長ダクトが一体的に設けられた吸引ファンとからなり、前記搬送ガイド体が前記開放姿勢のときには、前記吸引ダクト及び前記延長ダクトの断面が外部に露出すると共に、前記搬送ガイド体が前記閉鎖姿勢のときには、前記吸引ダクト及び前記延長ダクトとの連通方向が前記水平軸芯の方向と同じ方向になる状態で前記吸引ダクト及び前記延長ダクトの断面が互いに重なり合うことにより前記吸引ダクトと前記吸引ファンとの連通状態が達成されるように構成されている画像形成装置。
