Description
The present invention relates to a keyboard wiring structure for connecting a computer keyboard and a planar board using a flat cable. Furthermore, when the keyboard and the planar board are connected by an FPC cable, stress is applied even if the terminal position is shifted. The present invention relates to a wiring structure in which no occurrence occurs.
In a notebook personal computer (hereinafter referred to as a notebook PC), a liquid crystal display device is provided inside a lid that is rotatably attached to a system casing. A keyboard unit is attached to the system casing so as to face the display surface of the liquid crystal display device with the lid closed. The keyboard unit is one of input devices for a notebook PC. In the keyboard unit, a plurality of keystroke buttons (keys) such as alphabetic keys, numeric keys, and function keys are arranged on the upper surface of the base plate.
On the other hand, in the system housing, a planar board on which basic devices such as a CPU, a memory, a BIOS ROM, and an expansion slot are mounted is housed. A planar board is also called a mother board or a system board. A signal when each key of the keyboard unit is pressed is transferred to the planar board as a user input signal to the notebook PC. Generally, the keyboard unit is manufactured separately from the system casing, and is attached to the system casing after the planar board is attached.
Therefore, when the keyboard unit is attached to the system casing, it is necessary to electrically connect the keyboard unit and the planar board. As a method of connecting the keyboard unit and the planar board, for example, a method of directly connecting a terminal attached to the keyboard unit and a terminal of the planar board with freedom of movement as described in Patent Document 1 There is.
Further, as a prior art for the invention of Patent Document 1, a method of connecting a keyboard unit and a planar board with a flexible printed circuit board (hereinafter referred to as FPC) to which terminals are attached is described in the same document. . The FPC is a structure in which a circuit portion is formed by precise etching of copper foil on one or both sides of a base film made of polyimide, and the surface is further protected by a cover lay made of a film of polyimide or polyester. The FPC has a structure suitable for bending in a direction perpendicular to the plane (out-of-plane direction), and is often used for wiring of electronic devices such as notebook PCs and mobile phones. However, the FPC has a structure that cannot be bent in a direction parallel to the plane (in-plane direction). Forcibly bending it in the in-plane direction will cause stress in the FPC and cause cracks in the wiring pattern and solder connection parts of the terminals. It has the disadvantage of causing delamination.
As an electrical connection structure between the keyboard unit and the planar board in the notebook PC, if the FPC connection method as described in Patent Document 1 is adopted, the degree of freedom corresponding to the change in the terminal mounting position on the planar board is improved. To do. In the FPC connection method, one end of an FPC cable is connected to a signal circuit from a key by a base plate constituting a keyboard unit, and a cable terminal is attached to the other end. The FPC cable usually has no portion fixed to the base plate other than the lead-out portion from the base plate. Such an FPC cable with a cable terminal is a component of a keyboard unit, and the keyboard unit is manufactured by a keyboard manufacturer. In addition, a board terminal connected to the cable terminal is attached to the planar board.
Various external connectors such as Ethernet (registered trademark), USB, and power supply are attached to the periphery of the planar board, and these connectors can be accessed from outside the system housing. . In recent years, as the size of LCD panels has expanded and the aspect ratios of the notebook PCs have increased, there are many models that change only the vertical and horizontal sizes of the system chassis without changing the planar board. . Even in this case, the planar board needs to be attached to the system chassis so that the external connector can be accessed from the outside of the system chassis. It depends on the model. On the other hand, the size of the keyboard unit is determined according to the standard according to the number of keys, and even if the model changes, it is arranged in the center of the system casing.
When the same keyboard unit is applied to notebook PCs of various models, there may be a difference between the position of the cable terminal in the width direction of the FPC cable and the position of the board terminal of the planar board. Even in that case, the FPC cable has almost no flexibility in the in-plane direction, so it is deformed so as to generate distortion by adding a twist or an extra bend, and twists out of the in-plane direction. It can cope to some extent. However, since the distance between the base plate of the cable unit and the planar board is as narrow as several millimeters, there is a limit to the method that can be expected for the distortion of the FPC cable.
For example, when a curved folded portion is provided on the FPC cable and the cable terminal is connected to a board terminal whose position is shifted in the width direction of the FPC cable, the FPC cable is moved in the out-of-plane direction in order to absorb the stress caused by the in-plane movement. It becomes a twisted shape. If the base plate is attached to the system chassis after the cable terminals are connected to the planar board, the FPC cable will receive pressure from the base plate and the planar board because the distance between the base plate and the planar board is narrow. As a result, the conductor pattern may be bent partially, causing cracks in the conductor pattern or peeling of the coating layer.
A manufacturer of a notebook PC is required to always have a keyboard having 30 or more different key arrangements for one model of the notebook PC in order to support major languages all over the world. For this reason, if the keyboard unit is prepared for each model of the notebook PC by changing the drawing position of the FPC cable from the keyboard unit or changing the shape of the FPC cable in order to cope with the above-described displacement, the number of parts increases. This is undesirable because it increases costs and complicates parts management. Therefore, it is desirable that the same keyboard unit can support many notebook PC models.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a connection structure between a keyboard unit and a circuit board that does not generate stress even if the positions of the cable terminal and the board terminal are shifted. A further object of the present invention is to provide a computer adopting such a wiring structure.
In the present invention, the keyboard unit wiring structure includes a base plate, a circuit board, a flat cable, cable terminals, and board terminals. The base plate and the circuit board face each other at a predetermined interval. The flat cable drawn from the base plate has a curved folded portion and is sandwiched between the base plate and the circuit board. A cable terminal is attached to the distal end side of the flat cable, and a board terminal is attached to the circuit board. A first reference line is defined that passes through the center of the cable terminal for a flat cable in its natural state. The first reference line intersects the longitudinal center line of the cable terminal at a right angle or other angle.
The board terminal is attached to the circuit board so that a second reference line defined at a position substantially parallel to the first reference line and separated from the first reference line by a predetermined distance passes through the center. It has been. The distance between the first reference line and the second reference line defines the shift amount in the in-plane direction of the cable terminal. Therefore, when the cable terminal and board terminal are connected, the flat cable cannot maintain its natural state, and the top and bottom are sandwiched between the base plate and the circuit board, causing stress to the flat cable. appear.
In the present invention, when the cable terminal is connected to the board terminal, the cable terminal includes a vertical movement in which the cable terminal moves in a direction perpendicular to the first reference line. Both terminals may be attached so that the center lines intersect at a predetermined angle, and in addition to the vertical movement, a rotational movement centered on the folded portion may be included. When the cable terminal includes rotational movement, the allowable shift amount of the board terminal corresponding to the interval between the first reference line and the second reference line can be increased more than when only the vertical movement is performed.
The folded portion does not come into contact with the base plate or the circuit board even when the flat cable in a natural state is sandwiched between the base plate and the circuit board. When the cable terminal is vertically moved to connect to the board terminal, the flat cable absorbs the cause of stress by rotating and tilting the cable block at the folded portion. When a flat cable is sandwiched between the base plate and the circuit board, the end of the rotated cable block hits the base plate and the circuit board, and the ends of the cable block hit each other to restrict the rotation operation. The folded portion absorbs the cause of stress generated in the flat cable until it is done. Such a stress absorbing action of the slit with respect to the vertical movement of the cable terminal can prevent damage to the flat cable and damage to the solder connection portion of the cable terminal or the board terminal.
The keyboard is usually long in the left-right direction when used by the user. When the flat cable is arranged on the base plate so that the first reference line is substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the base plate, the mounting position of the board terminal with respect to the cable terminal generated in the longitudinal direction of the flat cable is determined. The allowable shift amount can be increased. The slit width is an element that determines the maximum value of the allowable shift amount of the board terminal in the in-plane direction of the flat cable, which is the distance between the first reference line and the second reference line. The minimum slit width can be calculated by the width of the individual cable blocks divided by the slit, the distance between the base plate and the circuit board, and the distance that the cable terminals shift in the width direction of the flat cable. . When the slit width is increased, the entire folded portion becomes wider and does not fit between the base plate and the circuit board, or an operator hooks a tool or the like to cut the cable block during connection work. Therefore, the maximum value of the slit width is determined in consideration of these points.
If the width of the cable block is smaller than the distance between the base plate and the circuit board, the cable block can rotate smoothly while consuming the slit without being restricted by the base plate and the circuit board. There is no stress on the cable. The slits are ensured by a distance approximately equal to at least the distance between the base plate and the circuit board from the boundary of the folded portion to the lead portion side and the cable terminal side, respectively. By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to smoothly rotate the cable block and suppress the stress generated in the flat cable, compared to the case where the length of the slit is limited to the folded portion only.
The flat cable adopts a five-layer double-sided structure near the lead part to facilitate connection with the key side wiring at the lead part, and the conductor pattern is gathered on one side by through holes along the way In the position where is formed, a three-layer single-sided structure is adopted to improve flexibility. Further, at the boundary between the three-layer structure and the four-layer structure, stress is prevented from concentrating when the cover layer is formed in a substantially L shape and bent. In addition, two end portions in the longitudinal direction of each slit are formed in a curved shape so that no crack is generated at the end portion of the slit.
Increasing the number of cable blocks divided by the slit can improve the flexibility of the folded part, but if it is too large, depending on the distance from the edge of the slit to the conductor pattern that must be secured, the slit part The storage efficiency of the conductor pattern with respect to the width of the flat cable is reduced. In the present invention, it is desirable to determine the value obtained by dividing the width at a place other than the folded portion of the flat cable by the distance between the base plate and the circuit board as an integer. To convert to an integer, round down, round up, or round off.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a connection structure between a keyboard unit and a circuit board with a low degree of stress and a high degree of freedom. Furthermore, the present invention can provide a computer employing such a wiring structure.

FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating the state of the folded portion that occurs before and after the vertical movement of the cable terminal. FIG. 5A shows a state in which the
As shown in FIG. 5A, the
The
The folded
FIG. 5C shows a state in which the
FIG. 5D is a cross-sectional view of the folded
FIG. 6 is a view for explaining a method for determining the slit width, and is a view of the cable block as viewed from the same direction as FIG. 5 (D). 6A shows a natural state in which the
Since the cable blocks 119a and 119b rotate while consuming the
In such a state, the
Here, a method for obtaining the width of the
The value of s obtained as described above is necessary when the distance m between the
FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating a state when the cable terminal is rotationally moved. FIG. 7A shows a state when only the vertical movement is performed in order to connect the
During the rotational movement, the
Since the rotational movement has no restriction on the slit width necessary for absorbing the stress, the allowable shift amount of the
FIG. 8 is a diagram for explaining a method of determining the required slit length in accordance with the position of the
Since the rotation operation of the cable block caused by the displacement in the width direction of the
As the number of slits increases, the
In the present embodiment, for example, the gap between the
