Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an electro-optical device, an electro-optical device, and an electronic apparatus.
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, organic electroluminescence (EL) display devices having a multilayer structure in which a light-emitting layer (electro-optic layer) or the like is formed of an organic thin film have been developed as self-luminous flat display type electro-optic devices. Proposals have been made.
Since this organic EL display device has excellent features such as being thin, lightweight, flexible, and capable of being manufactured using an ink jet method, it is being applied to various fields such as display panels and electronic paper.
Therefore, a first thin film sealing layer, an organic buffer layer, and a second thin film sealing layer are sequentially provided on the transparent electrode layer (cathode), and this organic buffer layer alleviates stress concentration on the thin film sealing layer. An organic EL display device having the above configuration has been proposed (Patent Document 1).
The organic buffer layer is applied so that the liquid organic buffer layer covers the transparent electrode layer (cathode) and the first thin film sealing layer in an environment in which humidity is controlled, and then the heat resistant upper limit temperature of the organic light emitting layer. It can be obtained by curing under the following environment.
By the way, in the conventional organic EL display device, when the first thin film sealing layer has a defect such as a break due to a foreign substance, a pinhole, or a break due to the shape of the TFT substrate, a subsequent organic buffer layer is applied and cured. In the process, the organic component in the liquid organic buffer layer soaks into the transparent electrode layer (cathode) and the organic light emitting layer from the defective portion of the first thin film sealing layer, and as a result, the organic light emitting layer is melted and the transparent electrode There was a possibility that the layers might be in contact with each other and short-circuited.
When the transparent electrode layers sandwiching the organic light-emitting layer are short-circuited, no voltage is applied to the organic light-emitting layer of the pixel in this short-circuited portion, so that this pixel portion becomes a dark spot defect that does not emit light, resulting in image quality. Will be significantly reduced.
The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-described problems, and can prevent deterioration of the light emitting layer.
A method for manufacturing an electro-optical device, an electro-optical device, and an electronic apparatus according to the present invention will be described.
Here, as an electro-optical device, an electroluminescent material which is an example of an electro-optical material, in particular, an organic EL display device using an organic electroluminescence (EL) material will be described.
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a wiring structure of an organic EL display device (electro-optical device) 1 according to this embodiment. The organic

Further, in each pixel region X, a switching

Examples of the material constituting the organic buffer layer coating liquid include organic compounds such as epoxy resins, acrylic resins, silicone resins, polyurethanes, polyethers, and polyesters as main components.
In addition, as a reaction material that promotes the chemical reaction of the main component, an isocyanate compound such as tolylene diisocyanate that undergoes reaction in the presence of moisture (humidity), an alkoxysilane compound such as methyltrimethoxysilane, or an aminoketone And photopolymerization agents such as hydroxyketone and bisacylphosphine oxide.

Since the organic buffer layer is made of a plurality of layers, the surface irregularities are leveled and flattened, so that the organic buffer layer having excellent surface flatness can be obtained.

Examples of inorganic compounds other than the silicon compound include aluminum compounds such as aluminum nitride, aluminum oxynitride, and aluminum oxide (such as alumina), tantalum compounds such as tantalum oxide, and titanium compounds such as titanium oxide.

For example, when forming by the inkjet method, first, an organic buffer layer coating liquid (organic buffer layer) for inkjet is prepared.
This organic buffer layer coating solution can be obtained by adjusting the composition and composition ratio of the above-described main component, photopolymerization reaction agent, and the like, and an organic solvent.
This organic buffer layer coating solution is, for example, a triad which is a reaction material that promotes a chemical reaction between an organic compound such as an epoxy resin, an acrylic resin, a silicone resin, polyurethane, polyether, or polyester as a main component. A predetermined mass ratio of an isocyanate compound such as diisocyanate, an alkoxysilane compound such as methyltrimethoxysilane, or a photopolymerization reagent such as aminoketone, hydroxyketone, or bisacylphosphine oxide, and an organic solvent as necessary. It is obtained by mixing with.
The viscosity of the organic buffer layer coating solution is organic, such as the above main component, photopolymerization reaction agent, etc., so that the minimum value of the viscosity during heating described later of the organic buffer layer coating solution is 1 Pa · s or more. It is necessary to select the composition and composition ratio of the solvent and the like.
FIG. 8 is a diagram showing the relationship between the viscosity of the organic buffer layer coating solution, the heating temperature, and the heating time. After applying the organic buffer layer coating solution, the temperatures at 90 ° C., 60 ° C., and 30 ° C., respectively. It shows the change in the viscosity of the coating liquid when it is continuously heated.
According to this figure, since the organic buffer layer coating solution contains an organic component that softens when heated, when the organic buffer layer coating solution is heated, the organic component softens and the viscosity of the coating solution is increased. Drops once and gives a minimum value. Further heating causes the organic component to cure, so that the viscosity of the coating liquid increases, and the organic component is cured when the viscosity of the coating liquid reaches a predetermined value or more.
This minimum value is 1 Pa. In the case of s or less, there is a problem that the organic component in the organic buffer layer coating liquid soaks into the
Thus, by setting the minimum value of the viscosity at the time of heating of the organic buffer layer coating solution (organic buffer layer) to 1 Pa · s or more, the organic buffer layer coating solution can be obtained with a high viscosity of 1 Pa · s or more. Therefore, the
Next, the organic buffer layer coating liquid is filled in an ink jet head (not shown), the discharge nozzle of the ink jet head is made to face the
The organic buffer layer coating solution may be applied by slit coating (or curtain coating) instead of the inkjet method.
The organic buffer layer coating solution is applied in an environment in which humidity is controlled. Specifically, it is performed at an environmental temperature of −30 ° C. or lower, more preferably −60 ° C. or lower. By setting the temperature to −30 ° C. or lower, the absolute humidity can be suppressed to about several hundred ppm (volume ratio).
Thus, by placing the organic buffer layer coating liquid in an environment in which the humidity is controlled, the organic buffer layer coating liquid can be maintained in a stable state for a long time without being cured. The reason for this is that by placing it in an environment where the humidity is controlled, volatilization of the organic solvent added to adjust the viscosity of the organic buffer layer coating liquid is suppressed, and the viscosity of the organic buffer layer coating liquid is maintained. This is because that. Furthermore, since the progress of the reaction of the reaction material in the organic buffer layer coating solution can be suppressed, a stable state can be maintained for a long time.
In other words, by placing the organic buffer layer coating liquid containing a reaction material that rapidly reacts with moisture in a low humidity environment, the curing reaction is suppressed and does not proceed, and can remain stable for a long time. it can.
In addition, even when the organic buffer layer coating solution contains a reaction material that reacts with light, the organic buffer layer coating solution is cured in a similar manner by placing it in a low humidity environment. The reaction is suppressed and does not proceed, and a stable state can be maintained for a long time.
In addition, you may perform application | coating of this organic buffer layer coating liquid in inert gas atmosphere, such as nitrogen. By purging with an inert gas such as nitrogen, it can be applied in a low humidity environment.
Next, the discharged droplets are dried, and the dispersion medium and the organic solvent contained in the organic buffer layer coating liquid are evaporated to form a coating film.
This drying process can be performed by maintaining a temperature higher than the temperature in the environment in which the humidity is controlled, for example, in a low humidity environment of 0 ° C. to 25 ° C.
Next, this coating film (organic buffer layer) is heated and cured.
As conditions for this heating and curing, the coating film is heated at a temperature of 60 ° C. or less, and further heated at a temperature of 80 ° C. or more and 100 ° C. or less when the viscosity of the coating film exceeds the initial viscosity. It is preferable to do.
FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the relationship between the viscosity and temperature during heating of the coating film and the heating time, and shows the change over time in the viscosity and temperature of the coating film when the coating film is heated.

In addition, the coating film is cured by heating at a temperature of 60 ° C. or lower, and further by heating at a temperature of 80 ° C. or higher and 100 ° C. or lower, so that the
By repeating the process of applying the above organic buffer layer coating liquid on the obtained
Since the organic buffer layer has a plurality of layers, the surface irregularities are leveled and flattened, so that the organic buffer layer having excellent surface flatness can be obtained.
Next, as shown in FIG. 6C, the
Here, as a method of forming this
In general, a physical vapor deposition method (PVD) such as sputtering or ion plating can obtain a film with relatively good adhesion even to a different substrate surface, but the obtained film is agglomerated and has defects. Are easily generated, and a film having a large stress is easily formed. On the other hand, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) generally has low stress, excellent step coverage, and a dense and good film with few defects, but adhesion to a different substrate surface and film-forming properties. Is difficult to obtain.
Therefore, for the initial film formation, a physical vapor deposition method (PVD) is employed to form a film having a half or more of the required film thickness, and for the later film formation, a chemical vapor deposition method ( If the defect of the film | membrane by physical vapor deposition method (PVD) is compensated by using CVD), the

For example, when a plurality of layers are sequentially formed with materials having different compositions, the inner layer (layer on the
Furthermore, when forming the inner layer by physical vapor deposition (PVD), the amount of oxygen supplied into the film forming apparatus is initially reduced, and thereafter, continuously or discontinuously, The oxygen concentration in the

Next, as shown in FIG. 7, a
For example, an adhesive is applied on the
Since the surface
Further, since the
As described above, the organic
As described above, according to the organic
In addition, the coating film formed by applying the organic buffer layer coating solution was heated at a temperature of 60 ° C. or lower, and further heated and cured at a temperature of 80 ° C. or higher and 100 ° C. or lower. The
Further, if the
