TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus using an electrostatic suction conveyance unit in a paper conveyance unit, and more particularly to a flight control of a droplet of ink or the like discharged from a recording head.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, there has been known an ink jet recording apparatus that performs recording on a recording medium such as paper, an OHP sheet, or cloth by discharging ink droplets from a discharge port of a recording head. Ink jet recording devices are non-impact recording devices that have the features of low noise, direct recording on plain paper, and the ability to easily record color images by using multicolor inks. It is spreading rapidly. Above all, an ink jet recording apparatus using a recording head of a type in which thermal energy is applied to ink in response to a recording signal to generate air bubbles and a droplet of ink or the like is ejected by the pressure of the air bubbles has a structure of the recording head. It is simple and it is easy to form a so-called multi-nozzle in which the ejection ports can be arranged at a high density, and it has the advantage that high resolution and high-speed printing can be easily performed.
[0003]
However, in such an ink jet recording apparatus, droplets are ejected to a recording medium arranged at a fixed distance from a recording head, and droplets of ink or the like land at desired positions on the recording medium. Therefore, in order to perform good recording, it is necessary to particularly consider these distances and the like. For example, in order to maintain the quality of recording, droplets are landed at desired positions on the recording medium to form dots of a predetermined size, and the distance between the recording head and the recording medium is kept constant and the recording medium is fed. It needs to be controlled precisely. For this reason, it has been conventionally known that a recording medium is conveyed while being attracted and held to a belt or the like constituting a conveying means by electrostatic force. As a method of adsorbing such a recording medium, for example, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 62-147473, a method of charging a belt in advance, bringing the recording medium into contact with the belt, and adsorbing the recording medium by a suction force due to dielectric polarization. It has been known.
[0004]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 60-46257, 62-151348, and 62-225353 disclose examples of the use of electrostatic force to improve the landing accuracy of ejected ink droplets. Is disclosed. In each of these methods, an electrode is arranged behind a recording medium, that is, on a side where no recording head is provided, and a voltage is applied between the electrode and the recording ink.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the above-described conventional configuration in which a recording medium is attracted and held on a belt by electrostatic force, an electric field is generated between the surface of the recording medium and the surface of the recording head, and the electric field is generated by the ink liquid ejected from the recording head. There is a problem in that the influence on the droplets may make it impossible to perform good recording. Specifically, a satellite formed by the division of the ejected ink droplets may reverse its flight direction and head toward the recording head. This is because the satellite is often charged to the same polarity as the recording medium by the action of the electric field, and a repulsive force is generated between the satellite and the recording medium.
[0006]
As a result, the amount of ink flying from the ejection port toward the recording medium is reduced as compared with a case where there is no electric field as shown in FIG. 12A, that is, a case where no electrostatic force is used for holding the recording medium by suction. In addition, there is a problem that dots of a predetermined size cannot be formed. Further, as shown in FIG. 12B, as described above, the satellite heading toward the recording head due to the influence of the electric field adheres to the ejection port surface of the recording head, especially near the ejection port, and adversely affects subsequent ejection. There are also problems. For example, if the satellite adheres to the vicinity of the ejection port on the ejection port surface, the subsequent normal ejection of the ink is hindered, and the ejection direction of the ink is deflected and ejection failure such as non-ejection of the ink occurs. When a water-based ink is used, the adherence of satellites can be prevented to some extent by performing a water-repellent treatment on the discharge port surface, but the water-repellent treatment alone may not be sufficient. When a treatment liquid for insolubilizing the ink (hereinafter also referred to as a “printability improving liquid”) is used to improve the printability and the water resistance of the recording result, the satellite reacts with the ink on the ejection port surface. Then, it may be insolubilized, resulting in relatively serious ejection failure.
[0007]
The above problem will be described more specifically with reference to FIGS. FIG. 13 is a side sectional view showing a schematic configuration of a conventional example of an ink jet recording apparatus. In this ink jet recording apparatus, a

Still another object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of preventing ink ejection failure and performing good recording even when utilizing electrostatic force for holding a recording medium by suction. is there.
[0017]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
Therefore, according to the present invention, in an ink jet recording apparatus that performs recording by discharging a liquid to a recording medium using a recording head that discharges a liquid, a holding unit that attracts and holds the recording medium by electrostatic force, and generates an electrostatic force. Therefore, the first voltage applying means for maintaining the holding means at a predetermined potential, and the holding means at a position facing the recording head when discharging the liquid from the recording head, Same potential as the recording head And second voltage applying means for maintaining
[0019]
Preferably The holding means constitutes a conveying means for adsorbing and conveying the recording medium by electrostatic force.
[0020]
More preferably, the transport means has a transport belt provided with a plurality of conductive patterns for partially electrostatically attracting the recording medium for transporting the recording medium and electrodes connected to the conductive pattern, The first voltage applying unit applies a voltage for electrostatic attraction to the conductive pattern via the electrode, and the second voltage applying unit applies the voltage via the electrode at a position facing the recording head. The present invention is characterized in that a predetermined potential is maintained by applying a voltage to the conductive pattern.
[0021]
Further, in an ink jet recording apparatus that performs recording by discharging a liquid to a recording medium that moves relative to the recording head using a recording head that discharges a liquid, a holding unit that attracts and conveys the recording medium by electrostatic force and A voltage applying means for maintaining the holding means at a predetermined potential to generate an electrostatic force, and controlling an electric field generated by the voltage applying means maintaining the predetermined potential, so that a liquid is ejected from the recording head. Means for preventing an electric field from being generated between the recording head and a portion of the recording medium to which the ejected liquid is applied.
[0022]
According to the above configuration, the holding means of the recording medium is used to generate an electrostatic force for holding the recording medium. Same potential as recording head The electric field generated by maintaining this potential does not act between the recording head and the portion on the recording medium to which the liquid to be ejected is applied. Even if the separated liquid such as ink is separated into the main liquid and the satellite, dielectric polarization does not occur between them. Accordingly, the satellite has the same polarity as the recording medium and does not receive a repulsive force from the recording medium, and can fly toward the recording medium together with the main droplet.

Similarly, FIG. 11 shows an equivalent circuit in the suction state in the case of the brush power supply of this example. The flow of the current shown in the figure is almost the same as the case of FIG. 9 shown in the previous example, and the same effect can be exerted in the adsorption of the sheet.
[0054]
In the above-described embodiment, the transport belt is described while holding the sheet. However, the recording head is moved, and the configuration of the conductive pattern and the brush is applied to the holding unit that holds the sheet in a fixed manner. May be used. In this case, for example, a configuration such as a brush for maintaining the potential of the recording head at a predetermined value in accordance with the movement of the recording head is required.
[0055]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, in order to generate an electrostatic force for holding a recording medium, the holding means for the recording medium is used. Same potential as recording head The electric field generated by maintaining this potential does not act between the recording head and the portion on the recording medium to which the liquid to be ejected is applied. Even if the separated liquid such as ink is separated into the main liquid and the satellite, no dielectric polarization occurs between them. Accordingly, the satellite has the same polarity as the recording medium and does not receive a repulsive force from the recording medium, and can fly toward the recording medium together with the main droplet.
[0056]
As a result, the satellite is not attracted to the recording head, and the probability that droplets adhere to the vicinity of the ejection port of the recording head is reduced. Therefore, the probability of occurrence of non-ejection or skewing of ink droplets is reduced, and a stable ink ejection state can be obtained.
[0057]
Also, in the paper conveyance, even when the recording head and the conductive pattern immediately below the recording head are, for example, in a 0V state, if a voltage is applied to the conductive pattern on the upstream side and the downstream side immediately below the recording head so as to perform sheet suction, Since the adhesiveness of the sheet can be maintained even on the conductive pattern immediately below the recording head, the sheet does not rise and the jam of the sheet can be suppressed. That is, by adopting the configuration of the present application, stable ejection of ink droplets and stable paper transport can be achieved.
