Description
以下、本発明の第1の実施例を図1乃至図5を参照して説明する。各図において対応する部分には同一符号を付している。
図6及び図7は、上述した実施例の効果の理解を助けるための比較例であり、一方向のバイアス電圧にのみ発光する通常の有機EL発光素子(ダイオード特性)を使用して色画素を直列接続された複数(4つ)のEL発光素子によって構成した例を示している。一方向性素子を使用する場合には各EL発光素子が順方向にバイアスされるように直列接続しなければならない。
次に、実施例の有機EL表示装置の製造方法について図8の工程図を参照して説明する。図8において、図2と対応する部分には同一符号を付している。
図9及び図10は、色画素を3つ(奇数個)のEL発光素子で構成した他の実施例を示している。図9及び図10において、図1及び図5と対応する部分にはそれぞれ同一符号を付している。
図11は、上述した有機EL表示装置を画像情報の表示部として用いた電子機器の例を示している。
Claims (5)
- 基板上に複数の画素が配列されてなる電気光学装置であって、
各画素は前記基板上に配置されて直列接続された複数のEL発光素子を含み、
各EL発光素子は前記基板の厚さ方向において積層された第1の電極、発光層及び第2の電極を含み、順方向及び逆方向のいずれの印加電圧でも発光する特性を備え、
前記複数のEL発光素子は隣接するもの同士が互いの第1の電極同士又は第2の電極同士で接続されて前記直列接続を構成する、電気光学装置。 - 配列された前記複数の画素の行又は列方向に沿って配置された複数の共通電極配線を有し、
前記共通電極配線が前記画素を構成する直列接続された複数のEL発光素子の列端部のEL発光素子の第1の電極又は第2の電極を兼ねる、請求項1に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記発光層は、バッファ層、発光体膜及びバッファ層の積層膜によって構成される、請求項1又は2に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記バッファ層は、ポリエチレンジオキシチオフェン(PEDOT)を含む層である、請求項3に記載の電気光学装置。
- 請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載された電気光学装置を表示器として備えることを特徴とする電子機器。
