Description

The present invention relates to a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.

2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, with the spread of portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and notebook computers, it has been required to develop a small and lightweight non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high energy density. Further, as a battery for an electric vehicle such as a hybrid vehicle, development of a high output non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is required. There is a lithium ion secondary battery as a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that satisfies such requirements. A lithium-ion secondary battery is composed of a negative electrode, a positive electrode, an electrolytic solution, etc., and a material capable of desorbing and inserting lithium ions is used as an active material of the negative electrode and the positive electrode.

Research and development of lithium ion secondary batteries are currently being actively conducted. Among them, a lithium ion secondary battery using a layered or spinel type lithium metal composite oxide as a positive electrode active material can obtain a high voltage of 4V class, and thus is being put to practical use as a battery having a high energy density. The lithium metal composite oxides that have been mainly proposed so far include a lithium cobalt composite oxide (for example, LiCoO 2 ) that is relatively easy to synthesize, and a lithium nickel composite oxide that uses nickel that is cheaper than cobalt ( Examples thereof include LiNiO 2 ), lithium nickel cobalt manganese composite oxide (for example, LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 ), lithium manganese composite oxide (for example, LiMn 2 O 4 ), and the like.

Batteries using lithium cobalt composite oxide as a positive electrode active material have been extensively developed so far to obtain excellent initial capacity characteristics and cycle characteristics, and various results have already been obtained. However, the lithium cobalt composite oxide uses an expensive cobalt compound as a raw material. For this reason, the lithium cobalt composite oxide has a unit price per capacity of a battery using the lithium cobalt composite oxide, which is significantly higher than that of a nickel hydrogen battery, and the applications applicable as a positive electrode active material are considerably limited. Therefore, not only for small secondary batteries for mobile devices, but also for large secondary batteries for power storage and electric vehicles, the cost of the positive electrode active material can be reduced to produce a cheaper lithium-ion secondary battery. There are great expectations for what is possible, and it can be said that its realization has great industrial significance.

The lithium-nickel composite oxide using nickel, which is cheaper than cobalt, has a lower electrochemical potential than the lithium-cobalt composite oxide, and thus decomposition due to oxidation of the electrolytic solution is unlikely to occur, and higher capacity can be expected, Further, since it has a high battery voltage as in the case of the cobalt type, it is being actively developed. However, the lithium nickel composite oxide synthesized purely with nickel is inferior in cycle characteristics to a cobalt-based lithium ion secondary battery when it is manufactured as a positive electrode active material, and it is used and stored in a high temperature environment. Therefore, there is a drawback that the battery performance is relatively easily deteriorated. Therefore, for example, as disclosed in Patent Document 1, a lithium nickel composite oxide in which a part of nickel is replaced with cobalt or aluminum is generally known.

As a general method for producing a lithium nickel composite oxide that is a positive electrode active material, a nickel composite hydroxide that is a precursor is prepared by a neutralization crystallization method, and the precursor is used as a lithium compound such as lithium hydroxide. A method of mixing and firing to obtain a lithium nickel composite oxide is known. However, unreacted lithium hydroxide, lithium carbonate produced by carbonation of unreacted lithium hydroxide, and lithium sulfate produced from impurities derived from raw materials remain in the lithium nickel composite oxide synthesized by this method. ing.

The unreacted lithium hydroxide causes gelation of the positive electrode mixture paste when the positive electrode active material is kneaded with the positive electrode mixture paste. Further, the unreacted lithium hydroxide also becomes a factor that causes oxidative decomposition of lithium hydroxide and gas generation when the positive electrode active material is charged in a high temperature environment. On the other hand, since lithium sulfate generated from impurities derived from the raw materials does not contribute to the charge/discharge reaction, when constructing the battery, it is inevitable to use the negative electrode material for the battery in an extra amount corresponding to the irreversible capacity of the positive electrode active material. As a result, the capacity per unit weight and volume of the battery as a whole becomes small, and the extra lithium accumulated in the negative electrode as an irreversible capacity poses a problem in terms of safety.

Therefore, according to Patent Document 2, a method has been proposed in which natural water is added to the synthesized lithium nickel composite oxide and the mixture is stirred to remove lithium hydroxide, lithium sulfate and the like (hereinafter collectively referred to as a lithium salt). There is. However, in the positive electrode active material obtained by this method, lithium ions near the surface of the lithium nickel composite oxide are lost during washing with water. Therefore, there is a problem that the weather resistance is lowered, and when the positive electrode active material is handled in an atmospheric atmosphere containing normal moisture and carbon dioxide, lithium ions are extracted from the inside of the crystal, and the capacity is reduced when the battery is formed. ..

Therefore, according to Patent Document 3, the synthesized lithium nickel composite oxide is heated to an ambient temperature of 150° C. or lower in an atmosphere having a CO 2 concentration of 0.1 vol% or higher and a dew point of −15° C. or lower. As such, there has been proposed a method in which the lithium hydroxide remaining in the lithium-nickel composite oxide is carbonized to form lithium carbonate to improve the storage characteristics in a high temperature environment. However, it is difficult to sufficiently remove the unreacted lithium hydroxide by this method, and further, the removal of lithium sulfate is not described.

In order to solve the above problems, the present inventors have conducted extensive studies on a lithium metal composite oxide used as a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and a method for producing the same, and as a result, a lithium nickel composite oxide. A non-aqueous system having a lithium carbonate content of 0.55% by mass or more and 1.0% by mass or less, a lithium hydroxide content of 0.2% by mass or less, and a sulfate group content of 0.05% by mass or less. Provided is a positive electrode active material for an electrolyte secondary battery.

1. Method for Manufacturing Positive Electrode Active Material for Non-Aqueous Electrolyte Secondary Battery Hereinafter, an example of an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing a method for producing a positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to this embodiment. In addition, the following description is an example of a manufacturing method, and does not limit the manufacturing method of the present invention.

粉末は、一般式LiNi1−x−yCo(ただし、0≦x≦0.35、0≦y≦0.10、0.95≦z≦1.10、Mは、Mn、V、Mg、Mo、Nb、TiおよびAlから選ばれる少なくとも1種の元素)で表されるリチウムニッケル複合酸化物からなる。 As shown in FIG. 1, powder of lithium nickel composite oxide is washed with an aqueous solution of lithium carbonate (step S1). First, a powder (hereinafter, also simply referred to as “powder”) made of a lithium nickel composite oxide is prepared as a base material. Powders general formula Li z Ni 1-x-y Co x M y O 2 ( however, 0 ≦ x ≦ 0.35,0 ≦ y ≦ 0.10,0.95 ≦ z ≦ 1.10, M is , Mn, V, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti, and at least one element selected from Al).

The method for producing the powder is not particularly limited, and it can be produced by a known method. The method for producing the powder includes, for example, a method in which a compound containing lithium and a compound containing a metal other than lithium (transition metal such as nickel and cobalt, aluminum, etc.) are mixed and baked, or lithium and a metal other than lithium are mixed. Examples thereof include a method of spray pyrolysis treatment of an aqueous solution containing the same, a method of mixing a hydroxide containing a metal other than lithium obtained by a neutralization crystallization method, and a lithium compound, and firing the mixture. Among these, the method of using a hydroxide containing a metal other than lithium obtained by the neutralization crystallization method or an oxide obtained by heat-treating the hydroxide is desired to have a specific surface area of the obtained powder. Easy to control in the range of. Further, when a sulfate, carbonate, hydroxide or the like is used as a raw material of the powder and a substance derived from these remains in the powder, the manufacturing method of the present embodiment can be preferably used.

The washing of the powder is performed, for example, by dispersing the powder in an aqueous solution of lithium carbonate, stirring, and forming a slurry. As a result, it is possible to remove lithium sulfate, lithium hydroxide, and the like that are present on the surface of the particles of the lithium nickel composite oxide that constitutes the powder. Further, by this, at the same time, lithium hydroxide can be replaced with lithium carbonate. By washing with the aqueous solution of lithium carbonate, the positive electrode active material excellent in weather resistance can be obtained while suppressing the gelation of the positive electrode mixture paste while maintaining the same or higher initial capacity as in the conventional production method.

The lithium carbonate aqueous solution is prepared, for example, by dissolving lithium carbonate in water. The concentration of the lithium carbonate aqueous solution is not particularly limited and can be in the range soluble in water. The concentration of the lithium carbonate aqueous solution is, for example, 0.5 g/L or more and 16.0 g/L or less. When the concentration is less than 0.5 g/L, the effect of leaving a part of lithium hydroxide as lithium carbonate is not sufficient, and it may be difficult to obtain the expected effect. On the other hand, when the concentration exceeds 16.0 g/L, it may be difficult to adjust the lithium carbonate aqueous solution because it is close to the supersaturated concentration of lithium carbonate. Moreover, the lower limit of the concentration of the aqueous lithium carbonate solution is preferably 1.0 g/L or more, more preferably 5.0 g/L or more, and further preferably 7.0 g/L or more. When the lower limit of the concentration is within the above range, the lithium carbonate content in the positive electrode active material and the like can be more easily adjusted to a desired range, and higher weather resistance can be obtained. On the other hand, the upper limit of the concentration of the lithium carbonate aqueous solution is preferably 15.0 g/L or less. When the upper limit of the concentration is within this range, higher weather resistance can be obtained. In addition, a part of lithium carbonate in the lithium carbonate aqueous solution may react with carbon dioxide to generate lithium hydrogen carbonate.

The slurry concentration of the lithium carbonate aqueous solution containing the powder is not particularly limited as long as the powder is uniformly dispersed in the lithium carbonate aqueous solution. The slurry concentration is, for example, 100 g/L or more and 3000 g/L or less. Here, g/L, which is a unit of the slurry concentration, means a powder amount (g) with respect to the lithium carbonate aqueous solution amount (L) in the slurry. When the slurry concentration is in the above range, the higher the slurry concentration, the larger the amount of powder contained in the slurry, and it is possible to process a large amount of powder. The lower limit of the slurry concentration is preferably 200 g/L or more, more preferably 500 g/L or more. When the lower limit of the slurry concentration is within the above range, the content of lithium hydroxide can be more efficiently reduced and the content of lithium carbonate can be increased. On the other hand, the upper limit of the slurry concentration is preferably 2500 g/L or less, more preferably 2000 g/L or less. When the upper limit of the slurry concentration is in the above range, the viscosity of the slurry is in an appropriate range, the slurry can be stirred more uniformly, and lithium sulfate or lithium hydroxide can be removed more efficiently.

Washing conditions other than the above are not particularly limited, and can be appropriately adjusted so that the lithium hydroxide and sulfate radicals remaining in the powder are sufficiently removed and the lithium carbonate content falls within a desired range. For example, when stirring the lithium carbonate aqueous solution containing the powder, the stirring time can be about 5 minutes to 1 hour. Further, the cleaning temperature can be set to, for example, about 10°C to 30°C.

During cleaning, lithium in the powder may be eluted in the slurry, and the atomic ratio of Li in the powder may be different before and after the cleaning. In this case, the atomic ratio that changes due to cleaning is mainly Li, and the atomic ratio of metals other than Li before cleaning is maintained after cleaning. The atomic ratio of Li reduced by the above cleaning is, for example, about 0.03 to 0.08. Cleaning with an aqueous solution of lithium carbonate has a smaller atomic ratio of Li, which is decreased by cleaning, as compared with cleaning with normal water, and the decrease in Li tends to be moderated. Regarding the atomic ratio of Li after cleaning, a reduction amount of the atomic ratio of Li before and after cleaning was confirmed by a preliminary test in which the cleaning conditions were the same, and a lithium metal composite oxide powder in which the atomic ratio of Li was adjusted as a base material Can be controlled by using.

Next, as shown in FIG. 1, after washing with an aqueous solution of lithium carbonate, the slurry containing the powder is filtered (step S2). The filtration method is not particularly limited, and for example, filtration can be performed using a commonly used filtration device such as a suction filter, a filter press or a centrifuge. By performing the filtration, it is possible to reduce the amount of adhered water remaining on the powder surface during solid-liquid separation of the slurry. When the amount of attached water is large, the lithium salt dissolved in the liquid may be re-precipitated, and the amount of lithium present on the surface of the lithium-nickel composite oxide particles after drying may deviate from the expected range. Whether or not step S2 is performed is arbitrary. When step 2S is not performed, the adhered water may be removed by, for example, allowing the slurry to stand or centrifuging to remove the supernatant.

Next, as shown in FIG. 1, after filtration, the obtained powder is dried (step S3). The drying temperature is not particularly limited as long as it is a temperature at which the water contained in the powder is sufficiently removed. The drying temperature is preferably 80° C. or higher and 350° C. or lower, for example. If the drying temperature is lower than 80° C., the powder after cleaning will be dried slowly, so that a gradient of the lithium concentration may occur between the surface of the powder and the inside of the powder, and the battery characteristics of the obtained positive electrode active material may deteriorate. .. On the other hand, when the drying temperature is higher than 350° C., the crystal structure near the surface of the powder may be broken, and the battery characteristics of the obtained positive electrode active material may be deteriorated. This is because the crystal structure near the surface of the powder after washing is very close to the stoichiometric ratio, or is a state close to the charged state due to the desorption of a little lithium, and is likely to collapse. Conceivable.

The drying time is not particularly limited, and drying is performed at a time such that the moisture content of the powder after drying is 0.2% by weight or less, more preferably 0.1% by weight or less, and further preferably 0.05% by weight or less. Is preferred. The drying time is, for example, 1 hour or more and 24 hours or less. The moisture content of the powder can be measured by a Karl Fischer moisture meter at a vaporization temperature of 300°C.

The drying atmosphere is preferably a gas atmosphere containing no compound components containing carbon and sulfur, or a vacuum atmosphere. The amount of carbon and sulfur in the powder can be easily controlled by washing (step S1). When drying (step S3) and further drying in an atmosphere containing carbon and sulfur compound components or in a vacuum atmosphere, the amount of carbon and the amount of sulfur in the powder may change, and the expected effect may not be obtained.

If the amount of carbon and the amount of sulfur in the powder can be controlled within the ranges described below, the powder may be washed (step S1) and then directly dried (step S3) without performing step S2. Further, after drying (step S3), the obtained powder can be used as a material of the positive electrode mixture paste as a positive electrode active material. After drying (step S3), the obtained powder may be crushed and then used as a positive electrode active material for a positive electrode mixture paste material.

2. The positive electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the positive electrode active material present embodiment for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is represented by the general formula Li z Ni 1-x-y Co x M y O 2 ( however, 0 ≦ x ≦ 0 .35, 0≦y≦0.10, 0.95≦z≦1.10, M is represented by at least one element selected from Mn, V, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti and Al). Consists of a lithium nickel composite oxide, a lithium carbonate content of 0.4 mass% or more and 1.5 mass% or less, a lithium hydroxide content of 0.5 mass% or less, and a sulfate group content of 0.1 mass% or less. Is. Hereinafter, an example of an embodiment of the positive electrode active material will be described.

[composition]
In the above general formula, z represents the element ratio of Li when the metal elements (Ni, Co and M) other than Li in the lithium nickel composite oxide are 1. The range of z is 0.95≦z≦1.10. When z is less than 0.95, the reaction resistance of the positive electrode may increase and the battery output may decrease. On the other hand, when z exceeds 1.10, the safety of the secondary battery may decrease. From the viewpoint of the balance between battery output and safety, the range of z is preferably 0.97≦z≦1.05, more preferably 0.97≦z≦1.00. When z is in the above range, the secondary battery containing this positive electrode active material has an excellent balance of battery output and safety. As described above, when the powder made of the lithium nickel composite oxide is used as the base material for washing, Li may be eluted from the powder. Therefore, in the case of washing, the reduction amount of Li before and after washing is confirmed by a preliminary experiment, and the powder before washing is prepared so that the element ratio of Li after washing falls within the above range. Can be within the above range.

In the above general formula, x represents the element ratio of Co when the metal elements other than Li (Ni, Co and M) are 1. The range of x is 0≦x≦0.35, and preferably 0<x≦0.35. By containing cobalt in the positive electrode active material, good cycle characteristics can be obtained. This is because by substituting part of nickel in the crystal lattice with cobalt, the expansion/contraction behavior of the crystal lattice due to lithium insertion/removal accompanying charge/discharge can be reduced.

From the viewpoint of improving the cycle characteristics of the secondary battery, the range of x is preferably 0.03≦x≦0.35, and more preferably 0.05≦x≦0.3. In addition, the range of x is preferably 0.03≦x≦0.15, and more preferably 0.05≦x≦0.10, from the viewpoint of the battery capacity of the secondary battery. On the other hand, when importance is attached to thermal stability, the range of x is preferably 0.07≦x≦0.25, and more preferably 0.10≦x≦0.20.

In the above general formula, y represents the element ratio of M (additive element) when the metal elements other than Li (Ni, Co and M) are 1. M is at least one element selected from Mn, V, Mg, Mo, Nb, Ti and Al. The range of y is 0≦y≦0.10, and preferably 0<y≦0.10. By adding M to the positive electrode active material, the durability characteristics and safety of the secondary battery containing the positive electrode active material can be improved. On the other hand, when y exceeds 0.10, the metal elements that contribute to the redox reaction (Redox reaction) decrease, and the battery capacity decreases, which is not preferable. Further, when M is aluminum, the safety of the positive electrode active material is further improved.

Further, in the above general formula, the element ratio of nickel is 0.55 or more and 1 or less when the metal elements other than Li (Ni, Co and M) are 1. The element ratio of each metal element in the lithium nickel composite oxide can be adjusted to the above range by adjusting the mixing ratio of the raw materials containing Li, Ni, Co and M.

[Lithium carbonate content]
The positive electrode active material of this embodiment has a lithium carbonate content of 0.4 mass% or more and 1.5 mass% or less. When the content of lithium carbonate is within the above range, deterioration of the surface of the lithium nickel composite oxide can be prevented, and a positive electrode active material having high weather resistance can be obtained. When the content of lithium carbonate is less than 0.4% by mass, the effect of preventing alteration of the surface of the lithium nickel composite oxide is weakened, and a positive electrode active material having pure weather resistance cannot be obtained. On the other hand, when the content of lithium carbonate exceeds 1.5% by mass, when the positive electrode active material is charged in a high temperature environment, lithium carbonate is decomposed to cause gas generation, which deteriorates battery characteristics.

Here, the lithium carbonate contained in the positive electrode active material is derived from the lithium hydroxide remaining in the positive electrode active material resulting from carbonation by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and the lithium carbonate aqueous solution used for the above-mentioned washing. Including what you do. The lower limit of the lithium carbonate content is preferably 0.45 mass% or more, more preferably 0.55 mass% or more. The upper limit of the lithium carbonate content is preferably 1.0% by mass or less. When the lithium carbonate content is within the above range, a positive electrode active material having more excellent weather resistance can be obtained. The content of lithium carbonate was measured by measuring the total carbon element (C) content in the positive electrode active material with a carbon-sulfur analyzer (CS-600 manufactured by LECO), and measuring the measured carbon element (C) content. It is a value obtained by converting to LiCO 3 . Moreover, the presence of lithium carbonate (LiCO 3 ) can be confirmed by the presence of a diffraction peak in X-ray diffraction measurement.

[Sulfate content]
The positive electrode active material of the present embodiment has a sulfate group (sulfate group) content of 0.05% by mass or less, preferably 0.025% by mass or less, and more preferably 0.020% by mass or less. When the sulfate group content in the positive electrode active material exceeds 0.05% by mass, when constructing the battery, the negative electrode material has to be additionally used in the battery by an amount corresponding to the irreversible capacity of the positive electrode active material. As a result, the capacity per unit weight and volume of the battery as a whole is reduced, and the extra lithium accumulated in the negative electrode as an irreversible capacity is also unfavorable in terms of safety. The lower limit of the sulfate content in the positive electrode active material is not particularly limited, but is, for example, 0.001% by mass or more.

Here, the sulfate group contained in the positive electrode active material is mainly lithium sulfate generated from impurities derived from the raw materials. The sulfate content can be determined by converting the measured S (sulfur element) amount into an SO 4 amount by an IPC emission spectroscopic analyzer.

[Lithium hydroxide content]
The positive electrode active material of this embodiment has a lithium hydroxide content of 0.5% by mass or less, preferably 0.3% by mass or less, and more preferably 0.2% by mass or less. When the content of lithium hydroxide in the positive electrode active material exceeds 0.5% by mass, it causes gelation when the positive electrode active material is kneaded with the paste. Further, when the positive electrode active material is charged in a high temperature environment, lithium hydroxide also causes oxidative decomposition and gas generation. The lower limit of the lithium hydroxide content in the positive electrode active material is not particularly limited, but is, for example, 0.01% by mass or more.

Here, the lithium hydroxide contained in the positive electrode active material includes lithium hydroxide derived from the raw material used in the production of the positive electrode active material, for example, nickel composite hydroxide or nickel composite oxide and the like. It includes unreacted substances when a lithium compound such as lithium is mixed and fired. The lithium hydroxide content was determined by adding pure water to the obtained positive electrode active material, stirring, and then measuring the amount of lithium (Li) eluted in pure water by neutralization titration with 1 mol/liter of hydrochloric acid. A value obtained by subtracting the amount of lithium (Li) derived from LiCO 3 obtained by the above method from the amount of eluted lithium (Li) is taken as the amount of lithium (Li) derived from lithium hydroxide, and converted to LiOH. It is the value obtained by.

[Average particle size]
The average particle size of the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment is not particularly limited, but for example, by being 3 μm or more and 25 μm or less, the battery capacity per volume of the positive electrode active material can be increased and the safety is high, A secondary battery having excellent cycle characteristics can be obtained. The average particle size is a value measured by a laser diffraction type particle size distribution meter.

[Specific surface area]
The specific surface area of the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment is not particularly limited, but is, for example, 1.0 m 2 /g or more and 7.0 m 2 /g or less, and the particle surface that can come into contact with the electrolytic solution is sufficient. When the specific surface area is less than 1.0 m 2 /g, the particle surface that can come into contact with the electrolytic solution is reduced, and a sufficient charge/discharge capacity may not be obtained. On the other hand, when the specific surface area exceeds 7.0 m 2 /g, the surface of particles that come into contact with the electrolytic solution becomes too large, which may reduce the safety. The specific surface area is a value measured by a specific surface area measuring device using the BET method based on the nitrogen gas adsorption method.

The positive electrode active material of the present embodiment can be easily produced in a large amount on an industrial scale by using the method for producing a positive electrode active material described above.

3. Non-Aqueous Electrolyte Secondary Battery The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to the present embodiment includes the positive electrode active material in the positive electrode. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present embodiment can be composed of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator, and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution, like a general non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. Hereinafter, each component, and the shape and configuration of the battery in the embodiment of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery will be described in detail.

[Positive electrode]
The positive electrode composite material forming the positive electrode and each material constituting the same will be described. The powdery positive electrode active material of the present invention, a conductive material, a binder is mixed, further activated carbon if necessary, a solvent for the purpose of viscosity adjustment and the like is added, and this is kneaded to form a positive electrode mixture paste. Create. The mixing ratio of the respective materials in the positive electrode mixture is also an important factor that determines the performance of the lithium secondary battery.

The mixing ratio of each material in the positive electrode mixture is not particularly limited, but like the positive electrode of a general lithium secondary battery, with respect to 100% by mass of the total solid content of the positive electrode mixture excluding the solvent, respectively, It is desirable to contain the positive electrode active material in an amount of 60% by mass to 95% by mass, the conductive material in an amount of 1% by mass to 20% by mass, and the binder (binder) in an amount of 1% by mass to 20% by mass.

The obtained positive electrode mixture paste is applied to the surface of a current collector made of aluminum foil, for example, and dried to scatter (evaporate) the solvent. If necessary, pressure may be applied by a roll press or the like to increase the electrode density. In this way, a sheet-shaped positive electrode can be produced. The sheet-like positive electrode can be cut into an appropriate size according to the intended battery and used for the production of the battery. However, the method for producing the positive electrode is not limited to the above-exemplified method, and another method may be used.

In the production of the positive electrode, as the conductive material, for example, graphite (natural graphite, artificial graphite, expanded graphite, etc.) or a carbon black-based material such as acetylene black or Ketjen black can be used.

Further, the binder, which plays a role of binding the active material particles, includes, for example, polyvinylidene fluoride, polytetrafluoroethylene, ethylene propylene diene rubber, fluororesins such as fluororubber, styrene butadiene, and cellulose-based resins. A resin, a thermoplastic resin such as polyacrylic acid, polypropylene, or polyethylene can be used.

Further, if necessary, a solvent that disperses the positive electrode active material, the conductive material, and the activated carbon and dissolves the binder may be added to the positive electrode mixture. As an example of the solvent to be added, an organic solvent such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone can be used. Activated carbon may be added to the positive electrode mixture to increase the electric double layer capacity.

[Negative electrode]
For the negative electrode, metallic lithium, a lithium alloy, or the like, or a negative electrode active material capable of absorbing and desorbing lithium ions, mixed with a binder, and added with a suitable solvent to form a paste of the negative electrode mixture, such as copper. The examples and comparative examples were evaluated by the measurement results using the following devices and methods.

[Composition, sulfate content]
After dissolving the powder of the lithium nickel composite oxide used as the base material with nitric acid, the composition ratio of each component was measured by an ICP emission spectroscopy analyzer (ICPS-8100 manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation). The sulfate content was determined by measuring the sulfur element (S) content by ICP emission analysis and converting the measured sulfur element content into SO 4 .

[Lithium carbonate content]

[Lithium hydroxide content]
100 ml of ultrapure water was added to 10 g of the obtained positive electrode active material powder, the mixture was stirred for 5 minutes, filtered, and the filtrate was titrated with 1 mol/liter of hydrochloric acid to measure up to the second neutralization point. The alkali content neutralized with hydrochloric acid was used as the amount of lithium (Li) derived from lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ). Further, the amount of lithium (Li) derived from lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ) was calculated from the content of lithium carbonate obtained by the above method. Then, an amount obtained by subtracting the amount of Li derived from lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ) from the amount of Li derived from lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ) is calculated from the amount derived from lithium hydroxide (LiOH). The amount of Li was defined as the Li content, and the Li content was converted to LiOH to determine the lithium hydroxide content.

Figure 2020115484
Figure 2020115484

As is clear from Table 1, the positive electrode active materials obtained in Examples have a lithium carbonate content of 0.4% by mass or more and 1.5% by mass or less and a lithium hydroxide content of 0.2% by mass. And the sulfate content is 0.05% by mass or less. Therefore, gelation during paste kneading was suppressed, and the discharge capacity retention rate in a weather resistance test exceeded 85%, indicating excellent weather resistance.

On the other hand, in Comparative Example 1, since the washing with the lithium carbonate aqueous solution was not performed, the obtained positive electrode active material had a high lithium hydroxide content and a high sulfate group content. Therefore, gelation was observed during paste kneading, and it can be said that the battery performance was inferior to the positive electrode active materials of the examples.

In Comparative Examples 2 and 3, since pure water was used instead of lithium carbonate for cleaning, the content of lithium carbonate in the obtained positive electrode active material was lower than 0.4% by mass. Therefore, the discharge capacity retention rate by the weather resistance test was lower than that of the positive electrode active materials of the examples.

From the above results, by using the positive electrode active material manufacturing method of the present embodiment, the obtained positive electrode active material can suppress gelation of the positive electrode mixture paste when used as a positive electrode material of a battery, and further has weather resistance. It is clear that an excellent secondary battery can be obtained. Further, it can be seen that the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment is useful as the positive electrode active material of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
