Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image reading apparatus in which image sensor chips are arranged in a zigzag pattern, and an image forming apparatus including the image reading apparatus. More specifically, the present invention reduces streak images caused by misalignment of image sensor chips in the main scanning direction. The present invention relates to technology for improving image quality.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an image reading apparatus provided in a copying machine, a facsimile, or the like, or an image reading apparatus that automatically reads image information of a document is used as a scanner for computer input. In this type of image reading apparatus, light is applied to a document using a light source that extends in a direction orthogonal to the document transport path, and reflected light from the document is received by an image sensor, whereby Reading the image.
More specifically, for example, a method of irradiating a document with light using a xenon lamp as a light source and reading reflected light from the document with an optical sensor through a reduction optical system has been generally used. For this purpose, a so-called CIS (Contact Image Sensor) that uses an LED (Light Emitting Diode) as a light source and directly reads an image with a linear sensor via a Selfoc lens (registered trademark) has been put into practical use. Yes.
As a linear sensor in such a CIS, for example, a multi-chip image sensor array in which a plurality of image sensor chips (light receiving chips) in which a large number of light receiving pixels are arranged in a straight line is arranged in a staggered manner is widely used. .
11 and 12 show the arrangement of adjacent image sensor chips in the CIS in which such image sensor chips are arranged in a staggered manner. Ideally, as shown in FIG. 11, the positional relationship between the adjacent image sensor chips is arranged such that the barycentric positions of the pixels of the adjacent image sensor chips Sa and Sb coincide with the main scanning direction. However, due to manufacturing, it is inevitable that image sensor chip placement variation (mounting deviation) occurs in units of several μm in the main scanning direction. For example, an image sensor placed in a positional relationship as shown in FIG. 12 is manufactured. There is a possibility that.
When a halftone image is read using an image sensor having an image sensor chip structure as shown in FIG. 12, the following image defects are assumed. This will be described with reference to FIGS. 13 and 14. Here, FIG. 13 shows a document image (part) and an output image when it is read by an image sensor chip having no mounting deviation, and FIG. 14 shows a document image (part) and a mounting deviation thereof. An output image when read by an image sensor chip is shown.
Here, among the plurality of image sensor chips each having 304 pixels, the vicinity of the pixels a297 to a304 at the rear end of two adjacent image sensor chips Sa and the pixels b001 to 015 at the front end of the image sensor chip Sb. Represents. Further, it is assumed that an image sensor in which six pixels a299 to 304 and pixels b001 to 006 are overlapped is used. The pixels used for final output are a297 to 304 and b007 to, and b001 to 006 are not used. Further, when a black portion and a white portion are mixed with respect to one pixel width (area), it is assumed that an intermediate density output (a set of dots in the drawing for convenience) is obtained as a final output image. .
The difference between the final output images in FIG. 13 and FIG. 14 is prominent in the joint portion of the pixel a304 and the pixel b007, that is, the image sensor chip. In the case of FIG. 13, a fixed pattern output is obtained as the final output, whereas in the case of FIG. 14, the pattern changes at the pixel a304 and pixel b007 corresponding to the joint of the image sensor chip. . When the pattern changes, the pattern switching portion is recognized as a conspicuous streak image, which leads to a problem of image quality reduction. Many image sensors have thousands of pixels. For this purpose, a large number of image sensor chips must be arranged. Therefore, when mounting displacement occurs between a large number of image sensor chips, a large number of streak images may be generated in the main scanning direction.
Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of a streak image due to such mounting deviation, a predetermined mark (vertical length) is applied to a part of the position of the overlap portion of each image sensor chip on the pressure plate arranged on the opposite side to the image sensor chip. The image sensor chip arranged in a staggered pattern is detected and corrected by reading and comparing the mark with each image sensor chip, and detecting the misalignment between the main scan and the sub scan. An image reading apparatus has been proposed (see Patent Document 1).
However, in the case of this image reading apparatus, if the positions of the two marks on the pressure plate are different from the target position, it is determined that there is a positional shift even though there is no positional shift between adjacent image sensor chips. There is a problem of doing (false detection).
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described conventional problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a highly accurate image sensor chip mounting position shift in an image sensor in which a plurality of image sensor chips are arranged in a staggered manner. This is to reduce the generation of streak images.
The image reading apparatus of the present invention includes a plurality of image sensor chips arranged in a staggered manner, and an image sensor in which adjacent image sensor chips are overlapped with each other by a predetermined number of pixels in the main scanning direction, and one side in the sub scanning direction. Means for storing first image data from the arranged image sensor chip and second image data from the image sensor chip arranged on the other side; and a plurality of positions of the image sensor chip in the main scanning direction Correction coefficient storage means for storing a plurality of correction coefficients according to the amount of deviation; means for storing a plurality of image data corrected by using the plurality of correction coefficients in an overlap pixel portion of the second image data; By detecting an amount of difference between the overlap pixel portion of the first image data and the plurality of image data obtained by the correction calculation An image reading apparatus characterized by having a main scanning position deviation amount detecting means for detecting the main scanning position deviation amount of the image sensor chips in the image sensor.
According to the present invention, in an image sensor in which a plurality of image sensor chips are arranged in a staggered manner, the occurrence of streak images can be reduced by correcting the displacement of the mounting position of the image sensor chip with high accuracy.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a sectional view of an image reading apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a control block diagram thereof. This image reading apparatus is an apparatus that conveys an original to be read to a fixed reading unit, and reads an image while passing the reading unit at a predetermined speed. This image reading apparatus can be provided in an image forming apparatus such as a digital multifunction peripheral.
As shown in FIG. 1, a document setting unit A for setting a
The
The movable document table 3 can be moved up and down in the directions a and b shown in the figure by a bottom
When the print key is pressed from the main
The
The document separated into one sheet by the action of the
Thereafter, the sheet is fed by a predetermined distance determined from the detection by the abutting
At this time, by rotating the

It should be noted that the

Hereinafter, the main scanning position correction will be described. FIG. 5 is a functional block diagram of the main scanning
Reads the image data in the overlap pixel area from the image data stored in the
In the case of a total of 20 chips (10 chips each for EVEN and ODD chips), since there are 19 overlapping pixel areas, it is necessary to calculate a main scanning position correction coefficient for each area. The following calculation is performed on the image data stored in the ODD chip
Since the mounting deviation of the image sensor chip occurs in units of several μm, it is necessary to detect the deviation amount in units smaller than one pixel width (42.3 μm in the case of 600 dpi). In this embodiment, a cubic function convolution method is used. FIG. 6 is a conceptual diagram for obtaining data at a new sampling point from data at four sampling points (pixels) by a cubic function convolution method, and FIG. 7 is a correction coefficient table when the cubic function convolution method is used. An example is shown.
N’=W1*(n−1)+W2*n+W3*(n+1)+W4*(n+2) …
As shown in FIG. 6, from the image data “n” of the target pixel, the image data “n−1” one pixel before, the image data “n + 1” after one pixel, the image data “n + 2” after two pixels, The image data “n ′” of the new sampling point is obtained by performing an interpolation calculation using the equation [1].
N ′ = W1 * (n−1) + W2 * n + W3 * (n + 1) + W4 * (n + 2) Equation [1]
Here, W1 to W4 are correction coefficients stored in the correction
Hereinafter, a specific method of detecting the amount of main scanning position deviation will be described.
As shown in FIG. 8, when the EVEN chip Sa is used as a reference, it is conceivable that the ODD chip Sb is shifted in both the + direction and the − direction. Since it is not known whether the shift direction is positive or negative, the shift amount is detected assuming a positional shift in both the positive and negative directions. In an actual calculation, it is desirable to use the average value of a plurality of lines for each pixel as the pixel data of interest in order to remove noise components. The average number of lines may be an arbitrary number of lines considering the noise component (S / N) of the image sensor chip.

Next, for each estimated deviation amount, the
Next, a correction method after the deviation amount detection will be described.
A streak image cannot be reduced as a final image only by executing correction corresponding to the shift amount obtained by the above calculation only for the overlapping pixels. For example, if only the overlap pixel is corrected when there is a deviation in the + direction, the original mounting deviation occurs between the pixel b10 in FIG. 8 and the next pixel (b11). As a result, the result cannot be corrected at all.
Therefore, in the present embodiment, the streak image generated between the chip gaps is reduced by executing a correction process using the cubic function convolution method for non-overlapping pixels. That is, based on the shift amount detection result obtained by the shift
Correction processing for non-overlapping pixels is executed by the
<Correction for pixel b11>
The shift amount “12/32” in the table of FIG. 7 is selected, and “b11 ′ = b9 × (−19/128) + b10 × 99/128 + b11 × 59/128 + b12 × (−11/128)” is calculated.
<Correction for pixel b12>
The shift amount “11/32” in the table of FIG. 7 is selected, and “b12 ′ = b10 × (−19/128) + b11 × 103/128 + b12 × 54/128 + b13 × (−10/128)” is calculated.
<Correction for pixel b13>
The shift amount “10/32” in the table of FIG. 7 is selected, and “b13 ′ = b11 × (−19/128) + b12 × 107/128 + b13 × 49/128 + b14 × (−9/128)” is calculated.
The same calculation is performed for the pixels b14 to 20 (the calculation formula is obvious and is omitted).
<Correction for pixel b21>
The shift amount “2/32” in the table of FIG. 7 is selected, and “b21 ′ = b19 × (−7/128) + b20 × 127/128 + b21 × 8/128 + b22 × 0” is calculated.
<Correction for pixel b22>
The shift amount “1/32” in the table of FIG. 7 is selected, and “b22 ′ = b20 × (−4/128) + b21 × 127/128 + b22 × 4/128 + b23 × 0” is calculated.
No correction after b23. In this way, by performing the process of correcting the position in stages for the 12 pixels b11 to b22, the amount of mounting deviation, which should originally be: 12/32 pixels, is dispersed into 12 pixels, thereby causing streaks. Can be made inconspicuous.
For example, when the detected amount of deviation is 1/32 pixels or less, the effect on the image is expected to be negligible even if the correction process is not executed, so an option of not executing the correction process itself is also conceivable. FIG. 10 shows an example of the processing flow.
When the shift amount is detected by the shift amount determination unit 1108 (step ST1), the correction target pixel
As described above, when the image sensor chip has a means for selecting the number of pixels to be subjected to the main scanning position correction calculation according to the mounting position shift amount, the shift amount is a minute level that does not affect the image quality degradation. Since the correction process is not performed, it is possible to reduce the load and the processing time of the correction process.
In the above description, only the pixel b3 has been described. However, if only one pixel is detected, it may be erroneously detected due to some noise factor such as dust or dirt that adheres to the image sensor reading surface. There is a possibility.
Therefore, in the present embodiment, the number of pixels for detecting a position shift is increased as much as possible, and the position shift amount can be detected with higher accuracy by determining the position shift amount from the sum of the difference amounts. Specifically, for b4, b5,..., B10, Δ3 = a3−b3 ′, Δ4 = a4−b4 ′,..., Δ10 = a10−b10 for each assumed deviation amount. The difference between overlapping pixels is sequentially detected by the operation '. The case where the total value of these difference amounts is the minimum is the positional shift amount, and the total value of the difference amounts of the overlapping pixels is calculated for each shift amount. Then, the correction calculation is executed based on the correction coefficient that minimizes the total difference amount.
As described above in detail, the image reading apparatus according to the embodiment of the present invention has the following features (1) to (4).
(1) In an image sensor in which a plurality of image sensor chips are arranged in a staggered manner and adjacent image sensor chips are overlapped with each other by a predetermined number of pixels in the main scanning direction, Since the amount of misalignment is detected accurately, and the correction calculation is performed on the non-overlapping pixel portion based on the amount of misalignment, it is possible to avoid image quality degradation due to the streak image generated at the joint portion of the image sensor chip. .
(2) By increasing the number of pixels to be subjected to the correction calculation of the non-overlapping pixel portion as the positional deviation amount detected based on the data of the overlapping pixel portion is larger, it is always appropriate regardless of the deviation amount. Correction calculation can be performed.
(3) By having a means for selecting the number of pixels to be subjected to the main scanning position correction calculation according to the mounting position deviation amount of the image sensor chip, correction is performed when the deviation amount is a minute level that does not affect image quality degradation. By not performing the process, it is possible to reduce the load of the correction process and the processing time.
(4) By targeting the pixels used for misregistration to a plurality of pixels in the overlap pixel section, the possibility of false detection due to some noise factors such as the influence of dust and dirt adhering to the image sensor reading surface is reduced. Therefore, it is possible to detect the positional deviation amount with high accuracy.
