Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, and more particularly to an electrophotographic image forming apparatus capable of reducing lubricant memory while suppressing the occurrence of filming and image flow under durable conditions.
In recent years, a photoconductor with a long life has been demanded from the viewpoint of environmental friendliness and cost. In order to extend the life of the photoconductor, the amount of scraping of the photoconductor must be reduced, but if the amount of scraping is too small, a problem of image flow occurs.
Therefore, in order to achieve both a long life of the photoconductor and an image flow, a technique of adding a thermoplastic resin and inorganic fine particles to the protective layer of the photoconductor is generally known.
Generally, in the electrophotographic process, the toner remaining on the photoconductor is cleaned with a cleaning blade after image formation. However, if the releasability between the photoconductor and the toner is poor, cleaning failure occurs and the toner adheres to the photoconductor. It causes a phenomenon called filming, which causes a problem of causing noise in the output image.
In order to solve this problem, in the prior art, there is known a technique of reducing filming by supplying zinc stearate to the photoconductor to improve the releasability of the photoconductor and the toner (for example, patent). See Reference 1.). However, in order to further improve the characteristics, by dispersing inorganic fine particles surface-modified with a surface modifier having a silicone structure on the surface of the photoconductor, the releasability of the photoconductor and the toner is improved from the initial stage under durable conditions. We have developed technologies to reduce filming.
However, a new problem of lubricant memory has arisen due to the difference in the amount of zinc stearate deposited on the photoconductor. This is because when a plurality of print documents having different print densities in the horizontal axis direction are printed, a difference in the surface potential of the photoconductor occurs due to a difference in the amount of zinc stearate deposited on the photoconductor, and a half image of the entire surface is projected. Occasionally, it is a phenomenon in which shading occurs in an image.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems and situations, and the problem to be solved is an electrophotographic image capable of reducing lubricant memory while suppressing the occurrence of filming and image flow under durable conditions.
According to the above means of the present invention, it is possible to provide an electrophotographic image forming apparatus capable of reducing the lubricant memory while suppressing the occurrence of filming and image flow under durable conditions.
Although the mechanism of expression or mechanism of action of the effects of the present invention has not been clarified, it is inferred as follows.
In the case of an image forming process in which a lubricant rod made of zinc stearate is brought into contact with a photoconductor to supply zinc stearate to a protective layer containing inorganic fine particles surface-modified with a surface modifier, for example, as shown in the upper part of FIG. When a plurality of originals having different image densities are printed, the amount of zinc stearate attached to the portion C1 having a high original density is small, and the amount of zinc stearate is attached to the portion C2 having a low original density. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 2, when the developer of the developing sleeve and the surface of the photoconductor are rubbed against each other, the portion C1 having a high original density has a small amount of zinc stearate and is affected by the surface modifier contained in the
On the other hand, when
In the present invention, when a plurality of printed originals having different print densities are printed in the horizontal axis direction, the lubricant memory has a difference in the surface potential of the photoconductor due to the difference in the amount of zinc stearate deposited on the photoconductor. This is a phenomenon in which shading occurs in an image when a full-page half image is printed.

When both the silicone surface modification and the reactive surface modification are performed, it is preferable to perform the silicone surface modification after the reactive surface modification.

As a brush roller as a removing member, for example, a pile woven fabric in which a bundle of fibers is woven into a base fabric as a pile yarn is made into a ribbon-shaped fabric, and the raised surface is turned outward and spirally wound around a metal shaft. Examples include glued ones. In the brush roller of this example, a long woven fabric in which resin brush fibers such as polyester are planted at a high density is formed on the peripheral surface of a metal shaft.
As for the brush bristles, a straight bristles type in which the brush bristles are raised perpendicular to the metal shaft is preferable from the viewpoint of removal ability. In addition, by setting the planting density of the brush fibers in the range of 40,000 to 500,000 fibers / square inch (40 to 500 kF / inch 2 ), the rigidity required for removal is ensured and the parts sparse to the brush bristles are secured. It is possible to prevent uneven removal of the lubricant without making. The electrical resistivity of the brush fiber is preferably 1 × 10 7 Ω or less, and the Young's modulus of the brush fiber is preferably 1500 to 9800 N / mm 2 . The amount of the brush roller biting into the photoconductor is preferably 0.5 to 1.5 mm. The rotation speed of the brush roller is, for example, 0.3 to 1.5 in terms of the photoconductor speed ratio, and may be the rotation in the same direction as the rotation direction of the photoconductor or the rotation in the opposite direction.

Here, the lubricant abundance ratio refers to the degree to which the lubricant is present per unit area of the surface of the photoconductor. In the present invention, the abundance ratio of the metal derived from the fatty acid metal salt constituting the lubricant on the surface of the photoconductor measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA) is used as an alternative amount. Since the ratio of the fatty acid metal salt and the boron nitride in the lubricant is considered to be substantially constant over time, the abundance ratio of the metal derived from the fatty acid metal salt can be used as an alternative amount to the lubricant abundance ratio for the entire lubricant. .. The unit is "atm%". The selective elements to be detected are (1) elements of the crosslinked polymer (C, O, etc.) constituting the protective layer, (2) metal oxides (for example, Sn, etc.), and (3) fatty acid metal supplied to the surface of the photoconductor. A metal derived from a salt (for example, Zn, Al, etc.) is used. Regarding these selective elements, it is necessary to extract all the elements that can be present on the surface of the photoconductor, depending on the type of material constituting the protective layer and the type of lubricant used. From the viewpoint of detectability, in order to differentiate the metal derived from the metal oxide contained in the protective layer from the metal derived from the fatty acid metal salt, the metal oxide used and the metal derived from the fatty acid metal salt are used. Select a different type.

[Evaluation]
The evaluation machine was a modified bizhub C658 (manufactured by Konica Minolta KK), and as shown in FIG. 5, an experiment was conducted with a modified machine so that the lubricant can be supplied by bringing the lubricant rod into contact with the photoconductor. Specifically, an image was formed by the combination of the photoconductor and the lubricant rod shown in the table below.
[Filming]
The evaluation machine used was a modified machine of the bizhub C658 (manufactured by Konica Minolta), and the evaluation photoconductor was mounted at the Bk position at 30 ° C. and 80% RH (NN environment), and 5000 sheets were printed on a 5% print chart. Durability test was carried out.
After the durability test, the surface of the photoconductor was observed with a microscope, and the number of deposits derived from the developer in a field of view of 20 mm × 40 mm was measured. As a result of the measurement, it was evaluated according to the following criteria, and it was judged that there was no problem in quality of R5 to R3.
(Standard)
R5: 1 or less deposits R4: 5 or less deposits R3: 5 or more and less than 11 deposits R2: 11 or more and less than 30 deposits R1: 30 or more deposits
In a high temperature and high humidity environment (
"R5" if recovered within the 1st sheet, "R4" if recovered within the 3rd sheet, "R3" if recovered within the 7th sheet, "R2" if recovered within the 20th sheet , The case of recovery after the 21st sheet was evaluated as "R1". It should be noted that the 7th sheet is used as the standard because the rotation speed of the photoconductor in the image stabilization performed when the device is started up is equivalent to the 7th sheet of A3 paper. If so, it is considered that image deterioration due to image flow does not occur from the first printing. It was judged that R5 to R3 had no problem in quality.
[Glidant memory]
In a high-temperature and high-humidity environment (
(Standard)
R5: Less than 0.1 R4: 0.1 or more and less than 0.2 R3: 0.2 or more and less than 0.3 R2: 0.3 or more and less than 0.5 R1: 0.5 or more
From the results shown in Table I, it can be seen that the present invention is superior in terms of filming characteristics, image flow and lubricant memory characteristics as compared with Comparative Examples.
