Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a driving method of a developing device, and an image forming apparatus in a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, or a complex machine including the developing device driving method.
In an image forming apparatus in a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile machine, or a composite machine thereof, an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive member as a latent image carrier is processed with a developer supplied from a developing device. Is done.
In such an image forming apparatus, in recent years, energy saving and long life have been demanded from the viewpoint of environmental problems. Therefore, the toner as a developer used for development has a low melting point, and the temperature during the fixing operation is reduced to save energy in the developing operation. The fluidity is improved by applying an external additive to the toner, Measures such as reducing wear on the surface of the photoreceptor due to friction with the photoreceptor have been taken.
However, such a low-melting-point toner has a low glass transition temperature Tg of the adhesive resin of the particle base as the fixing temperature is lowered, and the toner is likely to be fixed other than during the fixing operation. For this reason, the toner is heated by the frictional heat between the developing roller and the regulating member generated in the developing process, and is fixed and stays on these members. Further, such a stagnant material is also generated when the added external additive is released from the toner during the development process.
Further, there is a problem that stagnant substances are generated on the regulating member and clogging occurs, so that the toner layer of the developing roller becomes non-uniform and image formation failure occurs.
Many inventions have already been made to remove the accumulated matter in the developing device. In Patent Document 1 (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2008-233119), as shown in FIG. The toner on the surface is scraped again by the
In
In view of such circumstances, in the present invention, it is possible to drive the developing device that can periodically remove the accumulated matter accumulated between the developer carrying member and the regulating member and can stably perform the image forming operation over a long period of time. It aims to provide a method.
In order to solve the above-described problems, the present invention provides a developer carrier that visualizes the latent image by supplying a developer to the latent image carrier on which a latent image is formed, and a surface of the developer carrier. In a developing device, comprising: a regulating member that regulates a layer thickness of a developer carried on the substrate; a supply member that supplies the developer to the developer carrying member; and one or more application units that apply a voltage. A driving method of a developing device for driving a developer carrier in a state where an intensity of a supply electric field for moving the developer from the supply member to the developer carrier during an image forming operation is weaker than that during an image forming operation It is characterized by.
In the driving method of the developing device of the present invention, during the non-image forming operation, the developer carrier is driven in a state where the strength of the supplied electric field is weaker than that during the image forming operation, so that the developer carrier is placed on the surface of the developer carrier. The developer layer to be formed is in a thinner layer than during image formation. By driving the developer carrier with the developer layer on the developer carrier thinner than usual, the stay on the surface of the regulating member comes into direct contact with the developer carrier, or during image forming operations. Since the contact is made through the thinner developer layer, the accumulated matter is easily removed. For this reason, it is possible to efficiently remove the staying matter staying in the developing device and stably perform the image forming operation over a long period of time.

The discharge unit 8 is provided on the most downstream side of the
The basic operation of the
In the
Next, the
On the other hand, when the image forming operation is started, in the lower part of the
The recording paper P to which the toner image has been transferred is conveyed to the fixing
The above description is an image forming operation when a full-color image is formed on the recording paper P. A single color image can be formed using any one of the four
As shown in FIG. 2, the developing
It is preferable that the inside of the
The first conveying
The
The toner transported from the
The third conveying
When each conveying member is constituted by a screw, the toner conveying speed increases in proportion to the screw pitch. This is because the amount of toner conveyed per one rotation of the screw increases according to the screw pitch, and the same effect can be obtained even if the screw diameter is increased.
The second conveying
The
The
The developing
The toner image visualized on the surface of the
After the transfer, the toner remaining on the surface of the
The
A voltage is applied to the
As shown in FIG. 3, the toner scraped off by the
As described above, stagnant matter accumulates on the surface of the
Here, a driving method of the driving device according to the present invention, which is a driving method for removing the staying matter (hereinafter, removal driving) will be described.
In the removal driving operation, during the non-image forming operation, the developing
As shown in FIG. 4, by not charging the developing
By driving the developing
Further, it is conceivable that the same voltage as that applied to the
During the removal drive, the developing
In this way, the removed staying matter is not conveyed to the
The accumulated matter transferred to the
The remaining matter removed by the
As described above, in the driving method of the developing device of the present invention, the accumulated matter at the
The
The removal driving operation is desirably performed after the preliminary operation for the image forming operation, before the start of image formation, or immediately after the end of a series of image forming operations. Since the driving distance of the developing
For this reason, the removal drive can be reliably performed by performing the removal drive at the above-described timing. The removal drive can be performed in the order of image formation → removal drive → image formation between a series of image forming operations. In this case, however, an abnormal image may be formed during subsequent image formation. Therefore, it is desirable to carry out after completion of a series of image formation (or after preliminary operation and before image formation).
The removal driving operation is desirably performed every 100 to 250 recording sheets or every 100 to 250 m of the driving distance of the
The toner used in the image forming apparatus of the present invention has 4.0 to 7.0 parts by weight of the external additive added to 100 parts by weight of the toner base, and the volume average particle diameter of the toner after the external additive is added. Is in the range of 5.5 to 6.7 μm.
