Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a hydrogen generator.
Conventionally, nickel is known as a catalyst metal used for hydrogen gas production by direct methane decomposition, but it is supported on silica in order to prevent aggregation of nickel fine particles due to sintering during a high temperature reaction of direct methane decomposition. (
However, in the case of the carrier method, there is a problem that the carbon produced during methane decomposition physically covers the active site of the catalyst and is deactivated in a short time.
Various proposals have been made since the latter half of the 2000s to avoid deactivation of nickel catalysts. For example, in a device that uses a fluidized nickel catalyst, a nanocarbon discharge path is provided on the side wall of the fluidized bed reactor so that it overflows from the nanocarbon discharge path, and the one mixed in the exhaust gas is separated by a cyclone. (Patent Document 6), a method of stirring a mixture of a catalyst and the produced ultrafine carbon powder using a screw feeder has been proposed (Patent Document 7). However, in any of the devices using these fluid nickel catalysts, the fluidized catalyst and the produced carbon are discharged in a mixed state, and the separation step between the nickel catalyst and the produced carbon has not been studied.
In addition, the catalyst is filled on the catalyst shelves provided in multiple stages inside the reactor, and the catalyst is vibrated and rubbed while rotating the catalyst shelf during the reaction to shake off the carbon adhering to the catalyst directly below. , A method of recovering carbon and regenerating a catalyst (Patent Document 8) has been proposed. However, in a reaction furnace heated to a high temperature, it is not realistic to rotate the catalyst shelf in the furnace via a motor provided outside the furnace while maintaining airtightness.
The above are all documents that employ a fluidized bed reactor, but even in a fixed bed reactor, precipitation occurs by intermittently supplying hydrocarbons and water supplied to the reactor and at the same time generating low-temperature plasma. It has been proposed that the produced carbon is peeled off from the surface of the catalyst before it grows for a long time (Patent Document 9). However, in this document, it is the large particle size particles of 5 to 30 mm that are used for the fixed bed, and there is no mention of what the material is, not the structure.
In addition, for example, by coexisting a low-concentration coexisting gas such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, water, and hydrogen with a lower hydrocarbon and subjecting it to the reaction, a functional nano generated on the catalyst by the reaction of the lower hydrocarbon A method of selectively reacting carbon precursors and amorphous carbon as a by-product to gasify and remove it from the catalyst (Patent Document 10), work efficiency and energy without the need for operation interruption for catalyst refilling, etc. For the purpose of highly efficient continuous operation, a method has been proposed in which a catalyst powder is flowed in a parallel flow in a reaction tube together with a lower hydrocarbon gas, and the catalyst powder having carbon precipitation is recovered together with a decomposition product gas (Patent Document 11). .. However, in the former method, the appropriate concentration range of the coexisting gas depends on various factors, so it is difficult to determine and control it. Not only is it unsuitable for such purposes, but there is still room for consideration in the specific device configuration of the catalyst sorting device. In addition, since power is required to continuously operate the catalyst separation device such as a cyclone, the maintenance cost becomes remarkably high.
Although various efforts have been made as described above, a technique for stably producing hydrogen for a long period of time while preventing catalyst deactivation has not yet been established in an apparatus using a direct decomposition reaction of methane. If such technology matures, there will be demand for hydrogen such as heat utilization by boiler combustion of hydrogen mixed gas, heat and power generation utilization by combustion in gas turbines, on-site small and medium-sized hydrogen stations, and solid oxide fuel cells. As it expands, it is expected to become more important in the future.
In view of the above situation, the present invention provides an apparatus suitable for continuously and stably producing hydrogen by utilizing a direct decomposition reaction of a hydrocarbon such as methane.
One aspect of the present invention made to achieve the above object is a hydrogen generating apparatus for flowing a reaction gas in a predetermined direction in a reaction chamber containing a plurality of nickel-based metal structures, and at least a specific one. A hydrogen generator in which two adjacent nickel-based metal structures are arranged in the same direction and curved with the same curvature when viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the predetermined direction. According to this configuration, the apparent surface area of the catalyst plate is increased, and the gas flows vertically downward at a uniform flow rate without causing unevenness in the flow rate of the gas between two specific adjacent nickel-based metal structures. Therefore, it is particularly useful as a continuous reactor.
According to the present invention, it is possible to obtain an apparatus suitable for continuously and stably producing hydrogen by utilizing a direct decomposition reaction of a hydrocarbon such as methane.

The method for producing a nickel-based metal structure as described above includes a step of subjecting the original structure to thermal spraying, porous plating, nickel plating and / or blasting. Then, if appropriate blasting is performed, a nickel-based metal structure having a porous surface can be produced. On the other hand, if the original structure is made of a nickel-based metal, a nickel-based metal structure having a porous surface can be produced by performing blasting. The nickel plating process may be electrolyzed or electroless, and the conditions thereof are appropriately set by those skilled in the art according to a desired thickness and surface roughness. If the original structure is a nickel-aluminum alloy, a method of alkali dissolution treatment can also be adopted.
The original structure is generally a nickel-based metal structure or a non-nickel-based metal structure, but may be a core material that is removed in a later step. For example, a nickel-based metal foam can be produced by using urethane foam or the like as a core material, forming a nickel layer on the foam surface by electrolytic plating or the like, and then removing the urethane foam as the core material by firing. ..

In the direct decomposition reaction of (Step 2-1), if the reaction gas or the like can be introduced into the apparatus at a sufficient pressure, it is not always necessary to block the gas flow from the inside to the outside of the apparatus. It is preferable to block it. The gas flow can be blocked by closing the on-off
"A state in which the air pressure inside the device is relatively higher than the air pressure outside the device" generally means a pressure difference of +0.01 MPa to +0.5 MPa, preferably +0.01 MPa to +0.2 MPa. It is preferably +0.02 MPa to +0.1 MPa, more preferably +0.03 MPa to +0.08 MPa. The above-mentioned pressure difference can be realized by lowering the air pressure outside the device and / or increasing the air pressure inside the device by adjusting the supply pressure of the gas as a reactant and the amount of the gas as a product. ..
"A blow caused by a change in atmospheric pressure as a direct or indirect factor" means either a blow by the change in atmospheric pressure itself or a blow through an object moving by the mechanical action of the change in atmospheric pressure.

FIG. 8A shows a detailed structure of the
The
FIG. 7B shows a state in which 30 plate-shaped nickel-based

(Example 1-Development of prototype hydrogen generator T7 and 2-day catalyst-free temperature rise test)
A cylinder with a reaction compartment volume of about 30 L, which has the same configuration as the hydrogen generator shown in FIG. 1 except that a catalyst is not arranged, and is surrounded by a heater coated with a ceramic cylindrical heat insulating material. While introducing methane into the furnace at a pressure of 0.14 MPa and a flow rate of 3.0 L / min, the temperature of the device was raised, and the thermocouples 1-A-2 and 1-A- installed at the two locations shown in FIG. Gas heat conduction type gas analyzer 1-A-10 (part number KD-12C-T1, zero gas: 100% clean air, span gas: 100% hydrogen, zero point unadjusted, new Cosmos Electric Co., Ltd. Was attached to a pipe that releases to the atmosphere and measured. Here, the concentration of hydrogen gas was measured after lowering the generated hydrogen gas to room temperature, but the gas analyzer 1-A-10 does not measure the hydrogen concentration in methane gas, but measures the hydrogen concentration in air. Since it was measured, the initial value was large, and FIG. 3 was created with the value obtained by subtracting the background. The direct decomposition reaction of methane is an endothermic reaction with a reaction Gibbs free energy ΔGr = 50.8 kJ / mol and an equilibrium constant K = exp (-50.8 / RT) = 0.998 at 900 ° C. Therefore, according to Le Chatelier's principle, when heated, the decomposition reaction proceeds even without a catalyst.
As shown in FIG. 3 and the raw data in Tables 1 to 3 below, the heater control temperature 1-A-6 and the catalyst surface temperature 1-A-2 reached approximately 870 ° C. in about 5 hours from the start of heating the apparatus. After that, it was kept almost constant for about 3 hours. During that time, it was measured with a gas heat conduction type gas analyzer 1-A-10, and it was found that it was stable and maintained at about 16%. It is inferred that the produced carbon acts as a catalyst. Furthermore, film-like produced carbon was deposited in the furnace.
(Example 2-heat temperature test using a nickel porous body)
A temperature rise experiment was carried out under the same conditions as in Example 1 except that the hydrogen generator T7 in which the nickel porous body was provided along the inner wall of the reaction furnace was used. After the heater temperature reached about 960 ° C. in 4 hours from the start of the experiment, the temperature was lowered to about 870 ° C. and held for 2 hours, and kept at about 800 ° C. for 3 hours. The reason why the hydrogen concentration is almost 0 for the first time is that the generated gas is released to the atmosphere, so methane is only released into the atmosphere until the temperature of the reactor rises to some extent. This is because the release valve was closed. The results are shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 4, the nickel porous body is surprisingly over 9 hours or more as compared with the nickel particle supporting method which has been conventionally performed to increase the exposed surface area in the heterogeneous reaction involving nickel. It was found that the activity can be stably maintained. Further, the hydrogen concentration gradually decreased by lowering the heater temperature, but the value of about 30% could be maintained even at 800 ° C. The cause of this is not clear, but it is considered that the produced carbon itself acted as a catalyst, or that the produced carbon did not block the pores of the carrier supporting the catalyst.
(Example 3-Continuous temperature rise experiment using nickel permalloy 3)
Using nickel permalloy (Permalloy B, YFN-45-R, manufactured by DOWA Metal Co., Ltd.), a temperature rise experiment was conducted under the same conditions as in Example 3. As a result, compared to the case of using a nickel porous body, the hydrogen concentration up to a heater temperature of about 825 ° C. and the stability at a heater temperature of 950 ° C. (catalyst surface temperature of 900 ° C.) are somewhat inferior. As shown in FIG. 11, it was demonstrated that continuous operation is possible for a long period of 16 days at 800 ° C.
It should be noted that the embodiments of the present invention are not limited to the above-described embodiments, and not all of the configurations described in the above-described embodiments are essential requirements of the present invention. The present invention may take various forms such as modifications as long as it belongs to the technical scope, as long as it does not deviate from the technical idea. For example, in the above embodiment, both ends of the nickel-based metal structure are opened in consideration of the fact that the methane gas is gradually filled from the upper part to the lower part of the reaction vessel and that the generated carbon falls due to gravity and separates from the catalyst. The shape is cylindrical and the position in the reactor is arranged along the inner peripheral wall of the reactor, but instead, a flat catalyst can be erected or hung in parallel in the reaction compartment. Further, the
The hydrogen generator of the present invention is provided with a device for increasing the purity of hydrogen contained in the produced gas at the subsequent stage, so that hydrogen can be supplied to a fuel cell vehicle equipped with a polymer electrolyte fuel cell [PEFC] through an on-site station or the like. It is suitably applicable to supply.
In recent years, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), which can directly use methane by utilizing urban gas infrastructure in addition to hydrogen, have been attracting attention. In SOFC, the problems of carbon precipitation on the surface of metallic nickel due to the thermal decomposition reaction of methane and the deterioration of performance due to the inhibitory action of the electrode reaction due to the adsorption of produced CO on the surface of metallic nickel have been recognized (Sato et al., " From the viewpoint of fuel cell / methane utilization technology ”, J. Plasma Fusion Res. Vol. 87, No. 1 (2011) pp. 36-41), the hydrogen generator of the present invention as a fuel reformer to be arranged in the preceding stage. Is expected to lead to reduction of precipitated carbon in SOFC and extension of life.
