Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a secondary battery, in particular, a secondary battery having an electrolyte layer made of solid electrolyte particles, and a secondary battery unit.
In recent years, with the development of portable devices such as personal computers and mobile phones, the demand for small and lightweight batteries as the power source has become very large. In particular, lithium batteries have a low atomic weight of lithium, a large ionization energy, and a high energy density is expected. For this reason, research has been actively conducted, and now it is widely used as a power source for portable devices.
On the other hand, with the expansion of the lithium battery market, demands for higher energy density have progressed for the batteries, and the internal energy of the batteries has been increased by increasing the amount of active material contained in the batteries in response to this demand. I came. Along with this, an increase in the amount of organic solvent used in the electrolyte, which is a combustible substance used in the battery, has been recognized. As a result, the risk of battery ignition and the like has increased, and problems related to battery safety have recently been highlighted.
By the way, as a method for ensuring the safety of a lithium battery, it is extremely effective to change the organic solvent used in the electrolyte to a nonflammable solid electrolyte, and in particular, use a lithium ion conductive inorganic solid electrolyte. The research is actively conducted today because it leads to the development of an all-solid-state lithium battery with excellent safety.
For example, Non-Patent
However, in such a thin film lithium secondary battery, since a large amount of electrode active material cannot be held in the battery element, it is difficult to obtain a high capacity battery. Therefore, in order to obtain a battery with a high capacity, it is necessary to contain a large amount of battery active material in the electrode, and in order to obtain a configuration in which the ion conduction path and the electron conduction path are secured, the solid electrolyte powder and the electrode active material A bulk type battery having a large battery capacity is configured by using an electrode mixture composed of powder and forming an electrode using the electrode mixture.
In general, this bulk type battery is produced by compressing and molding an electrode material containing a positive electrode active material, a solid electrolyte and a negative electrode active material in a mold with a press machine. However, the obtained battery element is manufactured by storing it in a coin-type battery container.
However, in such a bulk-type battery, an all-solid lithium secondary battery using a sulfide-based lithium ion conductive solid electrolyte has a battery capacity of about 7% of the initial capacity after only a few cycles of charge / discharge. It has been shown that the degree is reduced (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 2).
Therefore, there is a demand for the development of a secondary battery (bulk type all-solid-state secondary battery) that can prevent the battery capacity from decreasing even with the progress of the charge / discharge cycle and has excellent performance. Yes.
The objective of this invention is providing the secondary battery and secondary battery unit which can prevent the fall of battery capacity also with progress of charging / discharging cycle, and have the outstanding performance.
Such an object is achieved by the present invention described below.
A secondary battery of the present invention is provided so as to cover a laminate including a pair of electrodes and an electrolyte layer including solid electrolyte particles provided between the pair of electrodes, and to cover at least an end portion of the laminate. And a restricting portion having a function of restricting expansion of the electrolyte layer in the surface direction.
As a result, the battery capacity can be prevented from decreasing even with the progress of the charge / discharge cycle, and the battery has excellent performance.
In the secondary battery according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the restricting portion is provided so as to cover the entire stacked body excluding the conductive portion connected to the electrode.
Thereby, not only the thickness direction of the electrolyte layer and the electrode (electrode layer), but also the function of restricting the expansion in the surface direction is more prominent, and the mechanical strength of the secondary battery as a whole is improved. It can be secured and function as a protective layer of the laminate.

In the secondary battery according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the restricting portion is composed of a plurality of layers having different constituent materials.
Even with this configuration, it is possible to effectively and surely exert a function of restricting expansion in the surface direction, not mainly in the thickness direction of the electrolyte layer and the electrode (electrode layer).
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the restricting portion is made of an insulating material.
Thereby, the short circuit with a positive electrode and a negative electrode can be prevented reliably.

By using these materials, the restricting portion can be formed more easily. It is also preferable because it is easy to obtain a restricting portion with high mechanical strength.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, at least one electrode of the pair of electrodes includes a base material provided with a filling portion filled with an electrode material, and at least the electrode material filled in the filling portion of the base material. It is preferable to comprise.
Even with such a configuration, it is possible to effectively and reliably exhibit the function of restricting the expansion in the surface direction of the electrode (electrode layer), not mainly in the thickness direction of the electrode (electrode layer).
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the base material has a function of preventing or suppressing expansion in the surface direction of the electrode including the base material.
Thereby, this laminated body is created by pressurizing the solid electrolyte particles so that the solid electrolyte layer is interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. Generally, in a battery, the crystal of the electrode active material in the electrode expands and contracts with charge / discharge. With respect to such a problem, that is, the occurrence of expansion and contraction (deformation) in the electrode is minimized in the present laminate. In addition, in the interface between the electrode active material and the electrolyte layer in the electrode, a gap is formed between the particle bonds, so that the electrode current collector substrate generated in the electrode, the electronic at the interface between the electrode active material and the electrolyte layer, are formed. It is possible to minimize the occurrence of bonding inhibition. In addition, the mechanical strength of the secondary battery as a whole can be improved.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the base material has conductivity on at least the surface thereof and has a function of uniforming the current density in the electrode.
This makes it possible to make the current density uniform in the current distribution flowing in the electrode when the secondary battery is charged and discharged. Therefore, a region having a high current density is prevented from being locally generated in the electrode, and consequently, the volume expansion and contraction of the significant local electrode material (active material) in the region are suppressed. As a result, electronic bonding and ionic conduction inhibition inside the positive and negative electrodes are minimized, and the inhibition of bonding between the electrode (electrode layer) and the electrolyte layer based on void formation between the particles of the electrolyte layer is minimized. And the deterioration of the charge / discharge characteristics of the secondary battery can be suitably suppressed or prevented.

In the secondary battery according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the base material includes a reinforcing portion that is provided along an outer peripheral portion thereof and has a function of reinforcing the base material.
This can reliably prevent the base material from being deformed (expanded, curved, bent, etc.). For this reason, especially when it is desired to provide the base material with an electrode expansion preventing function, the function is more remarkably exhibited.

In the secondary battery according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the base material includes a reinforcing plate that is provided on the side opposite to the electrolyte layer and has a function of reinforcing the base material.
This can reliably prevent the base material from being deformed (expanded, curved, bent, etc.). For this reason, especially when it is desired to provide the base material with an electrode expansion preventing function, the function is more remarkably exhibited.
In the secondary battery according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the base material is made of a net member having a through hole as the filling portion.
This minimizes the occurrence of expansion / contraction (deformation), etc., that occurs in the electrode when the secondary battery is used (during charge / discharge), and suppresses the formation of voids between the electrolyte particle joints of the electrolyte layer. Inhibition of bonding between the (electrode layer) and the electrolyte layer can be minimized. In addition, the mechanical strength of the secondary battery as a whole can be improved.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the electrode has an electrode material layer made of the electrode material having an average thickness of 120 μm or less on the electrolyte layer side of the substrate in a side view of the electrode.
Thereby, the effect of providing a base material in an electrode comes to be exhibited notably.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the electrode material includes an electrode active material and a solid electrolyte material.
Thereby, the exchange of ions between the electrode and the electrolyte layer is performed smoothly, and the characteristics (charge / discharge characteristics) of the secondary battery can be further improved.

The present invention can be applied to various secondary batteries, but is preferably applied to a lithium secondary battery or a silver ion secondary battery.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, the lithium ion conductor is preferably a sulfide type lithium ion conductor.
Thereby, the characteristic of a lithium secondary battery can be aimed at.
In the secondary battery of the present invention, it is preferable that the lithium ion conductor includes at least one of crystalline and amorphous.
Using a crystalline lithium ion conductor (for example, thiolysicon) is superior in electrode moldability, so that the interfacial bonding in the electrode is improved, so that the output current from the produced battery can be increased. There is an advantage. In addition, the use of an amorphous lithium ion conductor having no anisotropy in the flow of current gives the material excellent in battery storage performance as a result of its excellent thermal stability. There is an advantage of reducing the current density distribution in the used electrode. Furthermore, by mixing and using crystalline and amorphous lithium ion conductors, an effect of synergizing them can be expected.

The fixing member is lower in hardness than the restricting portion, and has a function of relaxing expansion and contraction of the battery container accompanying expansion and contraction of the secondary battery.
Thereby, it is possible to accurately suppress or prevent the battery container from being deformed due to the expansion and contraction of the secondary battery.

Thereby, the fixing member can reversibly relax the expansion and contraction of the battery container.
In the secondary battery unit of the present invention, it is preferable that the fixing member has a large thickness on the end side of the laminate.
Thereby, the secondary battery unit (all-solid secondary battery) can be thinned while reliably providing the fixing member with a function capable of relaxing expansion and contraction (volume change) of the battery container.

The present inventor conducted the following examination in order to investigate the cause of the decrease in the battery capacity caused by the charge / discharge cycle of the secondary battery.
First, a silver ion conductor (Ag 6 I 4 WO 4 ) is used as a solid electrolyte, δ-type silver vanadate (δ-Ag 0.7 V 2 O 5 ) is used as a positive electrode active material, and metallic silver (Ag) is used as a negative electrode active material. Using this, a silver ion conductive all solid state secondary battery was prepared, and the current distribution state inside the battery flowing during battery charging / discharging was examined.

That is, the result that the metallic silver or massive metallic silver is deposited on the periphery of the electrode (negative electrode 40) of the
(N.Aotani, K.Iwamoto, K.takada and S.Kondo, Solid State Ionics [68(1994)35−38]参照)。
Moreover, the movement of ions when using a solid electrolyte (solid electrolyte particle) in the form of a powder (particle) greatly contributes to the interface bonding state between the particles in contact with the solid electrolyte particle (N. Aotani, K. Iwamoto). , K. Takada and S. Kondo, Solid State Ionics [68 (1994) 35-38]).
For example, for amorphous sulfide type lithium ion conductors (electrolytic particles) of various particle sizes, particularly when forming an electrolyte layer using various electrolyte particle sizes, the ionic conductivity changes with respect to the molding pressure. It has been measured that the ionic conductivity is constant when the molding pressure is about 5 ton / cm 2 or more. In this state, the movement of ions at the contact interface between the electrolyte particles in the electrolyte layer was originally accompanied by bulk conduction and grain boundary conduction, so bulk conduction became the dominant, eliminating the grain boundary conduction problem. It has been reported that
When this is combined with the results of the
Therefore, this phenomenon is common to not only solid electrolyte secondary batteries using silver ion conductors but also secondary batteries using all kinds of powdered solid electrolytes (all-solid secondary batteries). Inferred.
For example, even in an all-solid lithium secondary battery, it is expected that the current flowing during the charge / discharge reaction has a property of flowing strongly around the periphery of the electrode inside the battery.
Based on such facts, in the secondary battery, it is assumed that the cause of the decrease in the battery capacity due to the charge / discharge cycle is as follows.
That is, first, in charging the battery, current concentrates and flows around the electrode inside the battery, and as a result, the volume of the positive electrode active material and the negative electrode active material at that portion significantly expands. As a result, the electrode layer spreads toward the outer peripheral portion of the electrode part, and the bonding between the bonding particles between the active material, the electrolyte, and the current collector substrate at the part is loosened. Along with this, a slip surface is likely to occur in the joint state at the joint surface between the electrolyte layer and the electrode layer, and the inter-particle joint of the electrolyte layer is also broken by the force that causes the slip. Next, when the battery charging is completed and the battery is in a discharged state, the electrode active material undergoes volume shrinkage, contrary to the time of charging. At this time, the electrode active material in a charged state existing in the current collector portion where current is most likely to flow (for example, the electrode active material in contact with the current collector in the vicinity of the current collector) is discharged. Will be involved. As a result, there is a space between the electrode active material that is in contact with the current collector closest to it (the active material in a discharged state) and the charged electrode active material that is in electronic contact. Inhibition occurs. As a result of such a phenomenon occurring inside the electrode, an undischarged electrode active material still exists. As a result, the discharge capacity of the battery is smaller than the amount of charged electricity. Subsequently, when the battery is charged, the above-described phenomenon occurs, and the amount of charged electricity is smaller than the initial amount. When this battery is discharged again, it becomes less than the second charge amount. As a result, in the conventional solid state battery, the charge / discharge capacity gradually decreases with the progress of the charge / discharge cycle, and a constant charge / discharge capacity is obtained in a state where the joined state inside the electrode is averaged.
This phenomenon is presumed that the larger the charging current is, the more the difference in the current density distribution in the electrode becomes, and the cutting of the junction interface is proportional to the energization time, in other words, the energized electricity.
As described above, when the charging / discharging cycle of the battery is repeated, the interfacial bonding inhibition during charging proceeds for a while from the electrode peripheral part (outer part) of the battery element toward the electrode central part. Therefore, the discharge capacity of the
As described above, in this battery, it is considered that each time the battery is charged / discharged, the electronic junction and the ion conduction path are cut (broken) inside, and accordingly, the discharge capacity is reduced for a while.
Here, considering the volume change of the electrode active material, in general, the change is about 10 times at maximum in the active material using the reversible metal precipitation phenomenon. Further, using an intercalation compound and utilizing a reversible insertion / desorption reaction of ions between the crystal layers, it is about 5%. As a result, when a battery is configured using an intercalation compound, for example, if the electrode can be formed of only one intercalation compound, the volume change of the electrode does not appear in the thickness direction when the battery is charged / discharged. The change in the surface direction is expected to be large.
For this reason, the present inventor regulates not only the thickness direction of the all-solid-state secondary battery (battery element) but also the expansion in the surface direction, particularly in the peripheral part inside the electrode (electrode layer). This prevents the active material particle bonding and the conduction inhibition of the ion conduction path and the increase in the bonding inhibition part at the periphery of the electrolyte layer, and the bonding state of the electrode (electrode layer) and the electrolyte layer is close to the initial state From the viewpoint of preventing the battery capacity from decreasing due to the progress of the charge / discharge cycle, it was thought that maintaining the shape was important, and the present invention was completed.
That is, the secondary battery (all solid state secondary battery) of the present invention covers a laminate including a pair of electrodes and an electrolyte layer provided between the pair of electrodes, and covers at least an end portion of the laminate. And a regulating portion having a function of regulating expansion in the surface direction as well as the thickness direction of the electrolyte layer. Thereby, the secondary battery of this invention can prevent the fall of a battery capacity also with progress of charging / discharging cycle, and has the outstanding performance.

The
And the
The large role of the restricting
On the other hand, the

By the way, in this invention, as demonstrated in the said 1st Embodiment, in the

The sulfide-based lithium ion conductor preferably contains at least one of crystalline and amorphous. By using a crystalline lithium ion conductor, for example, the use of chilli silicon is because the material is excellent in electrode moldability, so that the interfacial bonding in the electrode is improved, so that the output current from the created battery is There is an advantage that can be increased.

(Sample No. 1B: Comparative example)
Sample No. A laminated body (battery element) prepared in the same manner as 1A, that is, a laminated body obtained through the above steps <I> to <V> was converted into a coin battery container (CR2012 type, inner diameter of about 18 mmφ shown in FIG. The inner battery thickness was about 1.14 mm), and the sealing plate was pressed under pressure to produce a secondary battery (coin-type secondary battery). When inserting the prepared battery element into the coin container, a copper disk-shaped spacer having a thickness of 300 μm is interposed on the negative electrode side so that the container and the container lid and the excess space are eliminated, so that the electrical connection is sufficient. I made it.
The discharge behavior according to the charge / discharge cycle test of the obtained secondary battery was measured using the sample No. 1 described above. The results (charge / discharge characteristics) were examined in the same manner as in 1A, and the results are shown in FIG. Moreover, the change of the discharge capacity accompanying a charge / discharge cycle is shown in FIG.
As a result, the discharge capacity for the initial charge was approximately 25 mAh / gr (about 80% of the charge capacity), and the second charge was approximately 27 mAh / gr, whereas the discharge capacity was Was about 21 mAh / gr, and along with the charge / discharge cycle, the discharge capacity of the battery decreased for a while. After about 10 cycles, the discharge capacity dropped to about 7 mAh / gr, and then converged at a constant discharge capacity.
As is clear from the results of Example 1, sample No. 1 in which the laminate was covered with hot melt resin was used. In the 1A secondary battery, it was found that the battery capacity was hardly reduced due to the charge / discharge cycle. On the other hand, sample No. which does not cover a laminated body with hot-melt resin (it does not press the whole laminated body). In the secondary battery of 1B, in the charge / discharge characteristics, it was found that the discharge capacity of the battery decreased with the charge / discharge cycle and decreased to 1/3 or less in about 10 charge / discharge cycles.

(Sample No. 2D: the present invention)
Except that the filling amount of the electrode mixture was 110 mg, the sample No. A secondary battery was prepared in the same manner as 1A.
(Sample No. 2E: the present invention)
Except that the filling amount of the electrode mixture was 132 mg, the sample No. A secondary battery was prepared in the same manner as 1A.
Each sample No. Each of the secondary batteries in the positive electrode and the negative electrode in the side view, on the
Each obtained sample No. The charge / discharge cycle behavior of the secondary battery was examined, and the change in the discharge capacity obtained with the cycle when the initial capacity was set to 100 was shown in FIG.
Note that in FIG. The result of 2A, □ is sample No. The result of 2B, Δ is the sample No. The results of 2C, ◎ indicates sample No. 2D results, ◇ indicates sample no. The results of 2E are shown respectively.
As is clear from FIG. 9, when the average thickness of the portion where the electrode mixture is present alone is about 160 μm or more, the discharge capacity decreases to 45% or less in about 10 cycles, but should be about 120 μm. Thus, the discharge capacity in about 10 cycles was improved until it showed 75% or more, and by setting it to 80 μm or less, the deterioration of the discharge capacity accompanying the charge / discharge cycle was remarkably prevented.
(Example 3)
Next, the influence on the charge / discharge characteristics due to the difference in the thickness of the copper expanded net was examined.
A secondary battery was made in the same manner as in Example 2 except that a copper expanded net having an average thickness of 180 μm was used.
In addition, the filling amount of the electrode mixture was set to 50 mg, 74 mg, 97 mg, 121 mg, and 144 mg, respectively, to produce a positive electrode and a negative electrode. Thus, as in Example 2, the average thickness of the portion on the electrolyte layer side that does not overlap with the copper expanded net (portion where the electrode mixture is present alone) is about 40 μm, about 80 μm, about They were 120 μm, about 160 μm, and about 200 μm.
The discharge behavior associated with the charge / discharge cycle test of each obtained secondary battery is shown in Sample No. Measurement was performed in the same manner as in 1A. As a result, almost the same charge / discharge behavior as in Example 2 was shown.
That is, when the average thickness of the portion where the electrode mixture is present alone is about 160 μm or more with respect to the average thickness of the copper expanded mesh of 180 μm, the discharge capacity for charging is about 1/3 of the initial in about 10 cycles. Decreased to the extent. Further, it was found that when the average thickness of the portion is 160 μm or less, the deterioration of the discharge capacity accompanying the charge / discharge cycle is remarkably prevented.
Therefore, from the results of the present example and the example 2, the side thickness does not overlap with the copper expanded net (protrusions), and the average thickness of the portion where the electrode mixture is present alone is about 120 μm or less. It has been clarified that by configuring the electrodes (positive electrode and negative electrode), it is possible to more reliably prevent the battery discharge capacity from being reduced due to the charge / discharge cycle.

Next, the laminated body was taken out from the mold, inserted into a coin battery container (CR1616 type) shown in FIG. 16, and a sealing plate was pressed under pressure to produce a coin type battery.
When inserting this laminate into a coin battery container, a disc-shaped current collector plate (thickness 300 μm) with a diameter of 14.0 mm is interposed between the positive and negative electrode surfaces in order to eliminate the space between the coin container upper lid and the container. The connection with the battery element inside the battery was ensured.

Next, an aluminum particle (average particle size: 10 μm) was used as the negative electrode for the negative electrode. This negative electrode is the sample No. A solid electrolyte particle similar to that used in 8A was mixed at a weight ratio of 5: 5, and a negative electrode mixture in which 2.5% of a binder was further added was prepared.

At that time, charging of the battery was stopped, and discharging was performed at a constant current density of 100 μA / cm 2 .

(Example 14)
Moreover, the influence with respect to the charge / discharge characteristic by the difference in the shape of a copper expanded net was examined.
Except for using the copper expanded net having the shape shown in FIG. A secondary battery was prepared in the same manner as in 8A.
The charge / discharge behavior associated with the charge / discharge cycle of the obtained secondary battery was measured using the sample No. 1 described above.

(Example 15)
Moreover, the influence with respect to the charge / discharge characteristic by the difference in the kind of insulating material used for formation of the
Instead of the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer hot melt resin, the
The charge / discharge behavior associated with the charge / discharge cycle of the obtained secondary battery was measured using the sample No. 1 described above. Measurement was performed in the same manner as in 8A. As a result, each secondary battery showed the same charging / discharging behavior as the secondary battery of each Example 8-14 which each corresponds.
As described above, in the secondary battery (all-solid-state secondary battery) of the present invention, by providing the restricting portion, electronic destruction to the electrode active material occurring at the outer peripheral portion of the electrode and between the electrode active material and the electrolyte are performed. It was possible to prevent the ion conduction path from being cut, and to prevent a decrease in discharge capacity accompanying the charge / discharge cycle. Furthermore, in each embodiment, by providing an expanded mesh (a conductive mesh material) inside the electrode, the effect of preventing (inhibiting) the expansion of the electrode and the uniformity of the current density in the electrode are achieved (the strength of the current distribution is reduced). It is considered that the characteristics of the secondary battery are significantly improved.
In addition, from the results of Example 2 and Example 3, in the present invention, when the expanded net is not provided inside the electrode, the average thickness on the surface of the conductive plate material: 120 μm or less (particularly 80 μm or less) It is presumed that a secondary battery having excellent characteristics can be obtained by forming the electrode material layer and using it as an electrode.
As described above, the present invention can elucidate the cause of the temporary decrease in the discharge capacity accompanying the charge / discharge cycle in the secondary battery (all-solid secondary battery) using the conventional solid electrolyte particles, and can solve this. A configuration (battery configuration) is proposed, which makes it possible to prevent a decrease in discharge capacity associated with a charge / discharge cycle.
