Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a cathode for hydrogen generation.
In recent years, in order to solve problems such as global warming caused by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and reduction of fossil fuel reserves, technologies such as wind power generation and solar power generation using renewable energy have been attracting attention.
Renewable energies have the property of being extremely volatile because their output depends on climatic conditions. Therefore, it is not always possible to transport the electric power obtained from power generation by renewable energy to the general electric power system, and there are concerns about social impacts such as imbalance of electric power supply and demand and instability of the electric power system. There is.
Therefore, research is being conducted to replace the electric power generated from renewable energy with a form that can be stored and transported. Specifically, it has been considered to generate hydrogen that can be stored and transported by electrolysis (electrolysis) of water using electricity generated from renewable energy, and to use hydrogen as an energy source or a raw material. There is.
Hydrogen is widely used industrially in the fields of petroleum refining, chemical synthesis, metal refining, etc., and in recent years, it can be used in hydrogen stations for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), smart communities, hydrogen power plants, etc. The sex is also expanding. Therefore, there are high expectations for the development of technology for obtaining hydrogen from renewable energy.
Examples of water electrolysis methods include solid polymer type water electrolysis, high temperature steam electrolysis, and alkaline water electrolysis, which have been industrialized for more than several decades and can be carried out on a large scale. Alkaline water electrolysis is considered to be one of the most promising ones because it is cheaper than other water electrolyzers.
However, in order to adapt alkaline water electrolysis as a means for storing and transporting energy in the future, as described above, it is possible to efficiently and stably use electric power with large fluctuations in output to perform water electrolysis. It is necessary to solve various problems of electrolysis cells and devices for alkaline water electrolysis.
In order to solve the problem of improving the power intensity of hydrogen production by keeping the electrolytic voltage low in alkaline water electrolysis, the structure of the electrolytic cell, in particular, a structure in which the gap between the diaphragm and the electrode is substantially eliminated. It is well known that it is effective to adopt a structure called a zero gap structure (see Patent Documents 1 and 2). In the zero gap structure, the generated gas is quickly released through the pores of the electrode to the side opposite to the diaphragm side of the electrode, thereby reducing the distance between the electrodes and suppressing the generation of gas pools in the vicinity of the electrodes as much as possible for electrolysis. The voltage is suppressed low. The zero gap structure is extremely effective in suppressing the electrolytic voltage, and is used in various electrolytic devices.
In addition, many techniques for improving the durability of electrodes with respect to repeated energization and stopping of energization have been published (see Patent Documents 3 and 4).
Patent Document 3 discloses a cathode having a catalyst layer containing at least platinum (Pt) on the surface of a conductive base material containing nickel (Ni), and is said to have high back electroelectric resistance. For the cathode, a noble metal containing a large amount of platinum of 20 g / m 2 or more is used. From the viewpoint of high cost of using a large amount of precious metal containing platinum and resource conservation, it is preferable that the content of platinum is low.
However, in the conventional cathodes for alkaline water electrolysis described in
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a cathode for hydrogen generation in which the catalyst layer is peeled off from the conductive base material and the overvoltage is suppressed from rising when the energization is stopped.

According to the present invention, the dissolution of the surface of the conductive base material due to the reverse current when the energization is stopped is suppressed, and the peeling of the interface between the conductive base material and the catalyst layer is suppressed, so that the back electric durability is improved. A cathode for hydrogen generation can be provided.
Hereinafter, embodiments for carrying out the present invention (hereinafter, referred to as “the present embodiment”) will be described in detail. The present invention is not limited to the following embodiments, and can be variously modified and implemented within the scope of the gist thereof.
(Cathode for hydrogen generation)
In hydrogen production by alkaline water electrolysis in a multi-pole electrolytic cell, reduction of energy consumption, specifically, reduction of electrolysis voltage is a big issue. The performance of the cathode is important because this electrolytic voltage is highly dependent on the cathode.
In addition to the theoretically required voltage for electrolysis of water, the electrolytic voltage of alkaline water electrolysis is the overvoltage of the anode reaction (oxygen generation), the overvoltage of the cathode reaction (hydrogen generation), and the distance between the electrodes between the anode and the cathode. It is divided into voltage according to distance. Here, the overvoltage means a voltage that needs to be excessively applied beyond the theoretical decomposition potential when a certain current is passed, and the value depends on the current value. That is, when the same current is passed, the power consumption for obtaining the same amount of hydrogen generation can be further reduced by using an electrode having a low overvoltage.
In order to realize a low overvoltage, the requirements for the cathode include high conductivity, high hydrogen generation ability, high wettability of the electrolytic solution on the electrode surface, and the like. The inclusion of platinum in the cathode makes it possible to meet these requirements for a long period of time even when the electrolytic cell is operated under a variable power supply.
However, as described above, in the conventional cathode for alkaline water electrolysis, the base material is formed by repeating the positive energization for advancing the intended electrolytic reaction and the reverse current (reverse electric current) generated after the positive energization is stopped. The nickel component is eluted from the surface, the catalyst layer containing platinum on the surface of the base material falls off, and the overvoltage rises.
The hydrogen generating cathode of the present embodiment has a conductive base material and a catalyst layer on the surface of the conductive base material, and the catalyst layer is an insulator oxide containing at least platinum and crystalline zirconium. The conductive substrate contains a metal containing nickel, the peak intensity of X-rays diffracted by the (111) plane of nickel is INi, and the crystalline zirconium-containing insulator oxide. When the peak intensity of the X-ray diffracted by the (012) plane is IZrO 2 , the value of [IZrO 2 / INi] × 100 is 0.1 to 40%.
By having the above-mentioned characteristics, the cathode for hydrogen generation of the present embodiment prevents the elution of nickel from the conductive substrate, and is generated after the positive energization for advancing the intended electrolytic reaction and the positive energization for stopping the positive energization. By repeating energization of reverse current (reverse electric current), it is possible to prevent the catalyst layer from falling off and the overvoltage from rising, and an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium is applied to the catalyst layer. By including it, it is possible to provide an electrode having high durability even with a small amount of noble metal.
In the cathode for hydrogen generation of the present embodiment, the value of [IZrO 2 / INi] × 100, which represents the crystallinity of the insulator oxide containing zirconium, is from the viewpoint of suppressing the dissolution of Ni in the conductive substrate. , 0.1 to 40%, preferably 1 to 30%, more preferably 2 to 20%.
If the value of the crystallinity [IZrO 2 / INi] × 100 is more than 40%, the resistance of the cathode becomes high and it becomes difficult to obtain a desired overvoltage.
Further, when the value of the crystallinity [IZrO 2 / INi] × 100 is less than 0.1%, zirconium is not crystallized, so that the insulator oxide containing zirconium is in the process of electrolysis or when immersed in the electrolytic solution. Gradually dissolves over time. As a result, nickel is eluted from the surface of the base material by repeating the positive energization for advancing the intended electrolytic reaction and the energization of the reverse current (reverse electric current) generated after the positive energization is stopped, and the nickel is eluted on the surface of the base material. A certain catalyst layer tends to fall off and the overvoltage tends to rise.
In the cathode for hydrogen generation of the present embodiment, the value of the crystallinity [IZrO 2 / INi] × 100 is 0.1 to 40%, so that the insulator oxide containing zirconium is crystalline. The zirconium-containing insulator oxide may contain zirconium or may be zirconium oxide, and at least one selected from the group consisting of Zr and X element (X is Ce, Y, Ca, and Mg). It may be a composite oxide with a species).
Tetragonal crystals, monoclinic crystals, and cubic crystals are present as the crystals of zirconium oxide, but any crystal may be used as long as the above crystallinity is satisfied.
The peak intensity (INi) of X-rays diffracted by the (111) plane of nickel and the peak intensity (IZrO 2 ) of X-rays diffracted by the (012) plane of an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium. Is a value measured using an X-ray diffractometer, and specifically, can be measured by the method described in Examples described later.
The area used for electrolysis on the surface of the hydrogen generating cathode of the present embodiment measures the capacitance of the electric double layer formed at the interface between the cathode and the electrolytic solution (hereinafter, also referred to as “double layer capacitance”). By doing so, it can be obtained in a pseudo manner.
The double layer capacitance can be measured by, for example, the electrochemical impedance method. The double layer capacitance is calculated by analyzing the Core-Cole plot obtained by measuring the AC impedance with the real part and the imaginary part by the equivalent circuit fitting.
If the double layer capacitance is small, the number of reaction active sites is small, so that a sufficiently low overvoltage may not be obtained. On the other hand, if the amount of adhesion of the catalyst is increased too much in order to increase the double layer capacity, the mechanical strength of the catalyst layer may decrease, and the durability may decrease. Therefore, the double layer capacity of the hydrogen generating cathode of the present embodiment is preferably 0.001 to 0.2 F / cm 2 , more preferably 0.01 to 0.15 F / cm 2 , and even more preferably 0. It is 0.03 to 0.08 F / cm 2 .

[Catalyst layer]
The catalyst layer constituting the cathode for hydrogen generation of the present embodiment is formed on the surface of the conductive base material, and contains at least platinum and an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium.
Basis weight of the catalyst layer is preferably 2 to 40 g / m 2, more preferably from 4~20g / m 2, further preferably 6-10 g / m 2. When the basis weight of the catalyst layer is within the above range, elution of nickel components on the surface of the conductive substrate can be suppressed.
The average thickness of the catalyst layer is preferably 0.05 to 3.0 μm, more preferably 0.1 to 2.0 μm, and even more preferably 0.2 to 1.0 μm. When the average thickness of the catalyst layer is in the above range, it is possible to prevent the catalyst layer from falling off from the base material.
The range of the basis weight and the average thickness of the catalyst layer may be individually selected in order to preferably obtain the effects of the present invention.
Basis weight of the platinum contained in the catalyst layer, from the viewpoint of suitable mechanical strength and resource protection, is preferably 2.0~10.0g / m 2, in 3.0~9.0g / m 2 More preferably, it is more preferably 4.0 to 8.0 g / m 2 .
Basis weight of the insulation oxide containing crystalline zirconium contained in the catalyst layer, it is preferably 0.1~20.0g / m 2, a 0.3~10.0g / m 2 More preferably, it is 0.5 to 3.0 g / m 2. When the basis weight of the insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium is within the above range, the catalyst layer suppresses the elution of nickel from the conductive substrate due to back electric current and maintains a low overvoltage [/ tendency]. It is in].
The catalyst layer may include a zirconium layer containing an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium and a platinum layer containing platinum on the surface of the zirconium layer.
Further, the catalyst layer may include a mixed layer containing a mixture of platinum and an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium.
[[If a zirconium layer and a platinum layer are included]]
In one aspect, when the catalyst layer contains a zirconium layer containing an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium and a platinum layer containing platinum on the surface of the zirconium layer, the catalyst layer is other than the zirconium layer and the platinum layer. Although it may contain a layer of, it is preferably composed of a zirconium layer and a platinum layer.
The reason why excellent back electrolysis durability can be obtained by using a cathode containing a zirconium layer and a platinum layer in this way is not clear, but the zirconium layer coats the nickel surface of the conductive base material. Durability is greatly improved, nickel elution on the surface of the base material is suppressed, and positive energization to proceed the intended electrolytic reaction and reverse current (reverse electric) generated after stopping the positive energization are repeated. Even in this case, it is presumed that it has corrosion resistance and the corrosion reaction on the surface of the conductive substrate is suppressed.
In the above aspect, it is preferable that the basis weight of the zirconium layer is 0.1 g / m 2 or more and the basis weight of the platinum layer is 2.0 g / m 2 or more. When the basis weights of the zirconium layer and the platinum layer are in the above ranges, the nickel surface of the conductive base material is well coated by the zirconium layer and the platinum layer, so that the elution of nickel from the surface of the conductive base material is suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the catalyst layer on the surface of the base material from falling off or peeling off.
When the basis weight of the platinum layer is 2.0 g / m 2 or more, the entire conductive substrate can be coated with platinum, which is sufficient to maintain a low overvoltage even if the catalyst layer is depleted due to back electric current. The effect of ensuring a large amount of platinum can be obtained. If it is less than 2.0 g / m 2 , a portion where the conductive base material is exposed may occur, and a desired overvoltage may not be obtained.
On the other hand, if the weight of the platinum layer is increased too much, the mechanical strength is lowered and the catalyst layer is easily physically peeled off. Therefore, the basis weight of the platinum layer is preferably 10.0 g / m 2 or less.
Basis weight of the platinum layer is more preferably 3.0~9.0g / m 2, further preferably 4.0~8.0g / m 2.

On the other hand, if the weight of the zirconium layer is increased too much, it becomes a resistance component and a desired overvoltage cannot be obtained. Therefore, the basis weight of the zirconium layer is preferably 20.0 g / m 2 or less.
Basis weight of the zirconium layer is more preferably 0.3~10.0g / m 2, further preferably 0.5 to 3.0 g / m 2.
In the above embodiment, the average thickness of the zirconium layer is preferably 0.007 to 1.5 μm, more preferably 0.02 to 0.7 μm, and further preferably 0.03 to 0.3 μm. preferable. When the average thickness of the zirconium layer is in the above range, a zirconium layer with few cracks can be formed.
The average thickness of the platinum layer is preferably 0.06 μm or more from the viewpoint of covering the entire zirconium layer. If it is thinner than 0.06 μm, the zirconium layer is exposed and the overvoltage tends to be high.
Further, if the platinum layer is more than 2.0 μm, it becomes a resistance component and a desired overvoltage cannot be output. Therefore, it is preferably 2.0 μm or less.
The average thickness of the platinum layer is more preferably 0.1 to 1.0 μm, further preferably 0.15 to 0.5 μm, and even more preferably 0.17 to 0.4 μm. ..

[[When a mixed layer is included]]
In another aspect, when the catalyst layer contains a mixed layer containing a mixture of platinum and an insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium, the catalyst layer may include a layer other than the mixed layer, but is mixed. It preferably consists of only layers.
The reason why excellent back electrolysis durability can be obtained by using a cathode containing a zirconium layer and a platinum layer in this way is not clear, but platinum enters the gaps of the insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium. Since the conductive substrate is covered with a mixed layer having a dense structure in which platinum and crystalline zirconium are intricately entwined, the positive current for advancing the intended electrolytic reaction and the positive current after stopping the positive current. It is presumed that even when the generated reverse current (reverse electric current) is repeatedly energized, it has corrosion resistance and the corrosion reaction on the surface of the conductive base material is suppressed.
In the above embodiment, it is preferable that the basis weight of the insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium is 0.1 g / m 2 or more and the basis weight of platinum is 2.0 g / m 2 or more. When the amounts of the insulating oxide containing crystalline zirconium and platinum are in the above ranges, the nickel surface of the conductive substrate is satisfactorily coated with the insulating oxide containing crystalline zirconium and platinum. Therefore, the elution of nickel from the surface of the conductive base material is suppressed, and the detachment and peeling of the catalyst layer on the surface of the base material can be suppressed.

[Conductive substrate]
The conductive base material constituting the hydrogen generating cathode of the present embodiment contains a metal containing nickel because of its resistance to the usage environment.
The shape of the conductive base material is not particularly limited, and an appropriate shape can be selected depending on the purpose. Examples of the shape include punching metal, non-woven fabric, foamed metal, perforated metal foil, expanded metal, so-called mesh made by knitting a metal wire, and any of them can be used. Among them, a mesh having no corners or protrusions, a foamed metal, a punching metal, or the like is preferable from the viewpoint of exhibiting the above-mentioned effect of improving the reverse electric resistance. When the conductive base material has corners or protrusions such as expanded metal, the corners or protrusions become the starting point of interfacial peeling of the catalyst layer, so that the above effect is difficult to obtain.
When a mesh is used as the conductive base material, the dimensions are not particularly limited, but in order to achieve both an increase in the amount of gas generated due to an increase in the surface area of electrolysis and an efficient removal of gas generated by electrolysis from the electrode surface, the wire diameter Is preferably 0.05 to 1.0 mm and the pitch is preferably 20 to 60 mesh.
When a punching metal is used as the conductive base material, the dimensions are not particularly limited, but in order to achieve both an increase in the amount of gas generated due to an increase in the surface area of the electrolysis and an efficient removal of the gas generated by the electrolysis from the electrode surface. From the viewpoint of mechanical strength, the hole diameter is preferably 2 to 8 mm, the pitch is 2 to 10 mm, the aperture ratio is 20 to 80%, and the thickness is 0.5 to 2 mm.
As the plate material before being processed into punching metal, a rolled plate material, an electrolytic foil, or the like is preferable. It is preferable that the electrolytic foil is further plated with the same element as the base material as a post-treatment to make one side or both sides uneven.
The thickness of the conductive base material (gauge thickness) is not particularly limited, but good handling is obtained, it has good adhesion to diaphragms such as ion exchange membranes and microporous membranes, and feeders, and it is easy to handle. From the viewpoint of handling, it is preferably 300 μm or less, more preferably 100 μm or less, and further preferably 50 μm or less from the viewpoint of handleability and economy.

In the conductive base material, it is preferable to relax the residual stress during processing by annealing the conductive base material in an oxidizing atmosphere.
Further, it is preferable that the conductive base material is subjected to a treatment for increasing the surface area in order to improve the adhesion with the catalyst layer. Examples of the treatment for increasing the surface area include a blast treatment using a cut wire, a steel grid, an alumina grid, etc., an acid treatment using sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, a plating treatment using the same element as the base material, and the like.
The arithmetic mean surface roughness (Ra) of the substrate surface is not particularly limited, but is preferably 0.05 to 50 μm, more preferably 0.1 to 10 μm, and even more preferably 0.1 to 8 μm.
The arithmetic mean surface roughness (Ra) of the surface of the base material can be measured using a stylus type surface roughness measuring machine.
In addition to low overvoltage, the requirements for a cathode for hydrogen generation include corrosion of the cathode base material and catalyst layer, dropout of the catalyst layer, and electrolyte solution even when an unstable current such as renewable energy is used. It is difficult for the substance to dissolve and the inclusions to adhere to the diaphragm.
The hydrogen generating cathode of the present embodiment is preferably a porous body in order to increase the surface area used for electrolysis and to efficiently remove the gas generated by electrolysis from the electrode surface. In particular, in the case of a zero-gap electrolytic cell, since it is necessary to defoam the gas generated from the back side of the contact surface with the diaphragm, it is preferable that the surface located opposite to the surface in contact with the cathode membrane penetrates. ..
In addition to Pt and Zr, the surface of the cathode contains at least one platinum group element selected from the group consisting of ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), osmium (Os), and iridium (Ir). It may be covered with a containing layer. As a result, the overvoltage of the cathode can be further reduced. Pd and Ir are more preferable as the platinum group elements contained in the surface layer of the cathode.
[Manufacturing method of cathode for hydrogen generation]
As a method for producing a cathode for hydrogen generation of the present embodiment, that is, a method for forming a catalyst layer on a conductive base material, a spraying method such as a plating method or a plasma spraying method, or a precursor layer solution is applied on the base material. Examples thereof include a thermal decomposition method in which heat is applied after the process, a method in which a catalytic substance is mixed with a binder component and immobilized on a substrate, and a vacuum film forming method such as a sputtering method.
By using the pyrolysis method, a thin film having a uniform thickness can be formed on the porous substrate. Therefore, the surface of the base material can be efficiently coated with a small amount of raw material.
In the thermal decomposition method, a coating step of applying a coating liquid containing a catalyst to the surface of a base material, a step of forming a precursor layer in which the coating liquid is dried to form a precursor layer, and a base material having a precursor layer formed on the surface are used. It is preferable to include a firing step of thermally decomposing the precursor layer and forming a catalyst layer by heating.
Examples of the coating step include a method of applying a coating liquid containing a metal element to the surface of the base material.
Examples of the metal element include at least one platinum group element selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, and Ir, in addition to Pt and Zr. The form of the metal in the coating liquid is not particularly limited, and may be fine particles of a metal or a metal compound, or may be dissolved and ionized. In the case of the fine particle state, it is preferable that the precursor layer is dispersed in the liquid in order to form a homogeneous precursor layer. Therefore, the particle size is preferably 100 nm or less. When ionized, the metal salts include halide salts such as fluorides, chlorides, bromides and iodides, inorganic compound salts such as nitrates, sulfates and phosphates, and organic compound salts typified by acetates. Etc. can be exemplified. Of these, chlorides and nitrates are preferably used because the raw materials are industrially available. Further, nitrate is more preferable because the deterioration of the base material due to the anionic component remaining after decomposition is small and an electrode having good storage stability can be obtained.
The solvent of the solution may be one that dissolves a metal salt or the like as a solute. If a high-concentration solution can be prepared, the coating amount can be increased and the productivity can be increased. Therefore, it is preferable to contain at least one of water or an alcohol having 2 to 5 carbon atoms. If the concentration of metal salts in the solution is low, it takes a lot of energy to volatilize the solvent. On the other hand, if the concentration of the metal salt is high, unevenness may occur and the thickness of the catalyst layer may become non-uniform. Therefore, the concentration of the metal salt in the coating liquid used in the precursor forming step is preferably 0.001 to 1 mol / L, more preferably 0.01 to 0.5 mol / L.
In the coating step, various known methods can be used as a method of coating the coating liquid containing a metal element on the surface of the base material. For example, a dip method in which the base material is immersed in a liquid, a method in which the liquid material is applied to the base material with a brush, a roll method in which a liquid impregnated in a sponge-like roll is applied to the base material, and a coating liquid and the base material have opposite charges. Examples thereof include an electrostatic coating method in which an electric charge is applied and spraying is performed using a spray or the like. In particular, the roll method and the electrostatic coating method are preferably used from the viewpoint of productivity and the fact that the catalyst layer can be uniformly coated.
Prior to applying the coating liquid, the base material may be subjected to surface treatment for providing irregularities on the surface. If the surface of the base material is provided with irregularities, the adhesion between the base material and the catalyst layer is improved. The surface treatment method is not particularly limited, and examples thereof include blast treatment and etching using a chemical solution.
In the precursor layer forming step, the drying temperature at the time of drying the coating liquid applied to the surface of the base material to form the precursor layer is preferably 40 to 200 ° C, more preferably 60 to 150 ° C. be. The drying time is preferably 1 to 60 minutes, more preferably 5 to 30 minutes.
The firing temperature for forming the catalyst layer in the firing step may be equal to or higher than the thermal decomposition temperature of the metal salt used, but is preferably 300 ° C. or higher. This is because the thermal decomposition of many metal salts proceeds at 300 ° C. or higher. In order to allow the thermal decomposition to proceed satisfactorily and remove unreacted substances, the temperature is preferably 400 ° C. or higher, more preferably 500 ° C. or higher. When fired at a temperature higher than 1000 ° C., the base material may soften and deform, so 1000 ° C. or lower is preferable, 800 ° C. or lower, and even more preferably 600 ° C. or lower. The firing time is preferably 1 minute to 60 minutes, more preferably 5 minutes to 60 minutes, and even more preferably 5 minutes to 30 minutes.
It is preferable that the precursor layer forming step and the firing step are repeated a plurality of times. In order to form a catalyst layer having a desired thickness, the amount of liquid applied per application or the concentration of the metal salt in the coating liquid can be adjusted, but the amount of liquid applied per application and the metal in the coating liquid can be adjusted. If the concentration is too high, unevenness may occur and each layer may not be formed uniformly. Therefore, by repeating the precursor layer forming step and the firing step a plurality of times, a more uniform catalyst layer can be formed with a desired thickness. The number of repetitions is not particularly limited as long as a desired thickness can be obtained, but is preferably 5 to 30 times.
After repeating the precursor layer forming step and the firing step a plurality of times, the main firing step of firing at a high temperature equal to or higher than the temperature of the firing step may be included from the viewpoint of further improving the crystallinity. The main firing temperature is preferably 1000 ° C. or lower, more preferably 800 ° C. or lower. The main firing time is preferably 5 minutes to 24 hours, more preferably 30 minutes to 10 hours, and even more preferably 60 minutes to 5 hours.
The temperature and time ranges of the main firing may be individually selected in order to preferably obtain the effects of the present invention.

The measurement method and evaluation method used in Examples and Comparative Examples will be described below.
(Crystallinity)
An X-ray diffraction chart of the cathode was obtained using an X-ray diffractometer (RINT2000 type manufactured by Rigaku Co., Ltd.) under the measurement conditions of an excitation voltage of 40 kV, an excitation current of 200 mA, and an operating axis of 2θ / θ. After removing the peak derived from Kα rays in the X-ray diffraction chart using the X-ray diffraction analysis software "JADE", baseline correction is performed, and the peak intensity INi of the X-ray diffracted by the (111) plane of nickel, And the peak intensity IZrO 2 of the X-ray diffracted by the (012) plane of the insulator oxide containing crystalline zirconium was calculated. From the obtained INi and IZrO 2 , the crystallinity IZrO 2 / INi × 100 was determined.
BIB加工断面をSEM(日立ハイテクノロジーズ社製S−4800)で観察し、反射電子像(観察倍率:3000)を得た。
(Average thickness of catalyst layer)
After embedding the cathode with epoxy resin, a cross section was prepared by processing with an Ar ion beam (BIB processing). The BIB processed cross section was observed with an SEM (S-4800 manufactured by Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation) to obtain a reflected electron image (observation magnification: 3000).
Based on this reflected electron image, the average thickness of the catalyst layer was calculated by the following method using the image analysis software ImageJ. After filtering under the condition of Radius: 3.0 pxcels with a Median filter, a binarized image was created by the Max Entry method, and the area of the catalyst layer in the cross section perpendicular to the stacking direction of the catalyst layer was determined by image analysis. Separately, binarization is performed by the Otus method, hole filling treatment inside the catalyst layer is performed, edge extraction is performed, and the length of the interface line segment in the cross section of the embedding resin and the catalyst layer is calculated. Then, the catalyst layer thickness was calculated from the following definition formula.
Catalyst layer thickness (μm) = catalyst layer area (μm 2 ) / interface line segment length (μm)
For each cathode, the catalyst layer thickness was calculated at three points by the above method, and the average value was taken as the average thickness of the catalyst layer.
(Confirmation of mixed layer formation)
The cathode was cross-processed and measured at an acceleration voltage of 200 kV using a scanning transmission electron microscope (HD-2300A manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd.), and elemental analysis of the catalyst layer was performed. Elemental analysis was performed at 10 points, and the average value was calculated.
By determining the atomic ratio (oxygen: platinum: zirconium) of the catalyst layer, it is determined whether or not the mixed layer is formed, and if it is formed, it is "Yes", and if it is not formed, it is "No". bottom.
(Cathode overvoltage)
The cathode was cut out to a size of 2 cm × 2 cm and fixed to a nickel rod coated with PTFE with a nickel screw. A platinum mesh was used as the counter electrode, and electrolysis was performed at a current density of 0.6 A / cm 2 in a 32 wt% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution at 80 ° C., and the hydrogen overvoltage was measured. Hydrogen overvoltage was measured by the three-electrode method using the Luggin capillary to eliminate the effect of ohm loss due to liquid resistance. The distance between the tip of the Luggin capillary and the cathode was always fixed at 1 mm. As a hydrogen overvoltage measuring device, a potentiogalvanostat "1470E system" manufactured by Solartron was used. Silver-silver chloride (Ag / AgCl) was used as the reference electrode for the three-electrode method. The ohm loss that cannot be completely eliminated even by using the three-electrode method was measured by the AC impedance method, and the hydrogen overvoltage was corrected based on the measured value of the ohm loss. A frequency characteristic analyzer "1255B" manufactured by Solartron was used to measure the ohm loss.
(Double layer capacity)
An analysis is performed by equivalent circuit fitting on a Cole-Cole plot that plots the real part and the imaginary part obtained by AC impedance measurement using an impedance measuring device (frequency characteristic analyzer "1255B" manufactured by Solartron). , The double layer capacitance of the cathode was calculated.
The sweep potential of the potential is set to 4 points of 50, 100, 200, 400 mV / sec, the sweep potential range is set to -0.72- to -0.58 V, and the value of the current density of the potential of -0.5 V is read, and the value of the current density of the potential is read at 4 points. The double layer capacity (F / cm 2 ) was calculated from the slope using the minimum square method.
(Reverse power test 1)
Using the above three-electrode method, -1.25V vs. From Ag / AgCl + 0.2V vs. Cyclic voltammetry measurements were performed with a sweep width of Ag / AgCl. The potential sweep rate was 500 mV / sec. Starting from -1.25V, passing through + 0.2V, and reaching -1.25V again was defined as one cycle equivalent to reverse power. First, the overvoltage was measured before the reverse voltage test, and then the overvoltage was measured again after 10 cycles. After further 90 cycles, the overvoltage was measured and used as the overvoltage after 100 cycles in total. The same operation was performed, and the overvoltage after a total of 100, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 5000, and 10000 cycles was measured.
These results are plotted as the total number of cycles on the horizontal axis and the overvoltage on the vertical axis, and the approximate lines of several plot points from the start of the overvoltage increase to the end of the increase are taken, and the total cycle in which the overvoltage becomes 150 mV on the approximate line. The number of times was calculated and used as an index of reverse electric resistance.
In addition, the overvoltage after 10,000 cycles in total was also used as an index of reverse voltage resistance.

In the external header type electrolytic cell (not shown), external pipes (anode inlet header 10ai, cathode inlet header 10ci, anode outlet header 10ao, etc.) for flowing the electrolytic solution in the electrolytic frame that is the housing of the bipolar element, Cathode outlet header 10co) is provided at four locations. Each of these external pipes is connected to each electrode chamber of the electrolytic cell by an external hose.
These piping structures are called external header structures. The external header pipe is divided into a cathode side external header pipe and an anode side external header pipe.
Therefore, in each element, the electrolytic solution enters the cathode chamber 5c from the cathode inlet header 10ci via the external hose, and flows from the cathode chamber 5c to the cathode outlet header 10co via the external hose. Similarly, on the anode side, the electrolytic solution enters the anode chamber 5a from the anode inlet header 10ai via the external hose, and flows from the anode chamber 5a to the anode outlet header 10ao via the external hose. Since the input header of the external header is on the lower side of the electrolytic frame and the outgoing header is on the upper side of the electrolytic frame, the electrolytic solution flows from the bottom to the top. In addition, it rises in a direction substantially perpendicular to the electrode surface. A thermocouple is installed in the external hose of each cell, and the temperature difference before and after passing through the element can be measured.
In this example, since there are nine anode chambers 5a and nine cathode chambers 5c each, the structure is such that the electrolytic solution flows from the inlet header to the outlet header in each of the nine chambers.
In the cathode chamber 5c, hydrogen gas is generated by electrolysis, and oxygen gas is generated in the anode chamber 5a. Therefore, the cathode outlet header 10co has a mixed phase flow of the electrolytic solution and the hydrogen gas, and the anode outlet header 10ao has the electrolytic solution and oxygen. It becomes a mixed phase flow of gas.

− Electrolysis test 1-
Using the above-mentioned
The voltage resistance of each cell of Example 2-1 and Comparative Example 2-1 and Comparative Example 2-2 was monitored, and the transition of the voltage resistance was recorded. Of these, since it is difficult for reverse current to be generated in the cell including the
As shown in Table 2, in Example 2-1 the average three-cell voltage after 1500 cycles was 1.80 V, which was 30 mV higher than the initial voltage, whereas in Comparative Example 2-1 with respect to the initial value. 240 mV vs. voltage increased. In Comparative Example 2-2, the voltage vs. 260 mV was larger than the initial value. This means that even when the reverse voltage was applied, the low overvoltage of Example 2-1 was maintained for a longer period of time than that of Comparative Example 2-1 and Comparative Example 2-2.
In this test, the continuous energization time per cycle (elapsed time of electrolytic potential) was longer than that of the three-electrode cell test (Examples 1 to 11 and Comparative Examples 1 to 10), so that the cells were accumulated in the anode. A large amount of charge and a large amount of reverse current flow. As a result, the deterioration of the cathode due to the reverse electric cycle occurs more remarkably, and the overvoltage tends to rise faster. The increase in the cell voltage is a difference in the degree of reverse electric deterioration of each cathode, that is, the cathode of Example 2-1 has a higher reverse electric resistance than that of Comparative Example 2-1 and Comparative Example 2-2. Therefore, it can be concluded that it contributed to the low cell voltage for a long period of time.
According to the cathode for hydrogen generation of the present invention, in the bipolar electrolysis cell for alkaline water electrolysis having a zero gap structure, the dissolution of the surface of the conductive base material due to the reverse current when the energization is stopped is suppressed, and the conductive base material can be used. By suppressing the peeling of the interface with the catalyst layer, it is possible to maintain high energy conversion efficiency for a long period of time without increasing the overvoltage.
