例えばマンコンベアとしてのエスカレータは、建屋の下階と上階との間に亘ってトラスを据え付け、このトラスに多数のステップを無端状に連結してなるステップ列を組み込み、このステップ列を駆動装置で無端走行させてステップに乗り込んだ乗客を搬送するようになっている。

ところで、トラス1の深さを小さくすることができれば、それだけトラス1を建屋に据え付けるときにスペース的に有利となる。トラス1の深さを小さくしようとする場合、往路を走行するステップ11の走行軌跡と、復路を走行するステップ11の走行軌跡とが互いに接近して配置するように構成すれば、それだけトラス1の深さを小さくすることが可能となる。

この発明はこのような目的を達成するために、トラスと、このトラス内の長手方向の両端部間で無端走行するステップ列と、このステップ列の各ステップがトラス内の往路を走行するときにそのステップの前輪を支持してガイドする往路側の前輪レールおよび後輪を支持してガイドする往路側の後輪レールと、各ステップが反転して復路を走行するときにそのステップの前輪を支持してガイドする復路側の前輪レールおよび後輪を支持してガイドする復路側の後輪レールとを備えるマンコンベアにおいて、ステップ列の各ステップの後輪は、前輪に対してステップの幅方向に移動可能に設けられ、前記往路側の後輪レールと復路側の後輪レールは、上下方向に対して互いに接近し、かつトラスの幅方向に対して互いに位置をずらして設けられ、これら往路側の後輪レールの端部と復路側の後輪レールの端部とが反転レールで接続され、往路を走行するステップの後輪と復路を走行するステップの後輪とが上下方向で互いにオーバーラップし、往路を走行するステップの後輪が反転レールを介して復路側の後輪レールに移行するときに、そのステップの後輪が前輪に対してステップの幅方向に移動することを特徴としている。

以下、この発明の実施の形態について図1ないし図8を参照して説明する。なお、従来の構成と対応する部分には同一の符号を付してその説明を省略する。

図1ないし図3には第1の実施形態を示してある。図1にはトラス1の中間部分の内部構造を示してあり、このトラス1は中間部の深さが小さく構成され、このトラス1内の長手方向の上層部に設けられた往路側の前輪レール21aと、下層部に設けられた復路側の前輪レール21bは、上下方向において互いに対向するように配置されている。そして、往路側の後輪レール22aと復路側の後輪レール22bは、互いに接近し、かつ互いにトラス11の幅方向に対して位置をずらして配置されている。
