BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an exhaust device in which a catalyst is supported in a muffler.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In JP-A-6-10658, a muffler is connected to an exhaust pipe extending from an engine, and a diffuser pipe is connected into the muffler so that one end thereof is connected to the exhaust pipe and expands toward the exhaust gas outlet direction. In addition, an exhaust device is shown in which a catalyst device is interposed at a connection portion between an exhaust pipe and a diffuser pipe.
[0003]
Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 4-27108 shows an exhaust system in which a cylindrical member containing a catalyst is connected in series to a rear end portion of a diffuser pipe disposed in a muffler.
[0004]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 54-118912 discloses an exhaust system in which a cylindrical member formed of a cloth-like catalyst is connected in series in the muffler on the upstream side of an inserted exhaust pipe.
[0005]
Further, in Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 2-87922, the rear end portion of the diffuser pipe connected to the rear end portion of the exhaust pipe extending from the engine protrudes into the muffler, and the inside of the muffler is connected to each other by a communication pipe. An exhaust device is shown which is partitioned into chambers and has a catalyst supported on the inner peripheral surfaces of the exhaust pipe, the diffuser pipe and the muffler outer plate, and the entire surface of the communication pipe, the tail pipe and the partition wall.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
When separate catalyst devices are arranged in series with the diffuser pipe as in JP-A-6-10658, JP-A-4-27108 and JP-A-54-118912, the total size of these muffler insertion members becomes long. Therefore, the muffler is likely to be long, and since such a catalyst device is usually configured in a honeycomb shape, the weight also increases, making it difficult to make the entire exhaust device compact.
[0007]
In addition, in the muffler for small vehicles such as scooters, since the length of the muffler tends to be limited, it is not easy and difficult to install the catalyst device so as to secure the surface area necessary to achieve the predetermined purification level. Design is required.
[0008]
Furthermore, although the purification efficiency is improved by placing the catalyst device in series with the exhaust system of the exhaust pipe or the diffuser pipe, the effect on exhaust pulsation is likely to occur, so it is difficult to prevent a decrease in engine output. Design is required.
[0009]
In addition, when the catalyst device is configured in a honeycomb shape, the weight increases, so that the attachment portion of the diffuser pipe also becomes large. In particular, it becomes difficult to support the catalyst device in a cantilevered manner, and against exhaust pulsation. Since the effect is likely to occur, a difficult design that does not cause a decrease in engine output is required.
[0010]
In addition, although a porous catalyst cylinder is used in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 54-118912, in this example, the exhaust gas after expansion is collected in the catalyst cylinder for purification, and the purification efficiency is reduced. As a result, the catalyst cylinder becomes larger and the cost increases.
[0011]
On the other hand, if a catalyst is directly supported on the inner peripheral surface of the exhaust pipe or diffuser pipe without providing a separate catalyst device as in Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 2-87922, the length of the muffler and the exhaust pulsation will be affected. And exhaust gas can be purified.
[0012]
However, in this example, the exhaust gas emitted from the diffuser pipe gradually lowers the exhaust temperature and comes into contact with the catalyst carried on the downstream communication pipe or the like, so that the purification efficiency decreases as it goes downstream. As a result, in order to achieve a predetermined purification level, the catalyst must be supported over a wide range, which increases the cost.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, an exhaust system with a catalyst according to the present invention includes an exhaust pipe extending from an engine, a muffler connected to the exhaust pipe, and disposed in the muffler and having one end connected to the exhaust pipe. In the exhaust apparatus with a catalyst provided with the exhaust pipe insertion portion and the catalyst carried in the muffler, the exhaust pipe insertion portion is a diffuser pipe that expands in a divergent shape in the exhaust gas outflow direction. the catalyst tube carrying a catalyst on the front surface to the inner insert substantially concentrically, only through the stay fixed to the exhaust upstream end of the catalyst tube, the exhaust upstream end of the flared portion of the diffuser pipe While supporting the cantilever at the small-diameter part that is the part,
The stay includes a catalyst cylinder fixing portion fixed to the periphery of the exhaust upstream side end portion of the catalyst cylinder, and a contact portion that forms a taper shape and contacts the inner surface of the small diameter portion side portion of the diffuser pipe. Features.
[0014]
In this case, the exhaust outlet side end portion of the catalyst cylinder can be protruded in the exhaust gas outlet direction longer than the exhaust outlet side end portion of the diffuser pipe.
[0015]
Further, it is possible to form a flow passage of exhaust gas between the catalytic tube and diffuser pipes.
[0016]
In addition, the catalyst can be supported on both inner and outer peripheral surfaces of at least a part of the diffuser pipe.
[0018]
In this case, the range bears a pre-Symbol catalyst can be to include an exhaust inlet side end portions near portion and the exhaust outlet side end portion vicinity of the diffuser pipe.
[0019]
【The invention's effect】
Since the porous catalyst cylinder is concentrically inserted and arranged inside the diffuser pipe arranged in the muffler, it has less influence on the length of the muffler than the conventional one in which separate catalyst devices are arranged in series. Since it has a simple cylindrical shape, it is lightweight and easy to support, so that the exhaust system as a whole can be made compact.
[0020]
At this time, the catalyst cylinder purifies the exhaust gas before expansion in the diffuser pipe, so that the purification efficiency is high and it can be made relatively long as much as the length of the diffuser pipe, so it is necessary to achieve a predetermined purification level. A large surface area can be easily secured.
[0021]
In addition, since the diffuser pipe has a divergent shape, the exhaust gas flowing through the interior gradually lowers the internal pressure toward the exhaust outlet side end of the diffuser pipe. It becomes easy to flow out to the outside, and this also improves the purification efficiency.
[0022]
For this reason, even when the length tends to be limited, such as a muffler for a small vehicle such as a scooter, a catalyst having a sufficient surface area can be easily disposed, and the design for it can be simplified.
[0023]
Furthermore, if the exhaust gas outlet side end of the catalyst cylinder protrudes in the exhaust gas outlet direction longer than the exhaust outlet side end of the diffuser pipe, this protrusion is utilized by utilizing the expansion flow of the exhaust gas exiting the diffuser pipe. Since the exhaust gas in the catalyst cylinder easily flows out from the part to the outside, the purification efficiency is further increased.
[0024]
Furthermore, if an exhaust gas flow path is ensured between the catalyst cylinder and the diffuser pipe, the influence on exhaust pulsation is less likely to occur, and the design for preventing the engine output from decreasing is facilitated. .
[0025]
Moreover, when the catalyst is supported on both inner and outer peripheral surfaces of at least a part of the diffuser pipe, the exhaust gas that passes through the diffuser pipe first contacts the catalyst on the inner peripheral surface side and chemically reacts. The catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side is also heated by the reaction heat.
[0026]
Therefore, when the exhaust gas expanded from the diffuser pipe comes into contact with the catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side, the chemical reaction is promoted by the catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side heated by the reaction heat generated by the catalyst on the inner peripheral surface side. The exhaust gas after exiting the pipe has an increased purification efficiency, although the exhaust temperature gradually decreases.
[0027]
In addition, when the catalyst is supported on both inner and outer peripheral surfaces of at least a part of the exhaust pipe insertion portion that is disposed in the muffler and has one end communicating with the exhaust pipe outside the muffler, the inside of the exhaust pipe is relatively high temperature as described above. In order to increase the temperature of the catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side using the heat of reaction caused by the contact between the exhaust gas passing through the insertion portion and the catalyst on the inner peripheral surface side, the exhaust gas that flows out of the exhaust pipe insertion portion and expands in the exhaust pipe It can be efficiently purified on the outer peripheral surface side of the insertion portion.
[0028]
Therefore, the catalyst can be supported in a relatively narrow range, and the cost can be reduced accordingly.
[0029]
Furthermore, in this case, if the range for supporting the catalyst includes an exhaust inflow side end vicinity portion and an exhaust outflow side end vicinity portion in the exhaust pipe insertion portion, first, in the exhaust inflow side end vicinity portion The exhaust gas having the highest temperature in the exhaust pipe insertion portion comes into contact with the catalyst on the inner peripheral surface side and is efficiently purified, and this portion is strongly heated.
[0030]
Next, in the vicinity of the exhaust outflow side end portion, the exhaust gas kept relatively high by the reaction heat of the exhaust inflow side end portion and the catalyst on the inner peripheral surface side is contacted with the catalyst and efficiently purified, This part is also heated by reaction heat.
[0031]
For this reason, the exhaust gas that has expanded from the exhaust inflow side end portion at a relatively high temperature is first provided on the outer peripheral surface in the vicinity of the exhaust outflow side end portion and heated from the inside on the outer peripheral surface side of the exhaust pipe insertion portion. The catalyst is efficiently purified by contacting with the catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side, and is heated again by the reaction heat here, and contacts the catalyst on the outer peripheral surface side in the vicinity of the exhaust inflow side end portion.
[0032]
At this time, since the outer peripheral surface side catalyst of this portion is heated to a considerably high temperature from the inside as described above, the exhaust gas maintaining a relatively high temperature is also efficiently purified here.
[0033]
Therefore, the exhaust gas after exiting the exhaust pipe insertion portion can be kept at a high temperature for a relatively long time, and can be efficiently purified over a relatively wide range of the outer peripheral surface of the exhaust pipe insertion portion.
