Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置は、一対の基板1,1aと、その間に保持された液晶10と、基板1に配された偏光板21とからなる。偏光板21は、外部から入射した光を直線偏光に変換し、液晶10は電圧に応じて直線偏光の透過状態を制御する。基板1は、走査線12と信号線13と両者が交差する部分に配された画素とを有する。画素は、直線偏光の透過領域にあり液晶10に電圧を印加するための透明な画素電極17と、走査線12によって選択された時信号線13から供給された信号に応じて画素電極17を駆動する能動素子14と、透過領域で能動素子14と画素電極17を接続する配線30とを有する。偏光板21はその直線偏光軸が走査線12に対して斜めの方向に設定されており、配線30はその端部が直線偏光軸と平行又は垂直となる形状を有し、光漏れを防ぐ。

Description
また、たとえば円偏光を利用した位相差版を配置する方法があるが、この場合、製造コストが上昇するとともに、透過率が低下してしまう。
しかしながら、光学設計などの条件により、場合によっては画面の水平方向に対して偏光軸を平行もしくは垂直でなく、例えば45°方向に傾けて斜めに設定することもある。例えば、偏光サングラスを着用して画面を観察した場合、偏光板の偏光軸が水平方向と平行もしくは垂直な場合、偏光サングラス側の偏光軸との間の干渉により、表示が見えなくなってしまうことがある。これに対し偏光板の偏光軸を画面の水平方向から傾けると、偏光サングラスとの干渉がなくなり、画面を正常に観察することができる。
Claims (3)
- 一対の基板と、その間に保持された液晶と、片方の基板に配された偏光板とからなり、
前記偏光板は、外部から入射した光を直線偏光に変換し、
前記液晶は、電圧に応じて該直線偏光の透過状態を制御し、
一方の基板は、走査線と、信号線と、両者が交差する部分に配された画素とを有し、
前記画素は、直線偏光の透過領域にあり液晶に電圧を印加するための透明な画素電極と、該走査線によって選択された時該信号線から供給された信号に応じて画素電極を駆動する能動素子と、該透過領域で該能動素子と該画素電極を接続する配線とを有し、
前記偏光板は、その直線偏光軸が該走査線に対して斜めの方向に設定されており、
前記配線は、その端部が該直線偏光軸と平行又は垂直方向に傾けられた形状を有する液晶表示装置。 - 前記能動素子は、ゲートが走査線に接続し、ソースが信号線に接続し、ドレインが画素電極に接続した薄膜トランジスタからなり、
前記配線は、互いに別の層にあるドレインと画素電極の間に介在する中間電極を含み、
前記中間電極の端部が該直線偏光軸と平行又は垂直方向に傾けられた形状を有する請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。 - 該透過領域における前記信号線の端部は、該直線偏光軸と平行又は垂直方向に傾けられた形状で配されている請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
