Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a polarizing plate, and more particularly to a polarizing plate used in a liquid crystal display device and a liquid crystal display device using the same.
Liquid crystal display devices are thin and have low power consumption, and thus are widely used as display devices for televisions, computers, mobile phones, car navigation systems, and the like. Such a liquid crystal display device mainly includes a backlight system and a liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal panel further includes a liquid crystal cell and polarizing plates provided on the front surface (surface on the viewing side) and the back surface (surface on the backlight system side) via an adhesive layer.
The polarizing plate used for such a liquid crystal display device is composed of a polarizing element having polarization performance and a protective film that is provided on both surfaces of the polarizing element via an adhesive layer and protects the polarizing element. The polarizing element is generally formed of a uniaxially stretched polyvinyl alcohol (hereinafter sometimes referred to as PVA) resin that is dyed with iodine, and the protective film is generally triacetyl cellulose (hereinafter referred to as TAC). Is formed of a resin. Examples of the adhesive constituting the adhesive layer include a PVA adhesive, an acrylic adhesive, and a urethane adhesive. When the polarizing element is a PVA resin and the protective film is a TAC resin, Since both are highly hydrophilic, a PVA adhesive that is a water-based adhesive is preferably used.
However, the TAC resin has a problem that it is inferior in moisture resistance and thermal stability, weak in mechanical strength and disadvantageous for thinning, and disadvantageous in cost. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for thinning of liquid crystal display devices, and accordingly, a polarizing plate to be bonded to a liquid crystal cell has been required to be thin. Furthermore, a polarizing plate protective film that is superior in terms of moisture resistance, heat resistance, and cost has been required.
As a protective film for a polarizing plate that satisfies such requirements, it has been proposed to use a polyethylene terephthalate (hereinafter sometimes referred to as PET) resin instead of a TAC resin. The PET resin is superior to the TAC resin in moisture resistance and thermal stability, has high mechanical strength, can be easily formed into a thin film, and is less expensive than the TAC resin.
The use of a PET-based resin as a protective film for a polarizing plate is disclosed in, for example, Patent Document 1 (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2009-157347) and Patent Document 2 (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2009-169389).
In both Patent Document 1 and Patent Document 2, a protective film on the back side (opposite side of the liquid crystal cell) of the polarizing plate on the back side (backlight system side) of the liquid crystal cell, and the front side (viewing side) of the liquid crystal cell It is disclosed that a PET-based resin is used for the protective film on the front side of the polarizing plate (the side opposite to the liquid crystal cell).
Thus, when PET resin is used for the protective film of the polarizing plate on the back side (backlight system side) with respect to the liquid crystal cell, color unevenness (interference unevenness) appears remarkably in the display of the liquid crystal display device. Therefore, Patent Document 1 discloses that the protective film of the PET-based resin of the polarizing plate on the front side (viewing side) has an antiglare property having a haze value in the range of 15% to 45%. Patent Document 2 discloses that the haze value of the polarizing plate on the front surface side (viewing side) is in the range of 45% to 80%.
In this way, by giving a large haze value to the polarizing plate on the front side (viewing side) or its protective film, the color unevenness is eliminated, but the light transmittance is remarkably reduced by the large haze, and the liquid crystal display device There arises a problem that luminance and visibility deteriorate. Further, in order to compensate for this, it is necessary to increase the amount of light of the backlight, which causes a problem of wasting electric energy.
In addition, when a PET-based resin is used for the protective film on one surface for a polarizing element of one polarizing plate, if a TAC-based resin is used for the protective film on the other surface, depending on the film thickness difference, During the manufacturing process, in the process of bonding and drying the polarizing element and these protective films respectively with an adhesive, there is a problem that curling occurs due to the difference in stress caused by the difference in the material of the protective film and the difference in film thickness. And the like.
The present invention has been made in order to solve such problems. Instead of using a PET-based resin for the protective film of the polarizing plate on the back side (backlight system side) where color unevenness easily occurs, the front side ( When a PET-based resin is used for one protective film of the polarizing plate on the viewing side), it is an object to sufficiently ensure brightness and visibility by optimizing the haze value.
Furthermore, even if it uses PET resin for one protective film of a polarizing plate, this invention makes it a subject to suppress generation | occurrence | production of the curl in the manufacturing process of a polarizing plate.
The polarizing plate of the present invention includes a polarizing element having polarizing performance, a first protective film formed on one surface of the polarizing element via a first adhesive layer, and the other surface of the polarizing element. A polarizing plate comprising a second protective film formed through a second adhesive layer, wherein the first protective film includes at least a film made of a polyethylene terephthalate-based resin, The protective film has a haze value of 1% to 14%, and the second protective film is made of a triacetyl cellulose resin.
The first protective film comprises a film made of a polyethylene terephthalate resin, an antiglare layer provided on one surface of the film made of the polyethylene terephthalate resin, and an easy-contact treatment layer provided on the other surface. The surface of the easy-contact treatment layer is preferably in contact with the first adhesive layer. Alternatively, the first protective film includes a film made of a polyethylene terephthalate resin having a haze inside, and an easy-to-contact layer provided on one surface of the film made of a polyethylene terephthalate resin having a haze inside. It is preferable that the surface of the easy-contact treatment layer is in contact with the first adhesive layer.
The film thickness of the second protective film is preferably 0.2 to 1.6 times the film thickness of the first protective film. Moreover, it is preferable that the film thickness of a said 1st protective film is 17 micrometers-60 micrometers.
Both of the first adhesive layer and the second adhesive layer are preferably composed of a water-based adhesive, and the water-based adhesive is preferably a polyvinyl alcohol resin.
Moreover, the liquid crystal display device of this invention is arrange | positioned so that the said polarizing plate may contact the said adhesive layer with the said 2nd protective film side through the adhesive layer on the visual recognition side of a liquid crystal cell.
Since the polarizing plate of the present invention uses a PET-based resin for the first protective film formed on one surface of the polarizing element, the protective film can be thinned, that is, the polarizing plate can be thinned. In addition, a polarizing plate having sufficient mechanical strength, moisture resistance and thermal stability can be obtained even if the film thickness is reduced. Furthermore, since the second protective film formed on the other surface is a TAC-based resin and the film thickness is 0.2 to 1.6 times that of the first protective film, Curling can be suppressed and a polarizing plate can be produced stably.
Furthermore, in the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, since the polarizing plate using the PET-based resin for the first protective film described above is arranged on the front side (viewing side) of the liquid crystal cell, color unevenness does not occur. For this reason, the haze value of the first protective film of the polarizing plate on the front side (viewing side) can be set as low as 1% to 14%, and the visibility is not deteriorated. There is no need to raise it as necessary. In addition, the use of PET resin for the protective film on the front side (opposite side of the liquid crystal cell) of the polarizing plate on the front side (viewing side) of the liquid crystal cell ensures the moisture resistance and thermal stability of the liquid crystal display device. can do.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of an example of the polarizing plate of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1, the polarizing
The polarizing
An example of the configuration of the first
The first protective film
The
The easy-
The haze value of the first
Further, instead of using the
Further, the first
In the
The second
The surface of the
Here, an example of a manufacturing method in which the first
Next, the film thickness relationship between the first
The film thickness of the first
When the film thickness of the 1st
In addition, although the 1st
Next, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention using the
The
Here, the second protective film of the
On the back side (backlight system side) surface of the
Examples of the second
A well-known thing can be used also about each adhesive which comprises the 1st
