Description

1.Field of Invention
The present invention relates to elastic endless crawlers or trucks for large machines, agricultural equipment and the like that move large amounts of soil with trucks assembled on drive wheels.
2.Description of prior art
Vehicles such as large machines and agricultural devices that move large amounts of soil are constructed using endless trucks driven by drive wheels. The truck or belt is assembled on a plurality of wheels, at least one of which is a drive wheel, and is engaged with the drive wheel. Trucks are increasingly driven by truck systems because trucks have higher traction in the soil and have less land compaction than vehicles equipped with regular pneumatic tires. ing. As a result of this renewed interest in truck systems, many improvements have recently been made in such systems.
One such improvement described in US Pat. No. 5,279,378 has a highly tensioned rubber-elastic outer surface that provides an improved friction coupling between the inner surface and the drive wheels. A vehicle having an endless belt will be described. This improvement is directed to the belt tension aspect of the invention. This improvement discloses an endless belt comprising at least one reinforcing filament wound substantially parallel to the long axis of the chassis.
The improvements described in US Pat. Nos. 5,295,741, 4,678,244 and 4,057,302 are directed to improving the coupling between the inside surface of the truck and the drive wheels of the vehicle. As described in U.S. Pat.No. 5,279,378, many belts or trucks use rubber lugs to achieve the coupling, but these improvements have been made to improve the coupling. Typically utilizes a mandrel of a material having a composition different from that of a rubber track.
While some of these improvements are effective, the method of producing reinforced endless rubber trucks is expensive and time consuming because of the propulsion of large machines that are used for agriculture or large volumes of soil. It takes.
Several V-belt manufacturing methods and equipment are available that can also be applied to tractor treads or belts. A description of such devices and methods is described in US Pat. Nos. 2,867,845 and 4,861,403. However, the V-belt size (which is small and typically has a width measured in inches) and its fraction is a rubber track (typically measured in feet) used in large machines that move large amounts of soil. It is not always practical to scale up the V-belt technique, and this size difference does not give a usable rubber track.
U.S. Pat. No. 2,867,845 describes an apparatus and method for forming a continuous V-belt. This V-belt is formed of segments and has lugs on one side. Such methods and apparatus are suitable for forming continuous V-belts, but apply these manufacturing methods to the production of heavy trucks required by agricultural or large machines that move large amounts of soil. Has a problem. When a V-belt is formed of segments and vulcanized in a mold, the segments have undesirable dividing lines between them. Since the segments are formed individually and each segment is vulcanized, the rubber between the segments is not vulcanized across the dividing line, resulting in a discontinuous region. This discontinuous region is less intense than the surrounding vulcanized cross-linked region. If the track is not vulcanized in the mold during molding, but rather is formed as an uncured rubber belt and is vulcanized separately after formation, the rubber is vulcanized after forming the uncured rubber belt. Therefore, a time-consuming operation is necessary. Furthermore, since the uncured rubber belt is vulcanized after molding, the rubber belt is no longer included in the mold during heating and compression, and the belt of the belt as a result of potential distortion and out of tolerance conditions is significant. To increase.
U.S. Pat. No. 4,861,403 is similar to U.S. Pat. No. 2,867845, except that a fabric-reinforced double-toothed belt is formed. Since teeth are formed on one side of the belt, it is partially vulcanized. In a subsequent operation, teeth are formed on the second side of the belt and then the entire belt is vulcanized.
The present invention is directed to an improved rubber track manufactured in accordance with the improved method and improved apparatus and overcomes the deficiencies and disadvantages of prior art methods and apparatus for manufacturing endless trucks.
Summary of invention
The present invention provides a new apparatus and method for producing endless rubber trucks for large vehicles such as tractors or large machines that move large amounts of soil. A mandrel insert with which a plurality of sprockets engage is disposed within or inside the endless rubber track to engage the power drive machine of the vehicle. The rubber tread is disposed outside or outside the rubber track. Rubber tracks are manufactured in segments, but are fully vulcanized and do not have discontinuous non-vulcanized regions between vulcanized segments as found in the prior art.
To provide such a tread, a first mold device is provided having an inner mold one and an outer mold one. One of the inner molds has a cavity shaped to the inner form of the manufactured rubber track, while one of the outer molds has a cavity shaped to the outer form of the manufactured rubber track This mold cavity is a female recess in a rubber track. One of each mold also includes a cooling groove located at the end so that each end can be cooled and maintained at a lower temperature than the inside of the mold. The moldable material will fill the mold cavity in the form of a track when placed in the mold. The mold apparatus also includes a removable subplate disposed between one of the inner mold and one of the outer mold. This sub-plate is an essentially flat plate. Arrangement means are also provided to correctly orient one of the molds to themselves and with respect to the subplate.
A first amount of uncured rubber of the desired component is provided. This uncured rubber in the slug state is placed adjacent to one of the inner molds of the first mold apparatus. This uncured rubber can occupy a substantial portion of one cavity of the inner mold.
The subplate is then placed next to the uncured rubber so that the uncured rubber is between the first surface of the subplate and one of the inner molds.
A second amount of uncured rubber of the desired composition is disposed adjacent to the first subplate surface and the second surface of the subplate opposite one of the inner molds. This composition may be the same as or different from the composition of the first amount of rubber. Next, one side of the outer mold is placed adjacent to the second amount of rubber so that the rubber is between the second surface of the sub-plate and one side of the outer mold.
The first mold apparatus is then heated at a temperature sufficient to soften the uncured rubber. At the same time, sufficient pressure is applied to the mold apparatus to allow the uncured rubber to flow completely through the mold cavity. However, the temperature is maintained within a sufficiently low range so that rubber vulcanization does not occur and sufficiently high so that the rubber flows relatively easily under the applied pressure. After the rubber has flowed to completely fill one cavity of the mold, one of the inner and outer molds is separated and the subplate is removed from between one of the molds.
A loop-shaped endless uncured rubber belt, which can be formed in any conventional manner, is now placed between one of the inner and outer molds, in a region substantially occupied by the sub-plate. The uncured rubber belt can include any well known reinforcing material such as steel cord or other reinforcing materials well known in the art. One of the molds filled with rubber is closed against the part of the uncured rubber belt. Cooling water is supplied to one cooling groove of the mold. The device is then heated to a high temperature. However, although the cooling water cools one end or the outside of the mold for a predetermined length L, the central portion of the mold apparatus is not affected by the cooling for a predetermined length P. For a predetermined length P, the temperature is raised sufficiently high to vulcanize the rubber in the central portion of the mold apparatus, but sufficient cooling is provided so that the rubber in the end portion is not vulcanized. A very thin transition zone of partially vulcanized rubber exists between the vulcanized part and the terminal part. At the same time, pressure is applied to the device. This apparatus maintains the temperature under pressure for a sufficient time to allow essentially complete vulcanization of the rubber along a predetermined length P. Upon releasing the pressure and separating one of the molds, the endless belt has a rubber track segment formed thereon. The rubber track segment has a vulcanized central portion of length P and a substantially uncured rubber track, each having a length L, having an outer segment portion. The method then proceeds from the formed rubber track segment to a predetermined distance Q along the endless uncured belt until the uncured belt has a plurality of formed rubber segments separated by a predetermined distance Q. And so on using the first type device.
A second mold device is provided having one inner mold and one outer mold. One of the inner molds has a cavity similar to the first mold device modeled on the inner configuration of the rubber track being manufactured, while one of the outer molds is modeled on the outer configuration of the rubber track being manufactured. It has the same cavity as the first type device. However, one of the molds of the second mold apparatus does not include a cooling groove as one of the molds of the first mold apparatus has. When the moldable material is placed in a mold, it will fill a cavity that takes the form of a track. The second type device also includes a removable subplate, which is disposed between one of the inner mold and one of the outer mold. The second plate subplate has three unique areas, two outboards or ends extending toward the end of the subplate, and a center extending between the outboard or ends. . The center is a substantially flat plate having a predetermined distance Q corresponding to the distance between the formed rubber segments made using the first type of device. Each outboard or end is at least equal to and preferably greater than the length L, where the dimension L corresponds to the length of the uncured portion of the formed rubber segment. Each outboard or end of the sub-plate has an interior shaped to the inner form of the rubber track and an exterior shaped to the outer form of the rubber track. When the sub-plate is assembled between one of the molds, the outboard or end engages the corresponding part of the mating inner mold part and the outer mold part cavity. That is, when assembled between the mold halves, the subplate is placed in a cavity that ensures that the moldable material fills the center of the mold apparatus and is located adjacent to the subplate outboard or end. Prevent material from getting in. Placement means are also provided to properly place one of the molds in relation to one of the molds and in relation to the removable subplate.
A third amount of uncured rubber having the same composition as the first amount of uncured rubber is placed adjacent to one of the inner molds of the second mold apparatus. Calculated and subsequently carefully measured, the amount of uncured rubber supplied is sufficient to fill one of the inner molds facing the center of the subplate, with little or no excess or waste.
The first side of the sub-plate is placed next to the third quantity of uncured rubber using positioning means and the sub-board outboard part is correctly aligned with one cavity of the corresponding mold to ensure this. Engage.
A fourth amount of uncured rubber having the same composition as the first amount of uncured rubber is placed adjacent to the second side of the subplate. Again, the amount of rubber supplied is sufficient to fill the outer mold cavity facing the center of the subplate, with little or no excess or waste.
One of the outer molds is assembled on the fourth amount of uncured rubber. Again, positioning means are used to ensure that the outboard or end of the subplate is properly mated with the corresponding one cavity of the outer mold. Here, the second mold apparatus is heated to a temperature sufficient to soften the third and fourth uncured rubber quantities, but not so high as to cause vulcanization of the rubber. At the same time, the rubber flows easily and pressure is applied to fill the inner and outer mold cavities facing the center of the subplate. The outboard or end of the subplate fills the cavity adjacent to one central portion of the inner and outer molds, thereby preventing rubber from flowing into the cavities in the mold outboard section. Following this molding operation, one of the inner and outer molds is separated from the mold and the subplate is removed.
Next, the portion of the uncured belt made between the formed rubber track segments made using the first mold device is placed between one side of the second mold device. The length of the uncured belt Q corresponds to the length Q of the central portion of the second type cavity filled with the uncured belt. One outer side of the mold has the same or greater length as L and overlaps with the uncured rubber portion of the formed rubber track segment made using the first mold apparatus. These portions L of the formed rubber track segment are substantially unvulcanized, but may include a thin transition zone of partially vulcanized rubber. Preferably, at least a portion of the formed rubber track segment that is overlapped and made during the previous operation using the first mold apparatus comprises fully vulcanized rubber in the first mold. Thus, the outer side of one side of the mold is longer than L. The vulcanized rubber placed in the cavity of the outer part of the second type device adjacent to this unvulcanized rubber serves as a packing to prevent movement of the uncured rubber from the center during subsequent operations. .
The second-type device, sandwiched between the uncured belt and the substantially unvulcanized portion of the formed rubber track segment, is closed and heated to raise the rubber temperature above the vulcanization temperature, During this time, pressure is applied to the device. The uncured rubber placed between one side of the mold is now vulcanized to produce a fully vulcanized track segment. The mold can then be removed and the process can be repeated. After repeating this process for each uncured belt segment of predetermined length Q, a complete endless vulcanized rubber track without discontinuous areas is produced.
One of the main advantages of the rubber track produced by the apparatus of the present invention and the method of the present invention is that the rubber track is formed of segments, but the rubber between the segments is vulcanized, i.e., properly cross-linked, Although itself is vulcanized, the cross-links are not extended across the parting line, but weak and discontinuous regions as in the prior art are eliminated. Since this weak region has been eliminated, the vulcanized rubber track of the present invention does not tend to break on the weak region.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, the principles of the invention.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment
The present invention is directed to a novel method and apparatus for producing an endless rubber track. The rubber track is characterized by a belt disposed between the inner surface to which the sprocket engages and the outer surface to be treaded.
Preferably, the belt is continuous and does not include splices. In an optionally selected shape, the track is further characterized in that it includes a mandrel insert that engages a rigid sprocket extending inside the inner surface of the rubber track to engage the tractor drive machine.
The belt is disposed between the inside and the outside of the rubber track. This belt can be formed by methods well known in the art. A continuous steel belt is suitable for the main cord, but a fabric belt can also be used. In addition to the main cord of the belt, the belt preferably includes at least one bias ply. When this bias ply is included, it is positioned at an angle of ± 30-60 ° with respect to the main cord and is preferably positioned at an angle of ± 45 ° with respect to the main cord. However, bias plies need not be assembled into the main cord. The belt may simply consist of the main cord. The belt is first formed as an uncured rubber belt, which is made by methods well known in the art.
In an optional arrangement, the mandrel insert is woven into the track as part of the manufacturing process. The
