Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a light emitting device, a method for manufacturing the light emitting device, and an electronic apparatus.
A self-luminous light-emitting device typified by an EL device is characterized by high visibility and excellent impact resistance because it is completely solid, and it is thin and lightweight because it is made of a thin-film surface light-emitting element. Development as a light emitting device is underway. EL devices use inorganic or organic compounds as the light-emitting layer, but organic EL devices that have an organic compound sandwiched between two electrodes have a wide variety of organic compounds and provide high-efficiency and high-quality light. Since it emits light with brightness, there is great expectation as a next-generation light-emitting device.
In Patent Document 1, efficiency and life are improved by using a material having high resistance in order to reduce crosstalk. However, when a material having high resistance is used, there is a problem that the light emission efficiency is reduced accordingly. An object of the present invention is to provide a light-emitting device with high visibility that does not cause crosstalk even when a low-resistance material is used for a light-emitting portion. Moreover, it aims at providing the manufacturing method of such a light-emitting device, and also aims at providing the electronic device provided with the light-emitting device.
In order to solve the above problems, a light emitting device of the present invention is a light emitting device having a light emitting layer between a cathode and an anode, wherein the cathode has a plurality of cathodes having different electron injection barriers from the light emitting layer. A cathode layer having a layer and having a relatively small electron injection barrier with the light emitting layer is patterned.
According to such a light emitting device, the cathode layer having a small electron injection barrier with the light emitting layer (hereinafter also referred to as the first cathode layer) bears selective electron injection into the light emitting layer. Electrons are selectively injected into the light emitting layer in the region where is formed. Accordingly, in the region where the first cathode layer is not formed, no light is emitted because electrons are not injected into the light emitting layer (regardless of whether or not the light emitting layer is patterned), and as a result, according to the pattern. As a result, selective light emission is performed, and as a result, the occurrence of crosstalk can be prevented and a high-contrast display can be provided.
The patterned cathode layer may be made of a conductive material having an electron injection barrier with the light emitting layer of 1 eV or less.
If the cathode layer made of a conductive material having an electron injection barrier of 1 eV or less with the light emitting layer is patterned as the first cathode layer in this way, selective electron injection is performed more effectively, and crosstalk occurs. Can be further prevented, and a high-contrast display can be provided.
In the cathode, a cathode layer having a relatively large electron injection barrier (hereinafter also referred to as a second cathode layer) is formed so as to cover the patterned cathode layer (first cathode layer). Can do.
Since the first cathode layer having a small electron injection barrier is relatively easily oxidized, if the first cathode layer is covered with a relatively stable second cathode layer, the first cathode layer is protected from oxidation. Therefore, the electron injection characteristics are hardly deteriorated, and as a result, a highly reliable light-emitting device can be provided.
The light emitting layer may be formed in a solid shape on the entire surface of the cathode layer forming region. Thus, even when the light emitting layer is disposed in a solid form on the entire surface, the patterned first cathode layer can selectively inject electrons corresponding to the pattern, and as a result, It is possible to further prevent the occurrence of crosstalk and provide a high contrast display.
Next, in order to solve the above-described problem, a method for manufacturing a light emitting device according to the present invention is a method for manufacturing a light emitting device having a light emitting layer between a cathode and an anode, and an anode having a predetermined pattern is formed on a substrate. Forming a light emitting layer on the anode; forming a conductive material having a relatively small electron injection barrier on the light emitting layer in a pattern following the pattern of the anode; Forming a first cathode layer, and depositing a conductive material having a relatively large electron injection barrier on the first cathode layer so as to cover the entire patterned first cathode layer; Forming a second cathode layer.
With such a manufacturing method, the above-described light emitting device according to the present invention can be preferably manufactured.
In particular, the step of forming the first cathode layer includes a step of pattern-forming a conductive material having a small injection barrier by vacuum deposition through a mask, and the step of forming the second cathode layer includes the step of forming the second cathode layer. The step of forming a conductive material having a large injection barrier on the first cathode layer by vapor deposition through the mask while maintaining the vacuum in the formation step of one cathode layer, and after releasing the vacuum, Forming a conductive material having a large injection barrier over the entire surface of the first cathode layer formation region. According to such a method, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of problems such as the conductive material having a small electron injection barrier being oxidized during the manufacturing process and the electron injection function of the first cathode layer being lowered.
Next, in order to solve the above-described problem, an electronic apparatus according to the present invention includes the light-emitting device according to the present invention.

Here, as shown in FIG. 2, the planar structure of each
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 3, the
The
The
The hole injection /
In the present embodiment, the
The
In the
その他Cs(仕事関数は2.14eV、その注入障壁-0.56eV)などのアルカリ金属、Ca(仕事関数は2.87eV、その注入障壁0.17eV)、Sr(仕事関数は2.59eV、その注入障壁-0.11eV)、Ba(仕事関数は2.7eV、その注入障壁0eV)などのアルカリ土類金属、LiFなどの化合物も適用できる。
In the present embodiment, the
Further, in the
Under such a configuration, when the
In particular, in the present embodiment, the
Further, in the
In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3, an insulating
In the present embodiment, as described above, since the
(Method for manufacturing light emitting device)
Next, a method for manufacturing the
First, as shown in FIG. 6A, a substrate P is prepared. Here, in the organic EL device according to the present invention, light emitted by the light emitting layer can be extracted from the substrate P side, and can be configured to be extracted from the side opposite to the substrate P. When the emitted light is taken out from the substrate P side, a transparent or translucent material such as glass, quartz, or resin is used as the substrate constituent material. In the case where the emitted light is extracted from the side opposite to the substrate P, the substrate P may be opaque. In this case, a ceramic sheet such as alumina or a metal sheet such as stainless steel is subjected to an insulation treatment such as surface oxidation. A thermosetting resin, a thermoplastic resin, or the like can be used.
In the present embodiment, a transparent substrate made of glass or the like is used as the substrate P. In response to this,
Next, as shown in FIG. 6A, the
Subsequently, an insulating
Next, as shown in FIG. 6B, the
After the
Subsequently, in the chamber used for the magnesium vacuum deposition, a part of the
After forming a part of the
In the manufacturing method of the organic EL device, the
