[Industrial applications]
The present invention relates to an ink jet printer that forms an image on paper using ink ejected from an ink head, and more particularly to a carriage driving mechanism that moves a carriage equipped with an ink cartridge and an ink head in the main scanning direction so as to face the paper surface. .
[0002]
[Prior art]
Generally, in an ink jet printer, a carriage on which an ink cartridge and an ink head are mounted reciprocates in the main scanning direction with respect to the surface of the paper, and during this time, ink in the ink cartridge is ejected from the ink head to the surface of the paper to perform printing. Perform processing. In such an ink-jet printer, as a drive mechanism for reciprocating the carriage in the main scanning direction, conventionally, a screw shaft or a timing belt is provided on one side in the sub-scanning direction orthogonal to the main scanning direction of the carriage. A drive mechanism of a so-called one-side drive system that transmits a drive force is used.
[0003]
A one-sided drive mechanism using a screw shaft is disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Hei 6-24001. That is, as shown in FIG. 8, a
[0004]
Further, as shown in FIG. 9, the one-side drive type driving mechanism using the timing belt includes a part of the
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional one-side drive type driving mechanism, the driving force supplied to only one side of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction acts on the carriage as a rotational force in a plane including the main scanning direction, and the direction in which the driving force acts on the carriage. Is deflected from the main scanning direction, which is the moving direction. As a result, when the carriage moves, the frictional resistance with a member such as a guide shaft arranged in parallel with the main scanning direction increases, and the carriage cannot be moved smoothly. In addition, there is a problem that not only the driving mechanism is worn out at an early stage, but also the image quality is deteriorated due to overlapping or missing printing positions on the recording paper.
[0006]
Further, when the number of nozzles arranged in the ink head is relatively small, such as about 100 to 300 rows, the weight of the carriage including the ink cartridge and the ink head does not increase so much. Since the difference from the weight of the ink cartridge immediately before is not so large, the frictional resistance acting during the movement of the carriage does not greatly change over the entire usage period of the ink cartridge, but the speed of the printing process and the image quality can be improved. When the number of nozzles arranged in the ink head increases to about 1000 to 2000 rows with the increase in resolution, not only the structure of the ink head becomes complicated, but also the amount of ink consumed per unit printing time increases. It is necessary to relatively increase the capacity of the ink cartridge to be mounted on the The difference between the weight of the ink cartridge and the weight of the ink cartridge immediately before replacement increases, and the frictional resistance acting on the carriage immediately after the start of use of the ink cartridge and immediately before replacement greatly changes. The carriage cannot be moved smoothly in a stable state, and the above-mentioned problems of wear of the driving mechanism and deterioration of image quality become serious problems.
[0007]
An object of the present invention is to simultaneously apply driving forces having the same direction and magnitude to both ends of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction, so that a rotational force in a plane including the main scanning direction does not act on the carriage. As a result, even when the capacity of the ink cartridge to be mounted on the carriage is increased, the carriage can be smoothly moved in a stable state over the entire period of use of the ink cartridge, resulting in early wear or printing. An object of the present invention is to provide a carriage driving mechanism of an ink jet printer which does not cause deterioration in image quality.

[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has the following arrangement as means for solving the above-mentioned problems.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has the following arrangement as means for solving the above-mentioned problems.
(1) A guide shaft parallel to the main scanning direction is penetrated near one end in the sub-scanning direction of the carriage equipped with the ink cartridge and the ink head, and a guide shaft parallel to the main scanning direction is formed near the other end. A carriage driving mechanism for an ink jet printer, comprising: a transmission member that is in contact with each other and transmits driving forces in the main scanning direction having the same direction and magnitude at the same timing at both ends of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction. ,
The transmission member includes a driving pulley and a driven pulley rotatably disposed at both ends of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction, a timing belt stretched between the driving pulley and the driven pulley, one driving pulley and the other. And a second connecting shaft coaxially connecting one driven pulley and the other driven pulley, and one driving pulley fixed to a rotating shaft. Do a scanning motor for rotating in forward and reverse directions Te Ri,
It transmits the rotation of one of the driving pulley via the first connecting shaft to the other drive pulley, that you transmit the rotation of one of the driven pulley via the second connecting shaft to the other of the driven pulley Features.
In the present invention, driving forces having the same direction and magnitude are supplied at the same timing to both ends of the carriage moving in the main scanning direction in the sub-scanning direction. Therefore, the driving force supplied to the carriage does not act on the carriage as a rotational force in a plane including the main scanning direction, and the moving direction of the carriage does not deflect with respect to the main scanning direction. One driven pulley and the other driven pulley are coaxially connected by the second connection shaft. Therefore, the rotation operations of the two timing belts are reliably synchronized, and the magnitude of the driving force supplied to each of both ends of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction is more reliably maintained.

When a print request is input from an external device such as a computer to the ink jet printer (s1), a conveying member (not shown) is driven to convey a recording sheet in a sub-scanning direction orthogonal to the main scanning direction (s2). Due to the conveyance of the recording paper, the printing start position on the surface of the recording paper faces the ink head mounted on the

As described above, when the weight difference between the ink cartridges is increased, in a conventional configuration in which the driving force is supplied only to one end of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction, the driving force acts on the scanning motor as shown in FIG. The difference between the loads (in FIG. 3, the load acting on the scanning motor is represented by the current value supplied to the scanning motor) is further increased. This is considered to be because the frictional resistance with the guide shaft or the like due to the error in the moving direction of the carriage increases as the weight of the carriage increases. For this reason, in the conventional carriage driving mechanism, it is difficult to smoothly move the carriage in a stable state over the entire use period of the ink cartridge mounted on the carriage.

【The invention's effect】
According to the first aspect of the present invention, the driving force having the same direction and the same magnitude is supplied at the same timing to both ends in the sub-scanning direction of the carriage moving in the main scanning direction, so that the carriage is supplied to the carriage. The driving force applied to the carriage can be prevented from acting on the carriage as a rotational force in a plane including the main scanning direction. The carriage can be moved smoothly, and wear of the drive mechanism and image deterioration can be prevented. Further, by connecting one driven pulley and the other driven pulley coaxially by the second connecting shaft, the rotation operations of the two timing belts can be reliably synchronized, and the carriage in the sub-scanning direction in the sub-scanning direction can be surely synchronized. It is possible to more reliably maintain the same magnitude of the driving force to be supplied to each of the both ends and completely prevent the occurrence of an error in the moving direction of the carriage, and to move the carriage smoothly in a more stable state. be able to.
