Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a photopolymerizable inkjet ink, a method for producing the photopolymerizable inkjet ink, and an ink cartridge.
Ink-jet inks often require pigment-based inks because pigments are superior to dyes in terms of various durability. However, unlike a dye that dissolves uniformly in ink, the pigment does not dissolve uniformly in the ink, so it is necessary to disperse the pigment in the ink as uniformly as possible.
In sufficiently low-viscosity pigment-based inks, even if the dispersion state of the pigment in the ink is somewhat bad, it usually does not show a large yield value, but in high-viscosity pigment-based inks having a certain viscosity or higher, temporarily When the dispersion state of the pigment in the ink is not good and is easy to aggregate, the ink exhibits a remarkable structural viscosity and the yield value becomes large.
Under such conditions, it is difficult to eject an ink in a stationary state (without fluidity) in an initial state (a state in which no shear stress is applied) with a general ink jet ejection head.
In order to stably eject the stationary ink, it is necessary to apply a considerable shear stress to the ink to cause the ink to flow, and the yield value of the ink must be smaller than the shear stress that can be applied by the inkjet ejection head. I must.

These inks contain an organic solvent, and the addition of the organic solvent makes it easy to reduce the viscosity of the ink.
However, in recent years, from the viewpoint of environmental protection, it has been desired not to release VOC (volatile organic solvent) to the atmosphere, and characteristics such as quick-drying and toughness of the coating film that are not found in existing ink-jet inks. The photopolymerizable ink-jet ink possessed has been widely studied mainly for industrial applications.
However, it is difficult to reduce the viscosity of a photopolymerizable inkjet ink substantially free of an organic solvent, and a monomer having a relatively high molecular weight such as a polyfunctional monomer is used to obtain good curability. The ink viscosity tends to be high, and it is difficult to achieve both good ejection characteristics and high toughness after curing.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a photopolymerizable inkjet ink that is compatible with both good ejection characteristics and curability and substantially does not contain a volatile organic solvent.

The photopolymerizable inkjet ink of the present invention will be described in detail.
The present invention is a photopolymerizable inkjet ink comprising at least carbon black, a polymer dispersant, and a photopolymerizable monomer, wherein the polymer dispersant contains an amount more than the amount of saturated adsorption on carbon black, In particular, it does not contain volatile organic solvents.
By containing more than the amount of saturated dispersant adsorbed to carbon black as a polymer dispersant, the adsorbed dispersant is less likely to be detached, so that the dispersibility of carbon black, that is, the repulsive force between particles is improved, and carbon black particles The interaction in which the particles are aggregated is weakened, and the flow can be started with a minute shear stress.
Here, “substantially free of volatile organic solvent” means that a volatile organic solvent is not used as a material for the photopolymerizable inkjet ink, and other materials such as a polymer dispersion stabilizer and a photopolymerizable monomer are used. It does not mean that volatile organic solvents derived from materials are not included.
(Carbon black)
As the carbon black, conventionally known carbon black such as channel black, loin black, disc black, gas furnace black, oil furnace black, acetylene black and the like can be used.
The content of carbon black is preferably 2% by weight or more and 10% by weight or less. If it is less than 2% by weight, the image density is lowered, and if it exceeds 10% by weight, the dispersion stability is lowered and the yield value tends to increase.
(Polymer dispersion stabilizer)
As the polymer dispersion stabilizer, conventionally known polymer stabilizers can be used, but those having a polar functional group are preferable. By having a polar functional group, it becomes easy to adsorb to carbon black, dispersibility is improved, and an ink that easily starts to flow can be created.
Examples of the polymer dispersion stabilizer include a hydroxyl group-containing carboxylic acid ester, a salt of a long chain polyaminoamide and a high molecular weight acid ester, a salt of a high molecular weight polycarboxylic acid, a salt of a long chain polyaminoamide and a polar acid ester, Saturated acid ester, modified polyurethane, modified polyacrylate, polyether ester type anionic activator, naphthalene sulfonic acid formalin condensate salt, polyoxyethylene alkyl phosphate ester, polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether, polyester polyamine, stearylamine acetate, etc. Among them, a polyester-based polymer stabilizer having a polar functional group such as an amino group has a high adsorptive power to carbon black, has good dispersibility in a photopolymerizable monomer as described later, and Is viscosity decreasing ability large? It can be preferably used.
As such a polymer stabilizer, commercial products such as Nippon Lubrizol Solsperse, Enomoto Kasei Disparon, Ajinomoto Finetech Ajisper can be used.
The content of the polymer dispersion stabilizer is not less than the amount that is saturatedly adsorbed on carbon black, and is preferably 5 or less when the amount that is saturatedly adsorbed without excess or deficiency is 1. If the amount is less than the saturated adsorption amount, the dispersion stability of the carbon black is lowered and the yield value is increased. If the amount exceeds 10% by weight from the saturated adsorption amount, the strength of the ink after curing may be lowered.
(Photopolymerizable monomer)
As the photopolymerizable monomer, a (meth) acrylate compound, a (meth) acrylamide compound, a vinyl ether compound, or a mixture thereof can be used, but bifunctional or more photopolymerization that can toughen the ink after curing. It is preferably a photopolymerizable monomer, more preferably a tri- or higher functional photopolymerizable monomer, and further preferably a monofunctional monomer for lowering the viscosity. Further, the methacrylate compound has high safety and can be preferably used.
In addition, in order to provide a safe printed material that does not cause skin sensitization even if the uncured monomer component remains in the printed material and is touched with a finger or the like, a polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate represented by the following formula (1): γ-butyrolactone methacrylate, trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, ethylene oxide-modified trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, tricyclodecane dimethanol dimethacrylate, caprolactone-modified dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate, polypropylene glycol diacrylate represented by the following formula (2), caprolactone Modified hydroxypivalic acid neopentyl glycol ester diacrylate, polyethoxylated tetramethylol methane tetraacrylate, ethylene oxide modified bisphenol Nord A diacrylate, neopentyl glycol dimethacrylate, stearyl (meth) acrylate, isostearyl (meth) acrylate, ethylene oxide modified phenol acrylate, t-butyl methacrylate, n-pentyl methacrylate, n-hexyl methacrylate, diethylene glycol dimethacrylate, 1 It is preferable to use one or more selected from 1,4-butanediol dimethacrylate, triethylene glycol divinyl ether, and hydroxyethylacrylamide.

In use, the needle of the apparatus main body is inserted into the ink discharge port (243) made of a rubber member and supplied to the apparatus.

As the substrate to be printed (2), paper, film, metal, or a composite material thereof is used. Moreover, although the to-be-printed base material (2) has shown the case where it is roll shape in FIG. 3, a sheet form may be sufficient. Further, double-sided printing as well as single-sided printing may be used. Higher curability can be obtained by irradiating ultraviolet rays each time each color is printed to increase printing speed. For example, the ultraviolet light sources (4a, 4b, 4c) are weakened or omitted, and a plurality of colors can be obtained. Energy saving and cost reduction can be achieved by irradiating and curing a sufficient amount of ultraviolet rays together (4d) after printing.

With respect to the
FIG. 4 shows the relationship between the amount of polymer dispersant adsorbed on carbon black and the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant.
The measurement results of the amount of adsorption of the polymer dispersant in the above
Therefore, if the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant is less than 2%, the adsorption is not saturated, and if the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant is 2% or more, the adsorption is saturated, and the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant is 2%. It is found that the polymer dispersant is adsorbed without excess and deficiency, and when the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant exceeds 5% and 5% and 10%, it is excessive blending with respect to saturated adsorption. Although not shown in the figure, no adsorption amount was observed for the
The adsorption amount was measured as follows.
(1) The dispersion was centrifuged, and the obtained solid content was washed with acetone, and only the carbon black adsorbed with the polymer dispersant was taken out.
(2) The carbon black collected above was baked at 450 ° C., and the weight loss before and after calcination was taken as the adsorption amount. In addition, it has been confirmed in advance that carbon black itself has a slight weight loss under the same firing conditions and almost no change in state. However, the amount of adsorption has been corrected by taking into account the slightly observed weight loss of carbon black itself. Was calculated.
(3) The amount of adsorbing polymer dispersant per unit weight of carbon black is converted into the specific surface area of carbon black used (29 m 2 / g: catalog value), and the amount of adsorption per carbon black surface area is shown in FIG. It was.

The yield values of the
(Yield value)
The yield value was calculated from Casson's Plot shown by the following formula (1) based on the viscosity value measured by changing the shear rate.
√τ = √η∞ × √D + √τ0 (1)
(Where τ is shear stress (Pa), D is shear rate (1 / sec), √η∞ and √τ0 are constants)
Casson's Plot graphed with √τ on the vertical axis and √D on the horizontal axis is widely used for analyzing rheological properties because good linearity can be obtained in a pigment dispersion system.
Here, √τ0 corresponds to the intercept of the vertical axis in the graph, and the square thereof, that is, τ0 is the yield value.
The Casson's Plot of the above data is not shown here, but good linearity has been confirmed, and it has been confirmed that the application of the above formula is appropriate.

(Inkjet ejection)
The black ink was heated to 60 ° C. by the inkjet discharge head GEN4 manufactured by Ricoh Printing Systems, and the discharge evaluation was performed.
○: Can be discharged ×: Cannot be discharged
* 1: Even if the container was tilted, the fluidity was so poor that it did not flow due to its own weight, and the viscosity could not be measured because it exceeded the measurement upper limit of the viscometer used, and the yield value could not be obtained.
* 2: It was difficult to supply ink to the ejection head via the ink flow path, and ejection evaluation could not be performed.
Since Comparative Examples 1 and 4 use a carbon black dispersion in which the polymer dispersant is not saturated and adsorbed to carbon black, it is considered that sufficient dispersibility is not obtained. As a result, the yield value became very large and inkjet discharge could not be performed.
Comparative Examples 2 and 5 use a carbon black dispersion liquid in which the polymer dispersant is saturatedly adsorbed with respect to the carbon black. However, due to dilution due to the ink formation, the blending ratio of the polymer dispersant as the ink is a pigment. It was thought that the dispersion was not sufficient, and although it was slight, the yield value was large and inkjet discharge could not be performed.
Comparative Examples 3 and 6 use carbon black dispersions using polymer dispersants having different polar groups, but have poor fluidity to such an extent that viscosity cannot be measured, and have a considerably large yield value. It was thought that there was even a discharge evaluation.
In Examples 1 and 3, a high-concentration carbon black dispersion in which a polymer dispersant was added excessively beyond the saturated adsorption amount to the carbon black was used, but the dispersibility of the carbon black was not impaired. Therefore, the yield value can be suppressed to 0.2 Pa or less, and inkjet discharge can be performed. Therefore, the ink can be used without diluting the polymer dispersant in advance when diluting the ink. It can be seen that the polymer dispersant only needs to be saturated and adsorbed to the carbon black therein.
Examples 2 and 4 use a carbon black dispersion in which a polymer dispersant is saturated and adsorbed to carbon black without excess or deficiency, and use a dilute solution in which a polymer dispersant is dissolved in advance, and carbon in an ink. By adding a polymer dispersing agent that is saturated and adsorbed to black, the dispersibility of carbon black is not impaired even by dilution accompanying ink formation, and as a result, the yield value can be suppressed to 0.2 Pa or less, and inkjet discharge can be performed. .
