Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a stereoscopic image display apparatus that can be stereoscopically viewed with the naked eye.
Various methods are known for stereoscopic image display devices capable of displaying a three-dimensional moving image, so-called three-dimensional displays. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for a stereoscopic image display method that is particularly a flat panel type and does not require dedicated glasses. Regarding this stereoscopic image display system, a system in which an optical image selection unit (also referred to as a light beam control element) that controls the light beam from the display panel and directs it to the observer immediately before the FPD (flat panel display) is compared. It is known as a method that can be easily realized.
In the stereoscopic image display device that displays the stereoscopic image, images from a number of viewing directions are synthesized and displayed on the image display surface of the image display device for displaying a two-dimensional image, and the viewpoint position of the observer, or A light beam control element that selectively displays an image corresponding to the line-of-sight direction is generally called a parallax barrier or parallax barrier, and controls the light beam so that different images can be seen depending on the angle even at the same position on the light beam control element. is doing. Specifically, a slit (barrier) and a lens array are mainly used as the optical image selection unit. When compositing and displaying images from multiple gaze directions, optical image selectivity is given to the screen only in the horizontal direction (when only left-right parallax (horizontal parallax) is given), and both the horizontal and vertical directions of the screen In some cases, optical image selectivity such as switching between images is given (when vertical parallax is given). As the lens array used for the former, a cylindrical lens array (lenticular sheet) is often used, and as the lens array used for the latter, a two-dimensional lens array (fly eye lens array) is often used.
In the multi-view system including the binocular system and the super multi-view system, the light beams from the lens array arranged in the vicinity of the pixel dot surface concentrate the light beams on the observer's viewpoint. In contrast to this multi-view system, in the integral imaging (II) or integral photography (IP) system, the lens array is similarly arranged in the vicinity of the pixel dot surface. Is set to an integer multiple of the pixel dot pitch or a value very close to an integer multiple. In the II or IP system, light rays are not concentrated on the observer's viewpoint, and light rays parallel to each other are emitted from the lenses of the lens array.
In a display panel in a stereoscopic image display device, a pixel that constitutes a display element often has a defect due to a defect in manufacturing, and may cause a lighting failure. This defective pixel becomes a point defect in the display panel and causes a reduction in display quality. In particular, in a stereoscopic image display device, when a defective pixel is generated in a central column among pixels assigned to one lens, a direction perpendicular to the panel display surface, that is, an observer There is a problem that the observer sees a defective pixel enlarged and projected in the front direction.
In a normal image display device, the number of pixels and high definition have been increasing in recent years, and even if one point defect occurs, it may be determined as a non-defective product. However, in a stereoscopic image display device using a lens array, the lens effect As a result, the defective pixel that has become a point defect is enlarged to the lens pitch, so that it cannot be determined as a non-defective product and the yield decreases.
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and an object thereof is to provide a stereoscopic image display device having a good display quality.

Hereinafter, a stereoscopic image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings as necessary.
FIG. 1 schematically shows an II-type stereoscopic image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention.
The stereoscopic image display device shown in FIG. 1 includes a parallax image display device (planar display panel) 12 that displays a parallax image along the horizontal direction (x direction). A
The
The principle of selecting and projecting an image displayed on the
In the optical system shown in FIG. 2, it is assumed that the condensing point (focal point) 20 of the
The interval between the
Here, an image displayed on the
By the way, the
3 and 4 show the overall structure of the
When the
FIG. 4 shows a state where
If one
In recent years, a display device that displays a normal planar image has been increased in the number of pixels and increased in definition, and tends to be determined as a good product even if one point defect occurs. However, as described with reference to FIG. 2, in the stereoscopic image display device using the
In the embodiment of the stereoscopic image display apparatus of the present invention, measures are taken to minimize the influence of the
Note that the configuration of the stereoscopic image display device of the present invention is not limited to the examples described below, and can take a form in which various parts of the configurations described in the embodiments and examples of the invention are combined. It goes without saying that it goes without saying. In order to avoid redundant description, in the drawings referred to in the following description, the same reference numerals as those in FIGS.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view showing the basic structure of a stereoscopic image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention. In the image display device shown in FIG. 5, an image is displayed in the positive direction of the z axis substantially coincident with the optical axis of the
In the stereoscopic image display device shown in FIG. 4, the pixel columns of the
In the stereoscopic image display device shown in FIG. 5, the

FIG. 8 shows an example of a flowchart showing a manufacturing process for mounting and fixing a cylindrical lens array on the
On the other hand, when the
Next, regarding the
In step S12, the
The serial number may be assigned to the
When the
Comparing the structural examples of FIGS. 4 and 5, in the central region of the
In general, this is a case where m pixels are arranged in a region per lens pitch p, and the
M=INT{(m−1)/2} (1)
In the above generalization, if m is an even number, the
M = INT {(m−1) / 2} (1)
As required. Here, INT represents a function that rounds off the decimal point to obtain an integer value.
Note that, as shown in the example described here, the
FIG. 9 shows the relationship between the viewing zone and the principal ray in the II-type stereoscopic image display apparatus. In FIG. 9, the viewing area 31, which is a range in which a stereoscopic image can be viewed normally over the entire screen, is indicated by hatching. In addition, on the
g=d/n (2)
In generating the lookup table, for example, calculation can be performed by the following method described with reference to FIG. As a standard viewing distance, the design viewing distance is L, and the optical distance (air conversion distance) from the lens reference plane (observer side lens principal point plane) to the pixel is g. Here, g is g = d / n (2) where d is the actual distance from the lens to the pixel and n is the refractive index.
It is. The lens allocation interval p ′ on the pixel surface is expressed as follows: p ′ = (L + g) p / L (3)
Given in. Here, the pitch of the pixels arranged with respect to the lens pitch p, that is, m × u is equal to p ′. P ′ = mu (4)
This is the multi-eye condition. For example, if L = 1000 mm, g = 5 mm, m = 8, and u = 0.05 mm, the lens pitch p is 0.3980 mm. In this case, since m pixels are arranged with respect to the lens pitch, the number of pixels from the center of the screen to the defective pixel is counted, and the position of the lens to which the defective pixel is assigned is obtained by calculating the remainder with m. In other words, the lens shift amount can be obtained. For example, if a defective pixel is 280 pixel columns to the left of the center of the screen, the number of display pixels is an even number column, and the lens is an odd number column. If m = 8, the screen assigned to the lens column at the center of the screen Considering the number of
p=mu (5)
On the other hand, in the II or IP system, the lens pitch p is made equal to the pixel pitch arranged with respect to the lens. That is,
p = mu (5)
And For example, if L = 1000 mm, g = 5 mm, m = 8, and u = 0.05 mm, the lens pitch p is 0.4 mm, and the lens allocation interval p ′ is 0.402 mm. The lens allocation interval integrated value for 25 lenses is 10.05 mm, which is shifted by one pixel. Therefore, the pixels allocated to the lens are considered with the lens allocation interval as a reference amount. For example, if the defective pixel is 280 pixel columns to the left of the screen center, the number of display pixels is an even number column, and the lens is an odd number column, and m = 8 and u = 0.05 mm, the defective pixel from the screen center The distance to the left end of the lens is 280 × 0.05 = 14 mm, and the minimum lens allocation interval integrated amount exceeding 14 mm is 0.402 in consideration of the lens allocation interval of the left half of the screen allocated to the lens array at the center of the screen. X35 + 0.201 = 14.271 mm. Accordingly, the distance from the lens reference position to the defective pixel reference position from the 35th screen is 0.271 mm, excluding the lens present in the center of the screen, and therefore the lens assignment position of the defective pixel is 0.271 / 0. 05 = 5.42, that is, the sixth assigned pixel counting from the left. Accordingly, the lens shift amount is two columns of pixels in the left direction.
Next, a method for setting the
The
When there is no shift amount of the
When the
In the above description, the description of the color display is omitted for convenience of description. Hereinafter, a color arrangement using pixels of RGB three primary colors will be described.
Each
The defective pixel 15 (G) shown in FIG. 12 may be deducted as indicated by hatching as follows. FIG. 12 shows the effective
As shown in FIG. 13, the
In this embodiment, since the non-display pixel column is physically darkened, the number of output pins of the column driver is only the number of display pixel columns, and there is no redundant output pin number. If measures are taken to stabilize the potential, such as connecting the terminal of the non-display pixel column separately to the common electrode, the signal output pin of the column driver may not be connected to the non-display pixel column. In this case, although not shown in particular, a common process for connecting the column driver connection terminals of the non-display pixel columns and a column driver output pin positioning process are required.
As shown in FIG. 15, all the N signal output pins of the
As a modified example, as shown in FIG. 17, a display panel 12 (pixels of diagonal stripe or mosaic color array type) in which pixels 13 (R), 13 (G), and 13 (B) are alternately and repeatedly arranged in the row and column directions. In the case of a display panel, the unit of the pixel shift pitch in the horizontal direction can be set to a repetition period of R, G, and B pixels and three times the pixel pitch. That is, the pixel shift amount may be the horizontal pixel shift amount when the color pixel arrangement is not considered and the least common multiple of 3 that is the RGB pixel cycle.
As shown in FIG. 18, as another pixel shifting method, two
