Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing an electrophotographic photoreceptor using a plasma CVD method.
Conventionally, as an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a deposited film composed of amorphous silicon, for example, an amorphous material containing a hydrogen atom and / or a halogen atom and having a silicon atom as a base material, some of which have been put to practical use. Has been.
Various methods for forming this kind of deposited film have also been proposed, and examples thereof include a vacuum deposition method, an ion plating method, a sputtering method, a thermal CVD method, a plasma CVD method, and a photo CVD method. In particular, the plasma CVD method is currently in practical use in the formation method of an electrophotographic photosensitive member, and many apparatuses have been proposed. The plasma CVD method is a method in which DC power or RF high frequency power is applied to the source gas to decompose the source gas and form a deposited film on the outer peripheral surface of the substrate.
For example, a deposition film forming method is disclosed in which an auxiliary substrate cap is provided on an upper portion of a substrate attached to the auxiliary substrate, and a deposited film is formed on the surface of the substrate by plasma CVD (see Patent Document 1).
In addition, an electrophotographic photosensitive member forming apparatus is disclosed in which a deposition film is formed in a state where the auxiliary substrate is pressed in the longitudinal direction of the cylindrical substrate by a pressing means and the auxiliary substrate is pressed against the cylindrical substrate (patent). Reference 2).
Conventionally, the film characteristics of the deposited film have been made uniform by the above-described measures.
However, in recent years, uniformity of the film characteristics of the deposited film has been demanded more than ever with the enhancement of the function of the apparatus using such a deposited film, for example, digitization and colorization of the electrophotographic apparatus.
For example, in recent high-quality color devices using electrophotographic processes, the gradation is improved, so even with non-uniform film characteristics of deposited films that were not practically problematic in the past, it is possible to visualize the formed image May cause unevenness. For this reason, it has become difficult to ensure the uniformity of the film characteristics of the deposited film that is required in recent years only by the conventional technique as described above.
The present invention has been made in view of the prior art as described above, and an object thereof is to provide a method for producing an electrophotographic photoreceptor capable of forming an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in uniformity of film characteristics. And

In order to achieve the above object, an electrophotographic photosensitive member manufacturing method according to the present invention includes a first auxiliary substrate, a first cylindrical substrate, and a first cylindrical substrate connected to a grounded cradle inside a reaction container that can be depressurized. A base holder on which two cylindrical bases and a second auxiliary base are mounted in this order is installed,
A raw material gas is introduced into the reaction vessel, and high-frequency power is applied to a cylindrical electrode that also serves as a side wall of the reaction vessel disposed so as to surround the first cylindrical substrate and the second cylindrical substrate. Thus, in the method for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member by forming a deposited film on the first cylindrical substrate and the second cylindrical substrate,
Of the two end surfaces of the first auxiliary substrate, the arithmetic average roughness of the end surface on the side close to the first cylindrical substrate is Ra 1, and of the two end surfaces of the first cylindrical substrate, The arithmetic mean roughness of the end face close to the first auxiliary base is Ra 2 and the arithmetic mean roughness of the end face close to the second cylindrical base out of the two end faces of the first cylindrical base is set. Ra 3 is set, and the arithmetic mean roughness of the end surface close to the first cylindrical substrate among the two end surfaces of the second cylindrical substrate is Ra 4, and the second cylindrical substrate Of the two end surfaces, the arithmetic average roughness of the end surface close to the second auxiliary substrate is Ra 5, and the two end surfaces of the second auxiliary substrate are the sides close to the second cylindrical substrate. when the end surface arithmetic average roughness of the Ra 6, wherein Ra 1, wherein Ra 2, wherein Ra 3, wherein Ra 4 Wherein Ra 5 and the Ra 6, characterized by satisfying at least one of the following formulas (1) and the following formula (2).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 <Ra 1 + Ra 2 (1)
Ra 3 + Ra 4 <Ra 5 + Ra 6 (2)
According to the present invention, an electrophotographic photoreceptor excellent in uniformity of film characteristics can be produced.
In order to improve the uniformity of the film characteristics of the deposited film, the present inventors have intensively studied the configuration of the deposited film forming apparatus.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view showing an example of a deposited film forming apparatus for manufacturing an electrophotographic photosensitive member by plasma CVD.
In FIG. 4, a first
That is, the first
Generally, high frequency power propagates on the surface of a metal. For this reason, it is transmitted from the feeding position of the high frequency power provided on the outer surface of the electrode to the outer surface of the electrode, and from the end point of the electrode closest to the feeding position (hereinafter referred to as “open end”), It is thought that it is transmitted to the surface. When the electrode is cylindrical, there is no open end in the circumferential direction, and the open end is a terminal end (both ends) in the generatrix direction of the cylindrical electrode.
In the case of the deposited film forming apparatus using the
As a result of studies by the present inventors, in the configuration in which the
In order to solve the above problems, the present inventors tried the configuration shown in Patent Document 2. An apparatus for forming an electrophotographic photosensitive member disclosed in Patent Document 2 reduces an earth surface discontinuity with respect to high-frequency power between a cylindrical base and an auxiliary base and between the cylindrical base and a base holder. Has the effect of reflecting the original unevenness. Therefore, in the apparatus configuration in which the
Therefore, as a result of diligent examination of countermeasures, the inventors have come up with the idea of improving the uniformity of film characteristics by intentionally creating a reflecting surface that cancels out the nonuniformity of plasma density.
As a countermeasure, it is important that the relation between the arithmetic average roughness between the cylindrical auxiliary substrate and the cylindrical substrate and the arithmetic average roughness between the cylindrical substrate and the cylindrical substrate satisfy a certain condition. I found out.
Hereinafter, specific embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 are set so as to satisfy at least one of the following formula (1) and the following formula (2).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 <Ra 1 + Ra 2 (1)
Ra 3 + Ra 4 <Ra 5 + Ra 6 (2)
When Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 and Ra 4 satisfy the formula (1), it is preferable that Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 satisfy the following formula (5).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 = Ra 5 + Ra 6 (5)
Further, when Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 satisfy the above formula (2), it is preferable that Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 and Ra 4 satisfy the following formula (6).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 = Ra 1 + Ra 2 (6)
The arithmetic average roughness referred to in the present invention is the arithmetic average roughness (Ra) indicated by JIS B0601.
For example, the case where only the above formula (1) is satisfied will be described as an example.
Arithmetic at the connection portion between the first
High frequency power is susceptible to contact conditions. For this reason, even in a state where sufficient conduction is ensured in terms of direct current at the connection portion between the first
As described above, in the configuration in which the
In other words, the nonuniformity of the plasma due to the reflective surface intentionally created as described above is a direction in which the nonuniformity of the plasma due to the configuration in which the substrate holder is grounded only on one side and the length of the cathode electrode is canceled. To work. As a result, it is possible to suppress an increase in the thickness of the lower end of the first
The same applies to the case where only the above formula (2) is satisfied, and it is possible to suppress the increase in the thickness of the upper end of the second
Further, the same applies to the case where the above formulas (1) and (2) are satisfied, and the film thicknesses at the lower end of the first
In the present invention, the end face whose arithmetic average roughness is to be controlled refers to a face where the cylindrical bases face each other or the cylindrical base and the auxiliary base face each other. For example, the end face for which the arithmetic average roughness of the first
As a method for processing the end face, any method may be used as long as it can be finished to an arbitrary arithmetic average roughness by changing the processing conditions, and examples thereof include cutting, polishing, and compression.
In the case of cutting, it can be processed to an arbitrary arithmetic average roughness depending on the type of cutting tool, feed rate, and the like. In the case of polishing, it can be processed to any arithmetic average roughness depending on the count of the polishing member (for example, sandpaper, polishing sheet, polishing sponge, etc.), the type of abrasive material and the grain system. In the case of compression processing, the surface can be processed smoothly by applying pressure to the end face.
Furthermore, it is preferable that Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 satisfy at least one of the following formula (3) and the following formula (4).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 ≦ 1.0 μm and 2.0 μm ≦ Ra 1 + Ra 2 (3)
Ra 3 + Ra 4 ≦ 1.0 μm and 2.0 μm ≦ Ra 5 + Ra 6 (4)

When Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 and Ra 4 satisfy the formula (3), it is preferable that Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 satisfy the following formula (5).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 = Ra 5 + Ra 6 (5)
Further, when Ra 3 , Ra 4 , Ra 5 and Ra 6 satisfy the above formula (4), it is preferable that Ra 1 , Ra 2 , Ra 3 and Ra 4 satisfy the following formula (6).
Ra 3 + Ra 4 = Ra 1 + Ra 2 (6)

If the above formula (3) is satisfied, the effects of the present invention can be obtained. However, Ra 1 and Ra 2 are 3.0 μm or less, and Ra 3 and Ra 4 are 0.1 μm or more, which is required for processing. Time and effort can be reduced, and processing costs can be reduced.
Therefore, optimally, it is preferable that 0.2 μm ≦ Ra 3 + Ra 4 ≦ 1.0 μm and 2.0 μm ≦ Ra 1 + Ra 2 ≦ 6.0 μm.
The same applies to the case where only the above formula (4) is satisfied, and the case where the above formula (3) and the above formula (4) are further satisfied.

FIG. 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing another example for explaining the installation method of the cylindrical substrate of the present invention.
When a cylindrical substrate and an auxiliary substrate having a large arithmetic average roughness at each end surface are used, dust may be generated on the contact surface of each end surface due to vibration during conveyance. When the generated dust adheres to the cylindrical substrate, abnormal growth may occur starting from the adhered dust. Thereby, spherical projections are formed on the surface of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and image defects may occur during image formation. Therefore, it is preferable to form a deposited film on the first

The arithmetic average roughness of each end surface is, for example, Ra 1 = 1.6 μm, Ra 2 = 1.2 μm, Ra 3 = 0.2 μm, Ra 4 = 0.4 μm, Ra 5 = 1.2 μm, Ra 6 = 1. The thickness is set to 6 μm so that the following formulas (1) and (2) are satisfied.

(Evaluation of “axial film thickness unevenness”)
The axial film thickness unevenness was evaluated using an eddy current film thickness meter (Fischerscope MMS manufactured by Fisher Instruments Co., Ltd.). The center position of the electrophotographic photosensitive member was defined as 0 position, and the film thickness was measured at a total of 9 points including 8 points (± 4 cm, ± 8 cm, ± 12 cm, ± 16 cm) at intervals of 4 cm on both sides in the axial direction. In addition, for each of the nine points, the film thickness at eight points was measured at 45 ° intervals in the circumferential direction. At each 9 points in the axial direction, the average value of the film thicknesses at 8 points in the circumferential direction was obtained. The difference in film thickness between the maximum value and the minimum value of the average values at the respective positions in the axial direction was defined as the axial film thickness unevenness. Evaluation was carried out by relative evaluation when the result obtained in Comparative Example 1 described later was taken as 100. In other words, the smaller the number, the better the evaluation result.
And ranking was performed according to the following criteria.
It is considered that the effect of the present invention is obtained at rank C or higher.

The evaluation results are shown in Table 2.
Details of a specific film thickness measurement method procedure using the eddy current film thickness meter will be described below.
First, calibration is performed in an environment adjusted to an air temperature of 25 ° C., a humidity of 60%, and 1 atmosphere, and a calibration curve is stored in the film thickness meter. Prepare the same cylindrical substrate (without the deposited film) as the substrate used for the electrophotographic photoreceptor for film thickness measurement, and measure the surface 10 times to adjust the zero point. Next, a standard plate (film with a known thickness) attached to the apparatus is placed on the cylindrical substrate, measured ten times, and the thickness of the standard plate is input. Next, the second standard plate having a different thickness is similarly measured 10 times, and the thickness of the standard plate is input. This completes the calibration of the film thickness meter.
Thus, the correct film thickness can be measured by making the eddy current film thickness meter remember the calibration curve. Other specific operations and measurement work were all in accordance with the instruction manual attached to the FISCHERSCOPE MMS.
Next, the electrophotographic photoreceptor after film formation was measured. Since the eddy current film thickness meter is already calibrated by the above procedure, the film thickness of the electrophotographic photosensitive member can be directly read.
