第2原図 :19μA
OHP用紙 :18μA

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic printer, a copying machine, a facsimile machine, and an ink jet printer that perform image formation on paper of different paper types.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, in this type of image forming apparatus, in addition to normal plain paper, thick plain paper, OHP paper, a second original drawing, or the like may be used. For example, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the transfer current of a transfer device that transfers an image (toner) onto a sheet is changed depending on the paper thickness. The image quality is improved by raising or lowering the fixing temperature of the fixing device or changing the image forming speed (substantially the same as the paper conveyance speed) (see, for example,
[0003]
In this case, conventionally, the paper type information such as the paper thickness is manually specified after the operator visually confirms it. However, for reasons such as being extremely complicated, in
[0004]
Due to the recent networking of the office environment, the use form in which one image forming apparatus (printer) is shared by a plurality of host computers (PCs) has become common, and the distance between the PC and the printer is often large. Below, the ability to automatically detect the paper type of a paper set in a paper feed cassette or the like of a printer is an important factor for obtaining a desired printed matter.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, according to these conventional examples, the paper type (or paper thickness) of the paper to be fed can be automatically detected by using a transmission type sensor or the like. In the process of issuing a paper feed command to the corresponding paper feed cassette based on the print instruction by the paper and feeding the paper from the paper feed cassette toward the photosensitive member or the like, the paper type (or paper thickness) is changed. I try to detect it. As a result, for example, when the fixing temperature is variably controlled according to the paper type, if the fixing temperature at that time is too high for the paper type of the fed paper, the paper is temporarily stopped and the paper is You will have to wait until the fixing temperature falls to the seed. In this case, the fixing temperature, which is increased by consuming corners, time, and electric power (energy), is lowered over time, which is very wasteful.
[0011]
Further, for example, in the case of a tandem-type full-color image forming apparatus (printer) in which a plurality of (generally, four) photoconductors are arranged in parallel on the intermediate transfer belt to enable full-color printing, the photoconductor for the first color Since the distance from the transfer position to the transfer position is long and it takes time for the formed image to reach the transfer position, the printing time is shortened by starting the image formation on the photosensitive member simultaneously with the paper feed command. (By the way, in the case of a monochrome printer, image formation is started after the paper reaches the registration roller). Therefore, in the case of such a tandem type full-color image forming apparatus, when the paper type of the paper fed and conveyed from the paper feed cassette is known, the image forming process has already started, and the detected paper type If the image forming speed and the image forming conditions are not optimal, the folded image and the formed image must be created again from the beginning, resulting in waste.
[0012]
Incidentally, according to
[0013]
An object of the present invention is to provide an automatic detection function of a paper type including at least a paper thickness used for variable setting of a fixing temperature, and the detection result can be used effectively and reliably. In addition, time and energy are not wasted, and the paper fed for the paper type detection operation is prevented from being damaged.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided an image forming apparatus that can be drawn out and stored in the main body of the image forming apparatus, and that separates and feeds the sheets one by one from the sheet storing section that stacks and holds the sheets. A separation paper feeding means; an image forming means for forming an image on the paper fed by the separation paper feeding means; and a paper type including at least a paper thickness of the paper fed by the separation paper feeding means. A paper type detection unit to detect, and at a timing prior to a paper feed command, the separation paper feeding unit feeds the leading end of one sheet by a predetermined amount from the paper storage unit, and the paper type detection unit In the image forming apparatus including a paper type detection paper feed timing control unit for detecting a paper type of the paper, the separation paper feed unit is provided in the paper storage unit and is provided in the groove portion where the stored paper is fed. And the paper type detection means Those digits.
[0015]
Accordingly, by feeding a predetermined amount of the leading end of one sheet from the sheet storage unit by the separation sheet feeding unit at a timing prior to the sheet feeding command, and detecting the sheet type of the sheet by the sheet type detecting unit, Since the paper type information can be acquired before receiving the paper feed command, it is possible to set the image forming process of the image forming unit appropriately and effectively using the paper type information before receiving the paper feed command. Moreover, waste of time and energy can be eliminated. In addition, the separation unit and the paper type detection unit are provided in the paper storage unit so that the paper can be pulled out and stored in the main body of the image forming apparatus, thereby feeding a predetermined amount of paper for detecting the paper type. Even if it is left as it is, the separation paper feeding means and the paper type detection means are also pulled out together with the drawing operation of the paper storage section. It is possible to reliably prevent the paper from being damaged due to the drawing operation. Further, since the sheet pull-back operation is not required, the control becomes simple and the sheet can be fed to the image forming unit as it is, and the processing speed can be increased.
[0016]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first aspect, the detected paper type information includes, in addition to the paper thickness, distinction between plain paper, OHP paper, and the second original drawing.
[0017]
Accordingly, as paper type information, in addition to the paper thickness common in this type of image forming apparatus, it is possible to handle distinction between plain paper, OHP paper, and the second original drawing. It can be used for conversion. In particular, regarding the paper thickness, since only one sheet is separately fed and detected by the paper type detection means, reliable information can be acquired.
[0018]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, the paper type detection unit detects the paper type of the paper in a non-contact manner using an optical measurement method.
[0019]
Therefore, only one sheet is separated and fed, and the paper type such as the paper thickness is detected, so that the paper type detecting means is reliably and easily detected by a general non-contact method using an optical measurement method. can do.
[0020]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the third aspect, the paper type detection unit detects the paper type by using a transmissive optical sensor that detects the transmittance of the paper.
[0021]
Therefore, only one sheet is separated and fed, and the paper type such as its thickness is detected, so that the paper type detecting means is reliably and easily detected by an optical measuring method, particularly a method using a transmission type optical sensor. can do.
[0022]
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, the paper type detection unit detects a paper type of the paper by converting a mechanical displacement amount into an electrical signal.
[0023]
Therefore, only one sheet is separated and fed to detect the paper type such as the thickness of the paper, and the paper type detecting means generally uses a mechanical displacement method that converts a mechanical displacement amount into an electrical signal. Can be reliably and easily detected by a simple method.
[0024]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, the paper type detection unit detects the paper type of the paper using a capacitance sensor that measures the capacitance of the paper.
[0025]
Therefore, only one sheet is separated and fed, and the paper type such as the paper thickness is detected, so that the paper type detecting means can be reliably and easily detected by a general non-contact method using a capacitance sensor. Can do.
[0026]
According to a seventh aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to sixth aspects, the paper storage unit includes a plurality of the paper storage units, and the paper type detection unit is provided for each paper storage unit.
[0027]
Accordingly, since the paper type detecting means is individually provided for each of the plurality of paper storage units, the paper type information of the paper held in each paper storage unit can be obtained without omission. Therefore, it is possible to control the image forming process appropriately according to the paper type information.
[0028]
According to an eighth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to seventh aspects, the paper type detection paper feed timing control means includes at least the timing of the image forming apparatus as a timing prior to the paper feed command. When the power is turned on, the paper type detection operation of the paper is performed.
[0029]
Therefore, at least when the power of the image forming apparatus is turned on, the paper type detection operation is performed so that even if the paper type is changed from that before the power is turned on, an appropriate response corresponding to the paper type can be made. It becomes possible.
[0030]
According to a ninth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eighth aspects, the paper type detection paper feed timing control means controls the paper storage unit as a timing prior to a paper feed command. When the paper is loaded, the paper type detection operation of the paper is performed.
[0031]
Therefore, since the paper type is changed when the paper is loaded into the paper storage unit, the paper type is changed by performing the paper type detection operation when the paper is loaded into the paper storage unit. Therefore, it is possible to cope with the problem properly, and it is possible to appropriately cope with the type of the paper loaded in the paper storage unit.
[0032]
According to a tenth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the ninth aspect, the paper type detection paper feed timing control means is provided each time the pulled out paper storage portion is stored in the image forming apparatus main body. Causes the paper type detection operation of the paper to be performed.
[0033]
Therefore, the drawer / storage operation of the paper storage unit may be performed at the time of jam processing or the like, but when a new paper is loaded, the paper storage unit must be pulled out / storage to load a new paper. It is possible to reliably cope with the accompanying paper type change, and it is possible to appropriately cope with the paper type of the paper loaded in the paper storage unit.
[0034]
According to an eleventh aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eighth aspects, the paper type detection paper feed timing control means outputs a preceding paper feed command as a timing preceding the paper feed command. Based on this, after the paper is fed from the paper storage unit, the paper type detection operation of the paper is performed on the paper storage unit until the next paper feed command is issued.
[0035]
Accordingly, by detecting the paper type for the next paper every time the paper is fed for image formation, for example, when different types of paper are mixedly loaded in the paper storage unit. In addition, it is possible to acquire the paper type for each sheet in advance, and it is possible to appropriately cope with the paper type of each loaded paper.
[0036]
According to a twelfth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eleventh aspects, the image forming unit forms an image by an electrophotographic method, and when a paper feed command is received, A fixing temperature setting means for variably setting a fixing temperature according to the paper type information acquired by the detection of the paper type detecting means at a timing prior to a paper feed command; and the image forming means after the variable setting of the fixing temperature. And a paper feed / transport control means for feeding and transporting the
[0037]
Accordingly, in the case of an electrophotographic image forming unit, a fixing device is provided, but after the fixing temperature is variably set according to the paper type information acquired in advance at the timing prior to the paper feeding command, the paper is actually fed and conveyed. By performing this, there is no need to reset the fixing temperature, and it is possible to eliminate waste of time and energy associated with the resetting of the fixing temperature.
[0038]
According to a thirteenth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eleventh aspects, when a paper feed command is received, it is acquired by detection of the paper type detection means at a timing prior to the paper feed command. A process speed setting means for variably setting the process speed of the image forming means in accordance with the paper type information, and a paper feed control means for feeding the paper to the image forming means after the variable setting of the process speed. And comprising.
[0039]
Therefore, the process speed of the image forming unit varies depending on the paper type, but after the process speed is variably set according to the paper type information acquired in advance at the timing prior to the paper feed command, the paper supply is actually performed. By carrying the paper, there is no re-formation of the image, and time and energy associated with the re-formation of the image can be eliminated.
[0040]
According to a fourteenth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eleventh aspects, when a paper feed command is received, it is acquired by detection of the paper type detection means at a timing prior to the paper feed command. Image forming condition setting means for variably setting the image forming conditions of the image forming means in accordance with the paper type information, and paper feeding for feeding the paper toward the image forming means after variably setting the image forming conditions Transport control means.
[0041]
Accordingly, the image forming conditions of the image forming unit, for example, the transfer current and the like have different appropriate conditions depending on the paper type, but the image forming conditions are variably set according to the paper type information acquired in advance at the timing prior to the paper feed command. Then, by actually feeding and conveying the paper, there is no re-formation of the image, and time and energy associated with the re-formation of the image can be eliminated.

【The invention's effect】
According to the first aspect of the present invention, at the timing prior to the paper feed command, the leading edge of one sheet is fed by a predetermined amount from the paper storage unit by the separation paper feed unit, and the paper type detection unit feeds the paper. Since the paper type is detected and the paper type information is acquired before receiving the paper feed command, the paper type information is effectively and reliably used for the image forming process of the image forming unit before receiving the paper feed command. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate waste of time and energy in the image forming process. In addition, the paper storage unit is provided with a separation paper supply unit and a paper type detection unit so that the paper can be pulled out and stored in the image forming apparatus main body, thereby feeding a predetermined amount of paper for detecting the paper type. Even if it is left as it is, the separation paper feeding means and the paper type detection means are also pulled out together with the drawer operation of the paper storage section, so that the paper storage section of the paper storage section can be controlled without restricting the drawer operation of the paper storage section. It is possible to reliably prevent the paper from being damaged due to the drawing operation. Further, since the sheet pull-back operation is not required, the control becomes simple and the sheet can be fed to the image forming unit as it is, and the processing speed can be increased.
[0100]
According to the second aspect of the invention, as paper type information, it is possible to handle the distinction between plain paper, OHP paper, and the second original drawing in addition to the paper thickness generally used in this type of image forming apparatus. Such paper type information can be used to improve image quality. In particular, regarding the paper thickness, since only one sheet is separately fed and detected by the paper type detection means, reliable information can be acquired.
[0101]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, only one sheet is separated and fed to detect the paper type such as the paper thickness. Can be reliably and easily detected by a general non-contact method using an optical measurement method.
[0102]
According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the third aspect, only one sheet is separated and fed, and the paper type such as the paper thickness is detected. Can be reliably and easily detected by an automatic measurement method, particularly a method using a transmission optical sensor.
[0103]
According to the fifth aspect of the invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, only one sheet is separated and fed to detect the paper type such as the paper thickness. Can be reliably and easily detected by a general method using a mechanical displacement method for converting a mechanical displacement amount into an electrical signal.
[0104]
According to the sixth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, only one sheet is separated and fed and the paper type such as the paper thickness is detected. Can be reliably and easily detected by a general non-contact method using a capacitive sensor.
[0105]
According to the seventh aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to sixth aspects, since the plurality of paper storage units are individually provided with the paper type detection unit for each paper storage unit, The paper type information of the paper held in the paper storage unit can be acquired without omission, and appropriate image forming process control according to the paper type information can be performed.
[0106]
According to an eighth aspect of the invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to seventh aspects, at least when the power of the image forming apparatus is turned on, the paper type detection operation of the paper is performed. Even if the paper type is changed from before the power is turned on, it is possible to appropriately cope with the paper type.
[0107]
According to the ninth aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to eighth aspects, the paper type is changed when the paper is loaded into the paper storage unit. When paper is loaded, the paper type detection operation is performed so that the paper type change can be dealt with reliably, and an appropriate response according to the paper type of the paper loaded in the paper storage unit.
