BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a facsimile, a copying machine, and a printer, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus including a contact-type transfer unit that transfers a visible image on an image carrier onto a recording member by a contact method. It is.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a transfer member used in an image forming apparatus has a contact member such as a transfer roller disposed so as to be in contact with an image carrier such as a photosensitive drum, and between the image carrier and the contact member. A contact type that transfers a visible image on an image carrier to a recording member such as transfer paper sandwiched between them is widely known. In this type of contact-type transfer means, when the electrical resistance of the contact member changes with an environmental change such as a temperature change or humidity change, the transfer current supplied from the contact member to the recording member changes. . The transfer property becomes unstable due to the change in the transfer current.
[0003]
Therefore, constant current control is generally performed on the transfer current supplied to the contact member of the contact transfer unit. According to this constant current control, even if the electrical resistance of the contact member changes with environmental changes, a constant transfer current can be supplied to the recording member by changing the transfer voltage. As a result, stable transferability can be maintained.
[0004]
On the other hand, conventionally, as a charging unit used in an image forming apparatus, a contact type including a contact charging member such as a charging roller and a power source for supplying a charging voltage to the contact charging member is widely known. In such contact-type charging means, the image carrier is charged with a charging voltage lower than that of non-contact-type charging means using corona discharge or the like, so that power consumption can be reduced, and the power supply can be simplified and apparatus Can be reduced in size. However, if the electrical resistance of the contact charging member fluctuates with environmental changes, the charging potential of the image carrier is changed. In addition, there is a problem that the image density is changed by the change of the charging potential.
[0005]
Therefore, the applicant previously disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 10-97108 the density of the reference image formed on the image carrier charged by the contact-type transfer means using the transfer current under constant current control, and the contact An image forming apparatus that corrects the value of the charging voltage supplied to the contact-type charging unit according to the result of comparison with the density of the reference image formed on the image carrier charged by the type charging unit has been proposed. In such an image forming apparatus, when the image carrier is charged by the contact-type charging means, the charged potential of the image carrier varies with environmental fluctuations, so the density of the reference image (developer per unit area) The amount of adhesion also varies. For example, when the environment becomes relatively low temperature and low humidity in winter, the electrical resistance of the contact charging member is higher than that in an environment of normal temperature and humidity, so that it is difficult for a charging current to flow from the contact charging member to the image carrier. Become. In such a case, the charged potential of the image carrier is lower than that in an environment of normal temperature and humidity, and the density of the reference image is higher than that in the case of normal temperature and humidity (in the case of reversal development), or Lower (in the case of forward development). On the other hand, when the image carrier is charged by the contact-type transfer unit, the image carrier can be charged to a predetermined value regardless of environmental fluctuations, so that the density of the reference image becomes a predetermined value. . Therefore, by correcting the value of the charging voltage based on the comparison result of the densities of both reference images, the image carrier can be set to a predetermined value even if the electrical resistance of the contact charging member is changed due to environmental changes. Can be charged.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Conventionally, when the above-described transfer current is controlled at a constant current, there has been a case where a so-called printing image in which an image is lost without being partially transferred when the environment is remarkably reduced in temperature and humidity in winter or the like may occur. The generation of the print may occur without exception even in the image forming apparatus disclosed in JP-A-10-97108 in which the transfer current is controlled at a constant current.
[0007]
Therefore, the present inventor conducted intensive research on the cause of such prints, and found the following. That is, theoretically, if the value of the transfer current flowing from the constant current power source to the contact member of the contact type transfer means is constant, the current value from the contact member to the recording member (hereinafter referred to as transfer current). (Referred to as effective value) should be constant. However, it has been found that the effective value of the transfer current may not be constant even when the current value from the constant current power source is constant. Specifically, the higher the temperature and humidity of the environment, the more easily the transfer current supplied to the contact member leaks to the peripheral members of the contact member, and the effective value of the transfer current decreases due to this leak. I understood. On the other hand, if the environment is reduced in temperature and humidity, the leakage hardly occurs and the effective value of the transfer current increases. If increased in this way, a transfer current for injecting a charge having the opposite polarity to the developer constituting the image transferred to the recording member flows, which may cause the developer to be reversely charged. When such reverse charging occurs, a part of the image once transferred from the image carrier to the recording member is reversely transferred again to the image carrier, and the print is produced by this reverse transfer.
[0008]
As a method for reducing the occurrence of such prints, even if the effective value of the transfer current is increased by reducing the temperature and humidity of the environment, the effective value remains at a value that does not cause the reverse charging. It is conceivable to set the current control value of the constant current power supply smaller than the conventional one. However, if the current control value is set to be small in this way, an effective current can be supplied to the recording member by reducing the effective value of the transfer current when the environment becomes hot and humid in summer or the like. This is not possible and may cause a transfer failure.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the above background, and an object of the present invention is to form an image that can reduce printing and transfer defects caused by environmental fluctuations in an image forming apparatus including a contact-type transfer unit. Is to provide a device.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to claim 1 is an image carrier that carries an image, a charging unit that charges the image carrier, and an image carrier that is charged by the charging unit. Visual imageToner image that isAnd a visible image forming means for forming the visible image on the image carrier.WriteContact-type transfer means for transferring onto a recording member, constant-current supply means for supplying a constant-current-controlled transfer current to the contact-type transfer means, and control for controlling the visible image forming means and the contact-type transfer means Means,An adhesion amount detection means for detecting an amount of toner adhesion to a reference image which is a predetermined toner image formed on the image carrier;WithThe visible image forming means develops the electrostatic latent image using an electrostatic latent image forming means for forming an electrostatic latent image on the charged latent image carrier and a developer containing a carrier and a toner. A developing unit; a toner replenishing unit that replenishes toner to the developing unit; and a toner concentration sensor that detects a toner concentration of the developer in the developing unit; and the control unit includes: And a control for adjusting the toner density of the developer by controlling the replenishment operation of the toner replenishing means based on the comparison result between the output value of the toner and the output target value of the toner density sensor, and forming on the image carrier And a control for correcting the output target value based on the toner adhesion amount with respect to the reference image for correcting the output target value.Image forming apparatusIn placeThe contact-type transfer means at a fixed timingThe image carrier is charged to the same polarity as the charging polarity by the charging means usingThe image carrierA transfer current correction reference image is formed on the transfer current correction toner image, and the toner adhesion amount with respect to the transfer current correction reference image is detected by the adhesion amount detection means.Based on the result, correction control is performed to correct the control value of the transfer current. In addition, the electrostatic potential of the reference image for correcting the transfer current is set so that the development potential of the electrostatic latent image of the reference image for correcting the transfer current is smaller than the electrostatic latent image of the reference image for correcting the output target value. To implement the control to form the latent image,This control means is constituted.
[0013]
Claims2The invention of claim1'sIn the image forming apparatus, the contact member that can contact the image carrier is one that contains an ion conductive material.
[0015]
Claim 1Or 2In the image forming apparatus, correction control for correcting the control value of the transfer current output from the constant current supply unit is performed. Specifically, the image carrier is charged at a predetermined timing by the contact-type transfer means supplied with the transfer current. Then, a reference image for correcting the transfer current is formed on the charged latent image carrier, and the amount of toner attached to the reference image is detected by the attached amount detecting means. The control value is corrected based on the result. In such a configuration, by performing the correction control as follows, the effective value of the transfer current can be kept constant even when the environment fluctuates. In other words, when the effective value of the current for transfer increases due to the low temperature and low humidity of the environment, compared with the normal temperature and humidity,The toner adhesion amount detected by the adhesion amount detection means isImage carrier with higher potential than normal temperature and humidityBeIndicateBecome value. So, like thisNabaIn this case, the control value may be corrected to be smaller than that at normal temperature and humidity. In addition, when the effective value of the current for transfer is lower than that at normal temperature and humidity due to high temperature and high humidity in the environment,The toner adhesion amount detected by the adhesion amount detection means isThe potential state of the image carrier is lower than that at normal temperature and humidity.BeIndicateBecome value. So, like thisNabaIn this case, the control value may be corrected to be larger than that at normal temperature and humidity.
[0016]
In addition,For the reference imagetonerAmount of adhesionIs quietThere is a correlation with the potential of the electrostatic latent image, and this potential has a correlation with the potential of the image carrier charged prior to the formation of the electrostatic latent image. In such a relationship, with respect to the reference imagetonerA correlation is established between the amount of adhesion and the potential of the image carrier charged by the contact-type charging means, and when the potential varies with environmental changes, tonerThe amount of adhesion varies. Therefore, for the reference imagetonerThe amount of adhesion isLatent image carrierWill function as potential information.
[0017]
MaTheClaim1 or 2In the image forming apparatus ofFor output target value correctionThan the electrostatic latent image of the reference image to be formedTransfer current correctionBy reducing the development potential of the electrostatic latent image of the reference image formed fortonerConcentration andtonerThe destabilization of the effective value of the transfer current due to the fluctuation of the charge amount is reduced. Specifically, as in this image forming apparatus, the carrier and tonerー andIn the case of using a developer containingtonerIs consumed, the developertonerThe concentration decreases. in this waytonerWhen the density decreases, the developer decreases the developing ability.tonerThe density of the image is lowered. So, the developertonerDecrease in concentrationToner density sensor, And the developertonerReplenish appropriatelytonerWe are trying to restore the concentration. In such an image forming apparatus, generally, tonerConcentration variationToner for reference image for output target value correctionIn order to respond sensitively to fluctuations in adhesion amount, tonerStandard adhesion amount oftonerArea where the adhesion amount gradient with respect to concentration fluctuations is as large as possible (hereinafter referred to asConcentration-amount of adhesionIt is set to the maximum gradient area. On image carriertonerAgainst the statuetonerThe amount of adhesion is the aboveConcentration-amount of adhesionIn the maximum gradient area, tonerIt varies greatly as the concentration changes.Concentration-amount of adhesionWhen it is outside the maximum gradient region, tonerThis is because it becomes difficult to respond to changes in concentration. However,Transfer current correctionThe standard adhesion amount related to the reference image formed forConcentration-amount of adhesionIf it is set to the maximum gradient area, the actualtonerAdhesion amount of developertonerIt will fluctuate greatly as the concentration fluctuates. Due to this variation, it becomes difficult to properly correct the control value of the transfer current, and the effective value of the transfer current may become unstable. For this reason,Transfer current correctionReference image to be formedAgainststandardtonerAbout the amount of adhesionConcentration-amount of adhesionIt is desirable to set more or less than this so as to deviate from the gradient maximum region. With this setting, tonerAccompanying changes in concentrationtonerAlong with the environmental change rather than the rate of changetonerIncreasing the rate of change of the adhesion amount, tonerInfluence on adhesion amounttonerThis is because the influence of concentration can be reduced. However, according to our study, tonerAdhesion amount aboveConcentration-amount of adhesionBeyond the gradient maximum region,Toner in the toner adhesion amountAgainst fluctuation of charge amounttonerAmount of adhesionofIt was found that the gradient suddenly increased. SpecialAnd claims2In the image forming apparatus, the contact member of the contact type transfer unit contains an ionic conductive material, so that the manufacturing cost of the contact type transfer unit is lower than when the carbon type conductive material is used. It will be cheaper. A member containing an ionic conductive material as an electrical resistance adjusting material has a demerit that the rate of change in electrical resistance due to environmental changes is larger than a member containing a carbon conductive material, but is manufactured because quality control is easy. This is because the cost is low.

[0065]
When the reference pattern is formed for adjusting the toner density of the developer (for correcting VTref), the change in the toner density of the developer is made to respond sensitively to the change in the toner adhesion amount M / A of the reference pattern. Therefore, it is desirable to set the standard adhesion amount of toner with respect to this reference pattern to a region (referred to as a gradient maximum region) where the adhesion amount gradient with respect to the change in toner density is as large as possible.
[0066]
On the other hand, when the reference pattern is formed for the correction control, the standard adhesion of toner to the reference pattern is reduced in order to reduce the destabilization of the effective value of the transfer current due to the change in the toner density of the developer. It is desirable to set the amount outside the gradient maximum region. More preferably, the standard adhesion amount may be set so as to be less than the maximum gradient region in order to reduce instability of the effective value of the transfer current due to a change in the toner charge amount of the developer. Specifically, each electrostatic latent image is charged so that the development potential in the electrostatic latent image of the reference pattern for correction control is smaller than the electrostatic latent image of the reference pattern for toner density adjustment. Good. For example, in the copying machine of the present embodiment, the former under the conditions of drum background potential = −700 [V], latent image potential −100 [V], development bias = −400 [V], development potential = + 300 [V]. Each of the parameters is set so that the developing potential of the latter electrostatic latent image becomes smaller than +300 [V].
[0067]
Note that when the development potential of the latter electrostatic latent image is reduced to the minus side, it is not always necessary to maintain the polarity positive, and the toner may be attached in a so-called scumming manner. According to the experiments by the present inventors, for the latter electrostatic latent image, the latent image potential = −700 [V], the developing bias = −600 [V], and the developing potential = −100 [V]. The best results could be obtained.
[0068]
【The invention's effect】
Claim 1Or 2According to the invention, the effective value of the transfer current can be kept constant even when the environment fluctuates. Therefore, development that forms a visible image between the contact-type transfer unit and the image carrier is possible. There is an excellent effect that the amount of charge injection into the substance can be stabilized to reduce printing and transfer defects caused by environmental fluctuations.
[0070]
Also tonerConcentration andtonerSince the destabilization of the effective value of the transfer current due to the fluctuation of the charge amount can be reduced, there is an excellent effect that the printing and the transfer defect due to the fluctuation can be reduced. Also, the reference image is excessivetonerDeterioration of image carrier cleaning performance due to adhesion oftonerThere is an excellent effect that it is possible to avoid scattering and contamination in the apparatus accompanying this.
[0071]
SpecialAnd claims2According to this invention, there is an excellent effect that the manufacturing cost of the contact-type transfer unit can be reduced as compared with the case where a contact member containing a carbon-based conductive material is used as the contact-type transfer unit.
