Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a spiral electric deionized water production apparatus for producing deionized water in a semiconductor manufacturing field, a pharmaceutical manufacturing field, a power generation field such as nuclear power or thermal power, various industries such as the food industry, or a research facility.
Such EDI is roughly classified into a parallel plate type and a spiral type.
The parallel plate EDI has a plurality of demineralization chambers formed by disposing an ion exchanger between an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane via a concentration chamber serving as a chamber from which ions are excluded. It is a structure with a negative electrode. Such a parallel plate type EDI has an advantage that the current value applied to each room becomes uniform. On the other hand, since the cells are stacked, if the cells are weakly tightened when passing water, the cells can be connected to the outside of the device. There is a possibility that water leaks to In general, in order to prevent water leakage, in the parallel plate EDI, a strong pressing plate is arranged at the outermost ends of both ends, and tightening is performed with a bolt with a strong tightening pressure. Due to the presence of the pressing plate and a plurality of stacked cells, it is relatively difficult to make the parallel plate EDI compact.
On the other hand, spiral EDI has a desalination chamber formed by placing an ion exchanger between an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane. A structure in which a concentrating chamber is formed in a direction along the spiral shape is housed in a cylindrical pressure vessel together with an outer peripheral electrode. Spiral EDI does not need to be stacked, so there is less concern about external leakage of water, and installation of a pressure plate is not required, making the device more compact and increasing the membrane area per device volume. Can do. Spiral EDI is disclosed in, for example, Patent Document 1.
The spiral EDI described in Patent Document 1 is an excellent apparatus in that the film area per apparatus volume is high and the apparatus can be made compact. However, in such spiral EDI, the inflow pipe to the desalination chamber and the concentration chamber, and the discharge pipe from the concentration chamber and the desalination chamber are installed at the inner peripheral end and the outer peripheral end of the winding shape, The mechanism is complicated, the members are large, and there is no room for space. Therefore, there is little room for improvement in the structure in the apparatus other than the structure in which the single desalination chamber is wound. In response to such a problem, there is a report in which a water channel is provided in the center electrode to make the apparatus compact and secure a desalting treatment space to increase the treatment capacity (for example, Patent Document 2).
However, in the conventional spiral EDI, when the water to be treated is passed through a long coiled single desalination chamber, it is difficult to maintain a uniform flow rate of the entire desalination chamber. Is expected to be possible. If the flow rate is uneven, the ion concentration on the film surface becomes non-uniform and the conductivity becomes non-uniform, resulting in a large and small distribution of current density. In addition, since the current density increases toward the center, a local pH gradient occurs. As a result, there is a problem that scale is generated in the concentrating chamber and the processing capacity is lowered.
In addition, since the desalting chamber has a single-chamber structure, the ion exchanger filled in the desalting chamber is often a mixed bed, and therefore the ability to remove carbonic acid and silica, which are weak acid components, was not high. .
An object of the present invention is to provide a spiral EDI in which the generation of scale is suppressed and the ion removal capability is improved.
The spiral EDI of the present invention is a spiral in which an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane are wound around a center electrode, and a desalting chamber and a concentration chamber are formed in the outer peripheral electrode by the anion exchange membrane and the cation exchange membrane. A spiral-type electric deionized water production apparatus having an element, wherein the demineralization chamber is divided into a plurality of small demineralization chambers in the axial direction of the spiral element, and communicates between the small demineralization chambers. A pipe is provided.
In the spiral EDI of the present invention, a plurality of cell pairs are formed by a small desalting chamber, an anion exchange membrane and a cation exchange membrane sandwiching the small desalting chamber, and a concentration chamber, and each cell pair is separated. Alternatively, the number of windings and / or the winding direction for each separated cell pair may be different. In addition, the spiral element for each cell pair may be separated, and a pipe of a small desalting chamber of each cell pair may be connected to a pipe of a small desalting chamber of an adjacent cell pair adjacent to the cell pair. The separated spiral elements may be installed in different pressure vessels.
In the spiral EDI of the present invention, the center electrode may also serve as a pipe. Further, each of the small desalting chambers may be filled with an ion exchanger of a different type and / or composition, and an independent central electrode is installed in each spiral element of each small desalting chamber, The applied current applied to the salt chamber may be controlled separately.
The spiral type EDI of the present invention has a cation at least 10% from the treated water inlet side with respect to the total flow path length (the total distance from the outer peripheral end to the inner peripheral end of each small desalting chamber). It is preferable that the ion exchanger is filled so that the ratio of the exchanger or the anion exchanger exceeds 50% by volume, and it is preferable that the concentration chamber is filled with the ion exchanger.
With the spiral EDI of the present invention, the generation of scale is suppressed and the ion removal capability is improved.

A method for producing deionized water in the spiral EDI 8 of the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. As described above, in the spiral EDI 8 of this embodiment, the upstream
A DC voltage is applied to the
The liquid A3 to be treated that has flowed into the downstream
On the other hand, the concentrated water B1 that has flowed into the
Although the to-be-processed water A1 is not specifically limited, The water etc. which processed the water which removed the turbid component of the industrial water and the well water with the turbidity membrane with the reverse osmosis (RO) membrane, etc. are mentioned.
The flow rate of the treated water A1 in the upstream
On the other hand, if the SV is too low, the flow rate of the water to be treated A1 in the upstream
The amount of liquid passing through the downstream
The amount of the concentrated water B1 passing through the
If the flow rate of the concentrated water B1 is too small, uneven concentration diffusion of ions transferred to the
The concentrated water B1 is not particularly limited, and water from the same water source as the treated water A1 may be used as the concentrated water B1, or deionized water A4, pure water, or the like may be used.
The current to be applied is not particularly limited, and is preferably determined in consideration of the water quality of the treated water A1, the scale of the spiral EDI 8, and the like.
In this embodiment, since the

CO 3 2− + Ca 2+ → CaCO 3 (2)
In a single-chamber desalination chamber filled with a mixed bed ion exchanger, CO 3 2− and hardness components such as Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ migrate from the counter electrode to the same concentration chamber. A hardness scale such as calcium carbonate may be generated under conditions such as when the hardness component concentration of the treated water is high or when the operating current density is set high. In the present embodiment, as described above, the location where the anion component and the cation component are transferred to the concentration chamber is divided into the upstream side and the downstream side, respectively, thereby making it possible to suppress the generation of scale in the concentration chamber. .
Furthermore, under conditions where the ionic components in the water to be treated that have flowed into the desalting chamber are immediately eliminated, the ionic components in the water to be treated migrate from each small desalting chamber to the concentrating chamber at the beginning of the flow of the water to be treated. It is thought that. That is, most of the anion component in the water to be treated is transferred to the

Carbonic acid, silica and the like are weak acid components and exist even in a non-ionized state. In this embodiment, the composition of the ion exchange resin in the upstream
(Reduction of operating voltage)
When the deionized water is produced according to the present embodiment, the operation voltage can be operated at a significantly lower voltage than the operation voltage when the conventional mixed bed ion exchange resin is filled. This is because, in the case of a single-bed ion exchange resin, there is no heterogeneous ion interface between the anion exchanger and the cation exchanger other than the interface between the ion exchanger and the ion exchange membrane in the
As described above, the spiral EDI 8 can achieve improved processing capability and high stability, and can produce deionized water with a low operating voltage.

The manufacturing method of the deionized water in this embodiment is demonstrated.

The upstream concentrated water flows from the upstream
According to this embodiment, the post-upstream concentrated water that has circulated through the upstream concentrating chamber does not flow into the downstream concentrating chamber. For this reason, the upstream post-concentrated concentrated water in which the concentration of the anion component is increased through the upstream concentration chamber does not flow through the downstream concentration chamber, and scale generation can be further suppressed. Moreover, the process according to the quality of to-be-processed water can be performed by changing the liquid flow rate of upstream concentrated water and downstream concentrated water. As a result, higher processing capability can be obtained.
Furthermore, since the concentrated water can be made a separate system for each spiral element, the ionic components excluded from the upstream desalination chamber to the concentration chamber are back-diffused from the downstream concentration chamber to the desalination chamber. This can also be suppressed, and a higher quality of treated water can be obtained.
(Other embodiments)
The spiral EDI of the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment.
In the first to fourth embodiments, the anion exchange resin is filled in the upstream small desalting chamber and the cation exchange resin is filled in the downstream small desalting chamber, but the ion exchanger filled in the desalting chamber is It does not specifically limit, What is necessary is just to have an ion exchange function. In addition to ion exchange resins, for example, ion exchange fibers, monolithic porous ion exchangers and the like can be mentioned. Among these, an ion exchange resin that is most versatile and hardly causes a gap between the membrane and the ion exchanger even when wrinkles or the like occur in the ion exchange membrane is preferable. These may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
The ion exchanger used in the upstream small desalination chamber and downstream small desalination chamber is an anion exchanger single bed, a cation exchanger single bed, a mixed bed of an anion exchanger and a cation exchanger, or a combination thereof. Any of these can be used. For example, the upstream small desalting chamber can be filled with a single cation exchanger, and the downstream small desalting chamber can be filled with an anion exchanger single bed. When the upstream small desalting chamber is a cation exchanger and the downstream small desalting chamber is an anion exchanger, heavy metal ions and hardness components can be removed in the upstream small desalting chamber. In the downstream small desalting chamber, even if an anion exchanger is present, the pH is unlikely to be inclined to the alkaline side because heavy metal ions remain very little. For this reason, it is possible to prevent the formation of a hardly soluble hydroxide salt in the anion exchanger in the downstream small desalting chamber.
In addition, when the upstream small desalting chamber is a single bed of cation exchanger or anion exchanger and the downstream small desalting chamber is a mixed bed ion exchanger, ion removal in the resin layer in the previous stage is insufficient. Even in this case, it can be removed in the downstream small desalting chamber.
For the above reasons, the upstream small desalting chamber and the downstream small desalting chamber are preferably filled with ion exchangers having different compositions.
The ion exchanger filled in the upstream small desalting chamber and the downstream small desalting chamber may have a different composition for each region. For example, the ratio of the anion exchanger or cation exchanger exceeds 50% by volume in a distance of at least 10% from the treated water inlet side of the upstream small desalination chamber with respect to the total channel length. It is preferable that Further, the ratio of the anion exchanger or the cation exchanger exceeds 50% by volume in a distance of at least 10% from the deionized water outlet side of the downstream small desalting chamber with respect to the total flow path length. May be.
By using the upstream small desalination chamber or / and the downstream small desalination chamber having such a region, the upstream small desalination chamber and the downstream small desalination chamber complement each other, and the deionization capacity is improved. This is because improvement can be achieved.
If the water to be treated contains high-concentration components or the desalination chamber has a thin structure, the interior of the desalination chamber is not filled with an ion exchanger and a spacer such as a mesh is arranged. You may do it. What is necessary is just a structure in which the water to be treated flows smoothly and the ion exchange membranes forming the desalting chamber do not contact each other.
In the first to fourth embodiments, the concentration chamber is formed by a spacer, but the concentration chamber may be filled with an ion exchanger.
In the first, third, and fourth embodiments, the concentrated water flows from the concentrated water inlet to the concentrated water outlet, but the direction of water flow is not limited in any way, and the concentrated water inlet and the concentrated water outlet are not limited. It is also possible to control the flow direction of the concentrated water by changing the installation location. For example, it may be in the same direction as the flow direction of the liquid to be processed in the spiral element desalting chamber, or may be in the opposite direction. Similarly to the second embodiment, a structure may be adopted in which concentrated water advances substantially straight in the axial direction of the spiral element from the top surface to the bottom surface of the spiral element. That is, the concentrated water may be circulated in a direction that faces perpendicularly to the traveling direction of the water to be treated in the desalting chamber.

(Water quality evaluation)
<Conductivity / specific resistance>
For water quality evaluation, conductivity and specific resistance were used. In the case of water containing no impurities, the theoretical value of conductivity in water at 25 ° C. is 0.055 μS / cm, and the theoretical value of specific resistance is 18.2 MΩ · cm. As for the water quality of deionized water, the specific resistance approaches 18.2 MΩ · cm, and the higher, the higher the water quality. Deionized water quality was evaluated with specific resistance.
The conductivity was measured using a conductivity meter (873CC, manufactured by FOXBORO). The specific resistance was measured using a specific resistance meter (873RS, manufactured by FOXBORO).
<Silica concentration>
Water quality was evaluated by measuring the silica concentration, which is an index of EDI processing performance. The silica concentration was measured by molybdenum blue absorptiometry using a spectrophotometer (U-3010, manufactured by Hitachi High-Technology Corporation).
(Production Example 1)
The center electrode was the anode and the outer electrode was the cathode. A 1 m × 1 m anion exchange membrane (manufactured by Astom Co., Ltd.) and a cation exchange membrane (manufactured by Astom Co., Ltd.) were opposed to each other, and three sides were bonded with an adhesive to prepare a substantially bag-shaped ion exchange membrane. The ion exchange membrane was provided with a separation wall that bisects the longitudinal direction of the opening of the ion exchange membrane, and provided with an upstream small desalination chamber and a downstream small desalination chamber. Created by mixing 2.5 L of anion exchange resin Amberlite (trade name, manufactured by Rohm and Haas) and 2.5 L of cation exchange resin Amberlite (trade name, manufactured by Rohm and Haas) 2.5 L each of the upstream small desalting chamber and the downstream small desalting chamber was filled with the ion exchange resin in the mixed bed. The center electrode was provided with holes in a portion facing the upstream small desalination chamber and a portion facing the downstream small desalination chamber. The upstream small desalting chamber and the downstream small desalting chamber were arranged so as to correspond to the holes provided in the center electrode, respectively. The ion exchange membrane and the spacer were wound around the center electrode so that a concentration chamber was formed on both sides of the desalting chamber prepared as described above. At this time, winding was performed so that an anion exchange membrane was formed on the inner peripheral side and a cation exchange membrane was formed on the outer peripheral side with the side where the center electrode was installed as the center. A 1 mm thick mesh was used for the spacer. An outer peripheral electrode was wound around the outermost periphery.
A treated water inlet was provided at the outer peripheral end of the upstream small desalting chamber, and a deionized water outlet was provided at the outer peripheral end of the downstream small desalting chamber. In the pressure vessel, an inflow side space was provided between the surface of the spiral element on which the water inlet for processing was provided and the inner wall surface of the pressure vessel, and a flow distribution plate was installed in the inflow side space. Similarly, an outflow side space was provided between the surface provided with the deionized water outlet and the inner wall of the pressure vessel, and a flow distribution plate was installed in the outflow side space. The concentrated water inlet was provided on the end face of the pressure vessel on the side having the inflow side space, and the concentrated water outlet was provided on the end face of the pressure vessel on the side having the outflow side space. In this way, the concentrated water is caused to travel substantially straight in the axial direction of the spiral element from the inflow side space to the outflow side space in the concentration chamber. Thus, spiral type EDI-1 installed so as to flow in a direction perpendicular to the flow direction of the water to be treated in the desalination chamber was obtained.

(Comparative Example 1)
About the obtained spiral EDI, deionized water was produced under the same conditions as in Example 2. Production of deionized water was performed, and the water quality of the deionized water obtained after 200 hours was evaluated. The results are shown in Table 1. In addition, the operating voltage at the time when 200 hours elapsed was examined, and the results are also shown in Table 1.
From the results of Example 1, the water quality of deionized water is 10.1 to 10.9 MΩ · cm, which is not very high, but the operating voltage is stable even after 2000 hours of deionized water production. It was.
In Example 2, the quality of the deionized water obtained was 15.8 to 16.9 MΩ even after the production of deionized water was carried out for 2000 hours, even though calcium was added to the water to be treated to deteriorate the water quality. -The water quality was as high as cm and was stable. Also, the silica concentration was maintained at a high level of 0.001 to 0.005 mg / L. And it was found that the operating voltage was also stable at a low level of 42 to 43 V, and it was possible to produce deionized water for a long time very stably. Moreover, when 2000 hours passed from the start of deionized water production, when spiral type EDI-1 and spiral type EDI-2 were disassembled, no scale formation was observed in the concentrating chamber.
On the other hand, in Comparative Example 1, after 200 hours of deionized water production, the deionized water has a low water quality of 3.1 to 4.0 MΩ · cm and a silica concentration of 0.250 to 0.300 mg / L. It was. Also, the operating voltage was 150V or higher. Furthermore, when 220 hours passed from the start of deionized water production, the spiral EDI-3 was disassembled, and it was confirmed that scale was generated in the concentration chamber.
From the above, in Examples 1 and 2, it was found that scale generation can be suppressed and deionized water with high water quality can be produced over a long period of time.
