Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improvement of a hub unit for rotationally supporting a wheel of an automobile. In particular, the present invention relates to the structure of a hub unit that is lightened by making a part of the constituent members made of light alloy steel.
An automobile wheel is rotatably fixed to a knuckle through a rolling bearing device. The wheel is elastically supported by the suspension, and is displaced following the unevenness of the road. When the weight of the wheel or the rolling bearing device supported by the suspension (generally referred to as unsprung weight) increases, the followability decreases, so that the running stability of the vehicle decreases. For this reason, weight reduction of a rolling bearing apparatus is desired.

Thus, in Patent Document 1, it is described that the

In this
Usually, in order to prevent creep, it is necessary to increase the interference of the fitting surface. However, when the

Details of the friction welding will be described later.

Next, a method for manufacturing the

As described above, the

The
The friction welding is performed by pressing the
Since metals having different materials have different melting points, it is generally necessary to be careful when joining dissimilar metals by a welding method such as welding. In particular, it is difficult to weld and join aluminum alloy steel and steel. Even if it can join, joint strength will fall remarkably.
However, according to friction welding, light alloy steel and steel can be easily joined. Further, since the entire friction welding surfaces 32 and 38 are bonded, the bonding strength is extremely high.
According to the friction welding, at the joint portion, the softened aluminum alloy steel of the

Thus, in the
In addition, the mutually facing surfaces of the
With reference to FIG. 1 again, the operation of the

In the first embodiment, the
On the other hand, it is assumed that the
That is, in the
In the
Note that in the
In the
As can be seen from the above description, in the
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 3 is an axial sectional view of the
In the
The
Also in the second embodiment, the
Furthermore, in the
In the above description of the embodiment, a hub unit used for a so-called drive wheel in which spline teeth are formed on the inner periphery of the rotating shaft has been described as an example. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the present invention can also be applied to a hub unit used for a driven wheel having no spline teeth. Further, the rolling elements are not limited to balls, and may be tapered rollers.
As can be seen from the above description, in the hub unit according to the present invention, the hub shaft is formed by friction welding the shaft end member made of light alloy steel and the intermediate member made of steel. The flange that occupies a large weight can be made of light alloy steel. Thereby, the weight of the hub unit can be significantly reduced. Further, the inner raceway surface is formed on a steel intermediate member that is formed integrally with the hub shaft. For this reason, even when a part of the hub shaft is made of light alloy steel, creeping of the raceway member can be reliably prevented. As a result, a lightweight hub unit with excellent durability can be provided.
