BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a power save circuit of a light receiving circuit suitable for use in the field of infrared communication.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, it is known that two devices communicate with each other using light such as infrared rays. Data is transmitted in digital form, and infrared light is emitted or not emitted from the transmission side device according to data “1” and “0”. The receiving device generates a reception signal depending on the presence or absence of infrared rays, forms digital data based on the reception signal, and transmits information.
[0003]
FIG. 2 shows a light receiving circuit that is provided in a receiving apparatus and converts received infrared light into a binary signal. In FIG. 2, for example, an output current is generated when infrared light is irradiated to a light receiving element PD such as a photodiode, and no output current is generated unless infrared light is irradiated. The output current of the light receiving element PD is converted into a voltage signal by the current-
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in the circuit of FIG. 2, in order to perform data transmission correctly, the frequency characteristic is set so that it can respond from the low frequency of data to the highest frequency. The current-
[0005]
However, data transmission is not always performed, and when data transmission is interrupted, infrared light is not applied to the light receiving element PD, and no output signal is generated. Even in such a no-signal state, in the circuit of FIG. 2, the bias current is set to be large so that it can respond to a high-frequency signal. Therefore, the current consumption of the light receiving circuit of FIG. 2 is large. In particular, such infrared communication is also carried out in portable information terminals. If a conventional light receiving circuit is used in a portable information terminal that has a limited use time because it is battery-powered, useless current consumption increases and the use is increased. The time was getting shorter.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, in a power saving circuit used in a light receiving circuit capable of receiving a plurality of types of optical data signals, when the light receiving circuit enters a standby state, the bias current of the light receiving circuit is detected to such an extent that the presence or absence of light can be detected. Is set to a minimum, and the bias current is changed according to the type of the optical data signal at the time of normal operation.
[0007]
In the normal operation, the bias current is set or changed so that the response of the light receiving circuit responds to the highest frequency of the transmitted data.
[0008]
A current-voltage conversion circuit that converts at least an optical reception signal into a current voltage; a comparator that converts an output signal of the current-voltage conversion circuit into a binary signal; and a bias that supplies a bias current to the current-voltage conversion circuit and the comparator in the power saving circuit for use in light-receiving circuit having a supply circuit, based on an output of the comparator, to determine the type of the received data, and a determination circuit for changing the bias current of the bias supply circuit in accordance with the received data It is characterized by providing.
[0009]
Furthermore, a level detection circuit for detecting the output signal of the comparator and a bias control circuit for controlling the bias supply circuit based on the output signal of the level detection circuit are provided, and the standby bias control circuit generates a power save signal. It is characterized by doing.
[0010]
Further, the bias current is set so that the response of the current-voltage conversion circuit and the comparator can respond to a low frequency component of the optical reception signal when a power save signal is generated. Also, the bias current is set and changed so that the response of the current-voltage conversion circuit and the comparator can respond to the maximum frequency of the transmitted data during normal operation.
[0011]
The bias control circuit includes a window comparator.
[0012]
According to the present invention, during the normal operation of the light receiving circuit, the bias current of the light receiving circuit is changed according to the transmitted data. At the same time, when the light receiving circuit enters a standby state, the bias current is set to a minimum so that the presence or absence of light can be detected, thereby reducing current consumption.

【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, the bias current amount of the light receiving circuit is changed so that the light receiving circuit can respond to the maximum frequency of the input data according to the result of determining the type of transmission method of the transmitted optical signal during normal operation. The light receiving circuit can be made to respond to the optical signal with the minimum necessary current consumption.

In the standby state, the bias current is lowered so that the frequency characteristics of the current-voltage conversion circuit and the comparator can respond to the low-frequency component of the transmission data, so that the current consumption can be reduced. In addition, when data transmission is performed, a sufficient bias current is supplied to the current-voltage conversion circuit and the comparator, so that the data transmitted by the light receiving circuit can be sufficiently followed.
