Abstract

【課題】本発明は顧客の家庭内にビデオ貯蔵器を構築する記録及び読み出し装置の提供を目的とする。
【解決手段】大容量記憶技術と適当な技術的手段とによって、放送者は特定のチャンネルを介して多数の番組を伝送し、顧客は、番組を記録、読み出し及び消去することにより自分の貯蔵器の内容を管理する。本発明は、放送者又は顧客自身によって定期的に更新されるビデオライブラリを構成するビデオ貯蔵器を有する顧客の家庭内のオンデマンドビデオシステムに適用できる。

Description

本発明は、無線放送、衛星又はケーブルネットワークによって少なくとも一つのチャンネル上に個別の番組として放送されたオーディオ及び／又はビデオ情報の記録及び読み出しの方法及び装置に関する。
近年のオーディオビジュアル技術の発達によって、多数の国で、視聴者が関心のある番組を全て観るための許容量を上回るテレビジョン番組の選択ができるようになった。このことは、特に、ディジタル伝送を提供する衛星テレビジョンと、ケーブルネットワークとを有する国において顕著である。実際上、テレビジョンの視聴者は、同時に１チャンネルしか観ないので、実現可能ならば、同時に別の番組をビデオカセットレコーダ（ＶＣＲ）に録画する。
視聴者が同時に放送された幾つかの番組に関心があるとき、或いは、家族の中の好みの違う何人かが同じテレビジョンセットを共有しているとき、問題が生じる。この問題を解決するため、一つの解決策は、単純に多数のテレビジョン及びビデオカセットレコーダを所有することであるが、この解決策はコスト高であり、数台のレコーダを並列的に補正及び使用することは問題がある。
視聴者は、自分がテレビを観ていないとき（仕事をしている日中、或いは、夜間に）、多数のテレビ番組を録画することを望む。従来の解決法は、予め選択された多数の番組を時間的に順番に録画するようビデオレコーダをプログラムすることである。しかし、番組が予告された時間に放送されなかった場合、問題が生じる。更に、従来のビデオカセットの記録容量（最長でも数時間）が制限されている点が問題である。上記制約は、関心のある番組を記録するユーザの選択の自由を著しく制限する。
ライブ放送されるテレビジョンチャンネルの数が急速に増加するのと並行して、多数の補助サービスが提供されている。例えば、“オンデマンドビデオ”サービスによれば、顧客はサーバーシステム内の映画を選択し得るようになり、次いで、支払いと引換えに番組がユーザに送られ始める。このようなシステムは、多数の顧客からの別々の映画に対する同時的な要求に答えるため大容量サーバーと、広帯域ネットワークとを必要とする。顧客は、ネットワークの動作状態と、サーバーによって提供される映画の分類に完全に依存する。
本発明の目的は、顧客が個人的なビデオ及び／又はオーディオライブラリを構築できるように大容量の記録装置を家庭で所有できる技術を提供することである。
本発明の他の目的は、顧客が自分専用のビデオ貯蔵器からの番組の選択及び表示を完全に制御する純粋のオンデマンドビデオサービスを顧客に提供することである。
本発明の他の目的は、番組の配給者が、顧客の記録装置に記録されたビデオ及び／又はオーディオ番組へのアクセスを管理し、及び／又は、放送番組を暗号化することにより、自分の番組によって生成された収益を確実に得られるようにすることである。
本発明の他の目的は、顧客が個人アクセスコードを用いて自分のビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器へのアクセスを管理し、及び／又は、関心のある番組だけを観る又は聴くために選択することにより、記録された番組の中のある番組を復号化する際に自分の支出を制限できるようにすることである。
本発明の他の目的は、顧客が自分で管理する記録装置内にビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築できるようにすることである。
本発明の他の目的は、放送者によって内容が定期的に更新され、顧客は自分のビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器の内容の更新中に、記録された番組を観ることができるビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器を提供することである。
従って、本発明は、無線放送、衛星又はケーブルネットワークによって少なくとも一つのチャンネルを介して個別の番組として放送されたオーディオ及び／又はビデオ情報の記録及び読み出しの方法である。上記本発明の方法は：
− 受信用の少なくとも一つのチャンネルを選択する段階と；
− 受信された信号をディジタル的に符号化する段階と；
− 上記符号化されたディジタル信号を大容量記録媒体に記録する段階と；
− 上記記録媒体上に記録された個別の各番組のインデックスを作成する段階と；
− 記録された番組の少なくとも一つのメニューを作成する段階と；
− スクリーン上に表示された記録された番組のメニューから少なくとも一つの番組を選択する段階と；
− 上記選択された番組を読み出す段階と；
− 上記読み出された信号を復号化する段階と；
− 対応するオーディオ及び／又はビデオ情報を再生する段階とからなる。
上記受信された信号は、アナログ又はディジタルの何れでもよい。アナログ信号が受信された場合、アナログ・ディジタル変換が行なわれる。
上記方法は、記録された番組から少なくとも一つの番組の読み出しを可能にするため、アクセス制御段階を含むことがある。少なくとも一つのアクセスコードの使用は、放送者及び顧客によって定められた規準を適用することによって変更されるべき記録された番組へのアクセスを許可する。この態様で、放送者は、ある種の番組のタイプへのアクセスを制御し、顧客が上記番組へのアクセスを得るため支払うべき予約代金の額を調整することが可能である。これは、複数の放送者が放送者の間で予約代金に違いがある番組を提供する場合にも適用される。ユーザ側では、アクセスコードによって、他人がそのサービスにアクセスすることを完全に阻止し、或いは、子供たちが成人向け番組にアクセスすることを防止することが可能になる。
本発明の方法は、更に、音声又は映像を再生するため、符号化された番組を記録し、読み出し中に特定のコードを用いてそれらを復号化することが可能である。かかるサービスによれば、顧客は記録された番組の中のある番組を復号化する際に支出を管理することが可能になる。上記特定のコードは、銀行カード又はクレジッドカードの番号でもよく、番組の復号化を望むときに支払いが行なわれる。
記録及び読み出し機能は、他の番組を記録している間に少なくとも一つの記録された番組の読み出しを可能にするため、相互に無関係であることが有利である。従って、顧客は自分のビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器の内容を何時でも更新することが可能である。
本発明の方法は、好ましくは、ユーザによって指定された番組が消去できないように安全機構が設けられる。このような態様によって、ユーザは保護された記録の個人的なコレクションを構築することが可能である。記録の中の一つを削除するため、ユーザは最初に安全機構を解除し、次いで、記録媒体から削除すべき記録を消去する。
本発明は、ユーザがより素早く自分のビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器を更新できるように、幾つかの番組を同時に記録及び／又は読み出し可能であり、かつ、例えば、幾つかの記録された番組を同時に表示するため数台のテレビジョンセットを並列的に使用することにより、記録された番組の再生の際により高い柔軟性が得られる利点がある。同様のことがオーディオ番組の場合にも当てはまる。従って、家族の中の数人が、別々の部屋で独立に記録された番組を観たり、聴いたりすることができる。
本発明には、更に、上記本発明の方法を実行する“ビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器”と呼ばれる記録及び読み出し装置が含まれる。上記装置は：
− 少なくとも一つの放送中チャンネルを同時に受信可能にする受信周波数選択手段と；
− 受信された信号をディジタル符号化する手段と；
− 上記符号化されたディジタル信号を記録し、読み出す手段と；
− 別々に制御されるべきプログラムの記録及び読み出しを可能にする制御手段と；
− （場合によっては、同時、かつ、互いに独立に、幾つかの記録された番組を並列的に読み出し、再生する能力がある）サウンド及び／又は映像を再生するため上記信号を処理する手段とからなる。
上記記録及び読み出し手段は、“貯蔵器”の構成を可能にさせるため大容量記録媒体を含む。上記貯蔵器は、非常に多数のビデオ及び／又はオーディオ番組（音楽、ニュース、会議等）を格納できなければならない。
フランス国特許第２ ６３０ ８５３号明細書、第２ ６５６ ７２３号明細書及び第２ ６９９ ７２４号明細書には、大量の情報を格納し得る磁気テーブ上で記録及び読み出しを行なう技術が開示されている。概略的に言うと、上記技術は、Ｎ×Ｍ個の別個の記録素子（Ｎ≧２及びＭ≧１）のマトリックスからなる静磁気光学式記録ヘッド上を動く磁気テープを使用する。別個の記録素子を励起するプロトコルを用いることにより、最大Ｎ列の平行な情報のトラックを記録することが可能である。磁気テープの読み取りのため、静磁気光学式ヘッドは、偏光された光を磁気テープ上に投射させ、その光は、照明されたトラックの磁気分極の関数として磁気テープから反射されたとき、カー効果によって偏光を変える。センサは反射された偏光を、Ｎ個の平行トラック上に記録されたデータを表わす２進数のストリームに変換する。上記引用した特許には、マトリックス形ヘッドを用いることにより、磁気テープのＮ個の平行トラック上の記録及び読み出しと、幾つかの番組の同時、独立な記録及び読み出しと、８ｍｍ磁気テープカセットの最大で約１００時間のビデオ番組までの記憶容量の増大とが可能になる当該技術がより詳細に記載されている。
更に、ビデオ及び／又はオーディオ貯蔵器を構築するため、ディジタルビデオカセットの技術を使用することが可能である。この技術は、回転式ヘッドを用いて磁気テーブ上で情報を記録及び読み出しを行なうことからなる。ディジタル圧縮を用いることにより、カセットは最大数十時間までのビデオ番組を格納することができる。カセット上のデータの記録及び読み出しのレートがチャンネル上のビデオ番組の放送レート（１乃至８メガビット／秒）よりも数倍大きい場合を想定すると、特定の多重化プロトコルを用いて幾つかの番組を並列的に記録し、逆多重化プロトコルを用いて幾つかの番組を並列的に読み出すことが考えられる。ユーザは並列的に読み出された少なくとも一つの番組を観ることができる。

本発明の装置は、テレビジョンの復号化器又はテレビジョン受像機に組み込まれる。図１に示されたように、本発明の装置は、無線又は衛星放送の場合にはアンテナ２によって捕捉され、或いは、ケーブルネットワークを介して受信された少なくとも一つのチャンネルからの信号を並列的に供給可能である周波数選択手段１を含む。上記周波数選択手段１は、幾つかの番組のチャンネルを並列的に提供するため、少なくとも一つのアナログ及び／又はディジタル方式“チューナ”を含む。上記周波数選択手段１によって出力された信号は、ディジタル符号化器３により処理される。ディジタル符号化器３は、必要に応じて、アナログ信号をディジタル信号に変換し、場合によっては、受信された信号のディジタル圧縮及び／又は多重化を保証する。符号化されたディジタル信号は、大容量記録媒体４ａ上に記録されるべく記録及び読み出し手段４に供給される。制御手段５と、（装置に一体化されたボタン又は遠隔コントローラの形をなす）ユーザインタフェースモジュール６は、ユーザに周波数選択手段１及び記録及び読み出し手段４の制御を可能にさせる。
上記の如く、記録及び読み出し手段４は、マトリックス形ヘッドの磁気記録技術又はディジタルビデオカセットの技術を使用可能であり、ディジタルビデオカセットの例では、少なくとも二つのチャンネルが記録媒体４ａ上に並列的に記録されるべき場合に、ディジタル符号化器３は多重化を保証する。
上記制御手段５は、記録された番組の少なくとも一つのメニューと共に、記録媒体４ａ上に記録された番組のインデックスを作成することが可能である。表示スクリーン７を使用して、ユーザは記録された番組のメニューを調べ、ユーザインタフェース６を介して制御手段５と対話することができる。放送され、記録媒体４ａ上に符号化された形式で記録された番組を復号化するため復号化手段８が設けられ、復号化コマンドは制御手段５を用いて送られる。読み出し中の信号は、別個の番組を並列的に再生するため、圧縮及び／又はデマルチプレクシングを行なうディジタル復号化手段９によってディジタル的に処理される。ディジタル復号化手段９からの信号は、ディジタル形式であり、或いは、適当な装置（テレビジョン受像機、ハイファイ装置セット等）を用いて対応する番組を再生するためディジタル−アナログ変換器１０によってアナログ形式に変換される場合がある。
制御手段５は、記録された番組の読み出し中に、“早送り”、“巻戻し”、“一時停止”、“停止”、“高速読み取り”等の機能を提供する。記録媒体４ａは、記録及び読み出し手段４から取外し自在であるカセットの形であることが有利である。更に、装置の記憶容量を更に増加させるため、記録及び読み出し手段４の記録媒体４ａとして数個のカセットを管理することが可能である。
制御手段５はアクセス制御ユニットを含み、このアクセス制御ユニットによって、ユーザインタフェースモジュール６を介してユーザによって入力された少なくとも一つのアクセスコードが正しい場合に限り、記録された番組の中のある番組の読み出しの認可が与えられる。表示スクリーン７は、記録及び読み出し装置が接続、或いは、組み込まれたテレビジョンのスクリーンでも構わない。或いは、スクリーン７が内蔵された記録及び読み出し装置を作ることも可能である。この場合、ユーザがスクリーンを押すことにより制御手段５と対話することができるよう、スクリーン７は接触感受性タイプのスクリーンでも構わない。この例の場合、ユーザインタフェースモジュール６は、表示スクリーン７と組み合わされている。接触感受性スクリーン７は液晶タイプでもよい。
上記装置は、スマートカードリーダー１２、モデム１３及び制御手段５に接続された支払い管理モジュール１１を含む。ユーザが符号化された番組の視聴を望むとき、例えば、銀行カード上に記憶されている特定のコードをスマートカードリーダー１２によって入力する。次いで、支払い管理モジュール１１は、この金融取引を有効にするため、モデム１３を介してサーバーセンター（図示しない）を呼び出す。支払い管理モジュール１１は、制御手段５にその取引の有効性を通知するので、復号化手段８による番組の復号化を開始させ得る。ユーザは対応する復号化された番組を観ることが可能である。
図２及び図３に表わされた例において、記録された番組のメニューが表示スクリーン７に表示される。明らかに、記録された番組を、例えば、テーマ（スポーツ、政治、映画、ドラマ等）、或いは、タイプ（映画に対し、例えば、アクション、ロマンス、刑事物等）によって幾つかのメニューに分類することができる。ユーザインタフェースモジュール６を用いて、ユーザはメニュー内の特定の番組を選択する。
次いで、制御手段５は、ユーザの個人的なコレクションに選択された番組が含まれている（この場合、番組は安全鍵によって保護されている）かどうかを検査する。既にその番組に安全処置が施されている場合、次のスクリーンに二つの選択肢：“消去”及び“読出”が表示される。上記番組に安全処置が施されていない場合、次のスクリーンには、上記二つの選択肢に加えて“収集”が含まれている。“収集”は、ユーザが制御手段５を介して安全鍵を関連付けることにより、上記番組を自分の個人的なコレクションに追加できるようにする。
選択肢“消去”が選択された場合、次のスクリーンは、ユーザがその選択肢を“確認”或いは“取消”（“消去”が誤って選択された場合）することを要求する。ユーザが“取消”を選択した場合、システムは番組選択スクリーンに戻る。ユーザが“確認”を選択した場合、装置は、番組が安全鍵によって保護されていないならば、その番組を消去する。番組が保護されている場合、ユーザはその番組を消去することが可能であるが、最初に、制御手段５を介して番組の安全処置を解除しなければならない。或いは、最終的に、番組を消去しないように決めることができる。システムは、次に、初期メニューに戻る。
選択肢“収集”が選択された場合、次のスクリーンには、二つの別の選択肢：“確認”或いは“取消”が含まれている。ユーザが“収集”の選択を確認した場合、制御手段５は、番組が直接的に消去されるのを防止するため、安全鍵を番組に割り当てる。次に、システムは初期メニューに戻る。選択肢“取消”が選択された場合、システムは初期メニューに戻るだけである。
選択肢“読出”が選択された場合（図３を参照）、次のスクリーンには、二つの選択肢：“確認”或いは“取消”が同様に含まれている。ユーザが“取消”を選択した場合、システムは初期メニューに戻る。ユーザが“確認”を選択した場合、制御手段５は、選択された番組の直接的な読み出しが許可されているかどうかを検査する。許可されている場合、上記番組が読み出され、一方、許可されていない場合、ユーザは、読み出しが開始可能になる前に正しいアクセスコードを入力しなければならない。アクセスコードが認容されなかった場合には、システムは、選択肢“読出”の二次的な選択肢“確認”及び“取消”を提供する。番組が符号化されている場合、ユーザは、そのことに気付き、（例えば、銀行カードを用いて）特別のコードを入力する。上記特別のコードは、照合の後、番組の復号化を許可する。上記特別のコードが認容されないならば、システムは、選択肢“読出”の二次的な選択肢“確認”及び“取消”を提供する。ユーザがユーザインタフェースモジュール６を介して読み出し処理を止めた場合、システムは初期メニューに戻る。
本発明の実現可能な応用の中で、記録された番組によって形成された真正のオンデマンドビデオ及び／又はオーディオシステムを提供する個人ビデオ及び／又はオーディオライブラリの構築を説明する。
（数十の映画を８ｍｍカセット上に記録可能な）マトリックス形ヘッドの磁気記録技術を用いるビデオライブラリ応用の場合、例えば、最大５０本の映画を含むビデオ貯蔵器を用いて以下のサービスを考えることができる：最初の使用日に、最も人気があると言われる５０の映画（“上位５０本”）が（４本の並列チャンネル又は衛星トランスポンダを用いて）放送され、本発明の記録及び読み出し装置に格納される。記録された映画は、放送者が映画を観るための支払いモード（映画１本当たり、１日当たり等の支払い）を管理できるように符号化された形式にされている。換言すれば、映画は顧客の家庭に格納されているが、復号化された形式で可視化するための支払いは未だ行なわれていない。従って、ユーザは、復号化の料金を支払った直後に、５０本の記録された映画の中から好みの映画を観ることができる。
ユーザは、ビデオカセットレコーダと同様に早送り、巻戻し、一時停止、停止等の機能を用いて映画を観ることができる。ユーザは、安全鍵を用いて保護することによりビデオ貯蔵器内に個人的な映画のコレクションを構築することができる。映画が放送されたとき、ビデオ貯蔵器に格納された５０本の映画の中で個人的なコレクションを含まない１本の映画が消去され、新しい映画が開放されたスペースを使用する。このような態様で、サービス提供者は、上位５０本の映画を定期的に更新し、毎週又は毎月、更新されたリストを加入者に送る。
提案されたサービスは、ユーザが個人的な趣向を考慮に入れて自分自身のビデオライブラリを構築できるように、それ以外の映画（例えば、４チャンネル又はトランスポンダによる２０日間の放送を表わす１０００本の映画）を放送してもよい。例えば、ユーザのビデオ貯蔵器は、定期的に更新される“上位２０本”と、３種類のテーマ（冒険、空想科学、ドラマ）毎に自分の好みの１０本の映画からなる個人的なコレクションとにより構成される。
本発明の他の応用は、ユーザに自分のオーディオ貯蔵器からオーディオライブラリを構築させることである。音楽の電子的ダウンローディングサービスは、例えば、５０秒間にコンパクトディスクの内容（１５０メガバイト）を伝送する能力があるトランスポンダ（２４メガビット／秒）によって提供することができる。これは、トランスポンダが１日当たりコンパクトディスク１７００枚を上回る量と同じ量の音楽を伝達可能であることを意味する。６０ギガバイトの記憶容量を用いる場合、オーディオ貯蔵器は、常に、コンパクトディスク４００枚の量を保有することが可能である。貯蔵器の内容の更新はユーザによる制御が可能である。

Claims (9)

  1. 個人的なビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築する方法であって：
    − サーバからネットワークを介して第１の複数の番組をダウンロードする段階と；
    − 上記第１の複数の番組を個人的なデータ媒体に格納する段階と；
    − 上記格納された番組の中から決定された番組を選択する段階と；
    − ユーザアクセスコードの入力により、上記番組の数個の利用を可能にする段階と；
    − ユーザ特定のコードの入力により、上記決定された番組の内容を利用するために、支払い機構が上記決定された番組に対して支払うことを可能にする段階と；
    を有する方法。
  2. 上記決定された番組が上記データ媒体から消去できないように、上記決定された番組に安全措置を施す段階を更に有する、請求項１記載の方法。
  3. 第２の複数の番組をダウンロードする段階と、上記第２の複数の番組を上記データ媒体に格納する段階とを更に有する、請求項１記載の方法。
  4. 上記データ媒体に格納された上記番組の中から消去可能な番組を選択する段階と、上記第２の複数の番組を格納する前に、上記選択された消去可能な番組を消去する段階とを更に有する、請求項３記載の方法。
  5. 上記第１及び第２の複数の番組の格納は、同時に行われる、請求項３記載の方法。
  6. 個人的なビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築する装置であって：
    − １つ以上の放送チャンネルの同時の受信を可能にする受信周波数選択手段と；
    − 上記放送チャンネルを介して受信された複数の番組を記録して読み出す手段であり、受信した番組の記録を可能にする書き込みヘッド及びデータ媒体を含む手段と；
    − 上記データ媒体に記録された上記複数の番組の中から決定された番組を選択する選択手段と；
    − ユーザ特定のコードの入力により、上記決定された番組に対する支払いを可能にする支払い手段と；
    − 上記決定された番組の内容の利用又は読み出しを行う利用手段であり、上記利用又は読み出しはユーザアクセスコードの入力により認可される利用手段と；
    を有する装置。
  7. 上記番組を記録して読み出す手段は、
    Ｎ列の並行トラックを備えた少なくとも１つの磁気テープの形式の記録媒体と；
    Ｎ×Ｍ個の記録素子で構成された磁気記録ヘッドと；
    Ｎ個のトラックを同時に読み出すことができる磁気光学式読み出しヘッドと；
    を有する、請求項６記載の個人的なビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築する装置。
  8. 番組の記録及び読み出しが独立に制御されることを可能にする制御手段を更に有する、請求項７記載の個人的なビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築する装置。
  9. 上記支払い手段は、記録された上記決定された番組の直接的な消去を防止するための安全鍵の生成器を有する、請求項６記載の個人的なビデオ又はオーディオライブラリを構築する装置。
