FIG. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a fixing device. The fixing device includes a heat roller (heating body) 51 disposed above and a pressure roller 52 disposed below the heat roller (heating body). The heat roller 51 has a main heater 53a and a sub-heater 53b inside thereof, and the main heater 53a is always used at the time of fixing, whereas the sub-heater 53b is used at the time of startup to shorten the weight. A transfer material P is inserted into a fixing nip portion between the heat roller 51 and the pressure roller 52. The toner 54 transferred from the photoconductor in the image forming unit is electrostatically held on the surface of the transfer material P, that is, carried in an unfixed state. When the transfer material P is inserted into the fixing nip portion, the transfer material P is heated by the heat roller 51 that directly contacts the toner 54 on the surface, and at the same time, the transfer material P
The toner 54 is melted and fixed by the heating and the pressure, and is fixed.

If the fixing of the toner 54 is not performed at a temperature higher than a temperature at which the resin or the like constituting the toner 54 is softened or dissolved, a low-temperature offset occurs. On the other hand, if the temperature is too high, there is a problem that a high-temperature offset will occur this time. That is, the fixing has a lower limit and an upper limit of the optimum temperature, and when the fixing temperature is controlled within these ranges, good fixing is performed. The control of the fixing temperature is performed based on the temperature of the surface of the heat roller 51 detected by the thermistor 55.

However, in the fixing device having the above-described configuration, when the copying speed during continuous copying (during continuous image formation) is to be increased, as the number of copies increases, the transfer material P and toner 54 are increased.
As a result, the amount of heat equal to or more than the amount of heat supplied from the heat roller 51 is deprived, and the temperature detected by the thermistor 55 decreases.
That is, the fixing temperature decreases. To prevent this, the power applied to the main heater 53a may be increased, but the overall power consumption of the copier and the like is also increased, so that a general household power supply cannot be used and the installation location is limited. Such a trouble occurs. In recent years, improvement in productivity (productivity) of copying machines and the like has been required.
The provision of a further high-speed machine is indispensable, and the ratio of the power consumption of the heat source of the fixing device to the total power consumption of the copying machine and the like is increasing. For this reason, it has become increasingly strict to satisfy the specifications in a general power supply.

Therefore, conventionally, when the temperature of the heat roller 51 has reached the lower limit temperature for fixing during continuous copying,
The copying has been temporarily suspended and has been on standby until the temperature of the heat roller 51 is restored to an appropriate temperature. Further, as another method, when the temperature becomes slightly higher than the lower limit temperature for fixing, the copy cycle up to that time is extended, and the rate of decrease of the fixing temperature (the temperature for fixing one sheet of the transfer material P) is reduced. There is also proposed a method of alleviating the decrease in the temperature and increasing the time until the temperature reaches the lower limit temperature for fixing. Further, as a method of extending the copy cycle, a method has been proposed in which the fixing processing speed is determined according to the temperature drop rate of the fixing temperature and the number of remaining copies, so that copying is not suspended. In other words, if the fixing temperature decreases during continuous copying, the copying cycle is appropriately extended, and the time interval between the copying of the transfer material P and the copying of the subsequent transfer material P is sufficiently recovered by the temperature of the transfer roller 51. It is set to such an extent that it does not decrease.

However, according to the above-mentioned prior art, there is a problem that the total copying time for the entire set number of sheets in continuous copying becomes long. That is, the above-mentioned system is not a system for controlling the total copying time to the shortest, but not only does not suspend the copying operation, but also takes a longer total copying time than other models having a lower copying speed. In some cases, it will pass. For this reason, it is impossible to improve the productivity of a copying machine or the like. further,
Even after the copy cycle is changed, since the fixing is performed near the lower limit of the fixable temperature, the image quality may not be optimal.

According to the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided an image forming means for forming an image on a transfer material, a heating element for heating the image on the transfer material, A temperature detecting element for detecting the temperature of the heating element, and a control unit for controlling the temperature of the heating element so that the detected temperature of the temperature detecting element maintains a regulated temperature, formed by the image forming unit. In the image forming apparatus which heats and fixes the image on the transferred transfer material with the heat of the heating element and outputs the set number of transfer materials continuously, the temperature detected by the temperature detecting element becomes high while continuously outputting the set number of transfer materials. When the temperature drops to a predetermined temperature lower than the regulated temperature, whether to reduce the number of output sheets per unit time or temporarily suspend the output of the transfer material is preset for each of the number of unoutputted transfer materials and the size of the transfer material. Select by comparing with the set reference number It characterized by having a selection means that.

According to the above construction, when the temperature of the heating element is reduced to the copy cycle change temperature, whether the cycle is extended or temporarily stopped is selected. This selection is made so as to shorten the entire copying time. That is, the time when the remaining number of copies is copied in the extended cycle is compared with the time obtained by adding the time when the remaining number of copies is copied in the same cycle to the temporary suspension time, and this time is calculated. Choose to be shorter.

In the fixing device, when continuous copying is performed,
Since the heat of the heating element is sequentially taken by the toner image and the transfer material,
The fixing temperature of the heating element decreases. Factors that increase the rate of decrease, which indicates the degree of decrease in the fixing temperature, include the fluctuation of the input power supply voltage, the environment (temperature and humidity) of the place where the main body is installed, the document density, and the physical properties of the transfer material (thickness, moisture content). , Surface properties,
The size, the size of the transfer material, the temperature of the pressure roller, the size of the fixing nip, and the like are increased.

[0012] The temperature drop rate of the fixing temperature is greatly affected by such various situations. In the case where continuous copying is executed, if the copy cycle change temperature is reached early due to the above situation, copying is temporarily stopped, for example, the main heater and the sub heater are turned on, and the heating element returns to the fixing temperature control temperature. In some cases, waiting until the copying time is longer than that in the case where the copying cycle is extended can improve the efficiency of fixing heat and shorten the total copying time.

An original is set, the number of copies for continuous copying is set, and copying is started by pressing a copy button (S2). When the copy is started and copying is successively performed on the transfer material P,
The fixing temperature T gradually decreases. If the fixing temperature T is replication cycle change temperature (second temperature) T 2 (S3), whether the copy remaining number M at that time, more than 0 Like M being determined on the transfer material by size, or less A judgment is made (S4). In such a case, when the main heater 53a and the sub-heater 53b are turned on during the copying pause, the fixing driving unit is operated to rotate the pressure roller 52. Thereby, it is effective to make the temperature inside the pressure roller 52 close to the surface temperature and to accumulate heat in the pressure roller 52. However, when the fixing driving unit is operated and the fixing device is idly rotated, the time (t 0 + t 1 ) from the copy cycle change temperature T 2 to the fixing temperature adjustment temperature T 1 becomes longer, and the first embodiment will be described. It takes extra time by t 1 compared to the case where the pressure roller 52 is stationary.

As described above, when the fixing drive is operated during the temporary stop, the heat of the pressure roller 52 can be accumulated.
It is possible to reduce the rate of decrease in the fixing temperature again after the restart, and it is possible to measure a reduction in the copying time rather than changing the copying cycle. Embodiment 3 Embodiment 3 will be described. In the embodiment, when copying is temporarily stopped, it is described that the apparatus waits for a time t 0 until the fixing temperature T 1 is restored.
Depending on the replication remaining number when it reaches the copying cycle change temperature T 2, than when changing the copying cycle, the total copying time by only pause time t 3 when the equal to or shorter, to execute the copying Is also good. Assuming that the temperature at the time of the temporary stop of the time t 3 is T 3 , in this case, t 3 <t 0 , so that the fixing temperature control temperature T 1 is not completely restored (T 2
<T 3 <T 1 ) Even though the copying cycle is changed, the fixing process can be performed at a more optimal fixing temperature, and the total copying time can be reduced.

As described above, according to the present invention,
During continuous copying of the transfer material, when the fixing device reaches the copy cycle change temperature, taking into account the number of remaining copies and the processing time,
By selecting whether to change the copy cycle and continue copying, or to temporarily suspend copying and wait for the fixing temperature to return to the regulated temperature before resuming copying, the total copying time can be reduced, and When the temporary stop is selected, the fixing process at a more optimal fixing temperature can be performed.
