【従来の技術】

ところでこのような従来のケースは、コンパクトディスクを保護するためにケース本体サイズも重量も必要以上に大きくなり、郵送に際し定形郵便扱いにならず郵便料が高くなるという問題点があった。すなわち我が国の郵便法には定形郵便制度があり、郵便物が定形条件内にあれば郵送代が安くなる。

この定形条件の寸法は短辺が９ｃｍから１２ｃｍ，長辺が１４ｃｍから２３．５ｃｍで厚みが１ｃｍ以内、重量が５０ｇ以内である。ところがＣＤ−ＲＯＭの直径は１２ｃｍであるため、短辺の外形最大寸法が１２ｃｍの封筒には物理的に収まらない。
