Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus that transfers a visible image formed on the surface of an image carrier onto a front surface of an endless intermediate transfer belt and then transfers the image onto a recording member.
Conventionally, as this type of image forming apparatus, those described in Patent Document 1 and those described in Patent Document 2 are known. The image forming apparatus described in Patent Document 1 includes a drum-shaped photoconductor and a revolver developing unit facing the drum-shaped photoconductor. The revolver developing unit holds four developing devices by a holding body that rotates about a rotation axis. These developing units develop the electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member with yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), and black (K) toners. The revolver developing unit rotates the holding member to move the developing device of any color among Y, M, C, and K to the developing position facing the photosensitive member, and thereby the electrostatic latent image on the photosensitive member. Can be developed into any color. In the case of forming a full-color image, Y, M, C, and K electrostatic latent images are sequentially formed on the photoreceptor in the process of rotating the endless intermediate transfer belt about four times, and the Y, M , C, and K are sequentially developed. Then, the Y, M, C, and K toner images obtained on the photoconductor are sequentially superimposed and transferred onto the intermediate transfer belt. When a four-color superimposed toner image is formed on the intermediate transfer belt in this way, a secondary transfer nip is formed by bringing a secondary transfer roller as a nip forming roller into contact with the intermediate transfer belt. Then, a four-color superimposed toner image on the intermediate transfer belt is secondarily transferred collectively to the recording paper sandwiched between the secondary transfer nips.
Further, the image forming apparatus described in Patent Document 2 includes four photoreceptors for Y, M, C, and K, and four developing devices corresponding to the respective photoreceptors. Then, Y, M, C, and K toner images formed on the surface of the Y, M, C, and K photoconductors are superimposed and transferred onto the intermediate transfer belt to obtain a four-color superimposed toner image. Thereafter, the four-color toner image on the belt is secondarily transferred onto the recording paper at the secondary transfer nip by the contact between the intermediate transfer belt and the secondary transfer roller as the nip forming roller.
In any image forming apparatus, if thick paper is used as recording paper, image quality deterioration due to so-called shock jitter is likely to occur. Shock jitter is a phenomenon that occurs as follows. That is, FIG. 1 is an enlarged schematic diagram showing an example of the secondary transfer nip. In this figure, an endless
The ease of occurrence of shock jitter is influenced not only by the thickness of the recording paper P but also by the belt linear velocity, the nip pressure, and the like. When the thickness of the recording paper P is constant, shock jitter tends to occur as the belt linear velocity increases or the nip pressure increases. Further, the nip pressure is affected by the hardness of the elastic roller (secondary transfer back side roller or nip forming roller), and the higher the hardness, the more easily a shock jitter is generated due to the increase in the nip pressure.
In recent years when higher-speed printing and higher image quality are being promoted, it is possible to guarantee the user that images can be formed at a relatively high speed without causing shock jitter and insufficient nip pressure, up to a certain paper thickness. desired. However, if the hardness of the elastic roller is higher than the design value due to individual differences, the nip pressure will be higher than the design value. It will cause shock jitter. In order to avoid the occurrence of such shock jitter, it is necessary to use an expensive elastic roller whose hardness is adjusted with high accuracy.
The present invention has been made in view of the above background, and the object of the present invention is to provide shock jitter caused by individual hardness differences of rollers without using an expensive elastic roller whose hardness is adjusted with high accuracy. It is an object of the present invention to provide a transfer device or the like that can eliminate the occurrence.

In these inventions, when the hardness of the nip back roller and the nip forming roller that functions as the low hardness roller exceeds the design value due to the solid difference, this is detected by the hardness measuring means.
Hereinafter, an embodiment of an electrophotographic printer (hereinafter simply referred to as a printer) will be described as an image forming apparatus to which the present invention is applied.
First, a basic configuration of the printer according to the embodiment will be described. FIG. 2 is a schematic configuration diagram illustrating the printer according to the embodiment. In this figure, this printer includes four process units 6Y, 6C, 6M, and 6K for forming yellow, cyan, magenta, and black (hereinafter referred to as Y, C, M, and K) toner images. Yes. These use Y, C, M, and K toners of different colors as image forming materials, but the other configurations are the same and are replaced when the lifetime is reached. Taking a process unit 6Y for generating a Y toner image as an example, as shown in FIG. 3, a drum-shaped

The above-described

Next, a characteristic configuration of the printer will be described. FIG. 4 is an enlarged configuration diagram showing a secondary transfer nip and its surrounding configuration in the transfer unit of the printer according to the embodiment. In the figure, the
The

演算手段たるCPU(Central rocessing Unit)100a、データ記憶手段たるRAM(Random Access Memory)100b、データ記憶手段たるROM(Read Only Memory)100c、データ記憶手段たるフラッシュメモリ100dなどを具備している。

The color process motor 101 is for driving Y, C, and M process units (6Y, C, and M in FIG. 2) among the four process units. When the color process motor 101 is driven, in the Y, C, and M process units, rotating members such as a photoreceptor and a developing roll are driven to rotate. The

In FIG. 4 described above, an IC chip (not shown) that stores information of a manufacturing ID number unique to each roller as digital data is fixed inside the secondary transfer back
In this printer, a combination of the secondary transfer back
When the

FIG. 7 is a flowchart showing a control flow for inter-axis distance correction performed by the
FIG. 8 is a flowchart showing details of the inter-axis distance value correction process. In this inter-axis distance value correction process, first, the drive of the intermediate transfer belt (8) is started by the drive of the belt drive motor (103) (S31). Then, the nip forming roller (19) is separated from the intermediate transfer belt (8) by the cam motor (104) comprising a stepping motor being rotated by a predetermined rotation angle (S32). In this state, on the basis of the encoder signal output from the encoder (105), spaced at a belt speed V 1 is the speed of the intermediate transfer belt at the nip forming roller separation is measured (S33). In this measurement, the average value of the velocity in the period of at least one belt is determined as spaced at a belt speed V 1.
If the interval when the belt speed V 1 is measured, then, the nip forming roller by the driving of the cam motor (104) (19) is brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt (8) (S34). At this time, the eccentric cam (152) is stopped in a posture in which the minimum diameter portion is abutted against the swing arm (150). That is, inter-axis distance is set to a standard distance D 0. Then, based on the encoder signal output from the encoder (105), abutting at a belt speed V 2 which is the speed of the intermediate transfer belt at the nip forming roller contact is measured (S35). In this measurement, the average value of the velocity in the period of at least one belt is determined as an abutment during the time the belt speed V 2.
After measuring the spacing at belt speed V 1 and the contact time of belt speed V 2, the belt speed difference is the absolute value of the difference between the two, whether below a predetermined threshold value (S36). As the threshold value, to the secondary transfer back roller surface hardness is in the upper limit value in the tolerance range (12), a nip forming roller under conditions of center distance = standard distance D 0 (19) The same value as the belt speed difference when contacting with the belt is set. Therefore, when the measured belt speed difference is below the threshold value, the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back roller (12) exceeds the upper limit within the allowable error range. In such a case (Y in S36), according to the belt speed difference, the value of cardboard for center distance D 1 is a control parameter stored in advance in the flash memory (100d) is corrected. Specifically, this printer, when thick paper used, in a state of setting to the same value as cardboard for the center distance D 1 stored center distance in the flash memory, and performs the print job. In the factory, as between cardboard for axial distance D 1, the same value is set as the standard distance D 0. However, in S36 in step, when the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back roller (12) is determined to exceed the upper limit value in the allowable range, in S37 in step, between the cardboard for the axial distance D 1 the corrected to a larger value than the standard distance D 0. In this correction, the appropriate inter-axis distance corresponding to the measured belt speed difference is specified based on the data table indicating the relationship between the belt speed difference and the appropriate inter-axis distance stored in advance in the flash memory (100d). and to correct the cardboard for center distance D 1 to the same value as a specific result. When the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back roller (12) exceeds the upper limit, since the secondary transfer nip pressure is higher than the design value, and setting the center distance to a standard distance D 0 When using cardboard, there is a risk of causing shock jitter. However, by lowering the center distance to the design value the secondary transfer nip pressure a little larger than the standard distance D 0, it is possible to avoid the occurrence of shock jitter. At this time, if the distance between the axes is set excessively large until the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back side roller (12) does not match, the secondary transfer nip pressure will be insufficient. That is, the inter-axis distance has an appropriate inter-axis distance corresponding to the surface hardness (= belt speed difference). The data table stored in the flash memory is constructed based on the result of examining the relationship between the belt linear velocity difference and the appropriate inter-axis distance based on a prior experiment. Therefore, in S37 in step, by cardboard for center distance D 1 to the value corresponding to the belt line speed difference is corrected without causing a secondary transfer nip shortage, so that the occurrence of shock jitter can be avoided become.
In this printer, a cam posture grasping encoder (not shown) is fixed to the cam shaft of the eccentric cam (152). A correlation is established between the output value of the encoder for grasping the cam posture and the inter-axis distance. Therefore, the inter-axis distance stored in the flash memory is not the distance value itself but the output value of the cam posture grasping encoder.

In the printer according to the embodiment, a thickness information acquisition unit that acquires the thickness information of the recording paper P is provided, and the thickness information acquired by the thickness information acquisition unit is smaller than the lower limit value of the thick paper. In the case of information, the inter-axis distance correcting means is configured to perform the process of setting the inter-axis distance to the standard distance D 0 regardless of the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back
Further, in the printer according to the embodiment, the processing for measuring the surface hardness of the secondary transfer back
