Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic electroluminescence element (hereinafter, electroluminescence (electroluminescence) may be referred to as “EL”), a manufacturing method thereof, a display device, and an illumination device.
The organic EL element has features such that it can be driven at a low voltage, and can be made thin, light, and flexible. For this reason, the organic EL element is suitably used for an image display device and a lighting device.
The organic EL element has a structure in which a plurality of layers such as an electron transport layer, a light emitting layer, and a hole transport layer are laminated between a cathode and an anode. As an organic EL element, there are a normal structure in which an anode is disposed between a substrate and a light emitting layer, and a reverse structure in which a cathode is disposed between the substrate and the light emitting layer. In the case of an organic EL element having a reverse structure, when this is used for an image display device or the like, the cathode and the transistor can be easily connected.
In recent years, an organic-inorganic hybrid organic EL element (HOILED) having an inverted structure in which a metal oxide that is stable in the atmosphere and has a low work function is formed on the cathode surface has been proposed (for example, non-patented). Reference 1 and Non-Patent Document 2). By forming an electron injection layer made of a metal oxide layer on the cathode surface, the electron injection property in the organic EL element is improved.
Examples of the metal oxide include titanium oxide (TiO 2 ), zinc oxide (ZnO), tungsten oxide (WO 3 ), niobium oxide (Nb 2 O 5 ), iron oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ), and tin oxide (SnO 2 ). Etc. can be used (see, for example, Patent Document 1 and Patent Document 2).
The metal oxide layer is generally formed using a sputtering method. When a metal oxide layer is formed using a sputtering method, it is necessary to perform heat treatment at a high temperature.
On the other hand, when manufacturing a flexible display including an organic EL element, a substrate made of a flexible resin material is used. Since a substrate made of a resin material has low heat resistance, it is required to perform the manufacturing process of the organic EL element at a low temperature.
As a method for forming a metal oxide layer at a low temperature, there is a method in which zinc oxide nanoparticles are applied to a surface to be formed and heat-treated. For example, Non-Patent
Conventionally, in an organic EL device having an electron injection layer containing zinc oxide nanoparticles, there has been a problem that when continuously driven, the light emission characteristics are deteriorated in a short time and the light emission luminance is lowered.
This invention is made | formed in view of the said situation, and makes it a subject to provide the organic EL element which a light emission characteristic does not deteriorate easily even if it drives continuously, and its manufacturing method.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a display device and an illumination device that include the organic EL element and can be used stably for a long period of time.
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present inventor has made extensive studies.
As a result, an electron injection layer containing one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium and zinc oxide nanoparticles is provided between the cathode and the light emitting layer of the organic EL element. As a result, the present invention has been conceived.
That is, the present invention relates to the following inventions.
[1] A light emitting layer is provided between the cathode and the anode,

[3] A display device comprising the organic electroluminescence element according to [1] or [2].
[4] An illumination device comprising the organic electroluminescence element according to [1] or [2].
[5] A method for producing an organic electroluminescence device according to [1] or [2],
Electron injection layer formation in which a coating liquid containing one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium, zinc oxide nanoparticles, and a solvent is applied to the surface on which the electron injection layer is formed. The manufacturing method of the organic electroluminescent element characterized by including a process.
[6] The method for producing an organic electroluminescent element as described in [5], wherein the coating liquid comprises tin acetate, the zinc oxide nanoparticles, and a solvent.
[7] The method for producing an organic electroluminescent element as described in [5], wherein the coating solution comprises a tin acetylacetonate complex, the zinc oxide nanoparticles, and a solvent.

It has been. Tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium are all elements that have a stronger binding force with oxygen than zinc. For this reason, the electron injection layer in the organic EL device of the present invention contains zinc oxide nanoparticles without containing one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium. It is presumed that there are few oxygen vacancies in the zinc oxide nanoparticles and little excess zinc. Therefore, in the organic EL device of the present invention, by continuously driving, oxygen deficiency present in the zinc oxide nanoparticles in the electron injection layer deteriorates the layer in contact with the light emitting layer side of the electron injection layer, resulting in emission characteristics. Deterioration is suppressed. Therefore, the organic EL element of the present invention is less likely to deteriorate the light emission characteristics even when continuously driven, and the light emission luminance is not easily lowered.
Moreover, since the display apparatus and lighting apparatus of this invention contain the organic EL element of this invention, they can be used stably for a long period of time.
Moreover, the method for producing an organic EL device of the present invention includes a coating solution containing one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium, zinc oxide nanoparticles, and a solvent. An electron injection layer forming step of applying to the formation surface of the injection layer; For this reason, according to the method for producing an organic EL device of the present invention, an organic material having an electron injection layer containing one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium and zinc oxide nanoparticles. An EL element is obtained. Moreover, according to the manufacturing method of the organic EL element of this invention, an organic EL element with a low drive voltage can be manufactured, without performing the heat processing at high temperature like the case where sputtering method is used.
In order to obtain an organic EL element in which the light emission characteristics are not easily deteriorated even when continuously driven, the present inventor has intensively studied paying attention to the electron injection layer.
Conventionally, when an organic EL element having an electron injection layer containing zinc oxide nanoparticles is continuously driven, the light emission characteristics deteriorate in a short time. This is presumed to be due to the following reason.
That is, the zinc element forming the zinc oxide nanoparticles has a weak binding force with oxygen. For this reason, the zinc oxide nanoparticles tend to cause oxygen vacancies and excessive zinc atoms. In particular, zinc oxide particles that have not been heat-treated at a high temperature have many oxygen vacancies because oxygen defects are not compensated by the heat treatment. From this, when an organic EL device having an electron injection layer containing zinc oxide nanoparticles is continuously driven, oxygen deficiency present in the zinc oxide nanoparticles deteriorates the layer in contact with the light emitting layer side of the electron injection layer. As a result, it is estimated that the light emission characteristics of the organic EL element deteriorate.
Therefore, in order to suppress the deterioration of the light emission characteristics due to the continuous driving of the organic EL element, it is only necessary to reduce the oxygen deficiency of the zinc oxide nanoparticles contained in the electron injection layer and improve the stability of the electron injection layer.
Therefore, the present inventor focused on an element having a stronger binding force with oxygen than zinc, and formed an electron injection layer containing an element having a stronger binding force with oxygen together with zinc oxide nanoparticles. In this case, an element having a strong binding force with oxygen is doped into the zinc oxide nanoparticles to prevent the increase of oxygen vacancies in the zinc oxide nanoparticles and protect the oxygen vacancy site, and the layer in contact with the light emitting layer side of the electron injection layer It is estimated to prevent deterioration of
Further, the present inventor has further studied, and by using one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium as an element having a stronger binding force with oxygen than zinc, tin is used. As compared with the case of having an electron injection layer containing zinc oxide nanoparticles without containing one or more elements selected from zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium, deterioration of the light emitting characteristics of the organic EL element is suppressed. The present invention was conceived.

In the present embodiment, transparency and conductivity are particularly good among one or more elements selected from tin, zirconium, silicon, germanium, titanium, and hafnium (hereinafter sometimes referred to as “doping elements”). Therefore, tin is preferable.

Range. When the number of moles of the doping element with respect to 1 mole of zinc element is 0.001 mole or more, the effect of suppressing the deterioration of the light emission characteristics due to the inclusion of an element having a stronger bonding force with oxygen than zinc is significant. In addition, when the number of moles of the doping element with respect to 1 mole of zinc element is 100 moles or less, good electron injection properties are obtained because zinc oxide nanoparticles are sufficiently contained.

The heat treatment temperature and the heat treatment time are determined according to the solvent used in the coating solution and / or the type of the doping element. The heat treatment temperature is preferably in the range of room temperature to 250 ° C, and more preferably in the range of 80 to 150 ° C. In an environment in which the solvent can be dried, it is not necessary to heat the surface on which the coating solution is applied, so the lower limit of the heat treatment temperature is room temperature. When the heat treatment temperature is 250 ° C. or lower, the

(Measurement of lifetime characteristics of organic EL elements)
For the organic EL elements of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Example 1, the relationship between the elapsed time from the start of driving at a constant current and the relative luminance by the “organic EL lifetime measuring device” manufactured by EHC, respectively. Examined. Specifically, the voltage is automatically adjusted so that a constant current flows through the organic EL element, and the relative luminance is measured with respect to the elapsed time after starting driving at a constant current (a luminance meter manufactured by Konica Minolta ( LS-110)). The current value was set for each of the organic EL elements of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Example 1 so that the luminance at the start of measurement was 1000 cd / m 2 . The result is shown in FIG.
FIG. 2 is a graph showing the relationship between the elapsed time from the start of driving at a constant current and the relative luminance using the organic EL lifetime measuring apparatus. As shown in FIG. 2, in any of the organic EL elements of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Example 1, the luminance decreases with the elapsed time. However, in Examples 1 to 4, a decrease in luminance is suppressed as compared with Comparative Example 1.
For example, at the time when the elapsed time is 1000 hours, the luminance is reduced by about 180 cd / m 2 in Comparative Example 1. In contrast, 78cd / m 2 approximately in Example 1, Example 2, 72cd / m 2 approximately, about Example 3 In 84cd / m 2, only in Example 4 130 cd / m 2 about not decreased.
From this, it was confirmed that deterioration of luminance when continuously driven can be suppressed by using the organic EL elements of Examples 1 to 4.
<Comparative Example 2, Comparative Example 3, Comparative Example 4>
In the step of forming the electron injection layer, the same procedure as in Example 1 was performed except that a zinc / tin oxide (ZTO) film having a thickness of 5 nm was formed using a sputtering apparatus (manufactured by Shibaura Mechatronics). An organic EL device was manufactured. The ZTO film was formed by sputtering using a zinc / tin oxide target (ZnO: SnO 2 = 1 mol: 1 mol) and introducing argon and oxygen (
After the formation of the ZTO film, heat treatment was performed at 150 ° C. for 1 hour in Comparative Example 3 and at 400 ° C. for 1 hour in Comparative Example 4 in the air. In Comparative Example 2, no heat treatment was performed.
(Measurement of light emission characteristics of organic EL elements)
A voltage was applied to the organic EL element with a “2400 type source meter” manufactured by Keithley, and the luminance was measured with “LS-110” manufactured by Konica Minolta.
Table 1 shows voltages at luminance of 100 cd / m 2 in Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 2 to 4.
As shown in Table 1, in the organic EL element of Comparative Example 2 that was not heat-treated after the formation of the ZTO film as the electron injection layer, the drive voltage was higher than that of Comparative Example 3 that was heat-treated at 150 ° C. Further, in the organic EL element of Comparative Example 3, the driving voltage is higher than that of Comparative Example 4 in which the heat treatment is performed at 400 ° C. after the formation of the ZTO film as the electron injection layer. From this, it can be seen that when an electron injection layer made of a ZTO film is formed by sputtering, a high-temperature heat treatment is required to obtain a ZTO film with good characteristics as the electron injection layer.
On the other hand, the organic EL elements of Examples 1 to 4 have a lower drive voltage than Comparative Examples 2 to 4. From this, it was confirmed that the electron injection layer containing tin and zinc oxide nanoparticles can obtain an electron injection layer having good characteristics even at low temperature heat treatment at 120 ° C.
