Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a fullerene base material in which a raw material is sublimated and introduced into a reaction chamber to deposit a product on a deposition substrate.
Endohedral fullerene is a material expected to be applied to electronics, medicine, etc., in which atoms such as alkali metals are encapsulated in a spherical carbon molecule known as fullerene.
As a background art for producing an endohedral fullerene, there is an ion implantation method and an ion implantation apparatus described in Patent Document 1 filed by the applicant of the present invention.

The present invention (11) comprises at least a reaction chamber, a product recovery means, and an introduction pipe for introducing a gas raw material into the reaction chamber, and the product recovery means has a cup shape having an opening and a side portion. A product deposition apparatus, characterized by being a substrate.
(1) By changing the shape of the deposition substrate of the fullerene base material production apparatus from a flat plate shape to a cup shape, the amount of fullerene vapor injected toward the deposition substrate increases on the substrate, thereby generating fullerene base material. Increased speed.
(2) It is possible to reduce the amount of fullerene that is not deposited on the substrate but adheres to the inner wall of the vacuum chamber or is exhausted by a vacuum pump. It is effective in improving the utilization efficiency of expensive industrial materials. In addition, contamination of the inner wall of the vacuum chamber and the vacuum pump due to unrecovered material can be prevented.
(3) In addition to using a cup-shaped deposition substrate, by optimizing the arrangement of the fullerene introduction tube, it has become possible to further improve the generation rate of fullerene base material and the utilization efficiency of fullerene.
(4) By not arranging the magnetic field coil for moving the plasma straight around the deposition substrate, the side surface portion of the cup-shaped deposition substrate is also irradiated with encapsulated atomic ions, so that the amount of fullerene base material produced on the side surface portion is reduced. It becomes possible to increase.
The best mode of the present invention will be described below.
(Encapsulated fullerene production equipment)
Fig.1 (a) is sectional drawing of the specific example of the endohedral fullerene manufacturing apparatus of this invention. The manufacturing apparatus shown in FIG. 1 (a) generates plasma containing ions made of alkali metal such as Li by a contact ionization type plasma generation apparatus, irradiates the generated plasma to the deposition substrate, and at the same time, fullerene vapor is applied to the deposition substrate. And an endohedral fullerene production apparatus for producing an alkali metal-encapsulated fullerene by a reaction between the ions and the fullerene.

The shape of the deposition substrate is a cup-shaped substrate. The cup-shaped substrate is a product recovery means in which an end portion is bent and one opening is provided only in one direction. The cross section of the substrate in the direction perpendicular to the opening can take a U-shaped, U-shaped or V-shaped cross-sectional shape. By the product recovery means, not only a product such as an endohedral fullerene but also an unreacted raw material such as an empty fullerene can be recovered.
In the specific example of the present invention, for example, the deposition substrate has a cup shape including the
Fullerene, which is a raw material for the endohedral fullerene, is sublimated by heating to 200 to 600 ° C. in the
Fullerene vapor is jetted onto the deposition substrate, and at the same time, Li ions in the plasma are accelerated on or near the deposition substrate, and collide with fullerene molecules constituting the fullerene vapor to generate internal fullerene. The bias voltage is controlled so that the acceleration energy is optimal for inclusion.

The
(Deposition substrate shape)
FIGS. 2A to 2F are views for explaining a specific example of the structure of the fullerene introduction tube and the deposition substrate according to the endohedral fullerene production apparatus of the present invention. 2A, the size of the
As a result, when θ and L were compared under the same conditions regardless of a and b, it was found that the recovery rate was improved in the case of a cup-shaped deposition substrate (a> 0) rather than a planar deposition substrate. It was. In particular, it was found that the recovery rate was greatly improved when a: b ≧ 0.1. In order to reduce the size of the apparatus, it is preferable that a: b ≦ 5.
As shown in FIGS. 2 (c) and 2 (d), when a cup-shaped deposition substrate is used and fullerene is injected from the opening to change θ, the highest recovery rate is obtained when θ = 0 °. was gotten.
As shown in FIGS. 2 (e) and 2 (f), when a cup-shaped deposition substrate was used and L was changed,
The recovery rate is higher when 1/4 * a ≤ L ≤ a than when L> a or L <1/4 * a. Of the fullerenes introduced, fullerenes reacted with plasma or unreacted More than 50% of fullerenes can be recovered.
In the evaluation experiment, a cup-shaped deposition substrate having a circular shape at the bottom of the deposition substrate was used. However, the shape of the bottom is not limited to a circle, and the present invention can be applied to other shapes such as a quadrangle as in the case of a circle. It is clear that the effect of can be obtained.
FIGS. 5A to 5F are diagrams for explaining another specific example of the structure of the fullerene introduction tube and the deposition substrate according to the endohedral fullerene production apparatus of the present invention. In the specific example shown in FIG. 2, the deposition substrate has a bottom portion, a side surface portion, and an opening portion, and the side surface portion is formed so that an angle ψ with respect to the bottom portion is 90 °. However, by forming the deposited substrate in a cup shape, even when ψ is not necessarily 90 ° (FIG. 5A), the generation efficiency of the endohedral fullerene can be improved and the recovery rate of fullerene can be improved. Similarly, when the cross-sectional shape of the deposition substrate is not line symmetric (FIG. 5 (b)), the angle φ formed by the bottom of the deposition substrate with respect to the plasma flow direction is not 90 ° (FIG. 5 (c)). Is at least cup-shaped, and the bottom and side portions are arbitrarily shaped (FIG. 5 (d)), when the deposition substrate does not have a flat bottom or when the deposition substrate is thick (FIG. 5 (e)) However, it is possible to improve the production efficiency of the endohedral fullerene and improve the recovery rate of fullerene.
The position of the fullerene introduction pipe does not necessarily have to be arranged so that fullerene vapor is jetted to the inner surface of the deposition substrate through the opening of the deposition substrate. As shown in FIG. 5 (f), even when the front end portion of the introduction tube is arranged so as to protrude from the side surface portion of the deposition substrate and the fullerene vapor is injected onto the inner surface of the deposition substrate, the generation efficiency of the endohedral fullerene, and The recovery rate of fullerene can be greatly improved.
Even when the introduction tube protrudes from the side surface of the deposition substrate, the recovery rate is greatly improved when a: b ≧ 0.1. In order to reduce the size of the apparatus, it is preferable that a: b ≦ 5.
(Embedded fullerene production equipment other than alkali metal-encapsulated fullerenes)
The endohedral fullerene production method and production apparatus of the present invention are inventions relating to the shape and arrangement of the fullerene introduction apparatus and the deposition substrate, and do not depend on the type of the encapsulated substance or the type of the ion generation apparatus. Therefore, the present invention provides a method, a manufacturing apparatus, and a contact ionization-type plasma for an endohedral fullerene that includes other atoms or molecules such as alkaline earth metals, hydrogen, nitrogen, halogen elements, and inert elements in addition to alkali metals. It can be applied not only to generators but also to endohedral fullerene manufacturing methods and equipment using plasma generators such as high-frequency induction plasma, ECR plasma, and magnetron plasma. It is clear that the same effects as those in the production of the alkali metal-encapsulated fullerene can be obtained.
(Fullerene, fullerene base material, mixed fullerene)
In this specification, “fullerene” is a hollow carbon cluster material represented by C n (n = 60, 70, 76, 78...), And examples thereof include C 60 and C 70. it can. Further, the “fullerene base material” is a material produced based on fullerene, and in addition to the endohedral fullerene in which atoms or molecules other than carbon are confined in the hollow portion of the cage-like fullerene molecule, heterofullerene, Chemically modified fullerenes, fullerene polymers, and fullerene polymers are included. The production apparatus of the present invention can be used for production of these fullerene base materials by the reaction of plasma and fullerene, in addition to the production of endohedral fullerenes.
In addition, mixed fullerene can be used as the fullerene as a raw material. The “mixed fullerene” is a carbon cluster material in which a plurality of different types of fullerenes are mixed. When producing fullerene by the resistance heating method or the arc discharge method, 70 to 85% is C 60 , 10 to 15% is C 70 , and the remainder is C 76 and C 78 in the weight ratio among the generated fullerenes. , C 84 and other higher fullerenes. Also in the production of fullerene by the combustion method, the weight ratio of C 60 and C 70 is larger than that of higher-order fullerene. Therefore, C 60 and C 70 are easily available and inexpensive compared with other higher-order fullerenes. Also, mixed fullerenes composed of C 60 and C 70 are commercially available from frontier carbon and the like, and can be easily obtained and used for the production of fullerene base materials.
Further, the fullerene used as a raw material includes nitrogen heterofullerene and oxide fullerene. Nitrogen heterofullerene or oxide fullerene is a substance contained in the fullerene base material defined above, but it is a by-product that is synthesized in large quantities when fullerene is plasma treated to produce fullerene base material such as endohedral fullerene. It is a product, and these can be reused to produce fullerene-based materials having higher industrial value than nitrogen heterofullerene and oxide fullerene.
(Deposition equipment)
The technology of the present invention is not limited to an endohedral fullerene production apparatus, but also an apparatus that injects and collects reaction products onto a deposition substrate, and a reaction gas is produced on the deposition substrate by injecting a raw material gas onto the deposition substrate. It can be applied to general equipment for recovery. The apparatus to which the technology of the present invention is applied is not limited to a vacuum apparatus that evacuates the reaction chamber.
Examples of manufacturing apparatuses to which the technology of the present invention can be applied include CVD apparatuses and PVD apparatuses. As an example of the deposition apparatus, an apparatus for manufacturing industrial microcrystalline diamond using a plasma CVD apparatus will be described.
FIG. 4B is a cross-sectional view of a conventional diamond manufacturing apparatus. An
In the conventional diamond manufacturing apparatus, since the deposition substrate is flat, carbon heated to a high temperature in the plasma is scattered to regions other than the substrate, so that there is a problem that the raw material cannot be effectively used. .
FIG.1 (b) is sectional drawing of the diamond manufacturing apparatus of this invention. The manufacturing apparatus of the present invention is different from the conventional manufacturing apparatus in that the shape of the deposition substrate is a cup shape having a bottom and side surfaces. Since the deposition substrate has the side surface portion, the amount of carbon scattered in a place other than the deposition substrate is reduced, and the utilization efficiency of the raw material can be improved.

EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example is given and this invention is demonstrated in detail, this invention is not limited to a following example.
(Fullerene deposition experiment)
For the fullerene recovery rate comparison experiment, a manufacturing apparatus in which an electromagnetic coil was arranged around a cylindrical stainless steel vacuum chamber was used. C 60 , which is a raw material used, was C 60 manufactured by Frontier Carbon. The vacuum chamber was evacuated to a vacuum degree of 4.2 × 10 −5 Pa, and a magnetic field with a magnetic field strength of 0.2 T was generated by an electromagnetic coil. The fullerene in powder form was filled in 2.0 g in a fullerene oven, heated to 590 ° C. and sublimated, and C 60 vapor was sprayed toward a stainless steel deposition substrate. In the deposition experiment, a film was formed for 2 hours at a time. As the deposition substrate, three types of cup-shaped deposition substrates having different side portions were used, and a flat-shaped deposition substrate was also used for comparison. In addition, a disc having the same diameter (40 mm) was used for the bottom of the cup-shaped substrate and the flat plate-shaped deposition substrate (the size of the opening of the cup-shaped deposition substrate was also 40 mm). The introduction tube for injecting fullerene vapor from the fullerene oven uses an introduction tube with an injection angle θ of 45 °, and the interval L between the introduction tube and the deposition substrate is changed to change the sublimation weight of the fullerene and the fullerene film deposited on the deposition substrate. The recovery rate, which is the ratio with the weight, was measured. The deposition under the same conditions was repeated 10 times, the recovery rate was measured, and an average value was taken for comparison.
Deposition substrate shape Side length Interval L Recovery Cup shape 30mm 25mm 72%
Cup shape
Cup shape 10mm 5mm 51%

Flat NA 25mm 23%
From the above results, the recovery rate is improved by using a cup-shaped deposition substrate rather than a planar deposition substrate, and even when a cup-shaped deposition substrate is used, the recovery rate is the size of the side surface of the deposition substrate. It was found that it depends on the distance between the gas inlet tube and the deposition substrate.
