Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a laminate type air battery.
In recent years, miniaturization of portable electronic devices has been progressing rapidly, and the power source is also required to have a high energy density. An air battery using oxygen in the air as a positive electrode active material has a higher capacity than a lithium secondary battery that is currently widely used, and is promising as a next-generation power source. As an air battery, for example, a lithium air battery, a magnesium air battery, a zinc air battery, and the like are known.
However, air batteries have a problem of electrolyte leakage, and various measures have been taken in recent years to prevent electrolyte leakage. For example, in patent document 1, the electrolyte solution is prevented from leaking by quasi-solidifying the electrolyte solution using an electrolyte layer containing an ionic liquid, inorganic fine particles, and an electrolyte salt. The leakage of the electrolyte outside the outer casing of the air battery can be solved by a conventional proposal, but inside the outer casing of the air battery, a small amount of the electrolyte flows out from the electrolyte layer and wraps around the negative electrode current collector. There is a problem in that a short circuit occurs between the layer and the negative electrode current collector, causing a significant capacity reduction due to self-discharge.
Laminate type air batteries have a higher degree of freedom in terms of their structural components and manufacturing conditions compared to other shapes of air batteries, so a small amount of electrolyte negative electrode that flows out of the electrolyte layer inside the exterior body It tends to occur around the current collector.
The present invention has been accomplished in view of the above circumstances, and provides a laminate type air battery capable of suppressing a small amount of electrolyte flowing out from an electrolyte layer from flowing into a negative electrode current collector inside an exterior body. For the purpose.
In the present invention, an electrode assembly in which an electrolyte layer including a positive electrode layer, a negative electrode layer, and an insulating support that is disposed between the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer is provided, and the electrode joint A negative electrode layer rather than a marginal portion of the electrolyte layer, the outer layer comprising an exterior film that holds the body and restrains the positive and negative electrode layers and the electrolyte layer included in the electrode assembly in the stacking direction. A laminated air battery is provided in which at least a part of the battery is extended in the in-plane direction.
In the present invention, the area of the negative electrode layer facing the electrolyte layer in the in-plane direction is preferably 5% or more larger than the area of the electrolyte layer facing the negative electrode layer.
A conventional air battery includes a positive electrode layer, a negative electrode layer, and a single cell including an electrode assembly in which an electrolyte layer including an insulating support that is disposed between the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer is provided. And an exterior body that restrains the single cell in the stacking direction of the positive and negative electrode layers and the electrolyte layer, and the edge of the electrolyte layer extends in the in-plane direction from the edge of the negative electrode layer. That is, when the single cell is viewed from directly below, the edge portion of the electrolyte layer protrudes from the edge portion of the negative electrode layer.
In the air battery in which the edge of the electrolyte layer is extended in the in-plane direction than the edge of the conventional negative electrode layer, the distance until the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer wraps around the negative electrode current collector is short, It is impossible to prevent a small amount of the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer from entering the negative electrode current collector inside the exterior body.
The air battery of the present invention has a longer distance until the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer wraps around the negative electrode current collector by extending the edge of the negative electrode layer in the in-plane direction than the edge of the electrolyte layer. Therefore, it is possible to suppress a small amount of the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer from entering the negative electrode current collector inside the exterior body.
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, the lamination type air battery which can suppress the wraparound to the negative electrode collector of the small amount of electrolyte solution which flowed out from the electrolyte layer inside an exterior body can be provided.

The sealing method of the exterior body made of the exterior film is not particularly limited. For example, a single cell including an electrode assembly is sandwiched between the upper surface side film and the lower surface side film, and the peripheral portion is thermally welded or an adhesive is used. There is a method of sealing by adhesion.
In addition, even if an exterior body is not a laminate type, as long as it restrains an electrode assembly, the existing various exterior bodies can be used. Examples of the exterior body include a square can and a coin can.
The exterior body made of the exterior film has (a) airtightness, (b) electrical insulation without permeating the electrolytic solution, and chemical resistance that does not react with the electrolytic solution. The thickness of the metal layer is preferably between 10 and 150 μm, more preferably between 25 and 75 μm.
The intermediate layer can have a multilayer structure including a metal layer in consideration of the balance of the properties (a) to (c). For example, glass, synthetic resin, ceramics, metal, etc. may be used in combination to optimize the balance of properties (a) to (c).

Examples of the binder include polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) styrene / butadiene rubber (SBR), and the like. Although it does not specifically limit as content of the binder contained in the said positive electrode layer, For example, it is preferable that it is 1 to 40 weight%, and it is especially preferable that it is 10 to 30 weight%. When the binder content is 10% by weight or more, the positive electrode layer can be easily formed. On the other hand, when the binder content is 30% by weight or less, a desired reaction can be efficiently advanced without reducing the reaction field of the positive electrode.
Examples of the method for preparing the positive electrode layer include a slurry method. When the positive electrode layer is prepared by a slurry method, examples of the solvent include solvents having a boiling point of 200 ° C. or lower, such as acetone, ethanol, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), and the like. Examples of the slurry application method include a doctor blade method and an ink jet method. After applying the slurry to the current collector or the carrier film, the positive electrode layer can be formed by drying, rolling and cutting. When a porous metal is used as the current collector, a part of the positive electrode layer can be infiltrated into the current collector by applying a slurry. Moreover, the method of crimping | bonding to the collector the thing which dried and rolled the electrode composition which adjusted the slurry to the clay form to the film form may be sufficient. The thickness of the positive electrode layer varies depending on the application of the air battery and the like, but is preferably in the range of 2 to 500 μm, particularly in the range of 5 to 300 μm. Further, the area ratio of the positive electrode layer to the electrolyte layer in the in-plane direction is not particularly limited.
The positive electrode current collector has a porous structure as long as it can exist stably in the operating range (2 to 4.5 V (vs lithium)) of an air battery and has a desired electronic conductivity. However, from the viewpoint of the diffusibility of air (oxygen), those having a porous structure are preferable. Examples of the porous structure include a mesh structure in which constituent fibers are regularly arranged, a nonwoven fabric structure in which constituent fibers are randomly arranged, and a three-dimensional network structure having independent holes and connecting holes. The porosity of the current collector having a porous structure is not particularly limited, but is preferably in the range of 20 to 99%, for example.
Examples of the material for the positive electrode current collector include metal materials such as stainless steel, nickel, aluminum, iron, titanium, and copper, carbon materials such as carbon fiber and carbon paper, and high electron conductive ceramic materials such as titanium nitride. Can be mentioned. The current collector using carbon material has high corrosion resistance, and when the strong alkaline metal oxide is generated by the discharge reaction at the positive electrode, it suppresses the current collector from eluting, resulting in the battery characteristics. It has the merit that the fall of can be suppressed. Preferred specific positive electrode current collectors include carbon paper and metal mesh. The thickness of the positive electrode current collector is not particularly limited as long as the current collector itself is not curved when the cell is constrained. For example, the thickness is preferably 10 to 1000 μm, particularly preferably 20 to 400 μm.

(Negative electrode)
The negative electrode layer contains at least a negative electrode active material. In the negative electrode layer, metal ions are occluded / released in response to the reaction at the positive electrode.
The negative electrode active material is not particularly limited as long as it can occlude and release metal ions. The metal ion is not particularly limited as long as it moves between the positive electrode and the negative electrode to generate an electromotive force, and specifically, lithium ion, sodium ion, aluminum ion, magnesium ion, cesium ion. Among them, lithium ions are preferable.

Specific examples include metallic lithium, lithium alloys, metallic oxides, metallic sulfides, metallic nitrides, and carbon materials such as graphite. Among these, metallic lithium is more preferable from the viewpoint of increasing capacity.
In the present invention, the negative electrode layer may contain at least a negative electrode active material, but may contain a binder for immobilizing the negative electrode active material, if necessary. About the kind of binder, usage-amount, etc., since it is the same as that of the content described in the positive electrode mentioned above, description here is abbreviate | omitted.
The material of the negative electrode current collector is not particularly limited as long as it can stably exist in the operating range (2 to 4.5 V (vs lithium)) of a lithium-air battery and has conductivity. For example, copper, stainless steel, nickel, etc. can be mentioned. Examples of the shape of the negative electrode current collector include a foil shape, a plate shape, and a mesh shape. The thickness of the negative electrode current collector is not particularly limited as long as the current collector itself is not curved when the cell is constrained, and is preferably 10 to 1000 μm, particularly preferably 20 to 400 μm, for example.
The present invention is greatly characterized in the in-plane size of the negative electrode layer with respect to the electrolyte layer. That is, the edge part of the negative electrode layer extends in the in-plane direction from the edge part of the electrolyte layer.
In the present invention, the “in-plane direction” means a direction intersecting with the stacking direction, preferably a direction perpendicular to the stacking direction. That is, the state of “extending in the in-plane direction” means a state in which the edge of the negative electrode layer protrudes from the edge of the electrolyte layer when the single cell is viewed from directly above.
Specifically, the cases as shown in FIGS.
As described above, the edge of the negative electrode layer is extended in the in-plane direction from the edge of the electrolyte layer, so that the distance until the electrolyte flowing out of the electrolyte layer wraps around the negative electrode current collector is increased. Therefore, it is possible to suppress a small amount of the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer from entering the negative electrode current collector inside the exterior body.
If the small amount of the electrolyte flowing out from the electrolyte layer can be prevented from entering the negative electrode current collector, at least a part of the edge of the negative electrode layer may extend in the in-plane direction from the edge of the electrolyte layer. That's fine. That is, it is sufficient that at least a part of the edge portion of the negative electrode layer protrudes from the edge portion of the electrolyte layer when the single cell is viewed from directly above. Here, the “at least part” in the present invention is not particularly limited in shape, but is preferably a site where wraparound is predicted or a site that can actually occur.
The area ratio of the negative electrode layer to the electrolyte layer in the in-plane direction depends on the viscosity of the electrolytic solution, the content of the electrolytic solution with respect to the insulating support, the thickness of the electrolyte layer, and the like. The area of the negative electrode layer is more preferably 5% to 20% larger than the area of the electrolyte layer from the viewpoint of not greatly reducing the effective power generation area to be used for power generation of the electrode layer.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described more specifically with reference to examples and comparative examples. However, the present invention is not limited to these examples.

Were prepared by stirring and mixing overnight. The viscosity of the electrolytic solution was about 150 mPa · s.
The electrolyte was contained in the separator so that the content of the electrolyte was about 20%, and an electrolyte layer was produced. The thickness of the electrolyte layer was about 100 μm.
A metal lithium foil was used as a material for the negative electrode layer. The size of the negative electrode layer in the in-plane direction was such that the area of the negative electrode layer was 5% larger than the area of the electrolyte layer. A 1 mm thick SUS304 foil, which is a negative electrode current collector, was pressure bonded to the negative electrode layer to produce a negative electrode. Furthermore, one end of the negative electrode terminal was connected to a portion where the negative electrode current collector of the obtained negative electrode was exposed.
Thereafter, a negative electrode, an electrolyte layer, and a positive electrode were sequentially laminated. This laminate was accommodated in an airtight laminate film for an exterior body provided with air holes. The laminate film is a three-layer structure in which low-density polyethylene (PE) having a thickness of 40 μm is used as an inner layer and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) having a thickness of 16 μm is bonded to an aluminum layer having a thickness of 40 μm as an intermediate layer using an adhesive. The structure was used. Moreover, the other end of the positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal was extended from the opening part of the laminate film.

(Comparative Example 1)
A laminated air battery was produced in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the in-plane areas of the electrolyte layer and the negative electrode layer were equal.
(Confirmation of wraparound of electrolyte to negative electrode current collector)
Electrode solution wraps around the negative electrode current collector when the negative electrode is short-circuited in a nondestructive test (when the voltage shows an abnormal value such as zero or ± ∞ in the charge / discharge test, and the AC impedance method) When the negative electrode component was very small or disappeared, the battery was disassembled and visually confirmed.
In Example 1, wraparound of the electrolyte solution to the negative electrode current collector did not occur.
In Comparative Example 1, the electrolyte solution wraps around the negative electrode current collector.
From the above results, it can be seen that, compared with Comparative Example 1, Example 1 suppresses the occurrence of the wraparound of the electrolytic solution to the negative electrode current collector.
