Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrolytic solution for an electric double layer capacitor and an electric double layer capacitor using the same.
As the electric double layer capacitor, one having a coin type structure is known, which is adopted as a backup power source for semiconductor memories, a standby power source for electronic devices such as microcomputers and IC memories, and the like. The electric double layer capacitor having a coin-type structure has a pair of polarizable electrodes, a separator interposed between the pair of polarizable electrodes, and an electrolyte solution impregnated in the pair of polarizable electrodes and the separator. A current collector is provided between the pair of polarizable electrodes and the positive electrode can and the negative electrode can, and the positive electrode can and the negative electrode can are sealed with a gasket.
In recent years, with the miniaturization of electronic devices and the like, electric double layer capacitors have been surface-mounted on a substrate, and reflow soldering has become the mainstream as a mounting method. Since reflow soldering is performed by heating at about 250 to 260 ° C., the electric double layer capacitor is required to have heat resistance that can withstand reflow soldering. As such a heat-resistant electric double layer capacitor, for example, there is one using a heat-resistant material for a gasket (for example, Patent Document 1).
Conventionally, attempts have been made to use a solvent having a high boiling point (BP) (200 ° C. or higher) for the electrolytic solution in order to improve the heat resistance of the electric double layer capacitor. For example, an electric double layer capacitor using a solvent composed of propylene carbonate (PC) alone or a mixed solvent of PC and tetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide (sulfolane) as a solvent for an electrolytic solution has been proposed (for example, Patent Document 2).
By the way, the electric double layer capacitor is often used in a state in which a voltage of 3 V or more is continuously applied from the main power source. At this time, if the solvent of the electrolytic solution is PC alone, the electrolytic solution may be decomposed and the electric double layer capacitor may not function.
In addition, when sulfolane is used as the solvent of the electrolytic solution, the function of the electric double layer capacitor is maintained even if it is continuously applied at a voltage of 3 V or higher, but in a low temperature environment of 25 ° C. or lower, the electric double layer capacitor There has been a problem in that the discharge capacity is impaired.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an electric double layer capacitor that has heat resistance that can withstand reflow soldering and that does not impair the discharge capacity even when voltage is continuously applied, and that can maintain the discharge capacity even in a low temperature environment.

The electric double layer capacitor of the present invention comprises at least a pair of polarizable electrodes disposed to face each other via a separator in a container sealed by a lid and a main body, and the electrolyte of the present invention. Features.
The storage container may be sealed with the lid portion and the main body portion via a gasket, and a liquid reservoir portion formed by cutting out the gasket is formed outside the outer periphery of the polarizable electrode. Preferably, the outer periphery of the separator is in contact with the liquid reservoir, and the separator preferably has a porosity that decreases from the outer periphery toward the polarizable electrode. The active material of the polarizable electrode has a specific surface area of 1000 m 2 / g or more, a pore volume of 0.4 mL / g or more, and a ratio of pores having a pore radius of less than 1 nm in all pores ( The value represented by (the number of pores having a pore radius of less than 1 nm) / (total number of pores) is 70% or less, and the ratio of pores having a pore radius of 1 to 3 nm in all pores (pore radius) The value represented by (number of pores of 1 to 3 nm) / (total number of pores) is preferably 30% or more of activated carbon, and the separator is more preferably made of glass.
According to the electric double layer capacitor of the present invention, it has heat resistance that can withstand reflow soldering, and the discharge capacity is not impaired even if voltage is continuously applied, and the discharge capacity can be maintained even in a low temperature environment.
Hereinafter, an electric double layer capacitor 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. The electric double layer capacitor 1 has a so-called coin type structure.
In FIG. 1,
The
The
The
Although the content rate of the sulfolane in a non-aqueous solvent is not specifically limited, 10-90 volume% is preferable, 20-90 volume% is more preferable, 60-80 volume% is further more preferable. If it is less than 10% by volume, the
The viscosity (20 ° C.) of the low melting point solvent is preferably 4 mPa · s or less, and more preferably 3 mPa · s or less. Since the low-melting solvent has a low viscosity, the molecular structure is preferably asymmetric, and the carbon chain having a branched structure in the structure is preferable. The molecular weight of the low-melting solvent is not particularly limited, but if the molecular weight is too large, the viscosity tends to exceed 4 mPa · s.
The viscosity of the low melting point solvent is a value measured according to JIS K7117-1 using a B-type viscometer.
Here, the low melting point solvent is selected from polar solvents because it needs to be uniformly mixed and dispersed with sulfolane. For this reason, hydrocarbons with poor polarity are not suitable. Also, alcohols are not suitable because they are chemically reactive and cause reactions such as decomposition of the

Although the content rate of the low melting-point solvent in a nonaqueous solvent is not specifically limited, 90-10 volume% is preferable, 80-20 volume% is more preferable, 50-20 volume% is further more preferable. If it is less than 10% by volume, it may be difficult to ensure the discharge capacity in a low temperature (25 ° C. or lower) environment. Since the low melting point solvent has a low boiling point of BP of 200 ° C. or less, if the content ratio exceeds 90% by volume, the

Examples of such an organic solvent include those known as nonaqueous solvents for electrolyte solutions, such as 2-methyl-γ-butyrolactone and acetyl-γ-butyrolactone. However, from the viewpoint of maintaining the discharge capacity in a low temperature environment, the non-aqueous solvent is preferably composed of sulfolane and a low melting point solvent.

As the binder, conventionally known substances can be used, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), styrene butadiene rubber, polyacrylic polymer, carboxymethyl cellulose, etc. PTFE is preferred.
A conductivity imparting agent can be added to the polarizable electrode as necessary. Examples of the conductivity imparting agent include carbon blacks such as furnace black, ketjen black, and acetylene black, and carbonaceous materials such as graphite. Examples include materials and metal powders having high corrosion resistance such as Ni and Ti. Among them, carbon black is preferable, and furnace black is more preferable.
The

The porosity is a value obtained by the following formula (I), and the apparent density is a so-called bulk density, which is a value obtained by the following formula (II).
(I) Porosity (%) = apparent density (g / cm 3 ) ÷ true density (g / cm 3 ) × 100 (I)
(II) Apparent density (g / mL) = mass of separator (g) ÷ volume of separator (cm 3 ) (II)

The material of the
Since the electric double layer capacitor of the present invention contains sulfolane (BP = 285 ° C.) in a non-aqueous solvent, it has heat resistance that can withstand reflow soldering. In addition, since the non-aqueous solvent does not substantially contain PC, the electric double layer capacitor of the present invention can suppress a decrease in discharge capacity even when a voltage of 3 V or higher is continuously applied. In addition, the
In addition, since the electric double layer capacitor of the present invention is provided with the first liquid reservoir and the second liquid reservoir, the filling amount of the electrolytic solution into the storage container is increased. The discharge capacity can be maintained for a long time. Further, when reflow soldering is performed, the low melting point solvent expands due to vaporization, and the electrolytic solution is pushed out from the positive electrode, the negative electrode, or the separator, and the impregnated state of the electrolytic solution is likely to be uneven. If the amount of electrolyte impregnation becomes uneven, the internal resistance increases and the discharge capacity tends to decrease. For this reason, by increasing the filling amount of the electrolytic solution, after the reflow soldering is completed, the electrolytic solution is quickly returned to the positive electrode, the negative electrode, or the separator to obtain a uniform impregnation state, and a sufficient discharge capacity can be secured.
