上述のプログラマブルコントローラでは、動作状態を切り替えるための切替スイッチの操作部11,12を器体1の前面に配置しているが、器体1の前面は制御盤の前面パネルPに設けた取付孔から露出しているので、防水性が低下するという問題があり、また一般のオペレータが容易に操作できるから動作状態が不用意に切り替えられてしまうという問題もあった。

そこで、図7(a)(b)に示すように、前面パネルPの裏側に位置する器体1の上下左右の側面に、動作状態を切り替えるための切替スイッチのスライド操作部14を配置したものもあるが、他の制御機器が前面パネルPにプログラマブルコントローラの器体1に近接させて取り付けられた場合、他の制御機器が邪魔になってスライド操作部14の切替状態が見えなくなったり、指が入らずに操作できなくなるという問題があった。

上記目的を達成するために、請求項1の発明では、予め設定されたプログラムを実行する演算部を収納し、取付パネルに設けた取付孔から前面を露出させた状態で、前記取付パネルに埋め込んで取り付けられる器体を備え、前記演算部の動作状態を切り替える切替スイッチのスライド操作部を、前記器体の後面と一側面とに跨るようにして、前記後面と前記一側面とに隣接する他の側面に近接した部位に、前記後面と前記一側面との境界線に沿ってスライド自在に配置したことを特徴とする。
