Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a magnetic transfer method, a master recording medium, a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, and a magnetic recording / reproducing apparatus. In particular, the present invention relates to a magnetic transfer method for performing magnetic transfer on a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, a master recording medium, and a perpendicular magnetic recording. The present invention relates to a medium and a magnetic recording / reproducing apparatus.
In recent years, magnetic recording / reproducing apparatuses have a tendency to increase the recording density in order to realize a small size and a large capacity. In particular, in the field of hard disk drives, which are typical magnetic storage devices, technological progress is rapid.
As a technique for increasing the recording density, the magnetic recording head can be made narrower by the practical use of a magnetoresistive element type head (MR head). In order to accurately scan a narrow track and obtain a high reproduction signal S / N, the tracking servo technology of the magnetic head is important. For this reason, in current hard disk drives, an area in which tracking servo signals, address information, reproduction clock signals, etc. are recorded in advance is provided at regular angular intervals on the disk, and the magnetic head reproduces these signals. Thus, it is possible to accurately track the head while confirming and correcting the position of the head.
Recording these servo signals for tracking, address signals, and the like in advance is called preformat recording, and is generally performed first because it serves as a reference for recording and reproducing information on a magnetic recording medium. At present, preformat recording is performed sequentially with precise position control, requiring a lot of time, and a dedicated servo recording device is quite expensive. There is a problem that the cost of the magnetic recording / reproducing apparatus becomes very high.
For this reason, a magnetic transfer system has been proposed in which pre-format recording is batch-transferred using a master disk (master recording medium). According to this method, preformat recording can be performed in a short time and at low cost.
In this magnetic transfer system, a magnetic disk such as an electromagnet device or a permanent magnet device is applied to one side or both sides of a master disk (master recording medium) and a transfer magnetic disk (magnetic recording medium, slave disk) in close contact with each other. By applying a transfer magnetic field by means, information recorded on the master disk (for example, information such as a tracking servo signal) is transferred and preformat recording is performed.
As a method for increasing the density of the magnetic recording medium, there is a perpendicular magnetic recording method. In the perpendicular magnetic recording, the recording density is improved but the recording / reproducing method is different from that in the case where the in-plane magnetic film is used for the conventional magnetic layer. Therefore, as described above, when preformat recording is performed by batch transfer by the magnetic transfer method, a method different from the case of using the in-plane magnetization film is employed.
In
However, in the bit print (BP), a reproduced waveform equivalent to the waveform recorded by the magnetic head can be obtained. Therefore, the servo information is recorded by magnetic transfer and the servo correction information is recorded by the magnetic head. Although a good reproduction signal can be obtained, the magnetic flux originally present in the concave portion concentrates on the convex portion of the concave / convex pattern formed on the master disk. The magnetic flux density in the part is different, and therefore the magnetically transferred information becomes a nonuniform signal, and the S / N of the magnetically transferred signal is lowered as a whole.
On the other hand, in edge printing (EP), since the magnetic flux density does not change due to the width of the recess area, uniform magnetic transfer can be performed and high S / N can be obtained. Since the signal waveform of the recorded information is different from the signal waveform recorded by the magnetic head, the signal written by the magnetic head and the magnetic transfer are written using the electric circuit for reproducing signal processing for the magnetic head as it is. It was difficult to properly read the received signal together.
In view of the above circumstances, the present invention can obtain a high S / N ratio by performing magnetic transfer by the method according to the present invention, and can perform electrical processing for signal processing for reproducing information recorded by a magnetic head. A magnetic transfer method and a master recording medium that can be reproduced by a circuit, a perpendicular magnetic recording medium magnetically transferred by the method, and a magnetic recording / reproducing apparatus are provided.
According to the first aspect of the present invention, the magnetic property of the master recording medium in which the magnetic layer is formed in accordance with the information to be recorded in order to transfer the information to the perpendicular magnetic recording medium in which the perpendicular magnetic recording layer is formed on the surface of the disk-shaped substrate. An adhesion step for closely adhering the surface on which the layer is formed; and the adhering perpendicular magnetic recording while applying a magnetic field by a magnetic field applying means for applying a magnetic field parallel to the adhering perpendicular magnetic recording medium and the master recording medium The magnetic transfer method includes a magnetic transfer step in which magnetic transfer is performed by rotating the magnetic field applying unit relative to the medium and the master recording medium about the center of the perpendicular magnetic recording medium.
As a result, a reproduced waveform close to the waveform recorded by the magnetic head is obtained.
However, since the side peak SP occurs as will be described later, the S / N is not so high. In order to further improve this, there are the following methods. The first method is to set the interval in the down track direction of the bit pattern of the magnetic recording layer of the master recording medium in consideration of the gap length of the reproducing head that determines the reproducing resolution. If the value is less than a certain value, even if a signal that causes noise is recorded on the magnetic recording medium, it cannot be reproduced, and therefore it does not become noise.

Hereinafter, a magnetic transfer method according to a first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[Magnetic disk for transfer]
As shown in FIG. 1A, first, initial magnetization of a transfer
The transfer
The disk-shaped substrate is made of a material such as glass or Al (aluminum), and a magnetic layer is formed after forming a nonmagnetic layer on the substrate.
The nonmagnetic layer is provided for reasons such as increasing the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the magnetic layer to be formed later. The material used for the nonmagnetic layer is preferably Ti (titanium), Cr (chromium), CrTi, CoCr, CrTa, CrMo, NiAl, Ru (ruthenium), Pd (palladium), or the like. The nonmagnetic layer is formed by depositing the above material by a sputtering method. The thickness of the nonmagnetic layer is preferably 10 nm to 150 nm, and more preferably 20 nm to 80 nm.
The magnetic layer is formed of a perpendicular magnetization film, and information is recorded on the magnetic layer. The material used for the magnetic layer is preferably Co (cobalt), Co alloy (CoPtCr, CoCr, CoPtCrTa, CoPtCrNbTa, CoCrB, CoNi, CoSm, etc.), Fe, Fe alloy (FeCo, FePt, FeCoNi, etc.) and the like. It is preferable to add oxygen, SiO 2 or the like to the above material because good magnetic properties can be obtained without heating the substrate during the formation of the magnetic layer. Since these materials have a high magnetic flux density and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, they can increase the recording density of the magnetic recording medium and have excellent transfer characteristics. The magnetic layer is formed by depositing the above material by a sputtering method. The thickness of the magnetic layer is preferably 10 nm to 500 nm, and more preferably 20 nm to 200 nm.
If necessary, a soft magnetic layer may be provided between the substrate and the nonmagnetic layer. This is to stabilize the perpendicular magnetization state of the magnetic layer and improve the sensitivity during recording and reproduction. The thickness of the soft magnetic layer is preferably 50 nm to 2000 nm, and more preferably 80 nm to 400 nm.
Specifically, in the present embodiment, a disk-shaped glass substrate having an outer diameter of 95 mm (3.5 inches) is used as the substrate of the magnetic disk for transfer. A glass substrate is set in the chamber of the sputtering apparatus, and after reducing the pressure to 1.33 × 10 −5 Pa (1.0 × 10 −7 Torr), Ar (argon) gas is introduced into the chamber, and the Ru target is Sputtering film formation is performed by using and discharging. The substrate temperature at this time is room temperature. Thereby, a nonmagnetic layer made of Ru is formed to a thickness of 60 nm.
Thereafter, Ar gas is introduced in the same manner as described above, and sputtering film formation is performed by discharging using a CoCrPt—SiO 2 target in the same chamber. The substrate temperature at this time is room temperature. Thereby, a magnetic layer made of CoCrPt—SiO 2 is formed to a thickness of 25 nm.
By the above process, a transfer magnetic disk having a nonmagnetic layer and a magnetic layer formed on a glass substrate is formed.
The magnetic disk for

[Master disk]
Next, the master disk will be described.
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
Hereinafter, the stamper method will be described. In the stamper method, a press master is used, and a manufacturing process of this press master will be described. Laser light that has been modulated on a circular substrate made of glass or quartz glass with a smooth surface by applying a photoresist layer by spin coating, etc., and rotating this circular substrate after pre-baking, and modulating it in response to the signal to be recorded (Or an electron beam) is applied to the photoresist layer to form a predetermined pattern on substantially the entire surface of the photoresist layer.
For example, when a servo signal is recorded, a pattern corresponding to a servo signal extending linearly in the radial direction from the center of rotation is exposed on each track. Thereafter, the exposed substrate is immersed in a developer to remove the exposed portion of the photoresist layer, thereby producing a glass master having a photoresist layer formed in a predetermined region on the glass substrate. . Ni plating (electroforming) is performed on the surface of the surface of the glass master on which the photoresist layer is formed, and a Ni master having a positive uneven pattern on the surface is formed to a predetermined thickness. Peel from the glass master. Although this Ni master can be used as a stamp master press (die), if necessary, a soft magnetic layer, a protective film, etc. may be coated on the concave / convex pattern of the Ni master stamp master press. (Mold). This is because the formation of the soft magnetic layer, the protective film, and the like improves the magnetic characteristics of the subsequently produced transfer magnetic disk.
After the development, the surface of the glass master having a photoresist layer formed in a predetermined area is plated to produce a second master, and the surface of the second master is further Ni-plated to form a negative You may produce the Ni original disk which has an unevenness | corrugation. Further, the surface of the second master is plated, or a low-viscosity resin is pressed and cured to produce a third master, and the surface of the third master is Ni-plated to form a positive You may produce the Ni original disk which has an unevenness | corrugation.
Ni and Ni alloys are mainly used as the material constituting the Ni master. As a method of forming this Ni master, it is possible to produce by a vacuum film forming method such as sputtering or ion plating in addition to the plating method by the electroplating or electroless plating described above. The resist applied on the substrate can be either a positive type or a negative type. However, it should be noted that the exposure pattern is reversed between the positive type and the negative type.
Next, using the Ni master thus formed as a press master, a

Next, a method for producing the
FIG. 3A shows the
In the present embodiment, the protrusion pattern has a length of 80 mm and a length of 200 mm, and the height (depth) of the protrusion pattern to be formed is preferably in the range of 20 nm to 300 nm. 30 nm to 200 nm is more preferable.
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 3B, a
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 3C, ashing with oxygen gas introduced is performed to remove a part of the

For example, the former dissociates CF-based gases such as CHF3 and CF4 (not used under the current conditions) in plasma, and a CF-based (fluorocarbon) polymer is generated and deposited on the substrate.
The polymer deposits on the surface of the substrate without fail. However, since ions are incident in the vertical direction of the substrate, the deposit on the side wall portion is relatively difficult to remove, and this is used to positively deposit the deposit. Under certain conditions, an angle is formed by etching while filling the groove.
In the latter, the energy of incident ions is made relatively high at the time of etching, and if the conditions that aggressively cut the resist mask are used, the corners are cut faster than the flat parts, so the width of the mask As the aperture gradually shrinks and the opening gradually widens, an angled shape is obtained as a result.
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 3D, a
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 3E, the magnetic film formed on the resist 49 is removed by lift-off. Specifically, the
The
Through the above process, the
A protective film such as diamond-like carbon may be provided on the
Specifically, the protective film preferably has a structure in which a diamond-like carbon film having a thickness of 2 to 30 nm is formed and a lubricant layer is further formed thereon. Further, in order to reinforce the adhesion between the

[Transfer process]
If the in-plane transfer magnetic field is too small, a sufficient reproduction waveform intensity S cannot be obtained as shown in FIG.
If it is too large, a reverse transfer magnetic field will appear at both ends of the magnetic layer of the master disk, resulting in a differential waveform and EP. It is necessary to take an appropriate value. Near Hc is good.
[Principle of magnetic transfer in the present invention]
Next, information recorded on the
FIGS. 5A and 6A show patterns of the
Next, a case where a parallel magnetic field, that is, an in-plane magnetic field is applied to the
Next, FIG. 5D shows the magnetization direction in the
The side peak SP will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 7A shows a pattern of the
In the embodiment of the present invention, magnetic transfer in this state is used. More specifically, based on FIG. 7, FIG. 8A shows a bit pattern of the
On the other hand, the bit pattern interval T of the
The one-side gap of the reproducing head in this case means the distance from the inside of the shield to the end of the MR element. Further, FIG. 5E shows the magnetization direction in the
As described above, in the embodiment of the present invention, the
[Magnetic transfer process]
Next, based on the above description of magnetic transfer, the magnetic transfer process in the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
A magnetic field is applied by the magnetic field applying means 30 for the
The magnetic field applying means 30 of the magnetic transfer apparatus is composed of an electromagnet in which a coil (not shown) is wound around a
In the magnetic transfer, a rotating
FIG. 4 shows a state where information is recorded in the
FIG. 4B shows a state when a recording magnetic field Hd is applied parallel to the disk surfaces of the
In the central portion of the area where the
Further, in the central portion of the area where the
FIG. 4C shows the state of the
In addition to the structure shown in FIG. 4B, the
[Second Embodiment]
In the second embodiment, the cross-sectional shape of the
Specifically, as shown in FIG. 10A, the
Note that the
As described above, the transfer
[Third Embodiment]
The resolution of the reproduced waveform depends on the gap length of the reproducing magnetic head. If the gap length is wide, the resolution is lowered and there is no detailed signal. The sub-peak SP is the result of examining the relationship between the magnetic layer (bit pattern) interval of the master disk and the one-side gap length of the reproducing magnetic head, and as a result, the interval in the down-track direction of the bit pattern of the magnetic layer is 0 of the one-side gap length of the reproducing magnetic head. It was found that it hardly occurred when the ratio was less than 8 times. In the reproducing magnetic head having a one-side gap length g used in an HDD of 100 to 200 Gbits / in 2, the interval in the down track direction of the bit pattern was 10 nm to 80 nm or less.
