Abstract
【解決手段】 光学的開口を規定し積層構造を有するチューナブル液晶光学装置を提供する。この装置は、第1基板の表面に形成され且つ第2基板に覆われた膜電極と、前記積層構造内の一部を占め前記膜電極に接触する接続部構造とを含む。接続部構造は、光学的開口の外側に位置し、前記膜電極の厚みよりも相当大きい電気接続面を提供し、これにより特に装置のウエハスケール製造に関連して、前記電極への確実な電気的接続を可能にする。

Claims (22)
- 光学的開口を規定し積層構造を有するチューナブル液晶光学装置であって、
a)第1基板の表面に形成され且つ第2基板に覆われた膜電極と、
b)前記積層構造内の一部を占め前記膜電極に接触する接続部構造と、を含み、前記接続部構造は前記光学的開口の外側に位置し、前記膜電極の厚みよりも相当大きい電気接続面を提供する、チューナブル液晶光学装置。 - 前記装置は、前記積層構造における層の露出縁部を含む縁面を有しており、前記接続部構造は前記装置の縁部またはその近傍に位置している、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記膜電極は第1膜電極であり、前記装置は前記第1基板とは異なる基板上に形成された第2膜電極をさらに備え、前記接続部構造は前記第1膜電極に接触する第1接続部領域と前記第2膜電極に接触する第2接続部領域とを含む、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記装置は本質的に正方形であり、前記接続部構造の前記第1及び第2接続部領域は前記装置の対角位置に位置する、請求項3に記載の装置。
- 前記第1及び第2膜電極は前記装置の電界を制御する薄膜透明電極であり、前記装置は、一方を90度回転させ且つ上下反転させた状態で接合した一対の同一の単一偏光膜付き液晶光学装置を含み、前記接続部構造は垂直方向に整列した二対の接続部領域を含む、請求項4に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は前記装置の前記縁面に位置しており、前記接続部構造の各接続部領域によって提供される前記電気接続面は前記露出縁部の1つに位置している、請求項5に記載の装置。
- 前記縁面に接合された一対の外部接続部をさらに備え、各外部接続部は前記垂直方向に整列した各対における接続部領域どうしを接続する、請求項6に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造の各接続部領域は導電材料のビーズによって形成されている、請求項6に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造の各接続部領域は導電材料のビーズによって形成されている、請求項7に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は前記積層構造内の一部を占める導電性ビア体を有し、前記装置は前記積層構造の上面または底面を貫通して前記接続部構造の前記導電性ビア体まで至る穴をさらに備え、前記穴を介して外部電気接続が可能とされている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は前記装置の前記縁面に位置しており、前記電気接続面は前記露出縁部の1つに位置している、請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は少なくとも1つの導電材料片によって形成されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は少なくとも1つの導電材料ビーズによって形成されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記接続部構造は、前記積層構造内に設けられ前記電極の上面または下面を露出させる縁部空隙によって形成されている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記膜電極は第1膜電極であり、前記装置は前記第1基板とは異なる基板上に形成された第2膜電極をさらに備え、前記第1及び第2膜電極は前記装置の電界を制御する薄膜透明電極であり、前記接続部構造は前記第1膜電極に接触する第1接続部領域と前記第2膜電極に接触する第2接続部領域とを含む、請求項1及び10〜14のいずれか1つに記載の装置。
- 前記装置は、一方を90度回転させ且つ上下反転させた状態で接合した一対の同一の単一偏光膜付き液晶光学装置を含み、前記接続部構造は垂直方向に整列した二対の接続部領域を含む、請求項15に記載の装置。
- 前記装置は、ウエハプロセスによって一度に複数形成された後に個々に分割される、請求項1〜16のいずれか1つに記載の装置。
- 前記装置の前記積層構造は埋設タングステンビアを有する基板を備え、前記接続部構造は前記タングステンビアと垂直方向に整列するように配置されることにより、前記接続部構造と前記タングステンビアとの電気的接続が図られている、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 光学的開口を規定し、且つ、液晶層及びレンズ構造層を含む積層構造を有するチューナブル液晶光学装置を製造するための方法であって、
a)基板の表面に膜電極を形成する工程と、
b)前記膜電極に接続された接続部構造を、前記膜電極の厚みよりも相当大きい電気接続面を提供するように形成する工程と、
c)前記膜電極付き基板及びその上に形成された前記接続部構造を用いて前記装置の前記積層構造を形成する工程と、を含み、前記接続部構造は前記積層構造内の一部を占め前記装置の前記光学的開口の外側に位置するように形成される、製造方法。 - 前記接続部構造を形成する工程においては、前記積層構造が形成された時に前記接続部構造が前記装置の縁部またはその近傍に位置するように、前記接続部構造を前記膜電極に接して位置させる、請求項19に記載の方法。
- 前記接続部構造を形成する工程においては、前記薄膜電極に導電材料を付着させる、請求項19に記載の方法。
- 前記接続部構造を形成する工程においては、前記薄膜電極が形成された基板とは異なる基板にエッチングにより溝を形成し、前記溝を研磨し、前記溝に導電材料ビーズを充填し、これら2つの基板間に前記薄膜電極を挟む、請求項19に記載の方法。
