Abstract
Description
本発明は、二酸化炭素還元装置および還元方法に関し、特に、光触媒を用いた二酸化炭素還元に関する。 The present invention relates to a carbon dioxide reduction device and a reduction method, and more particularly to carbon dioxide reduction using a photocatalyst.
二酸化炭素還元方法としては、光触媒の存在の下、紫外線、太陽光などの光を照射して二酸化炭素を還元する方法が知られている(特許文献1参照)。そこでは、酸化チタン、酸化亜鉛などの光触媒の存在下において光を照射し、化学的反応によって二酸化炭素を固定化する。 As a carbon dioxide reduction method, a method of reducing carbon dioxide by irradiating light such as ultraviolet rays or sunlight in the presence of a photocatalyst is known (see Patent Document 1). There, light is irradiated in the presence of a photocatalyst such as titanium oxide or zinc oxide, and carbon dioxide is immobilized by a chemical reaction.
酸化チタンなどの光触媒は、低い光エネルギーによって励起するため、反応生成物が逆反応しやすく、二酸化炭素が再び生成される。また、低エネルギーの光の場合、二酸化炭素の還元効率を上げることが難しい。 Since a photocatalyst such as titanium oxide is excited by low light energy, the reaction product easily reacts reversely, and carbon dioxide is generated again. In the case of low energy light, it is difficult to increase the reduction efficiency of carbon dioxide.
したがって、高い光エネルギーによって励起する光触媒の下に二酸化炭素を還元し、逆反応の進行を抑えることが求められる。 Therefore, it is required to reduce carbon dioxide under a photocatalyst excited by high light energy to suppress the progress of the reverse reaction.
本発明の二酸化炭素還元方法は、二酸化炭素を溶媒に溶解させ、sp3結晶構造である炭素同素体を含む炭素材を、光触媒として溶媒に入れる。そして、前記炭素材をエネルギーの供給によって励起させ、前記溶媒中の二酸化炭素を還元させる。 In the carbon dioxide reduction method of the present invention, carbon dioxide is dissolved in a solvent, and a carbon material containing a carbon allotrope having an sp 3 crystal structure is placed in the solvent as a photocatalyst. And the said carbon material is excited by supply of energy, and the carbon dioxide in the said solvent is reduce | restored.
本発明では、二酸化炭素の還元という化学反応作用において、sp3結晶構造である炭素同素体を含む炭素材が光触媒として極めて有効であることを初めて見出したものであり、本発明によって、チタンなどの金属を用いなくても、人工ダイヤモンドなど工業生産可能な炭素材を光触媒として利用することにより、環境負荷を低減する二酸化炭素の還元方法が導かれる。 In the present invention, it has been found for the first time that a carbon material containing a carbon allotrope having an sp 3 crystal structure is extremely effective as a photocatalyst in a chemical reaction action of carbon dioxide reduction. Even if carbon dioxide is not used, a carbon material that can be industrially produced, such as artificial diamond, is used as a photocatalyst, leading to a carbon dioxide reduction method that reduces the environmental burden.
エネルギー供給によって効率的にsp3結晶構造である炭素同素体を励起させるためには、大きなエネルギーを安定して供給するのが望ましい。例えば、紫外光を前記炭素材に対して照射することにより、前記炭素材を効果的に励起させることができる。 In order to efficiently excite the carbon allotrope having the sp 3 crystal structure by supplying energy, it is desirable to supply large energy stably. For example, the carbon material can be effectively excited by irradiating the carbon material with ultraviolet light.
炭素材の構成に関しては、一体的な固体として形成することが可能である。例えば、炭素材はプレート状に形成される。あるいは、炭素材を粒子状に形成することが望ましい。炭素材全体に対してエネルギーを効果的に供給するのを考慮すると、炭素材を、前記溶媒中において粒子状に分散させるのがよい。 Regarding the structure of the carbon material, it can be formed as an integral solid. For example, the carbon material is formed in a plate shape. Alternatively, it is desirable to form the carbon material into particles. In consideration of effectively supplying energy to the entire carbon material, the carbon material is preferably dispersed in the form of particles in the solvent.
この場合、sp3結晶構造である炭素同素体と、sp2結晶構造である炭素同素体とが混合する炭素材を構成するのがよい。炭素材粒子表面上において、sp3結晶構造とsp2結晶構造が混在することにより、反応効率が上がる。 In this case, it is preferable to constitute a carbon material in which a carbon allotrope having an sp 3 crystal structure and a carbon allotrope having an sp 2 crystal structure are mixed. The reaction efficiency is increased by mixing the sp 3 crystal structure and the sp 2 crystal structure on the surface of the carbon material particles.
粒子径が大き過ぎると、炭素材の粒径数が少なくなって反応効率が上がらない。一方、粒子径が小さすぎると、粒子表面に混在するsp2結晶構造の表面積割合が大きくなり、二酸化炭素還元の反応効率が低下する。したがって、炭素材の粒径が、5nm〜250nmの範囲であるのが望ましい。特に、炭素材の粒径が、20nm〜30nmの範囲であるのが望ましい。 If the particle size is too large, the number of carbon material particles will decrease, and the reaction efficiency will not increase. On the other hand, if the particle diameter is too small, the surface area ratio of the sp 2 crystal structure mixed on the particle surface increases, and the reaction efficiency of carbon dioxide reduction decreases. Therefore, it is desirable that the carbon material has a particle size in the range of 5 nm to 250 nm. In particular, the particle size of the carbon material is desirably in the range of 20 nm to 30 nm.
還元生成物から二酸化炭素が生成される逆反応を防ぐこと、155nm以上の波長の紫外線を使用することなどを考慮すると、炭素材のバンドギャップは、4〜8eVの範囲にあることが望ましい。 In consideration of preventing a reverse reaction in which carbon dioxide is generated from the reduction product and using ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 155 nm or more, the band gap of the carbon material is desirably in the range of 4 to 8 eV.
本発明の他の態様における二酸化炭素還元装置は、溶媒を収容する容器と、前記溶媒に二酸化炭素を供給する二酸化炭素供給器と、前記溶媒に入れられており、sp3結晶構造である炭素同素体を含む炭素材と、前記炭素材を励起させるエネルギーを供給するエネルギー供給装置とを備える。 A carbon dioxide reduction apparatus according to another aspect of the present invention includes a container that contains a solvent, a carbon dioxide supplier that supplies carbon dioxide to the solvent, and a carbon allotrope that is contained in the solvent and has an sp 3 crystal structure. And an energy supply device that supplies energy for exciting the carbon material.
例えば、エネルギー供給装置が、励起光を放射する光源装置を備える。光源装置は、前記溶媒内において容器深さ方向に沿って配置され、紫外光を放射する管状ランプと、前記ランプを覆う管状保護部材とを設けた構成にすることができる。保護部材でランプをカバーして溶媒内に配置することにより、光エネルギーを効果的に炭素材へ照射させることができる。 For example, the energy supply device includes a light source device that emits excitation light. The light source device may be arranged along the container depth direction in the solvent, and may include a tubular lamp that emits ultraviolet light and a tubular protective member that covers the lamp. By covering the lamp with the protective member and disposing it in the solvent, the carbon material can be effectively irradiated with the light energy.
本発明によれば、二酸化炭素還元装置において、二酸化炭素を効率よく還元することができる。 According to the present invention, carbon dioxide can be efficiently reduced in a carbon dioxide reduction device.
以下では、図面を参照して本発明の実施形態について説明する。 Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
図1は、第1の実施形態である二酸化炭素還元装置を模式的に示した図である。 FIG. 1 is a diagram schematically illustrating a carbon dioxide reduction device according to the first embodiment.
二酸化炭素還元装置10は、容器15、気泡発生器17、炭素材20、光源ユニット35、二酸化炭素供給器50、および循環ポンプ(図示せず)を備えている。容器15には溶媒40が注入されている。二酸化炭素供給器50は、配管25を介して二酸化炭素を溶媒40内の気泡発生器17へ送り込む。
The carbon
光源ユニット35のランプ30は、155nm以上の波長をもつ紫外光を放射する長尺管状の紫外線ランプであり、溶媒40内に容器深さ方向に沿って配置される。ランプ30は、例えばエキシマランプによって構成可能である。ランプ30は、ガラス管などの管状保護部材32に収容されており、溶媒40とランプ30との間には溶媒40が入り込まない密閉空間が形成されている。
The
溶媒40は、二酸化炭素の溶解性、化学反応性の向上性などから、アルカリ性溶媒を用いてもよく、あるいは、純水、中性溶媒、酸性溶媒、イオン性溶媒なども適用可能である。溶媒40に対する二酸化炭素の溶解は、バブリングによって行われる。循環ポンプが作動すると、気泡発生器17によって気泡が生じ、二酸化炭素が溶媒40に溶解する。
As the
光触媒として用いられる炭素材20は、プレート状に形成された固体炭素であり、ここでは、容器深さ方向に延びる一対のプレートによって構成されている。炭素材20は、sp3結晶構造の炭素同素体から成り、例えば人工ダイヤモンドによって構成される。炭素材20のバンドギャップ、すなわちエネルギー準位は、4〜8eVの範囲であり、sp2結晶構造の炭素同素体から構成される炭素材と比べ、エネルギー準位が高い。
The
ランプ30から放射された紫外線が炭素材20に照射されると、sp3結晶構造の炭素同素体が励起し、電子が放出される。この電子放出に伴って生じる比較的高い光エネルギーが、二酸化炭素のC=O結合を切り離す。二酸化炭素の還元と同時に、溶媒40中の水成分が同時に分解され、以下の化学反応が進む。生成された一酸化炭素およびメタンは、気相中に放出される。
When the
2CO2→2CO+O2
CO2+2H2O→CH4+2O2
2CO 2 → 2CO + O 2
CO 2 + 2H 2 O → CH 4 + 2O 2
還元生成物から二酸化炭素が生成される逆反応を防ぐことを考慮すると、バンドギャップは4eV以上であることが望ましい。一方、155nmより短い波長の紫外線はガラスおよび溶媒の透過率が低いことを考慮すると、バンドギャップは155nm以上の紫外線エネルギーに相当する8eV以下であることが望ましい。ランプ30は、バンドギャップ4〜8eVに相当する155nm以上の紫外光を放射する。
In consideration of preventing a reverse reaction in which carbon dioxide is generated from the reduction product, the band gap is desirably 4 eV or more. On the other hand, considering that ultraviolet rays having a wavelength shorter than 155 nm have low transmittance of glass and solvent, the band gap is desirably 8 eV or less corresponding to ultraviolet energy of 155 nm or more. The
Thus, according to this embodiment, in the carbon
二酸化炭素還元の光触媒として、今まで用いられたことのなかったsp3結晶構造の炭素材料を用いることにより、酸化チタンと比べて二酸化炭素還元を効率よく行うことができる。特に、高い光エネルギーによって二酸化炭素を還元するため、逆反応が進行しにくい。 By using a carbon material having an sp 3 crystal structure that has not been used as a photocatalyst for carbon dioxide reduction, carbon dioxide reduction can be performed more efficiently than titanium oxide. In particular, since carbon dioxide is reduced by high light energy, the reverse reaction is unlikely to proceed.
次に、図2を用いて、第2の実施形態である二酸化炭素還元装置について説明する。第2の実施形態では、粒子形状の炭素材が用いられる。それ以外の構成については、第1の実施形態と実質的に同じである。 Next, the carbon dioxide reduction apparatus which is 2nd Embodiment is demonstrated using FIG. In the second embodiment, a carbon material having a particle shape is used. About another structure, it is substantially the same as 1st Embodiment.
図2は、第2の実施形態における二酸化炭素還元装置を示した図である。 FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a carbon dioxide reduction device in the second embodiment.
二酸化炭素還元装置100は、容器115、気泡発生器117、炭素材120、光源ユニット135、二酸化炭素供給器150、および循環ポンプ(図示せず)を備えている。炭素材120は、nmオーダーの微粒子となって溶媒140内に拡散している。第1の実施形態と同様、二酸化炭素が溶媒140において溶解している。
The carbon
炭素材120の粒子表面においては、sp2結晶構造とsp3結晶構造の炭素同素体が混在している。sp3結晶構造の表面積比率が小さいと、光触媒効果が減少する。例えば、sp3結晶構造の表面積比率(割合)が、sp2結晶構造よりも大きくなるように炭素材120を形成することができる。一方、sp3結晶構造の表面積比率が大きいと、光触媒反応の進行に影響がでる。また、炭素材120の一次粒径は、5〜250nmの範囲にある。
On the particle surface of the
炭素材120が粒子形状となって拡散することにより、紫外光が照射されるすべての炭素材粒子表面積は、一部表面しか紫外光が照射されない板状炭素材よりも大きく、紫外線が無駄なく炭素材140に向けて照射される。
When the
特に、ランプ30の発光長に合わせて保護部材132を同軸配置することにより、ランプ中心から全方向に向けて溶媒40中の粒子状炭素材120を照射することができる。また、炭素材120が常に流動することによって紫外線が炭素材粒子表面に均質に照射されることになり、炭素材粒子表面に付着物があっても影響を受けにくい。
In particular, by arranging the
炭素材粒子に含まれるsp2結晶構造の炭素同素体は電気伝導性に優れる。そのため、sp3結晶構造の炭素同素体で生成した光励起電子を効率よく、炭素材粒子表面に拡散し、二酸化炭素の還元に費やすことができる。また、光触媒反応では、光励起電子とともに正孔が生成するため、この正孔を効率よく消費することで、光触媒反応が阻害されることなく継続して進行する。 The carbon allotrope of sp 2 crystal structure contained in the carbon material particles is excellent in electrical conductivity. Therefore, the photoexcited electrons generated from the carbon allotrope having the sp 3 crystal structure can be efficiently diffused on the surface of the carbon material particle and used for the reduction of carbon dioxide. Further, in the photocatalytic reaction, holes are generated together with photoexcited electrons. Therefore, by efficiently consuming these holes, the photocatalytic reaction proceeds continuously without being inhibited.
この正孔の消費のためにも、酸化を促進する還元体の存在が必要であり、sp3結晶構造に比べ弱いsp2結晶構造の炭素同位体が、それを担う。すなわち、炭素材表面にsp3結晶構造とsp2結晶構造が混在していることによって、効率のよい光触媒反応が実現される。 In order to consume holes, it is necessary to have a reductant that promotes oxidation, and the carbon isotope having a weak sp 2 crystal structure as compared with the sp 3 crystal structure bears this. That is, an efficient photocatalytic reaction can be realized by mixing the sp 3 crystal structure and the sp 2 crystal structure on the carbon material surface.
炭素材の粒径が5nmより小さいと、炭素材を粒子状に成形するときsp2結晶構造の表面積割合が増加し、二酸化炭素還元の反応効率が低下する。一方、炭素材の粒径が250nmより大きいと炭素材粒子数が少なくなり、反応効率が上がらない。そのため、炭素材の粒径は5nm〜250nmの範囲にある。特に、炭素材120の一次粒径を20nm〜30nmの範囲にすることにより、効果的に光触媒反応を促進することができる。
When the particle size of the carbon material is smaller than 5 nm, the surface area ratio of the sp 2 crystal structure increases when the carbon material is formed into particles, and the reaction efficiency of carbon dioxide reduction decreases. On the other hand, when the particle size of the carbon material is larger than 250 nm, the number of carbon material particles decreases, and the reaction efficiency does not increase. Therefore, the particle size of the carbon material is in the range of 5 nm to 250 nm. In particular, by making the primary particle size of the
なお、炭素材は、板状、粒子形状に限定されず、メッシュ形状など用途に応じた形状に定めることが可能である。また、人工ダイヤモンド以外のsp3結晶構造をもつ炭素同素体から成る炭素材を用いてもよい。また、sp3結晶構造をもつ炭素同素体以外の炭素同素体あるいは炭素以外の物質を含むように炭素材を構成してもよい。 Note that the carbon material is not limited to a plate shape or a particle shape, and can be determined in a shape according to the application such as a mesh shape. Further, a carbon material made of a carbon allotrope having an sp 3 crystal structure other than artificial diamond may be used. Further, the carbon material may be configured to include a carbon allotrope other than the carbon allotrope having an sp 3 crystal structure or a substance other than carbon.
光源ユニットの配置については、炭素材に紫外光を照射する配置構成であればよい。紫外光以外の光で炭素材を励起させることも可能であり、光源装置以外の構成で光エネルギーを供給させるようにしてもよい。さらには、電気エネルギーなど光エネルギー以外のエネルギーを供給することによって励起させることも可能である。光源装置については、保護部材を用いず、光源の発光部を直接溶媒中に配置してもよい。 The arrangement of the light source unit may be any arrangement configuration that irradiates the carbon material with ultraviolet light. It is also possible to excite the carbon material with light other than ultraviolet light, and light energy may be supplied with a configuration other than the light source device. Further, excitation can be performed by supplying energy other than light energy such as electric energy. About a light source device, you may arrange | position the light emission part of a light source directly in a solvent, without using a protection member.
