BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical fiber clamp for sandwiching and holding an optical fiber, and is particularly suitable as a clamp in an optical fiber fusion splicing device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Basically, a clamp in an optical fiber fusion splicing device is composed of a positioning base on which a V-groove capable of setting an end of an optical fiber to be connected is formed, and an end of the optical fiber set in the V-groove. It consists of a presser that presses and presses from above. In an optical fiber fusion splicing device provided with this type of clamp, two optical fibers to be connected are sandwiched and held by a pair of clamps arranged opposite to each other, and both or one clamp (positioning stand) ) Is moved so that the optical fibers clamped and held between the clamps can be aligned, or the end surfaces can be abutted.
[0003]
However, polarization-maintaining optical fibers such as panda fibers and bow tie fibers have stress applying portions that cause anisotropic distortion in the core. It is necessary to align the applicator. Therefore, the clamp of the optical fiber fusion splicing device corresponding to the polarization-maintaining optical fiber needs to be able to align the stress applying portion in addition to the axial alignment and the end face abutting.
[0004]
As an example of a clamp having a function of aligning the stress applying portion, there are conventional ones shown in FIGS. 6 (a) and 6 (b) and FIGS. 7 (a) and 7 (b). The clamp shown in these drawings includes a positioning base D in which a V-groove in which an end B of the optical fiber A is set, a presser E that presses the end B set in the V-groove from above, The optical fiber A includes a gripping portion F that grips a portion that is not set in the V-groove. There are the following two methods for aligning the stress applying portions between two polarization-maintaining optical fibers that are fusion-bonded by this type of clamp. First, as shown in FIGS. 6 (a) and 6 (b), the end portion B of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A with the core wire end portion G with the coating removed is used as the V groove of the positioning table D. This is set and held by the presser E between the V groove. Next, of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A that is sandwiched and held, a portion that is not set in the V-groove is gripped by the grip portion F. Thereafter, the gripping portion F is rotated in the direction of the arrow in the figure to rotate the polarization preserving optical fiber A about its axis, so that the position of the stress applying portion of the optical fiber A is offset by a connection partner (not shown). This is a method of matching with a stress applying portion of a wavefront preserving optical fiber. As shown in FIGS. 7 (a) and 7 (b), the other one positions the coated end portion H in the axial direction before the core end portion G out of the end portion B of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A. The rest is a method of aligning the stress applying portions with each other in the same manner as in the above method by setting in the V groove of the table D.
[0005]
As another example of the clamp having the function of aligning the stress applying portion of the polarization plane preserving optical fiber, there is a conventional one shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 8, the clamp is configured such that the positioning table D and the presser E shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 can be rotated in the arrow direction of FIG. 8. The clamp shown in FIG. 8 holds the coated end portion H of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A between the V groove of the positioning table D and the presser E, and in this state, holds the positioning table D and the presser E in the direction of the arrow. , The polarization preserving optical fiber A is rotated, and the position of the stress applying portion of the fiber A is matched with the stress applying portion of the polarization maintaining optical fiber of the connection partner.
[0006]
FIG. 9 shows another conventional example of a clamp having a function of aligning a stress applying portion of a polarization-maintaining optical fiber. This clamp is a positioning table D in which a V-groove is formed in which the coated end H in the axial direction is set from the core wire end G out of the end B of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A to be connected. And a rotating roller J for pressing and holding the covering end H set in the V-groove from above. The clamp shown in FIG. 9 rotates the rotating roller J holding the coated end portion H in the direction of the arrow in the figure, so that the polarization-maintaining optical fiber A is in a direction opposite to the rotating direction of the rotating roller J. The position of the stress applying portion of the fiber is matched with the stress applying portion of the polarization maintaining optical fiber of the connection partner.
[0007]
As shown in FIG. 6, as a method for fusion-splicing optical fibers, as shown in FIG. 6, the portion of the optical fiber from which the coating has been removed (core wire end) is clamped for axial alignment or butt-matching. There are two types: a method of performing these operations, and a method of performing these operations by clamping a portion (covered end portion) from which the coating has not been removed, as shown in FIGS. Among these, the former clamps the core end portion from which the coating has been removed, so that there is a risk that the end portion of the core wire may be damaged and the connection strength may be reduced, but the latter does not have such a defect. Therefore, the latter is called high-strength fusion splicing regardless of the structure of the clamp used, and demand is increasing.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Among the conventional clamping mechanisms, the clamp shown in FIG. 6 or 7 has the following problems.
(1) In order to apply a rotational force to the optical fiber in a state where the end portion or the covering end portion of the optical fiber is clamped between the V-groove and the presser, the surface of the V-groove and the presser and the core of the optical fiber The core wire end portion or the covering end portion does not rotate smoothly due to the frictional resistance generated between the end portion or the surface of the covering end portion. As a result, the rotation amount of the core wire end portion or the covering end portion of the optical fiber does not follow the rotation amount of the gripping portion, and the core end portion or the covering end portion that is clamped and the other portion of the optical fiber. Twisting occurs between them, making it difficult to align the stress applying portion. In particular, the coated end portion has a higher frictional resistance than the core end portion that has been stripped and has become a bare fiber. Therefore, when the coated end portion is clamped to realize the high-strength fusion splicing, Becomes more serious.
(2) In addition, when the coating of the optical fiber is a flexible material such as a polymer material, the coating is crushed by clamping, and the cross-sectional shape is changed from a circle to a substantially triangle, and further rotated. It becomes difficult. This problem is common to the clamp shown in FIG.
[0009]
Among the conventional clamp mechanisms, the clamp shown in FIG. 8 has the following problems.
(1) If the center of the optical fiber does not coincide with the center of rotation of the positioning table and the presser, the center of the optical fiber is shifted when the positioning table or the like is rotated. Therefore, each time the coating diameter (outer diameter) of the optical fiber is different, it is necessary to adjust the positioning table and the presser and align the center of rotation with the center of the optical fiber.
[0010]
In order to solve the problems of the conventional clamp described above, it is conceivable to weaken the clamping force, that is, the pressure applied to the end portion of the optical fiber by the presser body or the rotating roller. However, if the clamping force is weakened, the optical fiber moves in the axial direction due to the pushing during fusion, causing an axis shift, or when the positioning table is moved for axial alignment, the optical fiber is moved into the V-groove. Another problem arises, such as moving by moving out of the V groove or becoming unstable.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The objective of this invention is providing the clamp which solves the said various problems. Specifically, when rotating the optical fiber around its axis, the clamping force is weakened to ensure smooth rotation, and at other times the clamping force is increased to prevent the optical fiber from being displaced or displaced. It is to provide a clamp that can.
[0012]
The first optical fiber clamp of the present application includes a positioning base for the end of the optical fiber is settable V grooves are formed, to be Kutsugaetan portion of the optical fiber set in the V-groove in the V-groove side pressure A presser body that is pressed and held and a drive unit that adjusts the pressurization of the presser body, and is controlled in consideration of frictional resistance between the surface of the V groove and the presser body and the covering end or / and deformation of the covering. The operation amount of the drive unit is controlled by the unit, and when rotating around its axis according to the type of optical fiber clamped and held by the presser, it is pressurized when rotating and when not rotating otherwise Can be adjusted.
[0013]
The second optical fiber clamp of the present application, the retainer member is driven by the driving unit, the driving unit is controlled quantity operation by the control unit, the pressure of the control unit to the Kutsugaetan portion of the optical fiber by the pressing member The drive unit can be controlled to achieve a predetermined pressurization set in advance.
[0014]
Third optical fiber clamp of the present application, as the application of pressure to the Kutsugaetan portion of the optical fiber by the pressing member, non when rotating at a pressure other than this when rotating the optical fiber about its axis Pressurization during rotation is set, and the control unit uses a presser so that pressurization during rotation is achieved when the optical fiber is rotated around its axis, and pressurization during non-rotation is achieved in other cases. The drive unit can be controlled so that the pressurization is switched.
[0015]
In the fourth optical fiber clamp of the present application, the control unit controls the drive unit according to a software program inputted in advance.
[0016]
In the fifth optical fiber clamp of the present application, when the drive unit is controlled by current by the control unit, the operation amount is controlled by the linear actuator, and the optical fiber clamped and held by the presser body is rotated around its axis. It can be adjusted to the pressurization during rotation and the non-rotation pressurization at other times.
[0017]
Sixth optical fiber clamp of the present application, of the optical fiber, grips the portion which is not set in the V grooves of the positioning base, are those comprising a grip portion for rotating the optical fiber about its axis.

【The invention's effect】
Inventions of the present application has the following effects.
(1) The pressure applied by the presser can be adjusted so that the coated end of the optical fiber held by the presser can be rotated about its axis. As it is, the clamping force can be weakened to ensure smooth rotation, and at other times, the optical fiber can be firmly clamped and held so as not to be displaced. Therefore, if the optical fiber fusion splicing device is used as a clamp, the polarization preserving optical fiber is rotated about its axis, and the position of the stress applying portion of the fiber is smoothly and that of the polarization preserving optical fiber of the connection partner. The optical fibers can be reliably matched, and the optical fiber is not displaced during fusion or axial alignment.
(2) Pressurization adjustment of the presser body by the drive unit is performed when rotating the optical fiber whose covering end is sandwiched and held by the presser body around the axis of the optical fiber, and otherwise Since the pressure can be adjusted to the non-rotating pressure, the optical fiber can be smoothly rotated around the axis, and the optical fiber is clamped between the end of the core wire or the coated end and the other portion. No twisting occurs, and the alignment of the stress applying portion is facilitated. In addition, when aligning, butting, and fusing the axes of the optical fibers to be connected, the optical fibers can be reliably pressurized. The optical fiber does not move in the V-groove and come out of the V-groove or become unstable when the positioning table is moved for axial alignment.
(3) For each type of optical fiber, if the rotation pressure for rotating the optical fiber around its axis and the non-rotation pressure for other times are set, light The effect (1) can be obtained without changing the setting each time the type of fiber changes.
(4) Due to the above effects, high-strength fusion splicing of optical fibers can be realized easily and reliably.
