The present invention relates to a method for producing polyoxymethylene.
Polyoxymethylene has an excellent balance of mechanical properties, chemical resistance, slidability, etc., and is easy to process. It is widely used mainly for various machine parts. In recent years, with the expansion of the range of its use, there is a tendency that higher mechanical properties are required.
Polyoxymethylene can be obtained by cationic polymerization of formaldehyde or cyclic ethers such as 1,3,5-trioxane, or anionic polymerization of formaldehyde.
Thermally stable polyoxymethylenes undergo cationic polymerization of monomers that form formaldehyde units (preferably 1,3,5-trioxane) along with a small amount of comonomer, thereby introducing a small amount of oxyalkylene units into the chain. can be synthesized by randomly incorporating into Bronsted acids and Lewis acids are used as initiators.
The polymers obtained by such methods solidify in the early stages of polymerization resulting in different molecular weight distributions. Typically, there is a maximum in the molecular weight distribution curve in the relatively low molecular weight region (eg, 2,000-5,000 daltons) and a further maximum in the molecular weight distribution curve is in the relatively high molecular weight region (eg, 50,000 daltons). 000-200,000 Daltons). The content of these low-molecular-weight components affects the mechanical properties of the polymer (Patent Document 1). By cationic polymerization of a monomer forming a [-CH 2 -O-] unit in the presence of an initiator, polyoxymethylene with a low content of low-molecular-weight components and excellent mechanical strength can be obtained. It is known (Patent Document 1).
However, the production method described in Patent Literature 1 is complicated because it uses a monomer in a solid state and thus includes a cooling step during polymerization and a heating step for removing residual monomers.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and by using tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst and using it as a mixture with a specific solvent for polymerization, the yield is high and the content of low molecular weight components is low. Disclosed is a method for conveniently producing methylene.
The present inventors have conducted repeated studies to solve the above problems, and as a result, 1,3,5-trioxane (hereinafter sometimes simply referred to as trioxane), cyclic ether, selected from the group consisting of cyclic formal In the polymerization of at least one monomer, tin tetrachloride is used as a polymerization catalyst, and a catalyst solution that is a mixed solution containing a specific aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent is used for polymerization, and the concentration of the polymerization catalyst in the catalyst solution is within a specific range. As a result, the inventors have found that the above problems can be solved, and have completed the present invention.

<Method for producing polyoxymethylene>
The method for producing polyoxymethylene of the present embodiment is a method for producing polyoxymethylene by polymerizing at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of trioxane, cyclic ether and cyclic formal, and the monomer and a catalyst solution are combined. It includes a polymerization step of mixing and polymerizing to obtain polyoxymethylene.
Here, in the method for producing polyoxymethylene of the present embodiment, the catalyst liquid contains tin tetrachloride and an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent.
Further, in the method for producing polyoxymethylene of the present embodiment, the number of moles of tin tetrachloride is 5.0×10 −6 to 1.0×10 with respect to the total number of moles of the monomers during the polymerization step. The catalyst solution is added so that it becomes -4 .
<Polyoxymethylene>
Polyoxymethylene according to the present embodiment includes polyoxymethylene homopolymers and polyoxymethylene copolymers.
<Monomer>
In the method for producing polyoxymethylene in the present embodiment, at least one selected from the group consisting of trioxane, cyclic ether and cyclic formal is used as a monomer.
<Trioxane>
Trioxane used in this embodiment can be produced, for example, by reacting formaldehyde in the presence of an acidic catalyst. The trioxane thus obtained usually contains chain-transferable components (impurities) such as water and formic acid. When these chain-transferable components are contained, the polymer terminal groups of polyoxymethylene obtained by polymerization become thermally unstable, making it difficult to obtain polyoxymethylene with high thermal stability. Therefore, it is preferable to purify and remove these chain-transferable components (impurities) to a certain concentration before starting the polymerization. The total content of these chain-transferable components (impurities) in trioxane is preferably 100 mass ppm or less, more preferably 50 mass ppm or less, and 30 mass ppm or less relative to trioxane. More preferred. The use of trioxane in which the content of these chain-transferable components (impurities) is within the above range tends to produce polyoxymethylene with excellent thermal stability.
<Cyclic ether>
The cyclic ether used in the present embodiment is not particularly limited as long as it can be polymerized using tin tetrachloride. Specific examples include ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxide, epichlorohydrin, epibromohydrin, styrene oxide, and oxetane. These may be used individually by 1 type, and may use 2 or more types together.
<Circular formal>
The cyclic formal used in the present embodiment is not particularly limited as long as it is polymerized using tin tetrachloride. Specific examples include 1,3-dioxolane, 1,3-dioxane, 1,3-dioxepane, 1,3-dioxocane, 1,3-dioxonane, 1,3,6-trioxocane and the like. These may be used individually by 1 type, and may use 2 or more types together.
<触媒液>
<Catalyst liquid>
The catalyst liquid in this embodiment contains tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst and an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent as a solvent.
The polymerization catalyst and solvent are described in detail below.
<Polymerization catalyst>
The catalyst liquid used in this embodiment contains tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst.
By using tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst, polyoxymethylene with a small amount of oligomers can be obtained.
In addition, the oligomer in the present embodiment refers to a component having a molecular weight of 10,000 or less in gel permeation chromatography (GPC).
<Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent>
The catalyst liquid in this embodiment contains an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent as a solvent.
It is preferable to use a mixture of tin tetrachloride and an inert aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. Specifically, it is preferable to use an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having 4 to 8 carbon atoms.
Tin tetrachloride has a high catalytic activity, and when used without being mixed with a solvent, polymerization often starts only at the portion where tin tetrachloride and trioxane come into contact with each other, resulting in precipitation of the polymer. By using tin tetrachloride mixed with an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, tin tetrachloride can be dispersed in trioxane before the polymerization starts, so that the polymerization reaction can be carried out uniformly, and The rapid precipitation of the polymer is suppressed, and the reaction proceeds with a high polymerization yield.
The aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent is not particularly limited as long as it does not adversely affect the polymerization. Examples include solvents such as pentane, isopentane, hexane, cyclohexane, heptane, and octane. From the point of view, cyclohexane and heptane are particularly preferred. These hydrocarbon solvents may be used singly or in combination of two or more.
<触媒液>
<Catalyst liquid>
The lower limit of tin tetrachloride concentration in the catalyst solution in the present embodiment is preferably 1 mmol/L or more, more preferably 5 mmol/L or more, still more preferably 10 mmol/L or more, and the upper limit is preferably 500 mmol/L or less. It is more preferably 100 mmol/L, still more preferably 50 mmol/L or less. If the concentration of the polymerization catalyst in the catalyst solution when added to the monomer is within the above range, the polymerization reaction can be carried out uniformly, the rapid precipitation of the polymer in some parts can be suppressed, and the polymerization yield can be high. Reaction proceeds.
<Amount of polymerization catalyst>
The amount of the polymerization catalyst added to the monomer is preferably in the range of 5.0×10 −6 to 1.0×10 −4 mol with respect to the total amount of trioxane, cyclic ether, and cyclic formal expressed in mol. , more preferably in the range of 1.0×10 −6 to 1.0×10 −4 mol, still more preferably in the range of 2.0×10 −5 to 1.0×10 −5 mol . When the monomer is continuously subjected to the polymerization reaction, it is preferable that the amount of the monomer supplied per unit time and the amount of the polymerization catalyst supplied per unit time are within the above ranges.
<Chain transfer agent>
In the polyoxymethylene polymerization of the present embodiment, a chain transfer agent may optionally be used for the purpose of molecular weight control.
For example, when polymerizing using a cationic catalyst containing tin tetrachloride or the like, a low molecular weight acetal represented by the following general formula can also be used.
R 1 O—(CH 2 —O) n —R 2
(In the formula, R 1 and R 2 represent any one selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, branched or linear alkyl groups, n represents an integer of 1 or more and 20 or less.)
In particular, by using an acetal having a molecular weight of 200 or less, preferably 60 to 170, the molecular weight of the finally obtained polyoxymethylene can be well adjusted.
Examples of the low-molecular-weight acetal represented by the above general formula include, but are not limited to, methylal, methoxymethylal, dimethoxymethylal, trimethoxymethylal, and the like. These may be used individually by 1 type, and may use 2 or more types together.
From the viewpoint of controlling the molecular weight of the target polyoxymethylene within a suitable range, the amount of the low-molecular-weight acetal to be added represented by the general formula is relative to the total amount of trioxane, cyclic ether, and cyclic formal expressed in mol. , preferably in the range of 0.1×10 −5 to 0.2×10 −2 mol, more preferably in the range of 0.1×10 −5 to 0.2×10 −3 mol, and 0.1×10 − A range of 5 to 0.1×10 −3 mol is more preferred.
The method for producing polyoxymethylene is cationic polymerization using tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst.
In addition, the production of polyoxymethylene according to the present embodiment can be performed by removing residual monomers after polymerization and deactivating the catalyst.
Moreover, in the production of polyoxymethylene of the present embodiment, a terminal stabilization step can be performed after polymerization.
<Polymerization process>
The polymerization step in the present embodiment is a step of polymerizing the above monomers using tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst.
When tin tetrachloride is used as a catalyst, polymerization proceeds by a so-called cationic polymerization reaction. In cationic polymerization, for example, polymerization can be performed by a bulk method using trioxane as a monomer.
The shape (structure) of the polymerization reactor to be used is not particularly limited, but in general, a twin-screw paddle type or screw type stirring and mixing polymerization reactor capable of passing a heat medium through the jacket is used. can be preferably used.
As a polymerization method, for example, a monomer containing trioxane, cyclic ether, cyclic formal, etc., a catalyst solution containing tin tetrachloride and an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, and an arbitrary chain transfer agent are supplied to a polymerization reactor, and polymerization is performed. There is a method to make
The polymerization reaction temperature may be a temperature higher than the melting point of the monomer used and lower than the boiling point. It is in the range of 120°C, more preferably in the range of 70-100°C.
The residence (reaction) time in the polymerization reactor is preferably 0.1 to 30 minutes, more preferably 0.1 to 25 minutes, still more preferably 0.1 to 20 minutes. It is also preferable to appropriately sample the polymer and set the residence (reaction) time to achieve the desired yield.
By adjusting the polymerization reaction temperature and the residence time in the polymerization reactor within the above ranges, thermal decomposition of polyoxymethylene can be more effectively suppressed, and thermally more stable polyoxymethylene can be produced. tend to be able.
After polymerization, residual monomers can be removed from the obtained polyoxymethylene and the catalyst can be deactivated. Conventionally proposed methods can be used for removal and deactivation. For example, only water can be used. Polyoxymethylene discharged from the polymerization reactor is added to an aqueous solution containing at least one deactivator such as alkaline earth metal hydroxides, inorganic salts, organic acid salts, etc. for several minutes to several hours. While continuously stirring in the range of room temperature to 100° C. or less, residual monomers and catalysts in the polyoxymethylene can be removed and deactivated. From the viewpoint of enhancing the cleaning removal efficiency of the catalyst, when the polyoxymethylene is in the form of large lumps, it is also preferable to pulverize the polyoxymethylene to make it finer.
Polyoxymethylene obtained by the above-described polymerization method often has a hydroxyl group terminal that is likely to initiate thermal decomposition. In such a case, for example, an organic acid anhydride and a hydroxyl group terminal are reacted to It can be stabilized, and polyoxymethylene can be heated before it is used as a product to decompose easily decomposable components/parts in advance.
<Terminal stabilization>
Polyoxymethylene homopolymers and copolymers obtained by polymerization often have thermally unstable end groups. Therefore, after deactivating the catalyst, this unstable terminal group is blocked by reacting with an esterifying agent or an etherifying agent in a liquid phase or a gas phase for stabilization, or in the case of a crude polyoxymethylene copolymer. is preferably stabilized by decomposing and removing an unstable terminal portion, which will be described later, from the standpoint of suppressing the decomposition of polyoxymethylene during melt processing.
For example, a case of stabilizing by reacting an organic acid anhydride with a hydroxy terminal is shown below.
In this embodiment, the organic acid anhydride is not particularly limited as long as it reacts with the unstable hydroxy group terminal of the crude polyoxymethylene. Specific examples include propionic anhydride, benzoic anhydride, acetic anhydride, succinic anhydride, maleic anhydride, glutaric anhydride, and phthalic anhydride. Among these, acetic anhydride and propionic anhydride, which become gas at a temperature not higher than the melting point of polyoxymethylene, are preferable from the viewpoint of easy removal by drying the polyoxymethylene at a high temperature after the reaction.
The reaction between the organic acid anhydride and the hydroxy terminal may be in the liquid phase or the gas phase. For example, polyoxymethylene obtained by polymerization is dispersed in an organic solvent inert to the hydroxy terminal of the polyoxymethylene and the organic acid anhydride. Alternatively, it may be dissolved and reacted with the organic acid anhydride, or the polyoxymethylene may be brought into contact with the gasified organic acid anhydride for reaction.
The reaction temperature, reaction time (contact time may be sufficient), and the amount of organic acid anhydride to be used can be determined arbitrarily.
The reactor is not particularly limited, and known reactors and dryers can be used. Examples thereof include stirred tanks, autoclaves, conical ribbon dryers, rotary dryers, paddle dryers, and the like. Any equipment necessary to carry out the reaction may be provided.
Further, for example, a case of stabilization by decomposition and removal of an unstable terminal portion will be described below.
The resulting polyoxymethylene copolymer may have a thermally unstable terminal [-(OCH 2 ) n -OH group] (hereinafter, such a polyoxymethylene copolymer is referred to as a "terminal-stabilized prior polyoxymethylene copolymers"). Therefore, it is preferable to carry out the decomposition removal treatment (terminal stabilization) of this unstable terminal portion using a decomposition treatment agent.
The decomposition treatment agent is not particularly limited, and may include ammonia, aliphatic amine compounds such as triethylamine and tributylamine, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium or barium, carbonates, and phosphorus. weak inorganic acid salts of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals, such as salts, silicates and borates, such as formates, acetates, stearates, palmitates, propionates and oxalates; and basic substances such as organic acid salts of alkali metals or alkaline earth metals. Among these, aliphatic amine compounds are preferred, and triethylamine is more preferred.

The analysis methods and evaluation methods used in Examples 1-2 and Comparative Examples 1-4 are as follows.
<Measurement of Weight Average Molecular Weight, Polydispersity Index (PDI), Content of Components in Low Molecular Weight Range>
For polyoxymethylene obtained in Examples and Comparative Examples, a GPC apparatus (HPLC8320) manufactured by Tosoh Corporation was used to measure the weight average molecular weight, polydispersity index (PDI), and the content of components in the low molecular weight region.
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoropropanol (HFIP) in which 0.4% by weight of sodium trifluoroacetate was dissolved was used as an eluent.
Polyoxymethylene was dissolved in the above eluent to prepare a sample solution with a concentration of 0.5 mg/mL.
As a column, 1 K-G4A manufactured by Shodex and 1 KF-606M manufactured by Shodex were connected in series, and the column was used after replacing the solvent with HFIP.
An RI (differential refraction) detector was used as the detector, the flow rate of the eluent was 0.3 mL/min, the column temperature was 40° C., and the injection volume of the sample solution was 60 μL.
Further, conversion from the elution time obtained by GPC measurement to the molecular weight was performed using a previously prepared calibration curve based on standard polymethyl methacrylate. All of the standard polymethyl methacrylates used are the following product numbers manufactured by Agilent.
Part numbers: PL2022-3001, PL2022-6001, PL2023-1001, PL2023-4001, PL2023-8001, PL2024-1001.
A calibration curve was created by injecting 60 μL of a solution dissolved in the above eluent so that each concentration would be 0.5 mg/mL. A cubic equation obtained by approximation by the method of least squares was used for the calibration curve.
The baseline was defined as a straight line connecting the point at which the elution time was 10 minutes and the point at which the elution time was 18 minutes. However, when the difference between the two points was 3% or more of the height of the main peak of the GPC curve, the measurement was repeated until it was less than 3%.
The content (%) of the component in the low molecular weight region was calculated by determining the ratio of the area of the region having a molecular weight of 500 or more and 10000 or less as determined by the calibration curve to the area above the baseline.

[Example 1]
A co-rotating twin-screw paddle type continuous polymerization reactor set at 80° C. (manufactured by Kurimoto, Ltd., diameter 2B, L/D=14.8) was used as the polymerization reaction apparatus. In order to prevent contamination with oxygen, 60 L of nitrogen per hour was flowed from the vicinity of the feed port of the polymerization reactor. Then, 3500 g/hr of trioxane was fed to the polymerization reactor. In addition, tin tetrachloride as a polymerization catalyst was mixed in advance using a mixed solution of cyclohexane and heptane as an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent so as to have a concentration of 26 mmol/L, and the polymerization amount was 0.2× with respect to 1 mol of trioxane. It was fed to the polymerization reactor so as to be 10 −4 mol.
The trioxane and the polymerization catalyst solution were supplied through separate lines so as not to come into contact with each other until reaching the paddle portion installed in the polymerization reactor.
After 30 minutes from initiation of the polymerization reaction, the polymerization yield was measured by the method described above. Table 1 shows the results.
After that, the polyoxymethylene discharged from the polymerization reactor was poured into water and stirred at room temperature for 1 hour to wash and remove the polymerization catalyst. The polyoxymethylene from which the polymerization catalyst was washed and removed was filtered with a centrifugal separator and then dried at 120° C. for 3 hours. Using the obtained polyoxymethylene, the weight average molecular weight and polydispersity were measured by the methods described above. Table 1 shows the results.
In Table 1, SnCl 4 is tin tetrachloride, BF 3 OEt 2 is boron trifluoride dibutyl ether complex, and the amount of catalyst at the start of polymerization is expressed in mol of trioxane, cyclic ether and cyclic formal at the start of polymerization. is the molar ratio of the amount of catalyst to the total amount of catalyst (number of moles of catalyst / number of moles of cyclic ether and cyclic formal), M w × 10 -4 is the value obtained by dividing the weight average molecular weight by 10000, PDI is polydispersity degree.
