Abstract
【解決手段】外光センサ16によって、装置周囲の外光(環境光Ls)を受光する。そして受光した環境光Lsの光量に応じて、バックライト制御部12が光源部10内の各部分点灯部4の発光量をそれぞれ制御する。また、このような環境光Lsの光量に加え、RGBプロセス処理部60から供給されるRGB信号に含まれる映像の輝度情報を加味して各部分点灯部4の発光量をそれぞれ制御するようにしてもよい。

Description
図1は、本発明の第1の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置(液晶表示装置3)の全体構成を表すものである。この液晶表示装置3は、透過光を表示光Doutとして出射するいわゆる透過型の液晶表示装置であり、本発明の第1の実施の形態に係る光源装置としてのバックライト装置1と、透過型の液晶表示パネル2とを含んで構成されている。
次に、本発明の第2の実施の形態について説明する。本実施の形態のバックライト装置1は、第1の実施の形態で説明した外光(環境光Ls)の光量に加え、RGB信号に含まれる映像の輝度情報をも加味して各部分点灯部4の発光量を制御するようにしたものである。なお、第1の実施の形態における構成要素と同一のものには同一の符号を付し、適宜説明を省略する。
Claims (7)
- 入射光を映像信号に基づいて変調する液晶パネルを備えた液晶表示装置に適用される光源装置であって、
互いに独立して制御可能な複数の部分点灯部を有すると共に各部分点灯部からの光を前記入射光として前記液晶パネルへ発する光源部と、
前記部分点灯部単位で点灯するように前記光源部を駆動する駆動手段と、
装置周囲の環境光を受光する受光素子と、
前記受光素子により受光した環境光の光量および前記映像信号に含まれる表示映像の輝度分布に応じて前記駆動手段を制御し、各部分点灯部の発光量をそれぞれ制御する制御手段と
を備えたことを特徴とする光源装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記環境光の光量が所定の閾値よりも少ない場合には、所定の輝度以上で発光する部分点灯部の発光量が減少するように制御する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光源装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記環境光の光量が前記閾値よりも多い場合には、所定の輝度以上で発光する部分点灯部の発光量が増加するように制御する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光源装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記環境光の光量が所定の閾値よりも少ない場合には、所定の輝度以上で発光する部分点灯部の発光量が減少するように制御する一方、前記環境光の光量が前記閾値よりも多い場合には、所定の輝度以上で発光する部分点灯部の発光量が増加するように制御する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光源装置。 - 前記駆動手段は、前記光源部の各部分点灯部をパルス信号により駆動し、
前記制御手段は、前記パルス信号の幅および高さのうちの少なくとも一方を変化させることによって各部分点灯部の発光量をそれぞれ制御する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光源装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記表示映像の輝度分布に基づいて映像表示領域のうちの高輝度領域に対応する領域の部分点灯部の発光量が他の部分点灯部の発光量よりも増加するように制御しつつ、前記環境光の光量に応じて各部分点灯部の発光量を制御する
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光源装置。 - 光を発する照明手段と、
前記照明手段から発せられた光を映像信号に基づいて変調する液晶パネルと
を備え、
前記照明手段は、
互いに独立して制御可能な複数の部分点灯部を有する光源部と、
前記部分点灯部単位で点灯するように前記光源部を駆動する駆動手段と、
装置周囲の環境光を受光する受光素子と、
前記受光素子により受光した環境光の光量および前記映像信号に含まれる表示映像の輝度分布に応じて前記駆動手段を制御し、各部分点灯部の発光量をそれぞれ制御する制御手段とを有する
ことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
